"The Musée de la Poupée in undoubtedly one of the most eerie and unusual museums in Paris. Hidden in a quiet alley in the very crowded Marais district, the actual institution, a genuine pocket museum, looks like a dollhouse itself. The Doll Museum was opened in 1994 by Guido Odin and his son Samy, who were both deliriously obsessed by the elegant fragility of the subjects in their collection. The Doll Museum displays thousands of artifacts; toys, automatons, miniature mannequins, divination dolls and witchcraft figurines - an army of strange beauty that unveils mankind‘s universal fascination for self representation. Made out of celluloid, wax, porcelain and even human hair, their bodies and their shapes defined an ideal of feminity that fluctuated through the canon of beauty of their era. Sometimes showcased in dioramas that mimic hausmanian cabinets, tea parties or kitchy seashores, the dolls reenact the illusion of life in the most bizarre of ways, stuck in timeless girly stereotypes. With their cracked smiles and melancholic squints, the myriad of staring glass eyes will offer you a journey through time, a one way ticket into the realm of the uncanny." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Far out and unique. I absolutely loved finding this hidden special museum. I am not even a doll collector but I found this collection impressive. Every doll you can imagine from around the world arranged in this little jewel box of a museum. If you are looking for the unusual, you have found it here.

Used to go here when I was an Au Pair. The kids loved it, both girls and boys. Great and well organised exhibition, amazing selection and details about the dools and their making. Trip back in time assured! :)

This place is great! So many dolls of different types. I don't understand why there are not other languages other than French posted. One star off because of that. Check it out though!

All descriptions are in french only, so you can just enjoy looking the dolls, but with the feeling that you wish you can understand something...

I went to the museum this morning but it has been closed since September. There is no further information on the re-opening date.

I would have appreciated an English translation as well. Perhaps next time I go to Paris?

Yelp
€8 to see a bunch of dolls...I got duped... Yah yah, it was my fault for paying to get inside...I figured with a name like poupee, this has to be good. I mean c'mon, Paris has the Erotic Museum, and the Catacombes museum so going to a museum devoted to poop would have been a new experience, but I guess poupee means dolls in English. So yah, it's a bunch of dolls. Some very old to the modern day version. There's only 3 rooms here, and your total time will most likely be about 8 minutes or 1€ per minute during your time here. It's better for mothers and daughters to come here. Not for single dudes who wanted to see as much museums as he can in Paris. Yah, no photography allowed in the Poupee museum. There's a gift shop too, and obviously were selling dolls, little trinkets and other dolls paraphernalia. Some dolls on sale went as high as 1200€. And these aint Barbies either!!!

Yelp
This museum is by far the most unique collection of doll collectables and pedestrian play toys from every era imaginable in Paris. Sadly, Musee de la Poupee will close on September 15, as the museum is currently selling off their inventory, piece by piece, with prices more similar to a flea market find than a boutique last season sale. If in Paris, it's definitely worth a visit, even if the locale is somewhat tough to find. Ask your hotel desk for directions, a uber driver or a local in the Marais. It's worth finding this gem, if at least to see a masterpiece in the form of a specialized museum that will so unfortunately be no longer. Less than 2 months to go, and so worth the visit whether you have a child in mind or to satisfy the child in oneself. Can be a cool souvenir for friends back home that will marvel at the uniqueness of an antique or French inspired doll. Who knows? It could be worth something one day, unlike that Paris scene snow globe or Eiffel Tower key chain you were about to purchase for all your friends.

Yelp
This little doll museum thrilled my then, 5 year old daughter. I mean really? What can be better than a museum filled with dolls. Everything from antique dolls to Barbie. It was a great bribe for us. We went here and behaved and she went to the Pompidou and behaved. A win-win!

Yelp
The museum was incredible. There are dolls from all over the world and from seemingly every era. As someone who travel's museums all around the world, this was the best museum I have ever been to. Also, if you're a doll collector be sure to checkout the gift shop on the way out!
