The Wintergarden in Auckland’s domain has two glass houses restored recently and one with plants from temperate and one tropical climate. There are frogs and tadpoles, at the moment, in the warm water pool with the water lilies. Very picturesque and a touch of England’s Victorian grandeur on the other side of the world. It doesn’t take too long to see it all but slow down a notch and it’s worth visiting if you’re in the domain already. Don’t forget to go through the gate aptly titled the Fernery!

One side/building is temperate and the other is tropical. Bother are lovely to look at. Didn't take us long to look through. About 10 minutes per side max. Pretty pictures though and the blooming wisteria smelled lovely.

So pretty and tranquil! The weather was pretty miserable and the stroll through the gardens made us all feel lighter and happier. Gorgeous flowers!

I visited the Domain Wintergardens in Auckland Domain and left absolutely enchanted—here’s my glowing review: 🌿 5‑★ Review: Auckland Domain Wintergardens Atmosphere & Setting Tucked away in the peaceful Auckland Domain, the Wintergardens feel like a hidden retreat amidst the city’s hustle. From the moment you step into the courtyard with its sunken pond and classical marble statues, it’s clear this place was built to transport you. Glasshouses & Plant Life The two glasshouses are stunningly beautiful: one housing seasonal temperate flora, and the other a tropical oasis with orchids, palms, and exotic blooms. The contrast in climates and plant varieties keeps things exciting as you wander. Fernery & Historical Nod Don’t miss the fernery—an atmospheric chill zone nestled in an old volcanic quarry, brimming with ferns and native plant life. A refreshing contrast to the lush greenhouse interiors. Ambience & Experience It’s calm, photogenic, and serene—ideal for reading, strolling, or snapping beautiful shots. The heritage architecture, light-filled vaults, and fragrant greenery create a peaceful, almost magical environment. Practical Perks • Free admission—no entry fee for the Wintergardens. • Convenient central location—right next to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Combine your visit for a perfect culture-and-nature day out. • Weekday parking & leisurely cafes nearby make it hassle-free to plan around a relaxing
