STAY AWAY from Dom Boutique and Heraklion!!!
My wife and I booked the best suite, room in this hotel, for 5 nights, and received hindrance not welcome.
We requested a private guide to drive us for a full day and give us personal historical cultural tour of a part of Crete. We contacted the guide recommended by the hotel and booked him based on their recommendation. We were met by a man driving a very uncomfortable large van. The windows would not open and it was a van with uncomfortable seats with no armrests and seats for 9 people. We are in our sixties and requested a guide who could be understanding of my wife's limited ability to walk long distances. Sitting in the back of a large van going over highways with bumps that left us airborne and swinging back and forth over mountain switch backs made us nauseous throughout the day. The guide provided a few comments at each stop like here's the plaka, would you like 20 minutes. He made phone calls and kept turning the music up when we requested he lower the music.
At the end this wasted day, we learned our guide was never a guide at all. Guides in Greece have education requirements and a LICENCE!
Our hotel recommended guide Petros had no license. We paid a whopping $544 for a GUIDE recommended by Antonis at Dom Boutique Hotel.
After travelling mostly independently to Europe for over 30 years, Heraklion is the ONLY location in Europe we would recommend to no Americans. You are not welcome here! Booming club music plays for blocks from afternoon to way after midnight from restaurants all over the city. There is no peaceful place to relax.
If you want to be cheated, scammed and lied to on your vacation every day, by all means travel to Herkilon and Crete.
Restaurants who were not full would say they were full or had reservations because they would not serve Americans.
At one bar/restaurant we ordered 2 beers, the server said our credit card did not go through after 4 tries, so we paid cash. We stayed at the table and called our bank. Four transactions were processed. When we brought this up with the staff and management, we were told to return the next day to request a refund.
On the Hop on Hop Off Bus from Knossos Archeological Site stop to the next stop the Archeological Museum the driver did not inform us that he was taking another route we were left far from our destination.
There is more but there is a limit to words.
Don't ever go to Dom Boutique Hotel or Heraklion.
