Time was that P-Town had two major whale-watching companies, but now it is down to one--The Dolphin Fleet. They do not take their customers for granted, however!
First, the two boats we used on our 2024 trip to P-Town were sparkling clean and well staffed. The on-board naturalist was interesting and knowledgeable about Cape marine life, especially the visiting humpbacks. I truly believe that the naturalists are as excited to see these majestic creatures are the passengers are, and that makes seeing whales even more special.
I am especially impressed with the boat captains who know how to maneuver the boat around the whales at a close but respectful distance. The whales we spotted seemed very comfortable having us hang around watching them.
If you have never been on a whale watch--do it! Whales love the Cape in summer, and finding them is not a problem for the Dolphin Fleet folks. If you have enjoyed a whale watch in the past, go on another one. I have been on dozen of whale watches, and no two are like. I hope to go on many more.
My husband took this photo on a trip we took in September '21. This was my first double humpback breach, and it was absolutely thrilling.
