The service was friendly. The Dongyuan chicken was tender and delicious, the char siu was a bit dry, and the roast pork was tender but not tough. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious, making it a great dish to eat with rice

Very noisy. Staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. They messed up orders, were rude and loud. Food was alright, and a little overpriced. One single plate of chicken rice cost ~100k while the rice is neithee soft, fragrant nor shiny as expected for chicken rice

- Spacious space, quick service, supportive staff. - Good portion, tender chicken meat. - They have self-service counter which include: sauces e.g. pork rib sauce, ginger sauce, soya, garlic, etc. - Must try: cơm gà luộc (boiled chicken rice), canh cải xoong táo mật tiềm bắp heo (watercress, honey jujube & pork shank) How to eat like local: soya sauce or orange ginger sauce. But for me i prefer soya sauce within a bit garlic and vinegar.

I got here by friend’s recommendation for famous chicken rice and soups. We order a chicken rice / char xiu set and 1 lotus soup, and stew pork (thịt kho trứng), stir fried veg. The steam rice: not soft enough. The sauce is mixed with jelly powder is very minus. Char xiu is dry. Seems it is out for long time. The soup is seems not cook enough time. The stir fried veg is missing oyster sauce and it is not well cooked. The stew Pork is a bit too sweet and also not cook well. The rice is not the good rice. So total experience was bad!

Definitely recommend it if you like chicken rice . Rice smell pretty good and tasty . You have to order mapro tofu . That goes with the rice so well . Soup is delicious . Fried Spinach is tasty . We order a combo for two people the portion is huge for two girls but we get to eat cha xíu and steam chicken . Its awesome.to have lunch here with friends

Very good chicken and food in general. Service was fast paced and enjoyed the food overall.

Food was very average, I felt it is being hyped online. Compared to the Singapore chicken rice, it is quite second rated. The rice is not fragrant, the char siew pork is a tad too sweet, the fried chicken is a little too sweet, the soup doesn’t have much flavour either. A little disappointed with this meal and it’s expensive for two person.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Cholon, Đông Nguyên is a renowned Chinese-style restaurant that has built its reputation on the iconic Hainanese chicken rice. Yet, what makes this place special is not only that signature dish but also the wide range of delicacies, each thoughtfully prepared to retain its authentic traditional flavors. Dining here, I could truly sense the owner’s passion and dedication poured into every plate, turning a simple meal into a heartfelt experience. The atmosphere blends the vibrancy of Cholon with a touch of nostalgia, making it a perfect spot for both locals and visitors seeking genuine culinary heritage. The staff deserve a special mention as well—warm, enthusiastic, and carefully trained, they are always attentive and quick to respond to guests’ needs, ensuring a dining experience that feels both welcoming and refined.
