What to Do in Central Hokkaido, Japan's Tranquil Northern Escape | Condé Nast Traveler

"At Domaine Raison in Furano I found a rising star of Japanese winemaking with a playful, sustainable edge — they use goats to graze and fertilize the vines, and their distinctive orange wine showcases Hokkaido’s cool‑climate character." - Jonnie Bayfield

Domaine Raison is a beautiful and welcoming spot that offers much more than just wine. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by a clean, well-organized space. To the left is a wine shop offering tastings of their locally produced wines, and to the right is a cozy café where we enjoyed a delicious soft-serve ice cream — complete with a cute goat-shaped cookie on top. Behind the main building is the farm, and we were lucky to visit during the lambing season. It was such a special experience to see the baby goats up close — and even more so to be able to feed them milk and food. It truly felt surreal and heartwarming. The staff were very friendly and attentive, even though the place was quite busy when we visited. Everything was well-run and clearly cared for. Domaine Raison is a great stop for families, animal lovers, or anyone looking to enjoy a relaxed farm-and-wine experience in Hokkaido. Highly recommended if you're in the area!

It was brunch and they were still prepping to open when we arrived. We visited during baby goat season - when mama goats are giving birth to their babies! And they happily invited us to their farm at the back to see the baby goats. They were very kawaii. Such a wonderful experience ☺️ Then we ordered food, mine was hamburg with some veggies and it was delicious! I am not sure if the sauce or the meat (beef) was marinated in wine or something. They have a lot of wine options as well! You can get free taste of their featured wine as seen on the video. We chose the sweetest one which is also a popular choice among wine lovers!! Overall, the place is really lovely, spacious and full of interesting stuff! You can come here for the food, the wine, dessert, their featured chocolate and of course the goats!

Stop here for lunch after visiting Farm Tomita. The food is delicious. The beef and pork is tender and not tough. They also serve goat ice cream. After eating you can go to the back of the restaurant to view and feed the goats. You can purchase the goat feed and milk to feed them. They also sell wine as they have their own grapes vineyard.

Made a quick stop for lunch here before heading to Farm Tomita. Food was good, they had a bunch of wine available and a wide farm at the back with goats and vinery. Chill place.

It was fun to feed the kids with milk bottles. I like the sweet white wine.

This place is a winery that also has goats and sells goats cheese. You can actually buy special baby goat milk or goat food and feed their baby goats, or just pet them! Cuteness overload!
