First time to visit. Recommended by friend. Great value for food. That was the only thing like about this place. Flavour was a bit strong and salty for my liking. They wanted to charge ridiculous price for extra vegetable in dish. No tap water served so bring your own unless you want to buy. Tables was not clean at all. Wondered they even care. Customer service was a bit horrible as well. I guess they really don't care because they just want high turnover and lots of money. It was very disappointing☹️

The food may not be perfect, but for the price it's hard to beat. The serving is a lot and would definitely get you full. The menu is limited but it's an advantage as they will get to serve you quickly. Plenty of tables and people are fast to eat as well.

Nice price, good presentation, quick service. But the udon and curry beef rice are too salty for my kids and myself and they ask for water after a fre bites. Will give them a 5 star if this can be improved.

Came here twice during my visit to Melbourne and was absolutely blown away. The best Japanese curry I’ve ever had, the sauce was amazingly good and the chicken / pork were very crispy. Serving size was generous and all for around $10. I can see why this place is so popular with people of all ages (but particularly uni students). 10/10 would recommend

Cheap, tasty Japanese foods tucked outside of Melbourne Central. I only wished that the dish included more vegetables. Additionally, the staff only comes out to clean the tables every now and then. Overall, great food and portions for the price if you're looking for a quick eats!

I have been visiting Don Don regularly for the last couple of months. Every day, after the gym, I walk up to this restaurant and get my Donburi. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in town. Since I regularly have my lunch from here I got acquainted with the staff. If there is a long queue I will just whisper "Chicken" or "Beef" from the doorstep and my take away box will be ready by the time I pay the bill. The reasons why I gave this place 5-star rating are; 1. The food here is delicious. I have tried some other rice bowl meals in the China town and was not up to the mark 2. For a student like me, it is very affordable 3. High value for money - the quantity is good that it can easily fill up your tummy 4. The staff are friendly and courteous 5. The restaurant is well maintained even though it may get very crowded at times I have once tried the Niku Udon Beef soup, the guy gave me curry and masala in a container separately. Personally, I didn't like the seaweed that they put in and I am no expert in this cuisine. I see that many people love it and therefore, can't complain. The only problem I found this place is they only accept cash payments. This was a huge inconvenience for me. I talked with the manager and he said they will roll out the EFTPOS payment soon. The food is delicious and I must say, I get my protein portion for the day from here. Keep up the good work guys. Cheers.

It is a great experience eating at DonDon. Considering the inexpensive price range, the food quality DonDon is providing is superb. The salmon is fresh and the quantity is huge. The curry chicken, beef udon and chicken udon are all fantastic. The only minor complaint is that there is no water served. There is no table service which is not expected, but the food quality and the cheap price earn them all the well deserved 5-stars.

My second time has not disappointed. Established in 1997, you’d be forgiven for thinking this place was a new popup some days with the steady stream of patrons. The food is fresh and flavoursome, and with meals under $10 it’s an absolute bargain and perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring Melbourne’s laneways.
