Don Manuel

Stayed here for a night before taking the ferry in the morning. It's fine for what it is. It's a safe hotel and the receptionist was friendly. But it's not all that nice - the air conditioning doesn't work and neither my bathroom window or my bathroom door shut so i had to contend with a few mosquitoes. Also my shower head didn't have a holster, but i did have hot water after 5 minutes. Room smelt a bit of cigarettes and the bed was just fine.

The rooms very completely clean and the beds were comfortable. AC was working well with a remote. Walls are a bit thin so I could hear some noises late night but nothing problematic.||Receptionists are not speaking English but we were able to solve the little requests we had (for example holding our bags while we went out to Tarifa).||Going out at night is a bit sketchy as the locals are let's keep this way not born Spanish and can get you a bit uncomfortable (anyway not much happening here during the night as this is a transit city).||What was really poor is the quality of the kitchen. It looks like no one is really cleaning it, towels and sponges are dirty. This is a really let down and should not be difficult to change.||All in all the place is well located and this is a very good place to get to Gibraltar, Estepona, Tarifa and other close places which are much better than this.

Accommodation is of an acceptable standard for the price. ||The town is very much a passage route and NOT family based ||Hotel accommodation is acceptable for the price. All staff are friendly however minimal English, no bar or eating facilities within; however local bars plentiful. ||Hotel ideally requires a referb; No plug for bath or sink. Plug socket next to bed didn't work so had to use bathroom. Window in bathroom didn't shut so first nite got bitten to pieces. Shower head holder incorrect so difficult to shower but managed. Had to turn water off to toilet as would not stop. I would stay here again as it's reasonably priced and staff are lovely!. ||Algerias is very much a passage route and NOT family based. It is a city with little happening for tourists however local to gibralter and taffria and local beech resorts. I stayed for four nites and found things to do but NOT within the city. Few local bars however many are shut now (meson algecrias is my favourite top of the street). I did not go into town at nite as felt a little uneasy due to prostitution on the street outside and local persons whom I felt Un comftable with! It is safe enough u just need to keep your whits about u!. I am told in the centre it's more Spanish WITHOUT these problems.

I was transiting in Algericas for one night in November 2017 and I searched a budget place in walking distance from the Bus terminal and to the Heliport.||This hotel has fit perfectly. Room was simple, but clean. It had even a bath tub. WIFI worked well. Old furniture, but I didn’t mind.||The man at the reception did not speak english, but no problems at check-in and check-out.

This is a very basic hotel and we only stayed there as we had a 5.30 am ferry to catch. However, the room was clean and adequate although it was on the main street. If you want a quiet room, ask for one at the back.

Basic but clean and efficient. Owner and staff helpful. 5 minutes walk from the ferry so a good stopover location. Excellent WIFI in room. No food but close to lots of restaurants and next door to a mini-mart for essentials. Rarely, for Andalucia, the staff seem to care about the client.

Algeciras is very much a transit town, and the Hotel Don Manuel is handily located for the key transport nodes: the railway and bus stations and the ferry terminal for Cueta and Tangiers. Just a few minutes walk to each.||Our room was basic and sparsely furnished, though spacious and very clean. It did have free WIFI and a TV on the wall with English language programs from Gibraltar (peculiar as some of them were). ||I got the idea it was perhaps located in 'the Arab quarter': there are a couple of excellent Arab bakeries nearby while we enjoyed a delicious meal at the Moroccan restaurant across the road. (Definitely no vino.)||On the downside, in the evening some largish groups of men seemed to congregate in a couple of the streets between the hotel and the downtown area (near the bakeries), which could be a little off-putting for a woman travelling alone.

I haven't stayed in hotels like these since I worked in Russia and had to travel around provincial towns in the early 2000s. A massive building which has clearly seen better days. I think I was actually the only guest staying at that hotel. Which kind of tells you something. Everything about this hotel, - from the decor, to staff, to furniture, - looks tired and in need of some TLC.
