"One of only a couple dozen surviving C-97 Stratofreighters, this plane’s fate saw it flown into the now-closed Dodgeville Municipal Airport in Wisconsin and subsequently’s towed to the Don Q Inn, where it now sits in a field. The original plan for the military transport aircraft, which never took shape, was to open it as a coffee shop. Since then it has often been used for filming commercials, and the fuselage was once signed by Farrah Fawcett. The C-97 was developed by Boeing towards the end of World War II, based on the B-29 bomber. The first Stratofreighter flew on July 8, 1947, and the model was used during the Berlin Airlift and Korea War. Only 56 were ever built. Sadly, this C-97 has been neglected and is looking rather shabby. But there are stairs up to an open door and it can be viewed free of charge." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

A very unique place. The themed rooms are a lot of fun. All of the themed rooms have their own hot tub. There is also a public pool room and hot tub. The rooms are nice, but very dated (which I don't mind, I like cool old things). The decor is very retro and fun. The staff was very friendly and really took pride in their inn. It is not your typical hotel and provides a very different experience.

Great place with great service and a very fun, quirky atmosphere. Close to town for food and fun. The airplane in the front yard is free to tour. The church steeple out front is still a mystery to us and had us very intrigued. Hubby and I stayed in tranquility base #2 for one night. Comfy bed, nice HOT tub, and a mini fridge. The pool was nice and clean and the hot tub was hot. In the pool you can swim under the wall into the outdoor pool area, which was cool. Hotel is old but the owners are constantly making improvements and it shows. It's outdated in the most perfect ways. They are doing an amazing job running this place, I can't wait to go back and try a different themed room.

My girlfriend and I came from St. Louis to visit House on The Rock. Great service from the front desk, and the room that we got was presented with cleanliness. A bit outdated but I do appreciate that they’re trying to renovate it a piece at a time. We also enjoyed the public pool & hot tub. Our favorite experience was the bath tub in our room! It was very romantic & relaxing knowing we had a hotel room that definitely served its purpose; overall a great hotel for any couple

This place is super quirky and gives off House on the Rock vibes! They have themed rooms (and normal ones), a massive plane parked out front that you can go inside, and even have a honeymoon suite in an old steeple (currently not rentable but super cool nonetheless!). The hotel is under new ownership so they're currently doing some remodeling. The owners are super friendly, continental breakfast is what is to be expected at every hotel that offers it, and the pool is open later than most others. The pool is actually super cool because the pool connects to the outside as well. They have a massive fire pit in the lobby that is surrounded by old barber's chairs. Don't be afraid to ask the front desk clerk to light the fire! There is so much history to this place including that there used to be a tunnel under the hotel that led to a bar & grill on the property (that sadly burned down in 2017). The history of this place is insanely cool and I highly recommend doing research on this place, whether you're staying or not. It's truly magnificent! I definitely recommend staying here seeing as it's very unique and one of a kind!

Currently looks like a remodel is happening. Which it does need. The carpets look new and the base panels have been removed. Other than that it is a cozy and quiet hotel. With an interesting decor. This is definitely a memorable place. It is not 5 stars and I like it that way. It feels more like a getaway than a sterile hotel. The airplane outside had degraded over time but still an interesting sight.

With a place like this, you really have to ask yourself about what your expectations are. Middle of nowhere Wisconsin and you're looking at fantasy suites. So you like the weird and bizarre. Great. This place will probably be fantastic for you. At the same time, temper your expectations. I do building maintenance, so I have a unique viewpoint. There are definite problems with the way things are being maintained and I think this has something to do with both the skill of the workers as well as the budget. We first booked "the cave" room, which was actually really great to see and would have probably been a lot of fun, but the problem was a water issue. The staff must have already been aware of it, because there was a dehumidifier in the room already and a soaking wet spot on the carpet, along with a mildew smell. I'm thinking, bad idea to have carpet next to your tub. So we asked to be moved to a different room. And I had to take a minute to say that the staff was amazing. Incredibly friendly. Incredibly understanding. Seemed like really great people. So, they moved us to the casino room... It was sleezy in the most fun, ironic kind of way. You have to embrace the bit and the craziness of it. The problem is some of the corners that are being cut, either because of budget or skill. They put mirrors on the ceiling, which is hilarious, but they're obviously flexible plastic, which makes you look like youre in a fun house. You can look around and see places that need to be painted, laminate that's chipping off, caulking that isn't done with any amount of skill. All that being said, it is fun and wild and a better story than staying at some chain hotel with no character. Regardless of its flaws, if I'm ever back in this direction, I'm staying here again.

Google
Such an amazing hotel! I cannot say enough great things about this place. It's old, but eclectic. The owners and staff are super friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a standard two queen and the room was spacious. The beds and pillows are comfy, nice fluffy towels, clean warm pool, and a yummy continental breakfast with scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage links, bagles, bread, cereal, waffles, coffee and a variety of juices. The old airplane out front is a bonus! Fun to explore and take pictures in. The Don Q is a gem!!!

We stayed in northern lights room, and although it needs some fixing up it was a neat experience. There was an old shampoo bottle left under cleft of bathroom cabinet some spots in shower that could use bleach (top).. but customer service was amazing very friendly and nice QUIET location for me and the hubby to relax!!

Yelp
Unique, quirky, different! Someone recommended this place because of the unique themed rooms. We reserved our room online with no problems. The staff was warm and welcoming when we arrived to check in. Interior decorations are fun. There is a giant fire pit in the middle of the lobby. There is a circle of old barber chairs around the fireplace. The gentleman at the front desk said they have nightly fires and sit around and chat. We had planned to go to but got a little tired. We took our stuff to our room. We were right down the stairs and the first door at the bottom of the stairs. We rented the Cave room. The door even was decorated to look like rock. We felt safe as we were able to shut our cave door and lock it as needed. As you walk in the room you see the Jacuzzi tub. The waterfall fills the tub when you turn on the water. The tub needs a little maintenance but still usable. The walls, floor and ceiling all are made to look like a cave. They have a few lights to so you don't stub your toes and also a white sound machine with projecting lights to make it look like your cave has stars and the sound of crickets. The hotel is dated, but that is not preventing us from this adventure. The unique themed rooms brought us here. Have that open mind for this place. The bed is round! There is plenty of room but it made us laugh that you have to crawl across it to get to the head of the bed. Everything in the room worked. The wifi is touch and go in this room, but you are below ground. There is a fridge right within arms length of the bed. There is a decent sized shower and we loved that there was 2 televisions. One over the Jacuzzi tub and one near the bed. It was one the coolest hotel stays we ever done. We were only a short drive to the House on the Rock. The breakfast had biscuits, gravy, meat and eggs in the morning. It looks like it would have been decent. The coffee, I suggest skipping. There was juice and other options. Again the staff was nice. They greeted us when they saw us and wished us well as we left. This is the place out of the ordinary and I would recommend a stay here. Don't forget to check out the plane out front. Its not kept up, but its got some cool history.

Yelp
The Don Q Inn is such an amazing place to stay, all the rooms are very nice and clean. The staff there are very friendly and helpful with any of your questions. Definitely coming back again!

LeAnna Q.

Yelp
Loved the Don Q Inn! We got the last themed room available - the shotgun room. It felt like every trailer I've ever been in. It was so perfect. Lots of unique and custom touches all over the hotel. The indoor/outdoor pool was wonderful. Staff was super nice despite it being a chaotic Saturday night with an entire bus load of college kids staying. I will say the breakfast was not good. If you want something truly unique & fun though, try out the Don Q Inn! I look forward to coming back!

Anna L.

Yelp
The staff is great. The accommodations are old but nothing wrong with them. Pool is clean. Nice and quiet. Very quirky decor. In the lobby there's an enormous fireplace surrounded by barber chairs. The room doors mimic stable doos. I stayed in a regular room. My friend stayed in 2 of the fantasy suites and liked them a lot. The breakfast is pretty good. Great biscuits. Could use some fruit.

Christine C.

Yelp
We LOVED this place! The Fantasuites are SO cool! We couldn't decide which one to stay in, so the first night we stayed in Tranquility Base 1, and the second night we stayed in Northern Lights. Walking into Tranquility 1 was a serious jaw-dropper! And Northern Lights was awesome, almost like staying in your favorite miniature golf place. Both rooms were amazing! The barber chairs in the lobby were really neat, as well. The breakfast was a passable Great Value brand fare, but it fuels you up enough for your day at House on the Rock, which is only 10 minutes away. Another great thing was how great the water pressure is in the place! You usually don't find that in older motels. The biggest thing that made a difference was TK, the owner. He was so nice and so helpful! We discovered at about 10:30 PM that the lights in our igloo weren't working. He found some lights and came to our room and installed them right then and there! Anything that was wrong, he immediately responded, and was super friendly! He told us he has owned the place for seven years, and when he acquired it, the Fantasuites were run down and closed off. But he revitalized them and brought them back to their original fabulous life! If you want a boring motel, go elsewhere. If you want retro, kitschy, crazy, awesome, definitely stay here!

Yelp
NOPE. My wife and I stayed here because there were no other rooms available at other hotels nearby Spring Green. We did not stay in a "fantasuite," and I am quite positive this option would not have improved the experience. This is the second worse hotel experience we have had in our 30 years of marriage and that is really saying something. Our worse hotel experience involved a room that was a converted banquet hall and a rain-soaked sofa on the balcony. So, let me begin this review that I hope serves as a public service announcement for those considering this establishment. First, upon arriving at about 10 pm, we got an inescapable, "Friday the 13th-Freddy Krueger," "Halloween-Michael Myers" vibe from this barn-shaped hotel with a creepy looking white steeple building at one end. It didn't help that the door to our hotel room was open when we arrived after walking down a hallway that seemed inspired by "The Shining." I kept expecting the two creepy blond twins to suddenly appear in the hallway. But, another important part of the initial experience is the overwhelming smell as you enter the building. The odor was one I imagined as "old age and fear" with a booster dose of mustiness and hot tub mold. The smell reminded me of dorms I have lived in that had a history of residents who made poor life decisions. It was a smell that I did not want to contemplate deeply. Also, a feature of the lobby was a circle of barber chairs surrounding a absurdly large fireplace. Some people find it "quirky." My take was more "ritualistic torture." After we arrived at the room, we quickly decided to get up early and leave as quickly as possible. My wife begged me to secure every available lock on the door immediately. After a quick once over of the bed for bedbugs and stains, we determined it was relatively safe to sleep in and prepared our things to quickly get ready in the morning and leave. The next morning, we were awakened by the sound of some "loud talkers," but that was less of a problem than the toilet which ran all night in terms of disturbing our sleep. My wife did not even want to put her head under water in the shower and I used bottled water to brush my teeth. The two-toned toilet, dated shower, and other things too horrible to bring back to memory sealed the deal that we will never return. To bookend this review...just... NOPE.

Yelp
BUGS - what was once a kitchy part of Americana is now dilapidated and bug infested. The hotel's website has not been updated, but then again nothing else there has either. First, we were given a room key to our room, only to find out it was already occupied! When getting into the correct room, we found the carpets spongy, the room dark with a few lights, peeling wallpaper, a bathroom door that closed only when forced and a heavily stained sink and shower. Everything needs massive updating. The Jacuzzi at the pool was missing much of the bottom tiles. The worst however was the infestation of bugs. The upholstered chair in the room caused me to itch, which prompted me to find two small bugs on my arm. My son was lying in his bed, so he made him get up and check - yep, BEDBUGS . This doesn't count the dead flies and spiders we found - multiple. We are so upset that my wife left wearing her nightgown and we're now across the street at a different hotel. Our son has numerous bug bites and everyone has showered. I'd rather sleep in my car than ever stay here again. Two stars only because the night clerk gave us a full refund.

Bri M.

Yelp
A very fun experience! We stayed in a space themed room. Even though it was a older construction, it felt clean and safe. The bed wasn't very comfy, I assume there aren't many round mattresses to replace it with, but for one night it really didn't matter. Continental breakfast was fine. I did wish the pool was open but it wasn't a terrible I convenience with an in-room tub. We also ordered delivery from a nearby bar that was decent! I would definitely come here again and check out the other rooms!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
We stayed there for our honeymoon/anniversary. They didn't have us booked in the room we had booked. The the room we ended up with was dirty not sure the last time it was dusted broken window (taped together) TV in whirlpool room didn't work curtains were falling a part we made it work but for what we paid for we were disappointed. And couldn't understand the person behind the desk. Nice but couldn't understand them. They had hot breakfast biscuits were like hockey pucks and the grave was Luke warm.

Carissa T.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for the last 20 years. This place is quaint, odd, and awesome. Every person we've brought here has continued coming because once you discover this strange little place, you absolutely want to return. The fact that they have fantasy suites might weird you out, but I promise, it's not a creepy place. Wood burning fireplace in the lobby surrounded by barber chairs, vintage oddities line the common areas, and it's a wonderful hidden gem. I can't do it justice with words, so you'll just have to experience it for yourself. Also, new ownership has made great improvements to modernie the place, wothout losing sight of the origins and vintage feel. They serve a full breakfast and the wifi signal is strong!

Haley R.

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my friends birthday and we stayed in the space room. Needs some updating but other than that it's pretty cool and I'll be back to try other rooms too.

Debbir H.

Yelp
My husband and his hunting buddies were there this weekend. Both of their rooms had BED BUGS. The management accused them for bringing the bugs in! I can't believe they did that. They will never go there again. No rating for them! Really I have to pick a star.

Bill S.

Yelp
Why this hotel has high reviews are beyond me ! Very aged . Rooms was musty smelling with heavy air freshener to attempt to cover the smell . Hotel has seen its better days , towel bar was coming off the wall , room was not very clean. When bring it up to the management they seem to not care. Internet was not working upon check in and breakfast was poor . Just say no to this one !

Shawn W.

Yelp
Would much rather stay here than some corporate cookie cutter hotel. Even though they are well known for their fantasy rooms I got just a regular ol motel room. The only rooms larger you can get elsewhere are suites. Mine had 2 library chairs, a bench at the end of the bedand a comfy rocker . With plenty of room to spare. It is showing its age a little but does not mean it's not clean. No complaints on cleanliness. Of course I love making waffles in the morning too. You can enjoy your time at DonQ the whimsy is interesting and somehow relaxing.

Rita V.

Yelp
Horrible experience and some shady, scratchy type of business, dishonest people! I booked my reservation for that hotel with Travelocity back in January 2022, now the hotel rep. called me to inform that my reservation is cancelled due to the hotel being overbooked?!!! What?!!! I scheduled a reservation with the hotel because if the upcoming wedding and now 5 month later they cancelled it?! What kind of business management is that? What kind of customer service is that?!!!! And what really disturbs me I'd the fact that they still have the rooms available, I just checked online, just the price is now doubled! When I called the hotel I was told that there is nothing they can do and they will not honor me a better room that is still available!! This is ridiculous! And I will post this review on every available social media so people are aware of this shady business!!!!

Kimberly R.

Yelp
They are unfriendly and inconsiderate! My mother in law was charged $1500 for a week. She had a death in the family, so she asked to move her dates to a later time in the year and DON Q people refused! Our family will never book with DON Q again.

Joshua D.

Yelp
Had a great time! This place is one of the places you've got to try before it changes! So vintage, so cool....... and when I say it's cool...... it's frickin cool!! A MUST come to see, everything here is something to see, I wish walls could tak! But not about our stay lol Anywho.... give it a try you won't regret it I promise!!!

Rachel H.

Yelp
Yes, the Don Q is dated and a bit worn, but I wasn't exactly expecting the Four Seasons when I demanded to sleep in a fiberglass igloo with a polar bear rug on it. The igloo room has it all. A whirlpool tub, a polar bear rug, three TVs including one you can use to watch Child's Play 3 while in the whirlpool tub, a glitter mural of polar bears fighting, and of course an igloo. An igloo with a round bed in it. The room was just part of the fun. I also entertained myself in the tunnel between the hotel and restaurant. There's lots of spooky stuff in there (probably more when we went because it was a week after Halloween). The pool was great as well, and I appreciate anyone who still has the outdoor portion of their pool open in November. I took advantage of it. My husband did not. What a baby. We hit the state park across the street and farted around in the airplane out front. I'd be back if I'm visiting House on the Rock. I will say the restaurant was just "ok" so I'd probably hit Arthur's Supper Club instead. That place is also weird.

Mark D.

Yelp
Stayed here while on a motorcycling trip through SW Wisconsin. We stayed in one of the original "themed suites", "Maggie's Place - A King Sized bed, pink and white decor with contrasting red heart shaped hydrotherapy tub." Room had a heart shaped tub. Kitschy romantic I guess. This hotel is definitely a grand old throwback and it somewhat shows. It is a unique one-off and definitely worth the stop if you're already coming through the area.

Anna F.

Yelp
This place was pretty awful. Booked to go to House on the Rock and thought one of the fantasy suites would be fun. Really not worth the tale I got to tell. The place had more glade plug ins then I've seen in one locale- including in the tiny entry way so you're greeted with the headache inducing chemical cocktail upon entering setting the tone. It became quickly apparent that this was to cover up the pungent order of mold and mildew. Stayed in the space theme room and it was dingy and paint peeling. The bed was caved in at the center. The worst was all the carpeting around the hot tub- hence the mold smell. The carpet on the stairs was slick and it was badly lit- leading to both my partner and I slipping down the stairs. I just had a bruise and a few scrapes from the fake moon rock. My partner dislocated a toe leading to a trip to orthopedic urgent care in Minneapolis to pop it back in to place (5 star review of that place forthcoming!) The breakfast wasn't worth the effort to walk upstairs for. My recommendation- just don't.

Danielle W.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Don Q for our 10 year anniversary. It was a last ditch effort at salvaging the weekend after a large snow storm canceled our out of state trip. We stayed in one of the moon lander rooms. The room was cool, if a little ill maintained. + The water ran cold and funny color for several minutes when we first turned it on. + The wall paper was starting to peel + The bedding was the wrong shape for the bed and was a non fitted sheet + The mattress itself had a larger disconcerting stain on it. + There was a bunch of loud, young, drunk people in the pool. (We are pretty young ourselves, but these were a group of colleged aged kids on army leave I think.) There was a large group of actual children in the game rooms... this was fine though. We honestly were okay with this however.... I sent my husband to the local Walmart to grab sheets and we made the best of it. I mentioned the issue in the morning. The lady at the front desk was courteous and offered a $40 discount. I was pleasantly surprised, but when I checked my credit card, instead of a $40 credit, there was the full charge for the room + a $40 additional charge. I called them, pretty upset and they were defensive. Ultimately my credit card company contacted them and pushed for a full refund. I'd be willing to give the place another shot and update my review, but after CHASE having to advocate for us the get the refund (which honestly they should have offered), I'm not sure we are welcome back. Overall, it's a weird place. It was cool, but didn't strike me as really very clean....The type of place hookers are killed and odd memories made... Somehow it matches the House on The Rock. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tim K.

Yelp
There was a mouse in our room. We checked out and went across the street. I stayed there several years ago. Not the same.

Chelsea K.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would. Drive 2 hours to have a nice night with my fiancé in one of their unique rooms. We chose the tranquility #2 room and upon first entering the room it seemed great. I went to wash the hot tub/ whirlpool bath cause that's just what I like to do to ensure it's clean enough. There was mice droppings sitting on the towels right next to the tub, a few more turds found around the room and the room hadn't been vacuumed from the crumbs on the floor. We went to another room. We went to the hot air balloon room. Was hopeful it would be better but there was even more mouse droppings in here. On the bed, in a drawer, on the ledge next to the bed.. also dead lady bugs on the bed as well.. very disappointed. Manager was unaware there was a mouse problem.. we got a full refund and found a better place to stay. They need to shut down and get an exterminator and better staff that will clean also the place could use some TLC fix cracks and fix areas that are warn. This is a unique hotel and if there wasn't droppings, bugs and was fixed up a little I would love to stay.

Stephen B.

Yelp
it is now a dump. was a fun place years ago. restraunt burned down 2017 taking the tunnel with it. the place is dirty . so sad tht the owners are just letting this place go

Samantha J.

Yelp
It's been 22 years and the marriage honeymoon I celebrated here is now over but...as a very very young bride it was exactly perfect for me at the time and I want to give thanks and appreciation even if it a couple decades late, I still appreciate.

Jeff H.

Yelp
The themed rooms are interesting; dated and kitschy but that's what you should expect from such a place. It is clean and fairly well maintained despite being a bit aged. The airplane outside is a hoot to climb around in & around. The breakfast bar is great! The service was pretty good. Our biggest disappointment was that an adjacent guest room was smoking dope every 20-30 minutes so our room wreaked every time they were imbibing. That alone was enough for me to not stay again. It is however very conveniently located if you are going to The House On The Rock.

Susan L.

Yelp
So we didn't stay here, but stopped to check out the giant warbird aircraft parked out front. It was a fun plane to walk and read about. Thank you for having it open to the public at no charge.

Mothra G.

Yelp
Its old, run down and smells. There is a horror movie vibe as you amble down to the depth of your fantasuite. no working chain on room door. I was sure we were going to die. But there was free continental breakfast and a wickedly huge and cool fireplace surrounded by barber chairs in lobby. The room was designed like a forest with real tree trunks snd the biggest room hot tub ever. We had the time of our week and would visit again.

Robert H.

Yelp
Updating my last review, no one has contacted me yet and they still charged us. Really stay away!!!!!!!

Mark S.

Yelp
Don Q Inn is a Dodgeville institution! It predates the impact of all the fancy growth and sprawl from Madison. Where do I even begin? Well the first thing you'll see is an old Boeing airplane parked on the front lawn. Check it out- Farah Fawcett autographed the side of the plane! Inside the Inn, they have normal rooms- but you have to stay in one of the Fantasuites! Each room was decorated in a different theme back in the late 70s- outer space room, church steeple, Indian Tee-pee, CAVE, etc. I stayed in the Shotgun room- complete with guns nailed to the wall, and strangely, mirrors on the ceiling above the bed? Oh yeah, each room has a hot tub right in the room too, and the best part? The hot tub is constructed in true Wi style- made from an old copper cheese vat! The lobby is loaded with old antique barber chairs, and there's a cool underground cave-like walkway to the restaurant. The food's pretty so-so, I'd skip it, but find an excuse to walk in the cave!

Brian C.

Yelp
My spouse and were in Dodgeville for the state park and arrived in town after lights out so we needed a place to stay. I had done a quick google search of lodging before we had left and based on positive reviews and good rates saved the Don Q info. When we arrived we were able to take advantage of special Sunday through Thursday rates for a standard room. I can only say that we were overwhelmed by the decor and we loved it! The best adjectives that I can come up with would be that Don Q is thick with atmosphere. The fact that they had barber chairs around the HUGE central fireplace makes a statement. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, the decor 100% unique. The continental breakfast was simple, but we were going into to town for breakfast anyway. With all the theme rooms and the positive lodging experience, if we are ever back in this area, we are definately shooting for one of the theme rooms.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep in a lunar excursion module. Mission accomplished. There isn't a whole lot to do in the area but this place was as good as any other to stop for a night on a cross-country road trip. The place is a bit rough around the edges but that is not why you're staying there. The staff were helpful and very nice. We got in too late to take the tour of all the fantasuites (I believe they happen daily at 3) but we did learn about the Don Q's flimsy yet interesting connection to Farrah Fawcett. A bit pricey, but a small price to pay to be able to tell your grandkids that you slept in a friggin' spaceship.

Molly D.

Yelp
Heard about the Don Q's fantasy suite and didn't really know what to expect but WOW it's probably the cleanest hotel room I've ever been in. We stayed in the Cave room and it was wonderful and fun. Staff is great! The front desk called our room because they saw I left the interior car light was left on!

Joann K.

Yelp
This place seems to be under new ownership since our last stay. It is quickly falling in disrepair. I filled our hot tub and after getting in it noticed a slimy film in the water. Went to store and bought large bottle of hydrogen peroxide. Needless to say it fizzled cause of all the filth and bacteria. Not acceptable especially during Covid. So I can only imagine how well everything else was cleaned. The next morning a different couple went to the front desk to ask for a new room since the toilet didn't flush and the shower over flowed. We experienced all toilets not working as they should. So to us this sounded reasonable. The employee asked "are you staying another night?" The guest looked at her side eyed and said "well no, but we do need to shower before we leave." This question should never have been asked by the employee. If somebody who cares about this property buys it in the future maybe I will recommend it. But as of now I just can't and that makes me sad cause it has so much potential.

Yelp
We stayed in the casino room and the room itself was neat, but the jetted tub was cracked and extremely dirty. The jets were so black it looked like grease was smeared in them, but it was just that dirty. I refused to use it. I feel bad for anybody that come to this hotel thinking they will make use of the jetted tub because they will be extremely dissapointed. If they replaced the tub the room would have been awesome!!!! The positive I will give them is everyone was extremely friendly and it made for a great over night get away for me and my husband!!!!

Yelp
Yup, we stayed in the Tranquility Suite (i.e. the moon room). Oh man, it's every nerd's dream, right? If you're looking for a luxury hotel room, this isn't it. Everything is outdated, erm, I mean vintage. But, it is fun. You will laugh. You will get scared (man that tunnel between the hotel and restaurant was so creepy - I wasn't expecting that). And it will give you an interesting story to tell. Breakfast was basic. We didn't use the pool, so we can't comment on that. Wi-fi was spotty (but we were in the room farthest away from the lobby, so...). Things were as clean as they could be for how old they were. AND WE SLEPT ON THE MOON. I enjoy the wacky. If you do too, stay a night in one of their themed rooms and revel in the weird.

Yelp
When we walked in the lobby of the Don Q Inn, we immediately noticed a strong mold and/or mildew smell. The smell got worse when we got into our room. My wife, who has allergies, had a reaction within about 10 minutes. We complained and were shown a different room on an upper floor -- the smell was slightly less strong, but we saw streaks of black mold in the shower walls. We could not stay in the hotel. When we asked for our money back, we were told we had to get a refund through Hotels.com where we booked the room, when we called Hotels.com, they called the hotel and told us the Hotel would not give us a refund. Beyond the obnoxious smell, if you have allergies, asthma, or any other respiratory issues you may be endangering your health by staying here. This is not speculation -- this is the professional opinion of my wife is a nurse-practitioner.

Yelp
Hands down THE COOLEST we have ever stayed in. We stayed in the tranquility base 2. Clean. Spa was nice. Pool area was nice. The ambiance of the hotel was awesome. And the room was amazing! 10/10

Yelp
Horrifying. Simply disgusting. Everything in these rooms is either carpeted or upholstered. And with crappy ventilation and years of hot tubs and cigarettes, I'm sure we were breathing mold all night. Our group had the Tranquillity Base and Up Up and Away.....shudder. If we hadn't been forced to prepay (nearly $200 for each room!!) we would definitely have left. Mural panels peeling off walls. No soap in bathroom. Duct tape used on "fantasuite" elements with what appeared to be hair stuck in it. Visible dirt and wear and tear on furniture. Stains on bed padding. And the dank, humid smell of it all. So gross, I never took my shoes off. I can't believe the Board of Health allows this to operate. Would be fun and kitchy if it had been cleaned and had any updates at all. But the velvet, velour and mushy carpet were enough. Not to mention the astronaut body hanging on the wall....with a view into the "lunar lander" bed.... Amazed we didn't get fungus, lice or other creepies. Ick ick ick.

Yelp
We loved it! I'll admit it seemed a little odd to me at first, but over the course of our 4 night stay it grew on me quite a bit. We were there with our kid and stayed in a regular room, but would like to go back sometime to check out a theme room.

Yelp
I think mine might be the only review of a room that's NOT one of the "fantasy suites." This place is super kitschy and would be completely awesome if they actually kept it updated concerning modern repairs, accessories, etc. I mean, it's one thing to have a lobby filled with retro/antique barber and dentist chairs (all around an amazingly large fireplace, it was really cool,) and old barn construction with iron farm/household implements cemented into sections of walls (like cast irons and ice block grabbers.). But, it's completely another thing to still be using bed comforters from the 70s that are faded and sad looking, keep horribly thin carpet on the floor (also, has to be from the 70s,) and make repairs with whatever could be found out back or in a local junkyard/flea market (such as our bathroom's toilet paper holder which was held onto the wall at the top by a strip of molding nailed into it.) My husband and I are all about staying at unique locations that are off the beaten path, but this place was unfortunately just shabby and cheap. The sink in our bathroom took 1 minute to fill with water from the faucet while brushing teeth and 10 minutes to drain. Nothing felt clean, probably because everything was just so old. The lighting was dim and the fixtures were yellowed, again, stuff like that should be updated, don't keep it just because it's from the era! Get something new that retains the same style! I cannot even imagine staying in a fantasy suite where people go specifically to "get busy." I would NOT take a black light into any of those rooms! After all of this, I do have to say that the bed was probably one of the softer, bouncier, and more comfortable I've ever slept in, oddly enough. I tried to focus on that and convince myself that I was not sleeping on 40 years of God-knows-what. If you are in the area, touring the lobby and going through the creepy and simply odd-as-hell underground tunnel between the hotel and the restaurant next door would be worth your while if you like oddball stuff. But, do yourself a favor and find yourself a modern hotel.

Yelp
I've never stayed at "the Q," but I did receive a tour once and it was a hoot. The moon room, the medieval room. Funny that I was able to receive a tour of all of these fine rooms, these fine, empty, unrented rooms. One time I did eat at the Don Q and I must say it was not very good. Since it is a "Dodgeville Institution" I really wanted to like it, I really did. But I didn't. Sorry, Don Q.

Yelp
The fantasuites are the reason my boyfriend and I have been there twice. We've stayed in the Cave room, Northern Lights and Tranquility Base. They're all so ridiculous but so awesome. Definitely dated, but that's part of the charm. Seemed clean enough for what it was. Awesome tubs. The only down side is the ill fitting sheets due to the round beds. If that freaks you out, I'd suggest bringing a few other sheets with you. Oh, and the lacking bathroom door in the Cave Room - awkward if you're newly dating like we were on our first visit.

Yelp
My fiance and I just stayed here for two nights. We spent the first night in the cave room and the second in the space tranquility room. We had an AWESOME time. We were warmly greeted and briefed about what the hotel had to offer. Upon entering our room we were super impressed. Dated, but very clean and very nice looking. Who wouldn't wanna sleep in a cave?! The hot tub is huge! Fiance is 6'3 and was able to stretch out and still had room for me. Bed was big and comfortable. TV is from the 90s, but that's not a reason to come or not come. Its really something to be seen in person as the photographs online do it absolutely no justice. The underground tunnel was creepy and cool. The walls were covered in autographs from other eccentric travelers, families, couples, etc. The tunnel led to a restaurant right next door that was reasonably priced and really cute. The space room was really cool also. It was a two story room so it felt massive. This hotub could easily fit five+ moderately sized people. The bed had a mirror above it that lit up with an old cassette radio attached. So cool. Breakfast was standard, bagels, waffles, fruit, oatmeal, juice, coffee. The staff were all very pleasant and happy to answer our questions and help us. Upstairs they had a pool table, some other game table, ping pong, and Foosball. Downstairs they have a bunch of old barber and dentist chairs surrounding a big 360 degree fireplace/pit along with giant checkers, computer, popcorn machine, indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub, tv sitting area. We really enjoyed ourselves, you just dont see themed rooms like these. 5 stars for spectacular service, clean rooms, vibe of the town, and not getting in trouble for being oiud on our anniversary Lol.

Yelp
Online it seemed fun and quirky. When we arrived it was just that- minus the fun. The front lobby appeared to be to be pretty cool: a huge fire pit, barber shop chairs, and a piano. However, when you look online you cannot smell a picture. The dust immediately filled your lungs. If you have asthma, that's a big red flag. We walked up the stairs to discover the games aka an un-level pool table, bumper pool, ping pong, and a foosball that did not work. When we reach the upper floor it feels as though you may just fall through it. There are lots of boards coming up and creeks everywhere. So at this point we are thinking, "ok could be worse...." But it got worse. The room keys are not done electronically which is no big deal, but when we opened our room, we were smacked in the face with an appalling, putrid smell. It as though there was an electrical fire and burnt plastic. It was a very spacious room, but the beds were hanging of the frame, they were uncomfortable, and the pillows were even worse. However, the bathroom was clean and we did not find anything disgusting in the shower. The highlight of this stay was the pool. It was very clean and one of the better pools I have seen in a generic hotel. Finally, the basement..... where do I even begin? I decided to take a look to see what was down there: fantasy suites. But not just that. There was a a cloud of dust all throughout the hallway even worse than the in the lobby. There is also a strange bunker, yes I said bunker, that is not closed off and looks dangerous. In the end, their WiFi was fast and the bathrooms were clean, but I would never stay here again.

Yelp
Any time I am remotely close to the area I will stay at the Don Q! It is a very cared for place. It has age and character but in a well maintained and loved way. Staff is extremely kind, rooms are clean, great rec/table top games in the upstairs loft, great lobby to just hang out in. Love the pool and its outdoor/indoor design. I've stayed here 4 times and have never been disappointed. In my most recent trip we stayed in two chain hotels before and after and were disappointed with both, making the Don Q the definite crown jewel of our vacation. Perfect place to crash before and after your House on the Rock visit, within 20 minutes of Taliesin, Govenor Dodge Park, House on the Rock, the Wisconsin River and the Land's End factory store. Without a doubt a perfect piece of road trip culture that should be experienced. Can't find it? Just look for the huge plane out front.

Yelp
Stayed here 1 night. Its interesting lots of odd stuff here not sure if they're playing off the House on the Rock oddness but its odd and sadly very dated. We stayed in a regular room, we had an issue with the room above us having an overflowing toilet or sink that was dripping down into our bathroom. Staff was good about it but the problem re-occurred and just made things a bit difficult for us. The airplane outside was pretty cool, even though it could use a good cleaning up, it almost has an urban decay vibe to it because its been exposed to the elements for so long. If you dont mind old and quirky this is an ok place to stay. If you needed to stay in town for a longer period than 2 nights you might want to stay somewhere with more modern accommodations.

Yelp
Out of this world!!! Where to begin with the DonQ? The magic started the second we walked in the door and were magically transported to the 1980's. Walking into our room was the happiest moment we've had since the divorce. No stains, no offensive odor, nooo problems. Our space ship bed "lifted us off" into another stratosphere and we were lulled to to sleep after an exciting ;) night with the built in Am/FM radio. New Easter Sunday tradition!!! Hallelujah indeed :)

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a night in the Cave Room on a recent trip to Wisconsin. First of all Ashely at the front desk went above and beyond to help us. The hotel is very unique and there is so much to see and explore that we were extremely amused. The Cave was awesome. The hot tub is huge and has a cool waterfall. We smiled and giggled from check in to check out! We will definitely be back.
