Preidlhof Luxury DolceVita Resort

"Set the scene Near the picturesque town of South Tyrol’s Merano under the Dolomites, and within the Texel Group National Park, this is a region deeply steeped in the culture of wellness and outdoor sports. Preidlhof draws both die-hard German hikers, who use the thermal waters and saunas post mountain forays, and guests (like me) in residence for one of the transformational wellness retreats, who barely leave the premises. Owned by a private family, the hotel has become famous for not only its easy access to activities like hiking and biking, with the Dolomites as the backdrop, but for the property’s intuitive 360-degree approach to health and beauty using both Eastern and Western treatments, as well as those invented within the South Tyrol. In addition to the spa itself, the seven-floor sauna tower is the property centerpiece with multiple saunas, a steam room, rooftop pool, and relaxation area. What is the background story? This family-owned property got a €6 million overhaul in 2017, putting new blood into the over 50-year-old institution. Klaus Ladurner oversees the property, and his wife Monika runs the front office, while his parents are still involved in everything from arranging special hikes to making wine. Who are their people? Priedlhof has a star roster of therapists. Among them, Dr Angerer, who measures HRV, heart rate variability, and then custom tailors programs that combine acupuncture, supplements, and sleep clinics; Martin Kirchler, who mixes Traditional Chinese Medicine (among other ancient arts) and advises exercises to be replicated at home; and Stefano Battaglia, who has gained a cult following for his healing hands and supernatural intuition. What’s the wellness concept? Preidlhof runs the gamut: those looking for pampering (access to the amenities like a salinated rooftop pool, multiple saunas and steam room are enough for hours of blissful relaxation and included in the room rate) can order treatments à la carte, or guests can sign up for transformational wellness retreats to address issues from disturbed sleep to menopause to extreme stress to weight loss. All the treatments in the programs are also available as one offs. What are the signature treatments? Trauma release, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), treatments for disturbed sleep, forest bathing, Shiatsu, trauma release, water massage (heaven, with a heated salinated pool and piped in music), mindful eating, Kneipp, the Su-Man sculpting facial (a must), and pregnancy-focused treatments. Which therapist should I book? Start your exploration of the offerings with the lovely Patrizia Bortolin, Spa Director and transformational wellness coach, who has a gentle but effective approach on how to tackle various issues in an integrative way and will advise on a customized menu. From there your package will probably include Martin Kichler, Dr. Angerer, Stefano Battaglia, and Andrea Martinelli (Shiatsu wizard), among others. What makes it different? Preidlhof has kept up with the latest innovations, medical equipment, and high-tech gadgets. Be sure to try the HRV heart rate variability, where you can find out your biological versus actual age; the sleep suite, with features like an acoustic ceiling designed to minimize outside or surrounding noise and a menu of 12 different pillows; and a deep-sea room with 12,500 LEDs to promote even deeper relaxation. What else do they offer? The resort offers special wellness menus focused on healthy ingredients, while the spa offers cooking classes utilising herbs and flowers foraged during the forest bathing sessions. In addition to a tasting of Preidlhof’s terrific olive oil, there is a class that explores the nine types of hunger. In 2023 Bortolin will launch a “candy healing class” and “mindful chocolate freedom” to ease up self-judgement and demonization around certain kinds of food. This area is legendary for outdoor activities, for good reason. Make sure you get out for a gentle hike or bike ride. There are also guided outdoor fitness classes outdoors – check the daily schedule (they are included in the room rate). In addition to the full gym, the property has a roster of daily classes such as yoga nidra, meditation, Qi Gong (in yoga/meditation pavilion) and strength training. The lovely basement pool is a temple to the 1950s, while the fitness pool in the suite tower is perfect for laps. Preidlhof doesn’t have a hair salon but does do make-up on site (Bortolin was a make-up artist in the 1980s). The hotel has also just launched a signature beauty line that epitomizes Preidlhof’s clean ethos. It includes environmentally friendly, vegan products such as a cleansing milk and oil, serum with Vitamin C, and a moisturizing cream. Where do you stay? Well-sized rooms have huge, walk-in rain showers, terraces with infrared lamps to keep you warm in winter while watching the mountains scapes, and comfy beds with individual duvets (we aren’t convinced on the shag mats in certain spots but that’s a small complaint). We love the spa and wellness areas with lots of light and glass to capitalise on the setting, and the restaurant is made up of multiple rooms and a large buffet area (save room for the South Tyrolean treats). Anything else to mention? It might help your packing strategy to know that many of the property’s wet zones are naked-only areas. If you are shy, you might want to stick to the bathing suit options or go to the facilities when most hikers are already out for the day. In the afternoon there is a jovial group sauna activity, with music from the likes of Abba and Queen – it’s quite amusing but might be sensory overload after the serenity of the healing spaces."

So I was a solo traveller and booked the wellness package for 3 nights. Private transfers can be expensive so I booked a shuttle from Verona. I was in a suite first night then moved to a smaller room last two nights. Lovely rooms which were clean and had some nice touches.great showers. Food was very good. Dinner service could be slowish but not a big issue. The buffet for breakfast and lunch were great. I was asked to move my regular table at dinner on the last night which I found a little perplexing. In the end my original table was not even used so not sure why I was asked to move in the first place. Thankfully a solo guest on an adjacent table asked me to join her so I had a great evening. The treatments were very good. Aroma massage and reflexology. I put my name down for the Thursday hike and Friday 5 am sunrise hike . However I found the hike guide made very little effort to speak English and I found it a little awkward on the Thursday morning hike. The guide for the sunrise hike was very good and made great effort. So overall a great experience which I would recommend. Private transfers from airports are not cheap but the shuttle is more affordable. Manish

If you are looking for Germany in Italy, you have found the right place. I was however hoping for Italian hospitality, Italian food and Italian dolce vita. The hotel has 3 buildings, the new one is very nice , we love our modern room w a day bed on the balcony. The sauna tower is very nice w many different kinds of saunas and relaxation rooms, maybe a bit too much nudity for an Italian location. Their clients are mostly German so get used to being naked. The indoor pool in the basement is beautiful and a great joy for an early morning swim but there is no window. I don’t like the SonnenSchloss building, everything feels too old including the outdoor pool. The food was solid, but in general didn’t wow me. I had much better food in the Dolomites in hotels of similar level. Really need to work on their gourmet offering, steaks were disappointing because the cut and grilling were not top, lemon tart was a disaster because they didn’t use butter to make the crust, prosciutto Di Parma was sliced way too thick, pasta vongole, wrong vongole and over cooked. I expected perfect mastery of basic cooking details from a hotel of this level. Lastly the service was polite, but you somehow still feel it was cold, not the kind of genuine heart warming smiles you get from a great family hotel. I liked about their Dolce Vita hotel offering which gives you the chance to try other dolce vita hotel during your stay here. So we went over to Lindenhof (5 min walk) for spa and dinner. Lindenhof has a great outdoor pool for swimming laps and for aqua massage which are both lacking at Preidlehof. Preidlhof however has a better surrounding and view. The rooms seem to be much better at Preidlhof and it is adult only.

This hotel & wellness resort is 100/100. One of, if not THE best stays I have ever had. I stayed 5 days and came back really relaxed & refreshed; with a lot of new learnings too. Massive shout out in particular to the very friendly & accommodating spa staff (Sabrina, Pamela, Eleonora, Aurora & Carmine were absolutely excellent). Massages, treatments, additional classes were all superb. MUST try laughter yoga, it's fascinatingly hilarious. Gyms are great, pools are great, sauna tower & the sauna shows are incredible. My suite was gorgeous. Food is fantastic; service everywhere you go is 5*. I did not want to leave! And will be back soon. Anyone thinking of coming here, do... You will not regret it. 5*** Hope to see you all soon again, Paul

Price: We paid roughly EUR 260 per person/night for a Deluxe King Suite. For this price, I'd definitely expected and seen better. 150 EUR per person/night might be reasonable. Also, you'll have to pay extra for every additional order. Food & service: good, although we'd expected better for a 5 star hotel with such good reviews. Hotel & spa in general: nice, especially the old part. However, when the hotel is fully booked (as it was during our weekend), it is difficult/impossible to find a quiet spot. Atmosphere: We did not find the general atmosphere in the hotel to be very positive, neither among the staff nor among the guests.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting last summer for the first time & participating in the 5-day Energy & healing retreat for 2 Spa Package. It was such a dynamic & relaxing experience filled with various therapeutic modalities! I really appreciated being able to foster a relationship with the spa staff after seeing them every day. Everyone working there are genuine humans with so much joy radiating out of them - it's infectious! We left feeling fulfilled on a physical, emotional & spiritual level - it was like nothing I ever felt before!

A fabulous health and well-being center. Endless array of thermal pools, jacuzzis and wellness treatments. Full board meals were gourmet and healthy. We couldn’t ask for more. Rooms were luxurious with breathtaking views of the Alps.

Highly recommend, especially if you are looking to heal. If I could give 10 stars, I would. I arrived extremely sick from Covid vaccine related issues and did the 10-day Integrated Wellness Retreat lead by Dr. Angerer. Wow! What a difference 10 days can make! After nearly 2 years of feeling (and looking) crappy, and seeing 50+ doctors, dermatologists, gastro specialists, and even therapists around the world, I finally feel (and look) better! I’m running again and climbing rock walls?! Preidlhof’s holistic approach to wellness has been the key to my miraculous recovery progress. Their Wellness Menu features gluten-free, vegan, and refined sugar-free food that tastes amazing thanks to Chef Angelo and his talented kitchen team. The restaurant, managed by the accomplished Matteo, should be on the list to receive a Michelin star - it exceeds the few I’ve been to in both taste and presentation! If you are lucky, you might have the vivacious Simona as your waitress - bringing extra joy to every meal. The MedSpa team, led by fabulous Alessandra and Sabrina, is world-class and features a personalized and holistic approach to healing. The sauna tower is unlike anything I’ve seen before - be sure to catch Nadine in the Aufguss or join her for one of her fun fitness classes including my favorite: Aqua Gym! They have a thermal pool, rock climbing wall, and tons of events and activities to keep you entertained and fit. Or you can just relax and eat amazing cuisine - made to order with exceptional skill. My tummy has gone from looking 6-months pregnant with bloating to being flat as pancake! My skin is glowing, my nails are growing and I am sleeping through the night for the first time in 10 years! I feel so blessed to have found this very special place. I plan on making this an annual event as it truly has changed my life. Now let’s talk about the property: exquisite. (Shout out to the hardest working landscapers on the planet!). From the rose gardens and lemon trees that line the perimeter, to the apple orchards out front, to the floral gardens - all nestled in snow-capped mountain ranges: it’s simply breathtaking. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the flock of sheep (and the cutest little baby lambs!) neighboring the hotel! Oh my word! Wake up to church bells and bird songs, and end the evening with a phenomenal dirty martini from Katarina in the bar with love music and dancing! PS: it’s an adult-only resort, making it even more relaxing!! Leave your kids, and your worries behind and come join me and the Preidlhof team in heaven!

Yelp
My stay at Preidlhof was so much more than I dreamed of! The resort is stunning, they thought of everything for a comfortable and luxurious stay. You can even sleep under the stars on your balcony daybed - so cozy and magical! They have connected wellness and nature to another level.. there actually is a 6 Story Sauna Tower (including steam room, 360* sauna, cold plunge, and infinity pools.) The team is so helpful, knowledgeable and super friendly. Carmine and Patrizia were wonderful at creating the perfect experience for me (and customizing my wellness itinerary.) Stefano and Martin are masters at their healing, I am so grateful to have worked with them. Thank you Preidlhof, I will be back! :)
