Stunning baroque cathedral right in the heart of Innsbruck. From the outside it already looks impressive, but the real highlight is the interior — it’s incredibly beautiful. The details, architecture, and atmosphere are amazing. Please note that access to the interior shown in the photos requires a small entrance fee of €1, which is absolutely worth it. A peaceful and memorable place to visit, even if you’re just passing through the city

The most important Catholic cathedral in Innsbruck’s Old Town, renowned as a masterpiece of Baroque architecture with exceptionally rich interior decoration. Its greatest treasure is the revered painting Maria Hilf (Mary of Succor), one of the most important devotional images in Austria, southern Germany, and the Tyrol region. A church dedicated to St. James existed here even earlier, but the current cathedral was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1717 and 1724. Admission is free, though donations can be made via a kiosk at the entrance.

Amazing church! Probably just in Vatican you can find something similar. I don’t understand how people aren’t giving 5 stars to this place. Talking about 1 euro per picture - it is written as a donation, nobody is collecting this pay. So if you are in Innsbruck it’s a must to visit this church and don’t be afraid of donations

The cathedral was built in the Baroque period of the 18th century, dedicated to the apostle St. James. According to the plans of the architect Johann Jakob Herkomer, the cathedral was built between 1717 and 1724 on the site of a Romanesque church from the 12th century. When you enter this beautiful church, you are captivated by its rich decoration. There are so many details that you would have needed much more time to see it than we had available.

Dom St. Jakob is absolutely stunning inside — a beautiful baroque cathedral with elaborate frescoes, ornate altars, and a peaceful atmosphere. The ceiling paintings and marble work are breathtaking, and it’s surprisingly quiet given its central location. A must-see for art, architecture, or history lovers — and a lovely place to pause and reflect during a walk through Innsbruck’s old town.

Yelp
Currently under massive renovation. According to The guidebook they didn't use to charge for admission but now they charge a 10 euro donation for the renovation. Inside is completely filled with scaffolding. The only worthwhile feature is that since the scaffolding is built all the way up to the ceiling this is your chance to see some of the murals on the ceiling really close. But you can't see a lot as you are only allowed to go up the one narrow central staircase and can't walk around on the planks which are only for the workmen. Better wait till the reno is finished by the end of the year, otherwise it's not really worth the 10 euros to just see the scaffolding and a very small part of the frescos. The rating is for the condition it is in right now. No doubt it'll be great when the renovation is finished.

Yelp
What a beautiful church. It opens at 10:15 am. Pay 1 Euro so you can take pictures inside.

Yelp
This Baroque church is amazing. The Inside is one of the most gorgeous Baroque confections I've ever seen. I'd love to be here for a recital- since its organ is magnificent. Don't miss this church.
