3/2025 Heeee's baaaaack! at KCC. So happy about this. Prices on bentos ate $8 but everything is up now so whatever. It's still a pretty good price for really good, simple, tasty bentos. Thank you, thank you for being back. 😉😊🤙✌️ 9/2022 Just simply can't go wrong! Followed this location at KCC since they opened up post pandemic. It's on my daily walk route. I gotta admit that as a foodie disciple even I was skeptical, but they've persevered. It started with little trickles, all tourists. Then, eventually more tourists. Then the construction workers started smelling the deal, and now, the administration and students are sold on it. People now actually drive from wherever and eat the deals. The bento boxes overall are a can't go wrong value, but, my personal Must Go To Favorites are the Pork Adobo and Hamburger Steak bentos. They freeking rock for the price and that Adobo recipe - broke da mouth, no doubt! All I can say is I hope they don't sell out on these even earlier now that I'm stupid enough to post a review on these two items in particular. Oh well. But I'm glad to see people busy working and local businesses thriving, doing what they gotta do to survive. Really nice to see. I had more pics but inadvertently deleted them. I'll get more in the future. I do like that I can get a quick blended Latte fix for $4 too. Boom! 😉🤙✌️ 10/2022 Missed the boat for adobo today but had the Beef Stew. Sorry again. Whacked it before I took the camera phone out. Onolicious Brah! Hmmm....what's next?🤔😉 10/2022 Beef Stew, Hamburger Steak, Pork Adobo, my Go To Favorites! Onolicious!!😉🤙✌️ 11/2022 Had the Pork Adobo for the umpteenth time. Are you kidding me? Big boy portion for a fantabulous price! And brah, ono-freeking-icious! I'm so glad they're nearby. Y'all dont have to try. Mo fo me! 😃😋🤙✌️ 1/13/23 Yeah, Friday the 13th. Didn't stop me from banging the double whammy bento (beef stew and pork adobo). I always have a hard time choosing because of the price, choke selection, and everything tastes onolicious! Good secret way to start the year! 🙂🙃😉😋🤙✌️ 10/2023 Don't forget your pineapple. $2 Pines! Awesome deal!! 🙂🤙✌️

Google
One of the best and most affordable food trucks we found while in Hawaii! The food was delicious and the the pineapple smoothie was amazing, next time in in Hawaii I'm stopping here every day! The first day I missed the truck and had to buy 3 mini tacos from a different truck and it costed $19, this place charges $5 a plate

Google
This place is the best deal you’ll find! There are plenty of choices for $5 bento boxes as well as some for $6. We got the pig and cabbage ($5), pork adobo ($5), and snapper in sweet chili asian sauce ($6). Each box came with rice and corn and they are given to you as soon as you order. They give you utensils, soy sauce and sriracha packets, and plenty of napkins. We took our food to the picnic tables nearby to eat and then we went back to get the pineapple whip and acai bowl in a pineapple because they looked so good. They were delicious and beautiful! The people working here are all very nice and the service is quick, highly recommend!

Google
Nice little food truck serving delicious food! It has great scenery right by the water. We got the pineapple Dole whip, which was really tasty. The presentation of the food was amazing too. Very Hawaiian with the flower :).

The price is good but the food did not impress. My katsu and fried chicken were not crispy. Loved the acai bowl. Snapper is great.

Google
Unassuming food booth, easily missed even though it is located along a major highway at Kewalo Basin. Simple, comfort boxed lunches (bento, a Japanese word, incorporated by immigrants into the local dialect for generations) consisting of a main dish, steamed rice with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds, canned corn and a main dish. Very popular with locals. A frequent customer recommended roast pork, hamburger steak and ahi belly. For $5, it can’t be beat. Adequate portion size, not overly large. Accepts credit cards. Free parking available in adjacent stalls, likely originally intended for tourists buses prior to pandemic.

Google
One of the best meals I had here in Waikiki! They do taste authentically “bento” in a Japanese sense - no MSG, no excessive grease, only home cooked comfort food. Perfectly great bento for all times of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We also got the shave ice - great also. Really wanna try their smoothies and pineapple desserts next time! Substantial portion, super attractive pricing! MUCH better value and flavor than the famous food trucks up on the north end of the island! What’s not to love? Highly recommend!

Google
Five dollars for a decent size bento box?! Okay! This little place has a great selection too, and they serve the convented dole whip treats. So go here, grab some good bento boxes and a tasty treat!

Yelp
This particularly $5 Bento is located right next door to Savers. It use to be Ross and also the Japanese restaurant Yamagen . Can't go wrong with $5 bento comes with rice and corn and the main entree . I picked up their hamburger steak and sweet chili fish . Service is fast and quick all their bento's are in warmers and ready to go . This location seems to be very busy because I arrived about 4:15pm and the selection was almost sold out only chicken adobo, Hamburger steak and fish left Support local

Yelp
Recently, I stopped here since a parking stall on the street was available and convenient. I had also always wanted to try the $5. Bento Box. There were several choices available. I decided to get the $6. Furikaki Fish. It was tasty and the portion was just right for a Senior. I like that the Bentos are kept warm. I could see how two $5. Bentos would be perfect if you have a larger appetite. I would go back to try their other offerings. Good value and worth trying!

Yelp
Lunch from Moiliili, Honolulu, Hawaii... After having leftovers from my niece's Graduation party for too many days, I thought that everyone in the family would enjoy some other cuisine. $5 Bento has several locations. This one is on the left side of King Street, right before the building where Ross used to be. (A Savers is coming soon.) There's metered street parking, but picking up bentos is quick. (No need to feed the meter.) The young man in the food truck was efficient and pleasant. I got two of each: shoyu chicken, beef stew, pork adobo, and chicken stew. Everyone had their favorites (My brother-in-law liked the shoyu chicken the best) and were happy with the selection. I would return if I was in the area. However - Personally, the Kalihi location is probably closer to my mom's house and might have more of a selection (like hamburger steak, snapper, and kalua pig and cabbage).

Yelp
Finally... a place that speaks to my wallet! I had seen the $5 Bento Box food truck on S. King St and in the Kaimuki area, but I never thought to stop by until one evening when I wasn't very hungry and just wanted a small bite to eat. I did a search on bentos and this place popped up with 4 star reviews. Sounded promising. Since the Kaimuki location is closer to me, I stopped by there first. They're actually located in the student parking lot at KCC. They were sold out by 5pm! The guy told me to call the S. King St location to see if they still had bentos available. They did, so I headed out there. They're located in Moilili next to a CVS. You can't miss them due to their bright red sign. Plenty of parking is available in front. After browsing the menu, I decided to get the $6 snapper with lemon butter. Yes, it was $6, not $5. All of the other bentos were $5, though. They have about 10 different bentos to choose from. They are pre-packaged and kept in a warm, large container that's temperature controlled. The snapper was just the right size, since I wasn't too hungry. It came with rice and a small amount of corn. The lemon butter added flavor. It was actually very delicious! The lady working in the food truck was really sweet. She showed me several bentos and allowed me to choose the one I wanted. There aren't any tables to sit down so this is a take-out only place. I would definitely return to try some of their other bentos. I mean, how can you go wrong with a $5 bento? Or in my case, a $6 bento?
google avatar

Wayne H.

Yelp
Great food for the price. Bentos come with a good portion of meat, rice, and corn. Try the snapper, fish, and kalua pig bentos. There's limited street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to get a good amount of food for $5. It ain't old school lunch plate sized, but the bento size is just right to fill you up without stuffing you. Plenty of good choices. I don't know how these good folks can keep these prices because of the economy, but I feel lucky to be able to live near this place to grab a bite to eat considering the McDonalds right across the street charges $10 for their "combo" meals. I appreciate that they've done what they could to keep these boxes affordable. If you're hungreh and looking for more grindz getting two boxes will really fill you up, but 1 is great for getting satisfied and if you're trying to watch your portions.
google avatar

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
Okay, you seriously can't beat this value in town for food. Where else can you find a meal for $5 that will fill you up? Go early for a larger selection. They premake and pack their bentos which are kept in food warmers until they sell out. I found their food to be hit or miss. Sometimes really good, some times bland, some times way too salty. But hey, again for $5 bucks, you can't be too picky or complain. The pulled pork with gravy was probably my favorite. They even have fish dishes for $5. Dunno how they make a profit. They are across the street from Stadium Park, tucked right before Ross. Street parking.
google avatar

Nat N.

Yelp
As the saying goes, sometimes you get what you pay for. For $5, you can't expect much. But, I did come here expecting to get what I ordered, but I swear the furikake ahi that I ordered was not AHI, but cod. It was a hefty serving of food for $5, but it was a little on the salty side. I wouldn't mind trying this place again, but I would opt to try a different dish, such as the hamburger steak or maybe one of the chicken bentos. I give the ladies who were working here props for their enthusiasm and friendliness.

Yelp
Five, Five Dollah, Five Dollah Bentoooooooooo!!!! Yes gangies, I said $5.00 dollar bento!!! If you folks drive around on Oahu, sooner or later you will see a truck or a sign that advertises $5.00 Bento. True to what they advertise, all of their bentos are $5.00 bucks...........not all of the items are tasty/good , but to be honest, a few items are actually pretty good! One of the items I come here for is the "Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce". I mainly pick up this bento for my pops, as he digs this dish! The Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce bento comes with a slab of fish marinated with that Asian sweet chili sauce, a scoop of white rice, and a scoop of corn. Not bad for just $5 bucks and some change for tax. If you're not into fish, they do have other items here, as they usually offer 10 to 15 different items. Like anything, it's a crap shoot on what you pick...........like I said before, not all of the items are tasty/good, but you really can't complain about a $5.00 bento, right? Located in the McCully/Moiliili neighborhood, you can find this $5.00 Bento outlet just next door from the Ross Dress for Less. Parking is basically street parking, but finding parking isn't an issue here. Lookin' for cheap eats? That $5.00 Bento may help your wallet! :D
google avatar

Lyn L.

Yelp
Depending on what you get the $5 is a desk. Roast pork is good, worth the $5 Shoyu chicken was hard and dry... they give 2 pieces but for me not edible so total waste. Mayo snapper... I did not care for either. Guess I'll need to get the roast pork when I can.

Yelp
Five Star to $5 Bento Box!! Who hasn't seen these vans all around town! Honestly I never gave it much though...no not because of the price or the simplicity placed mini van. I thought it was a single choice basic meal where you don't have much decisions like a grab and go style.....WRONG!! Not only they have at least a dozen choices it's all $5 (plus tax). Sadly it came to my attention only after watching it on the news with how they take a loss only to help support the community in need that are struggling to make ends meet. To make up some of the loss is the sale of shaved ice and some fancy pineapple smoothie in the pineapple which sadly this location isn't offering considering it's not a visitor location by any means but if they had some sort of upgrade drinks I'd be glad to support by picking up one from time to time. This location is fairly new in the former Yamagen location that's right before Ross's McCully and they had everything we love including Kale Pig & Cabbage, Fried Akule and Beef Stew! Today it was Pork Adobo and wow it does exactly that pork is so perfectly with that yummy vinegar goodness along with a scoop of rice topped with some furikake and corn. This location sells just the bento and $1 bottle water unlike the Ala Moana location though I encourage you to give them a try, I'm grateful for the though and process that makes this happen for our community as positivity is what makes this place Aloha!! Thank you!
google avatar

Lily F.

Yelp
$5 Bento Box is located at the former Yamagen Japanese restaurant. \ Instagram page is the_bento_guy. They have a website at Blue Hawaii Shrimp Hi. Hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Food are kept in a food container. Per a male employee, food is made in kitchen in Kalihi. The cashier didn't know anything about where the food is made. Shoyu chicken was dry. Pasteles Stew meat has some pieces were moist and some were tough. I might come again to try the hamburger steak. The employee were cooking the food should taste test the food because they make it in bulk.
google avatar

Mari T.

Yelp
What a deal for $5! I tried the sweet chili snapper (great flavor and had a small portion of chow fun), fried akule (not super fresh, wasn't my fave), and chocolate chip cookies (also not super fresh, a bit stale but decent flavor, tasted like toll house). I would def get the snapper again!
google avatar

Lentina V.

Yelp
All things considered, can't go wrong with a $5 + tax bento! You got your protein, rice, and a vegetable. Drinks are $1. Very affordable. Friendly folks running the truck, super casual and efficient. Their bentos are dropped off fully prepared so there's no waiting for your order to be made. Parking is plentiful now that Ross is (sadly) closed. There are also street parking stalls around the truck. I'd recommend going earlier in the day as they're fresher (or at least warmer).

Chris C.

Yelp
They have great customer service, and the bentos are delicious. I've been here a few times and recommended my job to order bentos from this business for a work function. Everyone loved it, and so did my family. I loved the bentos. Mahalo to Cheryl and the Fisherman Wharf food truck operaters they are awesome. I love all of their bentos. I have too many favorites, but my overall favorite is the snapper mayo. The presentation and the container is really nice that the food is stored in.

Ara L.

Yelp
We came out of McCully Bike and saw the $5 Bento Sign and ordered a scrumptious BBQ Pork and Hamburger Steak. Ate everything in two shakes of a lamb's tail. One of the best deals on the island. Great customer service. I'm convinced that these folk are angels. Jah bless

Veronica P.

Yelp
We had a last minute order the Monday before the funeral service on Saturday. Our caterers fell through, and cancelled on us last minute. But $5 Bento's whiz is now $6 came through and delivered the Bento's with our specific orderin a timely fashion. Teri Burger and Shoyu Chicken Bento's were filling and 'ono. Mahalo to Cheryl who worked diligently to make sure our order was placed and ready to be delivered on time by Gilbert!
google avatar

Eddie L.

Yelp
Bentos are incredibly reasonable at the $5 price. Staff are very personable and friendly. Great place to visit for your lunch and dinner!!!
google avatar

Maile N.

Yelp
If you see one of those $5 Bento Box white food trucks with the red sign, stop immediately and go there because they are no joke, legit, ono food like the Hamburger Steak and Gravy and Snapper Baked Mayonnaise we had both with corn and rice for $5!! They have 5 locations now (Ala Moana, 2 Kalihi, KCC and Mo'ili'ili) and menus can vary to include loco moco, garlic shrimp, furikake ahi, roast pork, fried chicken, pastelle stew, shoyu chicken, plus smoothies, shave ice and cookies! Oh my!
google avatar

Esther T.

Yelp
I get it 5 bucks is 5 bucks but, they should fill up the trays or is it you get what you order? I stop eating here we used to go all the time not anymore SEE YA
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
I had previously gone to the Ala Moana location and bought some bentos for work. One cannot complain about a $5 bento in today's day and age really. I did have a complaint that the oil used to cook the garlic chicken tasted like fish and the skin was tough. One of us got sick while I had to throw my $5 away (minus the corn and rice which saved my hungry stomach that day) but I don't care for fish at all. So, I decided to try it again today with a coworker. She ordered the furikake snapper (they don't have bones in the fish) and I ordered the hamburger steak and gravy. I have to say not bad for the hamburger steak and gravy. The portion is nice! Not too much and not to little but just right. I appreciate the kindness of all the workers both here on king street today and the Ala Moana location the last time. The ordering was fast, efficient and friendly. I like that. Today they even gave samples of the pineapple whip slush (?) It was rather delicious and refreshing. They said they will start selling this which is a nice plus!! I try to always return to a location and try something else if it didn't work the first time so that I can try something different. I'm really happy I found a better fix with hamburger steak. Price point is perfect and I'm so happy they have dessert too!! Thank you for thinking of the hard working locals who don't get many breaks with prices on this island!! Definitely a great idea for big bento parties where you cannot or don't want to spend a lot.
google avatar

Dianna R.

Yelp
Ok, so let me preface this review by saying it is a 5 dollar bento. You are NOT gonna expect some Panya or Mariposa level quality. This is a bento place. I am setting this 4 star rating for how much for what the products were. Now, for 5 dollars, this is pretty good. Depending on what you get. Not all the bento are made with the same skill. What you really want is the dole whip and pink colada smoothies at the location by ala moana. Those are really good. I had my smoothie in a pineapple and it was pretty damn fun to drink. Now, if you were going for food, I suggest their pork items. So far they have been good. Get white rice over fried when you can too. Avoid the curry. Fried chicken is supposedly pretty good. 5 dollars plus tax btw. So bring enough for tax.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
I gave this place a second chance. The first time we thought it was an accident and threw the bentos away since they were only $5 a piece. So a lost of ($10.47). And this is the second time the food has been spoiled. This is disgusting. They prepare the food in the morning and leave it in food coolers for the entire day. I got my beef curry and it smelled putrid I couldn't even chew the first bite. It smells like vomit. Someone is going to get sick - never again. And to add insult to injury the lady in charge of the booth was clearly under the influence.
google avatar

Mili-Lani D.

Yelp
It's cheap food! It filled me up. My appetite has gotten smaller, so if one is a big eater, might need two. I got the beef stew, 2 stars. Taste is meh, but good ratio of beef and veggies. I also got the shoyu chicken, 3 stars. Was tasty, better than stew. The bentos are premade and dropped off so what they get is what they get. Their inventory is restocked throughout the day and night I guess. Food is not hot, warm. Man, the worse was their corn, overcooked and blah. How can you screw up canned corn?? The cashier is friendly and nice. This is cheap food, those on a budget will appreciate it. But if you can afford to spend more, this is not the place!

Yelp
Review #24 for 2022. Awesome bentos for only $5! A friend and I wanted to grab some lunch, but we didn't want to spend much money. So we stopped by $5 Bento Box! Such a great deal for some great food. $5 bentos seem to be a piece of Hawaii history, but fortunately this place is keeping the trend alive, while not sacrificing taste and quality. My friend and I got the snapper and the pork eggplant. Both were delicious and came with rice and corn. It's not a ton of food, but just enough to satisfy. And if you need two plates, it's still only $10! Credit cards are accepted. Street parking only. Located just before the Ross on King Street.
google avatar

Baron S.

Yelp
Hit or miss on some of the availability of items due to popularity. They get several replenishments during the day so some things may not be sold out for long.
google avatar

Cindi B.

Yelp
Who knew $5 Bento Box would be perfect for my dad's funeral send off? In a time of post Covid, people are still very cautious and careful. $5 Bento Box clearly understands this and OMGee the compliments our family received because this bento was not just compact, easy to transport and distribute but Lawd, it was "slap yo momma, good"!! Or as islanders and my dad (RIP) would say, "Ono-licious!! Brok yo mout!!" Big mahalo to $5 Bento Box; if I lived here, I would eat a cheap lunch everyday. I'm only taking about your price bc your food is outstanding! The choices abundant!! Aloha!
google avatar

Customer C.

Yelp
I tried their cajun snapper and pastele stew, they both very tasty. Can't believe it's only $5 each, nowadays coffee even costs more...
google avatar

Stan M.

Yelp
What do you expect for five dollars? It's cheap and that is why people come here well except for the tourist. The tourist come here to drink their pineapple drinks and Hawaiian looking smoothies and just to take pictures with the pineapples holding it up smiling saying hey look we are in Hawaii. The local workers and mostly broke people come here for the food because it's $5. I wish I could say at least one of these plates taste good but its cheap food with hardly any taste. The one good thing about this place is that the workers get paid in cash. Their employees were telling locals to come work. But if you are on a budget and don't care what you eat because you need to eat something then this is the place for you.

rod i.

Yelp
Good food at a great price! The portions are terrific for $5 buks. When I first saw the wagons I thought $5 not worth it. Then one day my wife said we go try. We should have tried months before! That being said, not everything appeals to me but I go here about once a week. I live in Mililani so I come when I'm in town. I like the stews, roast pork and home made hamburger steak. The seafood not so much because they dry out faster. But hey, order what you like and if it's not enough, order 2! The people that work there are nice and patient and I don't know how they keep the cost down with those reusable plastic containers! Not to mention a free bag, Good deal!

Denny D.

Yelp
Roast Pork, Hamburger Steak and the Snapper with mayonnaise are my favorites. $6 for the Snapper, $5 for Roast pork and Hamburger steak. Portions are very filling. Where can you find this kind of prices nowhere. I'm definitely coming back! I'd liked to thank $5 Bento Box for taking care of the people!
google avatar

Greg D.

Yelp
this is the best place and deal on the planet. public parking right in front food is amazingly great for the price

Mary W.

Yelp
Please don't leave, your food is great for people who are on a budget! I always stop by if I go home that way. Keep up the ono food!
google avatar

Geoff P.

Yelp
Great price an good local style comfort food. They have a variety of $5 bento boxes made up from shoyu chicken to pulled roast pork. Both are 5 stars in taste and value. The bento portion size is large enough to feed two people or one very hungry person. If you really want to gorge out eat two bento boxes for just $10. This is a great place for local style fast food at prices cheaper than McDonalds. Try them out and enjoy!
google avatar

D T.

Yelp
Beef curry was pretty good but there was a strong celery taste which I didn't mind. It was a little spicy.

Danny F.

Yelp
Tried everything on the menu. Every choice tasted great! They also give as much food as other drive-in's mini plate at half the price! Also, very friendly workers at the Moili'ili site. My favorites are Hamburger steak, Roast pork, Cajun snapper, and BBQ pork.

Allen L.

Yelp
Good prices and selection. Parking nearby. Portion good size. Tastes good. Convenient location

Melinda M.

Yelp
Not only did I work for this company but the $5 bentos are the best The owner Gilbert is awesome with staff made me feel like at home

Helen T.

Yelp
Good for budget meals, not so much for when you're looking for tasty ones. Portions are pretty big, can eat across two meals if you don't have a big appetite. There's a lot of meat despite the price tag. Meat was very dry in both chicken adobo and kalua pork. Chicken adobo had a lot of pepper while the kalua pork needed more salt (was very white). Corn was okay, a tad saltier than one would expect. The dole whip was refreshing. I think this is a very good place to come to if you want to fill yourself on a few bucks, but do not expect much when it comes to flavor.

Chansaea K.

Yelp
Food was cold. Service was good tho. They should keep food in warmer because food tasted like it was going about to spoil.

Kaui K.

Yelp
Ordered 25 bentos for my students. Service was the bomb and shoyu chicken was 'ono. Will order again before the semester is over! Mahalo nui

Dora R. T.

Yelp
love this place, wish they were also in kapolei
