This One-of-a-Kind Seoul Museum Lets You Go Back in Time

"Our family was visiting Donuimun Museum Village, a full city block of traditional hanoks and more modern structures that is now a time capsule of Seoul history and culture from the 1890s to the 1990s. The free museum is named for the old western gate of the Seoul Fortress Wall, which stood nearby until the Japanese colonial government demolished it in 1915."

Donuimun Museum Village is a great place to visit while you're at the National Meteorological Museum. Though small in scale, it's well-organized and full of interesting exhibits. There are free exhibition halls to explore, and you can also participate in traditional cultural experiences such as making traditional food, crafting mother-of-pearl keyrings, and learning to play the gayageum (a traditional Korean string instrument). However, you must make a reservation in advance. Parking can be challenging, but if you visit in the morning, you might find some nearby spots.

The museum was a fascinating place to visit to explore the history of this site which used to be an important entry way for trade. After the Japanese take over it was drastically transformed. Learn about the impact of the streetcars on some of the removal of social classes between male and female to allow both sexes to use the street cars and also who could ride on it. The village is also free to visit. There are replicas of shops selling toys, comic books, a photography business, video games Arcade, school classroom and more. Great place for kids to explore and great hands on experiences for all. You can also pick up a leaflet that you can stamp with the places you visit in the village.

What a marvelous way to slide in and out of Seoul's past seamlessly! An interactive trip down memory lane, a peek into our parents' childhoods, and the nostalgia of it all.

Small village with a bunch of small shops and business celebrating culture. Includes a small free museum that describes the history of the village and surrounding area.

I have been visiting Korea all my life and this is the best attraction I've seen. I always wish that there were more traditional things to see or participate in so I can truly connect with the culture. My mom left Korea as a young girl during the time period this village captures. She was in tears getting to be in it again and was excited to "finally" go to music bar she wasn't allowed in as a kid. The attention to detail is incredible and the village truly captures a piece of Korean history that we all keep close to our hearts.

We spent half an hour here. There was nobody there, everything is in Korean. We made a few good photos and were were very happy roaming around

Modern re-interpretation. Good. Photogenic. But not truly traditional.

A free mesuem village to visit. We can go in and see the shops in 60-70s (I guess), so it is a fun experience. The key is, it is free entry. It seems there are some workshops to join with some affordable price.
