Domestique Coffee - Satellite (Avondale)

This place has such a great vibe! The coffee itself is not the greatest compared to other coffee shops but it's still good. The atmosphere is so fun! Very nostalgic with all the old retro video games. They have so many board games, gaming set ups, XL checkers, etc. it was very busy and seemed to be super popular spot!

So lucky to have this shop right down the street from my home office. As a busy Realtor in Birmingham, its a perfect place to meet with clients and business partners--light, whimsical and great coffee. You MUST try items on the seasonal menu featuring Domestique Coffee. Support local. Great stuff. Friendly staff.

This is our favorite coffee shop in Birmingham! We come here everytime we are in town. Not only is the coffee amazing, but the environment is so fun. They have tons of board games to play while you sip on your drink. There is really something for everyone here! The baristias are always welcoming, and their service is impeccable. This is a must stop shop!

Excellent place to grab a coffee in a chill atmosphere. We grabbed some coffees and chocolate cookies, it was all very good. The place was emptier in the early morning and then got quite busy a couple hours later. Though it’s not super quiet, it’s not loud either, and I found it easy to work in a bunch of things while I was there. Staff were nice and service was prompt. The atmosphere was a bit eclectic which frankly made it feel fresh and fun. Oh, and they have video games!! I’d come back!

After the disappointment of Santos (re: Santos coffee review) I felt compelled to course correct. Hence, I find myself in the Avondale district of Birmingham at Domestique Coffee Roasters Satellite Coffee. Thank you Sir, may I have another. Overall the service , presentation, and flavor was fantastic. So, should you find yourself in Birmingham I suggest you drive, Uber, Lift, cycle, or walk to Satellite. You will leave happy. Awesome place to get your caffeine fix, espressos and cortados are served on actual glassware with sparkly water to refresh your palate. They use the Wavelength beans to make their espressos and it tasted great. Love that they made an effort to make the beautiful latte art on the cortado. Just overall excellent vibes in here.

I would normally rave about this place. It has a great vibe with a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere. There are stacks of board games, video games and tons of space for you and your friends to hang out. The staff is normally friendly and helpful so after visiting Alabama last year with such a great coffee shop experience, I was excited to revisit Domestique Coffee today. I went up to the register to ask for a breve latte with cinnamon powder, which is my favorite. I was immediately told by the staff member that they can't use half and half for a latte. I was confused and let out a quick, "Is it physically impossible, because I make one every morning?" which I do admit was a little snarky. The person staring back at me, unphased by my remark, filled me in that it would be too expensive to allow. The lovely employee proceeded to tell me my other only options. I was defeated and could only remark, "Oatmilk I guess." Sorry for the cinematic details. I say all this to ask, Domestique Coffee, will you please add a breve button on your super star employee's screen so that they don't feel like their customers are trying to steal money from them. Please charge what is necessary so that next time I can have my favorite coffee without causing grief. Thank you and many blessings to your business and your staff.

This place is such a gem! They have a ton of board games, vibrant decor and the staff are so kind. I ordered a matcha latte which was delicious. Definitely a must if in the area!

Good coffee in a cool space and rocket themed room. I usually get a cappuccino and theirs is very good. It's also a good place to sketch or to work on your laptop.

It's important to understand what this place is. It's many things. A coffee shop, slash bar, slash event space, slash concert hall. In Avondale if fits right in with the weirdness of the neighborhood.

MAY YOUR DAYS BE BREWTIFUL! After showing Courtney Sozo today, we decided on taking a walk. We had never been down to Avondale before. And if we had it was briefly passing through. But tonight we got to take the time to inspect and walk around the little town. It is a quaint part of Southside Birmingham. There are a few restaurants, breweries, clothing boutiques and other local businesses. At one point both of us looked at each other and said "i need a coffee pick me up" And just like a mirage we saw Domestique Satellite. Right there in front of our very eyes. I looked at the coffee menu and thought that it looked familiar, but then it dawned on me that the coffee that they sell here is Domestique coffee. I have grown to love Domestique coffee. I ordered the nitro cold brew. But the barista made a comment that they might not have it. She checked for me and the tap was out. So sad, however, she was able to suggest something else. I winded up getting the PR cold brew instead. It has hints of chocolate notes in it. We winded up adding some milk and sugar to it since drinking it black was wayyy too strong for both of us. Now this place is so different from any other coffee/bar in town. It is a combination of a coffee shop, a bar, a game room and if you walk through the two doors you will be inside the music hub of Birmingham, Saturn! Satellite has so many fun video games, board games and even some computer games to play. It is more of an experience then a coffee shop. You can come in here and spend hours just hanging out with friends, playing games, drinking coffee or alcohol as they do have a full bar too. For what ever reason, I have noticed that Birmingham has a lot of their bars/restaurants named after something to do with Space. There is Neon Moon, Saturn & Satellite among others. Such a fun place! I will definitely be coming back and brining friends from out of town who visit!

Alabama seems to have a theme of loving space: Huntsville has the Space and Rocket Center, whereas Birmingham lets you actually go to space... well at least the next best thing to actually going to space... which is Domestique. This was by far the coolest coffee shop I've ever been to. Other than at home, where else can you play pinball, video games, and board games while sipping on coffee? I went with their Peloton iced coffee and it was your basic, but delicious, cold brew. They also had some good looking pastries that I decided to skip out on. When in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham, you have to give this place a visit.

We went here Saturday morning to try a new coffee place. Normally we travel to the Pepper Place district to a place over there but tried something in the neighborhood. Everyone ordered a chi latte. I always like something hot so I ordered mine last. My daughter ordered an iced latte and my wife said I will have the same as her. The server was corrected when she came close to heating my wife's order but she iced it. She appeared upset at being corrected. My wife's order was not satisfactory as the cup wasn't filled to top and foam wasn't added. We all have bad days so may try back again. The place is really different and nice inside. There's special brew coffee packages. They have tons of board games. While leaving I noticed there appeared to be a radio station inside. See the picture. There was no menu on the wall, that I noticed nor printed menus.we asked for one. Oh yeah my hot latte was as delicious even after I reheated its little later

This place has the potential to be very cool. Coffee shop with a bar and games. They have a ton of board games, pinball machine and game stations. Upon entry the space is open and super cute. Definitely an instagram worthy spot. I went with my parents to this location, we all ordered chai tea lattes (2 iced & 1 hot). I only have 2 remarks regarding this place that kind of threw my expense off. This spot does not have a menu posted inside so unless you already know what you want it can be kind of difficult to have the staff go through what all they serve and the flavors, not an ideal situation to me. Also, the lady at the counter started off decent with the customer service but somewhere along the lines I guess she got frustrated because my mom ordered an iced chai tea latte and she did not hear her say iced. The lady began making a hot chai tea latte and my mom informed her that she requested the drink to be iced. The employee was clearly upset by this and only filled her cup up partially and did not add the foam as previously requested. We went to this location to support the coffee shop in our neighborhood but due to the customer service we will not be returning.

So this place is actually located inside Saturn right on the corner of 41st street and 2nd ave, across from Avondale brewery. If you're driving down the street looking for it, that's probably important to know. One good thing about this place is that they also have a full bar and so if you want, you can get a nice shot of espresso to wake up, and then immediately start drinking. There's lots of seating, it's easy to park early in the day, and while they were a bit short on pastries today, the one I got, which was among the last ones left was pretty good. There aren't a ton of coffee spots in the immediate area, so if you're strolling about in Avondale and you get the need for caffeine, then this place is a godsend. Good prices, nice space, friendly crew, excellent coffee. Definitely worth a visit.

Great experience today stopping in. Don't you worry, those pictures will come through soon. My brother in law has been a fan of Domestique Coffee for a long time. So when a coffee connoisseur friend came in from out of town, this was the recommendation that was given. I personally did not go with him. But when my wife wanted to fight off the cold with a delicious coffee, I checked it out myself. I have been to concerts next door many times. So I was familiar with the theme, decor and overall layout. I only came previously when it was crowded pre-concert. So it was interesting to see with very few people in there. The video games definitely appeal to me. And they have board games for DAYS. The staff was amazing. And the coffee was also top notch. Could not recommend my experience any more. The barista was passionate about the coffee and the place where she was serving it. Five Stars with 100% certainty.

Fun ambience and nice staff. This place is probably better in the evening but I'm here at noon and wish I went somewhere else. The vibe is "bar that's not open yet." And my pastry was not warm enough to taste good. And the wifi is not good enough for me to get work done. Would come back only to check it out as a bar/music venue space but NOT as a cafe.

Fun place. It's a bar (well, technically, Saturn is the bar). It's a coffee place inside a bar. But its all going into space. And its all orange in color. The retro space rocket theme of the shared space is complemented by board games and a ton of legacy home gaming systems. Super whimsical. Friendly folks.

I have been to this location before and had a good time. Stephen or stephan was acting crazy. The woman that took my order seemed to throw my money at me. They are having a bad three months.

My everyday go to. I love the staff and the owners. Everyone is so kind. And they make amazing coffee in a timely manner. Would recommend forever!

I ran out of coffee today and so I went here because it was the closest coffee shop to my house. No one greeted me when I arrived. I had to call a phone number, the person who answered wasn't even in the building. They did not have any whole bean coffee...they are a coffee roaster. They asked for a tip when I paid online. I have always thought that a tip was given after service.

My husband doesn't like any coffee except what he makes at home with his aeropress... but he likes the coffee here even better! Such a FUN atmosphere and we loved going for a Saturday afternoon date.

Within Saturn lies Domestique Satellite. By day they offer coffee and tea, at night? Drinks, and lots of it. This is basically Saturn's bar. Service is usually pretty efficient and quick. It's really laid back and chill during the day, the crowd is a bit rowdier at night. There's always a show playing so Saturn stays pretty busy during the night time. They also host game nights and little weekly events as well. Not your typical coffee shop or bar, but that's what makes it, it.

Awesome place, great atmosphere, great coffee and great service! I was in town working for a couple days and needed a good spot to grab coffee, this is it! There was plenty of parking, and it's right off the main road. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in town.

I've had my fair share of coffee shops and this tops the list. Absolutely without question. Nearly 50 board games on the back wall, 20 different gaming systems dating back to early 90's, full coffee and drink bar. Coffee quality is excellent. truly breaking the mold. Stellar job!

hands down the best coffee in Birmingham. I highly recommend going and buying a bag of single origin Guatemala.

My favorite coffee shop in Birmingham. Have been getting curbside until this morning when after sitting outside for 30 minutes and placing 6 unanswered phone calls I walked inside. The woman behind the counter told me they'd never done curbside and had her mask down below her chin. My coffee has been sitting there and was cold-no email address the site indicates you'll get when your order is ready. I get that Covid causes problems but she had no one else in there and could have easily had her mask on properly.
