I recently went to Don Pedro's and while the location, view, and food were amazing, the experience was a bit disappointing. The view was stunning, and the food was top-notch -- everything we ordered was delicious.
That said, I couldn't help but notice a weird difference in how we were treated compared to other diners. We were seated at a table one row back from the best ones, which were closer to the beach. Twice, I was offered tables in the back row. When I asked about the best tables, I was told they were "reserved." Later, I noticed that one of the tables I had inquired about earlier, was taken by a group of American tourists.
Curious, I asked one of them how they got those prime spots, and they told me they didn't have a reservation. They had just walked up to the restaurant to order drinks and an appetizer. They left rather quickly. Meanwhile, we had a full meal with appetizers, entrees, drinks, and dessert. It made me wonder if it was because I don't look "American enough" or if it had something to do with me speaking Spanish fluently.
I could've said something right then and there, but I decided to wait and see how things turned out, hoping maybe I had just misunderstood or made a wrong assumption. Unfortunately, it became pretty clear that the staff was giving more attention to the American customers than to others. Our waters were not refilled, we had to ask for straws and even had to ask them to remove some plates off the table when we were done eating. This really soured the experience for me. The food and view were great, but because of the uneven service, I won't be coming back.
