"Donna's Dress Shop is a charming little boutique off 39th, offering a blend of vintage & new clothing, accessories, and shoes. The interior is both airy & cozy, with twinkling strands of lights & dried bouquets dangling from the ceiling. Even the dressing rooms are decked out with chandeliers, sofas & vintage wallpaper. Donna's collection of dresses are great for both cocktail parties & wedding parties alike. Of all it's unique details, my favorite is the pair of chirpy parakeets that greet you as you enter." - Cat Coquillette

A friend recommended this shop when I needed a dress QUICK! I stopped in the store 30 minutes before closing & was greeted by the sweetest young woman (wish I could remember her name!!!) I gave her the event dress code & she had my dressing room full of beautiful goodies in less than 5 minutes. I walked out after 20 minutes absolutely obsessed with my new dress, vintage clutch, & Donna’s! I can’t wait to visit again.

They have my size and such an amazing selection!

Google
I found the perfect dress, shoes and jewelry ALL in Donna's dress shop. I was having a 60's style wedding and, after running myself and my sister and Mom all over town, walking into Donna's and finding everything I needed was a dream. I only wished I had gone there first!! The staff was super helpful and attentive-I told them the style I was looking for and they put together a great variety of items for me to try on. This is such a fun and friendly place!

I absolutely love this vintage shop. The owner is incredibly nice. I commented that I was in love with an item that she posted on Instagram. She then notified me once they got it in. I of course immediately went in and got it. I highly recommend this shop for every day wear to special occasions.

Google
One of my top 5 favorite small businesses in the metro. Donna is an expert in vintage fashion and always happy to share her knowledge. She has a great buyer’s eye. It is a rare day I walk out of her shop without a unique purchase.

Waltzed into this gem of a shop one Saturday & got to meet the amazing Donna. Beautifully curated pieces with a selection of funky apparel, accessories & jewelry. I love the way this shop makes me feel. Nostalgic, bright & fun.

Donna's Dress Shop is a gem in the Westport neighborhood of KC that I discovered when we vacationed in the area. I'm not highly knowledgeable about vintage, but this business owner has it down from my perspective. It is possible to shop vintage with a degree of familiarity here, even for a novice. All the merchandise is beautifully curated, cared for, and displayed, and the detailed tags are very helpful in determining the age or provenance of an item. The store is welcoming and a beautiful sight to behold. And there are new pieces mixed in as well, just to keep things interesting. I would highly recommend this shop to visitors and locals alike, and hope to stop in again soon when we are in the. area.

Google
We wanted to find a dress here SO bad! We were in town for vacation and waited anxiously for it to open. They helped my daughter look for a special event dress and when we couldn’t find one that fit, they sent us to retro vixen down the block. The customer service here was outstanding. The selection amazing - we just couldn’t find the one. I appreciated the referral and their kindness.

Yelp
As a plus woman it is difficult to find boutiques/shops that have clothing in my size that are fashion forward and non-frumpy looking. Donnas had a great variety of vintage clothes with inclusive sizing. Loved the dugurees, the accessories, and the shoes! I was also told you can sell vintage fashion here!

Yelp
What a gem!! This place had some amazing vintage as well as reproduction pieces. The staff was so helpful and made me feel special from the moment I stepped into the store. Best customer service and great inventory. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Since I've moved to this area, I've admired literally EVERYTHING that I saw in your window. I unfortunately can't swing financially, any of your beautiful clothes for the moment. But as soon as I can afford it, I'm coming to support you! I can't wait till then!

Yelp
I'm throwing a vintage summer bash just so I can justify purchasing another one of their dresses. Donna's has the legit vintage and than the newly made vintage inspired styles to boot. Scarves, glasses, jewelry, shoes Donna has it all. A cute red and white polka dot, sweet heart neckline vintage cut dress could set you back $90. I know, I know it's a lot, but hear me out these are handmade and quality. I still have one from when they first opened and worn it to all kinds of events. These dresses are one of a kind, I also got a red winter vintage coat here for $60 and it is stunning. The window displays are works of art, so much thought and time goes into them. They change often and I usually want to own everything I see. Donna and staff are really sweet and you can tell they really love what they do. Atmosphere is fun lots to look and fall in love with. Lots of the stuff is locally made, got my sister a gift card and she said I finally got her something she could use. Need lindy hop/swing shoes or attire, got it.

Yelp
Warning: this store cares way more about profits than customers. This is the most overpriced vintage clothing store I've ever been too. The staff come off cold and fake, and tried to convince me to buy items that were clearly too small for me. All of this coupled with their no return policy gave me bad vibes. I won't be going back. There are other vintage stores in KC, with fairer prices and nicer owners, that are way more deserving of business.

Yelp
I was walking around 39th Street the other day with every intention of *just browsing* in Donna's Dress Shop and coming back this weekend to take advantage of that killer 20 percent off sale going on. I noticed a lot more vintage going on in there, which of course, I do adore beaucoup! Sure enough, I found her almost immediately, only she was a real vintage model, a 1950s plaid shirtwaist, and therefore there was only one of her. I knew if I tried her on, and she worked for me, there was no way I'd be putting her back on the rack and chance someone else snatching her up. SIGH!!! And I knew she was going to fit perfectly because 1950s dresses are all but tailor made for my physique. I hesitated. She was in perfect condition...and only 38 smackers. A great deal for a pristine vintage lady. Oh, who was I kidding? I grabbed her, tried her on and yes, she fit like a glove. There was no way I could say no to her. She needed a belt though, and the lovely glamorous chica who worked there happily assisted in finding me just the right belt. I'll probably be going back this weekend to see some of her friends that I was admiring, too, by the way.

Yelp
Cotton and frilly satin. Tulle and gauze, silk and sequins! No longer will my mouth utter, "I can't find any cute dresses in Kansas City." Besides that, I work from home in sweats and a t-shirt. Lilian O decided we'd go to Donna's Dress Shop after the Yelp Event. I walked into a spring time all in and of itself. My fingers went over each little pretty, and I had to stifle myself, cause I'm paid the next Friday...(so then I don't have to abstain). I'm counting the days to touch more of the springy dresses. I tried on one grey checked dress, that was so cute, but there's others that were also cute. (Saying that, incase it's not there next time) The grey dress fit me very well, infact, it was my ideal dress. I don't usually wear dresses, cause I can't find cute dresses, that fit and look good. I can't stand panty hose, but I was told I didn't need to wear them (cause I won't ever) so I have always had issues with dresses, but not any more. The grey checked dress had a full back, full front, a zipper, and the cutest tulip shaped skirt I've ever seen. That wasn't the only dress I saw I liked, there was a yellow one, and an orange one and a pink one and a red one, a green one... and several vintage dresses. The vintages dresses have the story behind where they obtained the garment on a tag. For the price, the dresses aren't overly priced. (I'm used to Macy's, which doesn't have much of anything. The prices are comparable. ) Donna's Dress Shop makes me glad I'm female! Thank goodness this store isn't any closer to me.

Yelp
I love this store. I love the jewelry. I love the shoes. I love the friendly staff. I love the clothes both vintage and retro. I even quite like the prices. I have not yet found the right item in my size, but I won't give up. Donna's carries some plus sized, so hooray. I'd love to see more larger sizes though. Until then, I'll keep visiting and searching. The hunt is half the fun!

Yelp
I love Donna's, it's such a happy experience just being there. The staff is friendly and seem to genuinely love their job. All the shoppers seem to enjoy their time there, no angry customer. Definitely good vibes! Must remember to get a number as soon as you walk in since the dressing room line can get crazy long. If they notice you don't have a number, the staff happily offers one to you. They offer great variety of vintage and some new clothing items and accessories. It's such a chic boutique, and for an vintage shop I'm surprised by how often they rotate their collection based on themes or seasons. Their prizes are reasonable and quality of the garments are great, you can see these girls care for those clothes. I've gone to vintage shops where they have the same items and never rotate their stock. I want to keep coming back to Donnas to find new items and surprises.

Yelp
Donna's Dress Shop saves the day! While visiting from Minneapolis I decided to have my sister take me around town to as many vintage/thrift stores we could find. I was looking for the perfect outfit for an upcoming wedding. I was striking out! Until Donna's that is. This place is great. It's new and vintage clothing at reasonable prices. The best part is that it looks like a boutique inside, not some creepy, basement thrift store that smells. And I managed to find a beautiful, high-waisted skirt that is to DIE for! Wish I lived closer to Donna' Dress Shop.

Yelp
Donna's Dress Shop is a adorable, little dress heaven with glitter and ruffles and ribbons everywhere. The shop is filled with precious dresses at decent prices. The employees were friendly and very prompt with finding you a fitting room, They even had a bird cage with cute, chriping birds. Though I didn't find anything that fit me, I loved having a girl's day out at Donna's Dress Shop.

Yelp
This store was super adorable!! I saw a huge number of things I would totally wear. Of course, I'll probably never be back to visit, yet I will always have memories of the adorable comic dress I saw hanging on their racks.

Yelp
Garbage. Went to buy a $500 necklace for my friend that broke in a week & owner would not allow a return ? Why ?? Dont think i will ever recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
I have a confession to make: I get really skeeved out by thrift stores. Don't stone me! I just can't shake the feeling that maybe someone, somehow, someway DIED IN THOSE CLOTHES! Practical? No. Still in the back of my mind? Yes. Like I said, don't judge, jerks. Also, I feel like kind of a weirdo in vintage. My style is usually ripped straight out of a Gap catalog: crisp and streamlined. Vintage? I'd totally be called out on my fakery. However, I'd driven past Donna's Dress Shop so many times and always thought it looked adorable. Who cares if Betty Draper died in that dress, as long as I can look like a swingin' Mad Woman? So last Saturday I had the whole day off of work (GLORIOUS) and made the trip down to 39th Street. I was greeted by a cats-eyed glasses-wearing, beehive-rockin' gal straight out of another era (Donna herself, perhaps?) and moved on to peruse the entire store. There's actually a mix of mint condition vintage pieces and new-to-wear clothes as well. I tried on a shirt of the "new" category and a long sleeved navy dress with white polka dots and pearls on the cuffs that was STRAIGHT outta the 60's. Both were adorbs, but didn't quite fit me in the most flattering way. Hey, I get an E for Effort, right? There is a beautiful collection of scarves and I feel like there were some real treasures to be found all throughout the store. I COULD NOT leave without buying some tiny silver airplane earrings...complete with spinning propellers! Their jewelry section is really gorgeous and kitschy; there's something for everyone! Donna's, I think you may be the lady who breaks my streak of avoiding vintage. **Extra bonus, big parking lot right next to the building. No crazy 39th St. parking!

Yelp
I've lived in Kansas City for years. And I remember back in the good ole days of Westport the "cool stores" were abundant. But over the years shops and boutiques moved out of Westport and its become more of a drinking hole then the shopping mecca it once was. 39th street has really taken off as the new area were these smaller boutiques can thrive and has been the home of Donna's since their start in 2007. The first time I walked into Donna's I instantly fell in love! I remember meeting Donna about a week after she opened and walking into this little place that felt like home. A mix of colorful vintage, amazing jewelry, quirky home-wares and a mix of modern clothing that had a retro feel. Anytime I've had a big event or needed some new vintage for my photo studio I pop in and visit Donna and see what she has in. Donna herself looks like she stepped right out of the 1960's. She's always in her signature cat eye glasses, hair in an amazing up do, sporting the most lovely vintage fashions. And she's just a peach, you wont find a nicer gal this side of the Missouri river. She doesn't just love vintage, she lives it. I believe this is one of the main reasons her business has been so successful. Donna now owns her own building on 39th and has made it into a little haven for fashionistas, hipsters and vintage collectors alike. I can go in there and find something I just have to have on every single visit. Oh and check Donna's Dress Shop out on Facebook. She always posts new goodies she has in and sale's! I love Donna's!

Yelp
Donna's Dress Shop oh how I heart you. I'm not normally an impulse buyer but I walked out with 3 things after my first visit to this adorable boutique! Got a black elastic belt with a gold and black leaf clasp in the front, a vintage-inspired yellow sweater, and found an awesome dress on the sale rack that fit me perfectly! The top was a black scoop neck tank and the bottom had pleated tulle layers that gradually changed from light gray to black. I got so many compliments on it from my friends! Like others have said, everything is priced really well so you won't break the bank shopping here. The layout of the store is fairly straightforward: new items are in the front of the store, the vintage and sale items toward the back, and accessories placed to the side and the middle. The fitting rooms were also on the side with curtains instead of doors. Donna herself was working there and she was so sweet. Looked like she stepped right out of the 1950s. She was wearing the cutest A-line green dress, matching big green and white flower earrings, and cat-eyed glasses. Keep doing what you do girl!

Yelp
Having a bit too much time on my hands and surviving the harrowing downtown traffic, I headed to 39th to search for something cool. Donna's was open and after dodging a bus, I was happy to duck in. The lady running the shop that day was in full costume, being super fabulous. At first I just stuck to the jewelry cases. There were some really neat vintage and vintage inspired pieces. I was surprised to find a few dresses in my size and hell yes I tried them on! The service was excellent and she even brought a few more for me to try. I will definitely stop at Donna's for a dressy event. I love their style and the fun accessories. A great place to take someone from out of town.

Yelp
Seriously one of the best locally owned boutiques in the city. Donna and her gals just know what looks fantastic, and what's going to be the next mini-trend. I don't think there's anywhere else in the city you can buy the vintage repro lines Stop Starring and Bettie Page. If you're into vintage cuts but have trouble finding things that fit right, check out these dresses. Her other new clothing lines toe the line between trendy and classic. It's a good mix and all very affordable! Donna carries actual vintage too, but she has a well edited selection that isn't ugly or weird. It's stuff that's actually cool and wearable, not a potential Halloween costume. She also has a great selection of accessories, new and vintage, and the jewelry -- OH, THE JEWELRY!! Simply divine, and the prices are fantastic! It's the stuff you've seen in pictures of your grandma when she was all dressed up. Clip on earrings, amazing rhinestone necklaces...it's a sparkle-lovers' paradise. I love Donna's and I am in there any time I want something pretty and special. The store itself is spacious and easy to shop. There really isn't one thing bad I could say. If you tend to like vintage styles, or just like unique fashion, get your saddle oxfords to Donna's Dress Shop -- IT'S THE BEE'S KNEES!

Yelp
Donna's Dress Shop is a sweet little boutique in the 39th Street West District. The selection of dresses is fantastic and fulfills the needs of a multitude of styles but what they really shine the most in is the genuine vintage and modern retro classic styles that would make any 1950's housewife proud. I go here weekly to check out the new arrivals and store displays, which are carefully updated at least every other week. I have a hard time leaving without spending about $125 per trip, happily so. That may sound high but you get QUALITY items and the dresses really are standard pricing even compared to online shopping (trust me, I checked for each dress). While I love places like Modcloth and PinupGirlClothing, Donna's is a local shop that offers the same prices with a friendly service you don't get from online shopping. Recently I went in to and found a beautiful 1950's style vintage fall halter top dress. Being that it was actually a vintage piece, there was a small tear in one spot. Donna gave me the name of a seamstress/tailor that she knew would be able to fix it and offered a discount that actually covered the price I paid for the repair. She really took the time to talk to me about my concern with they dress and make sure I would be happy. Pros: sale section, vintage section, local goods, lots of great jewelry, fantastic selection, quality, constant new stock and store displays, caring staff with low pressure but lots of encouragement. Cons: quality items cost a lot, no returns or exchanges, can be a line for the fitting rooms. I would recommend this place to a girl looking for a regular place to develop a quality wardrobe that will last and a style that is fun and Classic.

Yelp
DONNA!!! What would I have to do to move you to St. Louis? Move you here myself? Done. Quit my job and work there full time? Absolutely. From the cute sales women, to the selection, to the music, Donna's Dress Shop is by far the greatest dress boutique I have ever shopped. I visited Kansas City last month and my cousin lives very close by. She mentioned that she could not let me leave without going to Donna's. It was instantly love. It wasn't just the great selection of vintage and vintage-inspired pieces, it was the selection of sizes and price points. I am a size 12-14, so dress boutiques usually limit me to the three dresses in the store that I can zip up. Not a Donna's. For every S and XS there was a L and XL. Wonderful! They also have dresses and tops for every price point. A quality I love. If you wanted something fancy, it will set you back about $75-$120 BUT there are great casual pieces in the $20's and $30's. I love a clothing retail store that is made for real people and Donna's is the place. Dear Donna, If you want to open a location in St. Louis, you will have at least one super happy customer. I also can work (I would probably need to take a second job after all the pretty dresses I would buy there). Sincerely, Emily W.

Yelp
If you go into Donna's Dress Shop once, you will be hooked! There is a good variety of styles, even though it's such a niche shop. The prices are not terrible... it's no more for a dress there than it would be at stores like Gap or Express, and you're getting something a lot more original and not as widely sold. I recently bought a dress with cats wearing bows printed on it there and I love it. As I was shopping, the woman working there (I think it may have been Donna herself!) was really friendly and helpful. While the dresses can be a little pricey, there are basic staples there that are pretty low in price, actually.. the jewelry and accessories like belts are very affordable. I got a belt for $14 and a pair of cute earrings shaped like dachshunds for $10. They also post pictures on instagram and facebook of all their new products as they arrive which is really fun because then you don't miss anything. I can only let myself go in there if I am planning to spend money because I always find something I want!

Yelp
I stopped in this shop on the recommendation of a friend who lives in KC. The shop is absolutely wonderful. It is clean, spacious, well organized, attractive - and full of unique and interesting clothing and accessories. The owner, Donna, is genuine, friendly, helpful and pleasant to chat with. I happened to be the only person in the store when I was there, and so I got her full attention. She was helpful, but gave me plenty of space. She helped me find more dresses like I had already selected, and gladly helped me zip up a few I couldn't get. Some of the dress prices were a bit beyond my price range, but I wouldn't say they were unreasonable - all her clothing is excellent new originals or vintage pieces in mint condition. It is a great shop.

Yelp
OMG I LOVE THIS STORE!!!!! I have stopped in here many times with friends and family, but had not bought anything. So last time I was in there I pick up this adorable skirt and it says size large (I think there is no way this will fit me), I go ask if they have a bigger size and they say no, but try it on. They run big. I am thinking no way, but what the hell. So I try it on and OMG it fits!!! They bring me several others to try in different patterns and tell me that the designer of this line runs big. I am so happy. I always thought of this as a skinny girl's shop. But they have clothes for us large sized girls too. I can't wait to go back again, and get some more items.

Yelp
One of my favorite shops in the city and for very good reason. Being bombarded by the same old mainstream retail stores it is refreshing to walk into a place and see vintage couture and inspired fashion that doesnt resemble everyone else walking around the Plaza. Not to mention, Donna is the cutest thing Ive ever seen. Her keen eye for vintage fashion, in all arenas, rivals any of the buyers in a larger venue to be sure. My only complaint w/ this place is I NEVER have enough money to buy everything I want! But in all seriousness, Im always able to find something spectacular to take home with me, regardless of my budget, and every piece purchased has earned me a never ending string of compliments. Thank you Donna and keep it up. Oh yeah that reminds me, I need a new pill box hat and some gloves; guess I'll pop over to Donna's Happy Shopping
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Everything was so adorable that I wanted it all. I had maybe half the store in my dressing room by the time it was all over. Unfortunately, a lot of it looked much better on the hanger than on me. I can't hold my spare tire against this shop, but it was a little demoralizing. The woman who helped me was patient, helpful and sweet, even though I created a lot of work for her by trying on so many things. I will be back. But maybe I'll wait until after my renewed commitment to running starts impacting my middle.

Yelp
EVERY TIME! EVERY TIME! EVERY TIME! EVERY TIME I COME TO KANSAS CITY, MO I COME SEE MS. DONNA! I truly have a great love and respect for her store uniqueness of finds and her beautiful personality. I look forward to purchasing quirky finds and beautiful pieces that I always get compliments on. The finds that I have found through the years while visiting Ms. Donna have been epic. I found fascinator which I wore at my wedding and great jewelry. Donna's Dress Shop sell vintage (used but good condition) and retro (recently made/new inspired) clothing, shoes, jewelry, hats, makeup, earrings, necklaces, rings, sunglasses, stockings, swim suits, etc. DEVINE, FABULOUS, OUTSTANDING are a few words that come to mind when I think of Donna's Dress Shop. They have awesome themed parties and sales! AH! I am so angry that I am not a local. Donna know that you are loved from Washington, DC by the Wallingford's.

Yelp
From the moment I saw the huge store front widows go into this old dance studio, I knew I had to visit. (Note: no, despite living directly around the corner, I had not visited her location across the street...really, I did't feel cool enough). My same fear came back as I passed it a few times...that I wasn't cool/hip enough to shop here. My perpetual fear of people discovering that I don't have much stlye outside of what gap tells me is cool, haunted me and kept me from going in the first few times I passed it. Then one day I finally got brave and went in...it just looked too awesome to pass up anymore. I was blown away. Donna was super nice, so helpful, but not pushy. I was relieved. Then I started to find all sorts of wonderful things! Too many to list. I also must mention how neat and clean the store is...it's amazing. Everything is so well organized, with plenty of space to walk around and browse. She does an amazing job at really picking out good pieces, so you don't have to hunt. Totally worth stopping in!

Leslie K.

Yelp
Dreamy...this is the way I describe how it feels when walking in and the rest is history... I only wish I was local and I could shop here all the time. I was luck enough to find quite a few vintage tresures and even better "vintage XL" which is quite hard to find. She must own a time machine to score all the beauties sold in the store. Now if only I can go back and get that fab Enid Collins NOS purse in the front...

Yelp
The clothes alone are enough to get anyone hooked. Some of the most fun and cute clothes live between these walls. They have a good assortment from new and vintage pieces, some in plus sizes as well. They also carry shoes, jewelery, and accessories. After my first glance of the quaint shop, I knew I would love it here, but there is so much character in this shop besides clothes. The two girls working greeted me right away, despite having a good amount of customers already in the store. One of the girls asked me if I had been in before and after I told them I was from out of town, they offered me a warm welcome, gave me a quick run-down of the stores set-up, and informed me of their current sale. The minute I grabbed an item off the rack, they had a fitting room set up for me. They were even kind enough to stand outside the fitting room and help me decide on my items! This was all in a very fair way, as well. I never thought that they were pushing a sale on me. Even though I was far from home, I still felt like I was shopping with my girlfriends! While prices for their modern pieces were a bit high (the only thing I bought that wasn't vintage was on sale), the vintage seems fairly priced for the quality pieces you are getting. If you're the frugal vintage shopper, keep your eyes open for sales! I scored two vintage plaid mini skirts for 10 dollars each!! I couldn't believe my luck!

Yelp
If you ever loved playing in your grandmothers closet as a girl, surrounded by 50's era dresses, high heels, and trying on strings of pearls--this place is for you. Step back a few, 40 years or so and visit Donna, a sweet, tiny lady who oozes 1950's charm and haircut. She can't be much older than me, but her store is contemporary vintage. The front room with sheek chic clothes, all the accessories needed including handbags, jewelry, sunglasses, hats, and shoes. Really moderately priced stuff considering the quality of it. And in the backroom, there's more of the used/vintage clothing separated by era. I found some adorable button down shirts from the 70's, only $15 each! Also, sweaters, skirts, jeans, and dresses. Lets just say I spent some time with Donna

Yelp
I love this store. I usually make a mental list of places I visit when I go shopping. Donna's is always on the top of the list. They sell vintage and new clothes. I have never been disappointed with them. I always get compliments when i'm in public wearing something from Donna's. Everything about this store is amazing!

Yelp
I love love love this place. They have vintage styles. Not to mention vintage clothing at affordable prices in great condition. As well as newly made clothing. They are very helpful and have good hours. The only thing I can say thats not 100% positive is that they only have one of each size of the new dresses. So get there early if you you want the best selection. They also throw partys and shows. I havent goten to go to one yetn but I realy want to.

Yelp
I cannot rave about this store enough. After following them on Instagram for months in anticipation of my move to KC, I was finally able to sample their wares today! Anyone can see online that their store and products are adorable, but I have never seen such reasonable prices, nor had such attentive customer service at a vintage boutique. I'm the kind of shopper who tries to stay out of everyone's way, and never wants to be a bother to the employees. Here, I barely waited 30 seconds with a garment in hand before promptly being asked if I wanted it taken to a dressing room for me. The space is intimate, but not cramped or crowded, despite the sizable offering of both true vintage and vintage repro. Overall, I am extremely pleased and will be returning to explore whenever they release new collections, or if I just need something special!

Yelp
Cool clothes, great customer service when they want you to buy. However, I will never go back..their return policy is too strict. After dropping $40 on a vintage tee, and spending $300 the week before, I came back asking to trade a size small dress for the same in a medium. They had plenty on the rack, but would not let me swap out the unworn dress for a larger size. They said it was an inventory issue..what?!! It's your store, you can do what you want. Really bad business practice!!

Yelp
The name sounds old-lady, but the stock isn't! This store houses a range of vintage and vintage style clothes, including jewelry and accessories. Definitely worth checking out as you trek down 39th street.

Yelp
This is always the first place I go when I need a dress for something whether it's a wedding or a beach vacation. I've also purchased a few jewelry items and I don't wear much to begin with - the jewelry there is just that unique. They also have shoes/hats/purses, but I haven't had as much luck as I have with dresses. I never fail to find at least 2-3 things I want to leave with regardless of what I came in looking for. I like that it's a mix of new and vintage, and they are great about updating their facebook page with new stuff as it comes in. Prices range from CHEAP! to a little bit out of my budget range, so there's something for everyone. I can't recommend this place enough. It can get crowded on the weekends with lines for the dressing rooms, but the staff is always pleasant and tries to make it as efficient as possible.

Yelp
I stopped in Donna's Dress Shop while visiting from LA last week. I've known Donna for years and have always admired her style and was excited to see her shop. The store is small but very neatly arranged and has a lovely selection of both new and reproduction vintage styles. I found a lovely red 1940's red reproduction dress which she referred to as the "hot tamale" dress which fit like a dream. I also picked up a pair of heart shaped Lolita glasses in polka dots for $12 (a nice price indeed). It was lovely to see Donna and her other employee was charming as well. I will definitely return when I am back home for another visit... Thanks Donna

Yelp
Here it is, girls!! Donna's has new and refurbished vintage styles, all lined up and sized (big range of sizes) just for you. This huge selection of organized stock is encompassed by a light, airy store, 'vintage' music and even humidifiers to keep the clothes and shoes happy. I am an 8-10 and usually can't find much vintage, because so much of it is teensy. Not so at Donna's--lots of sizes, lots of colors and prints, and even witty comments on the dress tag (as in, "You'll be ready for Studio 54!"). Add a wonderful, personalized customer service experience, and you're in clothing heaven. The other aspect here is that pieces are unique and NOT just like everything at Macys and Nordstrom. Everything has been lovingly restored; linings are there, lace is tacked down, etc. Accessories abound, so you can create an entire look here, not necessarily just one piece. Donnas brings back an experience of personalized shopping, high-quality unique goods, and great customer service. Try getting that from Amazon!!

Yelp
I was seriously surprised by the lack of customer service. Donna was so rude...I've always held her in high esteem, so this was confusing. My sister gave me a necklace with a fun charm on it. I wore it once and the chain broke. The chain had clearly been repaired at least once before. I took it in a couple days after she gave it to me to see if maybe they had a replacement chain. Donna refused to find another chain and said I'd had it for a long time...it had been, maybe a week? My sister lives in PA, and rarely gets to kc, so this was pretty dissapointing for both of us.

Yelp
I. Love. Donna's. This store, which is (too) close to my apartment, is so fun and always has cute dresses and jewelry to buy. It has not helped my shopping problem at all, but has helped me add some fun and flair to my wardrobe. Donna is a doll and is always decked out in head-to-toe vintage adorableness. They have a birdcage with two little birds, which you might think is so cute but they're noisy little guys. Prices range from moderate to kind of expensive depending on what you want, but they often have fun events and discounts to promote certain items. One of KC's best boutiques!

Yelp
Oh Donna! *sigh* If I lived within a 20 yard radius of this boutique I'd be living out of a box. But dressed beautifully. As much as I love vintage, the new dresses on the rack are irresistible and the prices realistic. I'm getting dreamy-eyed thinking about it. It's no secret that I love shopping and sewing, so it's perfect that Donna has stunning clothes and vintage patterns, oh! and jewelry! I only wish that I could be as retro-chic as Donna (obviously the owner) and her employees. There is such a beautiful selection of tops, bottoms, dresses and accessories that there is a flattering piece for every body. Who ever is working is more than happy to give you feedback out of the dressing room and find you something perfect for your occasion or everyday. The clothes I buy from Donna's always get compliments, and trust me, it's not me. I cannot drive own 39th street without nearly plowing into cars looking at the display windows. I'm still kinda upset that the bustier on facebook sold before my sister could pick it up for me. Be aware: NO RETURNS. Not that I've ever wanted to, but I often send my sis as a personal shopper, as she lives near by. I have one hang up: I really, really dislike birds. So beware, there is a caged one here, but adds to the '50's ambiance. I think it's time for some spring dresses!

Yelp
I always like to do a quick browse at Donna's when I'm in Kansas City. There are often some really cute finds. I have a really awesome vintage 70s dress I bought there three years ago with little gold coins hanging off the bell sleeves. I get raves whenever I wear it. The last couple of times I've visited, though, I have felt like the prices are climbing, and not always in line with the quality of the merchandise. Just this last weekend, I tried on a cute (not amazing, but cute) little red and white vintage cocktail dress. There were quite a few little brownish black dirt spots on the back and even one on the front. It was $98, and for me, if a fairly standard vintage dress (I'm not talking really unusual or bridal or straight-up Jackie O or something like that--just a cute little gown) approaches a hundred bucks, it's gotta make a big statement. And the big statement this dress would have made was, "I got suckered into spending $100 on a dirty old dress." I collect vintage, and I know the pieces aren't always pristine, but one hundred dollars for a fairly generic dirty cocktail dress just doesn't cut it. I very politely pointed out the spots to the clerk and asked if there was any flexibility on pricing, and she answered, also politely but firmly, "Donna doesn't negotiate on prices." Well, I don't chuck over $100 for dirty dresses, so that was the end of that potential sale. I know it's probably really hard to sell vintage in the age of the internet, and I appreciate the eye Donna clearly has for neat pieces. But vintage shoppers aren't looking for mall prices on used clothes. We're either willing to fork over a lot for a truly spectacular, one-of-a-kind item, or pay less for gowns that have seen a little wear and tear in their day. If the dress is visibly dirty and fairly generic, you can't charge more than it would cost to buy something pretty comparable at a new dress shop. I hope to find more amazing finds at Donna's someday, but it's definitely lost a little appeal to me in the last couple of years.

Yelp
This review is going to be very straightforward. The girls who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful, the vintage is cute and the new is pretty fantastic, the sizes are sane, and the prices are eminently reasonable. Downside: shop is very tiny so they don't carry a lot.

Yelp
Love the selection of new and vintage items! The staff is really friendly and accommodating! One of my favorite shops in KC!

Yelp
I love this store and have no problem buying luxury clothes and shoes, I do all the time. That being said, way too expensive and they need to lower prices.

Yelp
Donna's Dress Shop is a wonderful treasure trove of vintage offerings with a few modern items with a retro feel added for good measure. The prices are reasonable, especially on jewelry and hats, and Donna, the store owner, is very knowledgeable and helpful about finding the perfect thing for whatever you need. The store is always neat and tidy, and the merchandise changes and grows every time I go in. While I don't always purchase something each time I go in, I just love stepping back in time for a few moments while I peruse all the wonderful things Donna hand picks for her store. The only reason I gave Donna's four stars instead of five is because some of the new dresses can be quite spendy - well upwards of $100, which discourages me from purchasing them, however darling they may be, especially when there are three on the rack and I fear running into another fabulous retro kitten in the same dress. If you are a fan of vintage clothing, this is a must visit store.

Yelp
I was wanting to get some jewelry for my fiance and had passed this yellow building, with clothes hangers splattered all over it, a million times on my way to work. I like to support local places so I thought I'd give it a whirl, and I'm glad I did! They had a great vintage pin with a fake rock the size of a softball on it for what seemed a perfectly reasonable price. I don't know anything about jewelry and the little gal who helped me out was really nice, patient, and didn't make me feel like a total doofus. Pain free shopping and my best lady loved it!
