"Maui’s quiet town of Wailuku is home to some of the world’s most artful doughnuts. The owner of Donut Dynamite!, who goes by her nom de cuisine "Madame Donut," started the business as a food truck. In 2016, she opened this brick-and-mortar location after she won the “Backyard Barbecue” episode of the Cooking Channel’s Sugar Showdown . Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, she brings a high-concept approach to her signature sweets, with standout flavors including bacon-maple, cheesy hammy, and a lush purple number featuring Molokai sweet potato and poi (a Native Hawaiian staple made from taro roots). Don’t miss the legendary Cinnamon Toasty Crunchy, topped with finely diced croutons made in-house, and be sure to get to the shop early—it opens at 6 a.m. and often starts running low on doughnuts by 9 a.m."

Yelp
A main staple of the community who has been a major driving force of helping Maui get back on its feet, her donuts are as wonderful as her spirit, and I highly recommend anyone who gets to visit Maui to support her business as much as she's been supporting the local Maui community

Yelp
We have failed so many times in the past to try to get her exclusive elusive donuts... Quality/Quantity - You can see and feel the passion from Madame donut in both her baking and her ownership of her brand. Check out her website for the full story. We got the following, all of which were great: Molokai Sweet Potato Poi Donut Mango Poi Donut Lilikoi Malasada Large Thai Tea - Best Thai tea my daughter has ever had, and she drinks a lot of tea. Atmosphere - Appointment pre-order only, and open only on Saturday from 7am to 1pm for pick-up. Off by itself in Wailuku with a few small parking spaces, also since its appointment only, there should not be a problem. But plenty of street parking. Service - Excellent, especially for a 1 woman army! Price - $21; expensive but worth it and when in Maui... Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2013. I know you have had so many accomplishments in your life, but can I suggest that when you decide to focus on one (or fewer), you will become even more successful (if that is the direction you want to go in).

Yelp
*** Pre orders only!*** I didn't order it myself, my cousin did, so I don't know where you could pre-order. She did mention that she follows Donut Dynamite on Instagram so maybe that's where you can do it. They are SOOO GOOD! Ham and Cheese was fluffy, cheesy, warm, fresh and tummy-warming. I only had a quarter and that was enough to satisfy hunger. Well, I also only had a quarter because I still had other flavors to try. I really liked the MEXICAN CHOCOLATE flavored one as well. The LILIKOI cream was also very good. The worker at the front was super friendly. The baker came out from the back to say hi and to tell us that she's working on ice cream donut sandwiches too! Yum! Very small parking at the front. Definitely and in-n-out, stop-pick-up-and-go operation.

Yelp
I would say the savoury ones are better and definitely more special. They only open one day per week and to get what you want make sure to preorder! Value 3/5 Atmosphere 3/5 Service 3/5 Quality 5/5 14/20

Yelp
OMG the ladies here are so sweet and nice!! I didnt know there was preorder starting Monday but somehow I was able to get a couple SAVORY donuts. My friend had come by here couple years ago on a honeymoon and raved about the donuts so I had to give them a try. I got here at around 9am on Saturday, the only day they're open, and to my surprise, I was in luck. They had a few extra "green eggs and ham" and "cheesy hammy" left in the back so I got one of each. Priced at $7 and $6, they were a great snack. I cut them up in the car and tried a quarter each and saved the rest for the fam... or tried to.

Yelp
Sad update: Donut Dynamite is now closed, so these amazing treats are no longer available The owner/proprietor has moved on to new adventures, and I wish her all the best! She's definitely missed

Yelp
We planned our happy return for more of the best donuts you can imagine. Covid has brought big changes. There's no walk-in business. Donuts have to be ordered and paid for online. Orders are scheduled for pickup in 10 minute windows, from 7am to 1pm on Saturdays. The online menu changes on Mondays, for next Saturdays selections. Here's the menu... https://donutdynamite.com/order/ Inside the store, the counter is sealed off with shower curtains. Masks and gloves were in use, although Madame removed hers to show her smiling face. We had placed an order for 3 winners this time. 1) A repeat of the Bacon Maple Donut, sweet and savory with perfectly cut little squares of crispy bacon carefully arranged on the delicious maple flavor icing. Stunning. 2) Mexican Chocolate Donut, with creamy chocolate and a ring of drier chocolate crumbs. Also, six kisses of a marshmallowy icing around the top. If you like a little cayenne pepper in your chocolate, as I do, you will enjoy the little kick that Madame has added to these. 3) Lilikoi Caramel Meringue Donut, a true work of art! The colors and the pattern of the decoration looked too good to eat, but we ate it anyway. Sooo sweet and just a little tart and with that perfect meringue. Excellent. They keep track of reward points with online accounts now. So, my Frequent Frier Club punch card is no longer accepted and my punches can't be transfered to my account. Bummer. However, I've been assured that the card itself is a valuable collectable, much like beany babies. So, if anyone is interested in this treasure, I might be convinced to trade it for a nice sports car or maybe a donut.

Yelp
I'm personally not a huge fan of this style of donut but I have to give credit to the beautiful presentation. I asked the lady at the counter which flavor she'd recommend and she said vanilla which struck me as odd. Then she explained that they're known for their brioche style dough so the vanilla is the simplest choice to best experience this. I followed her advice and also ordered the malasada. They were a bit expensive ($5/donut) but I think that's standard for Maui. The dough is a bit dense for me personally but you could tell the donut was baked fresh and made with love. Good attentive service with very friendly people behind the counter. Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
Had the opportunity to try this deliciousness doughnuts. It was brought to work for a co workers birthday. So glad he brought them at least I got to try it out.. So yummy im not sure what is was but it was yummmmmmy. Will be there to try more of these doughnuts.

Yelp
We've been going through all the top places to eat in Maui but with 100% certainty, this place is all hype. $5 a donut is outrageous but we thought maybe they would be worth it. Not even almost. I wouldn't eat another one if it was free. The donuts are Instagram worthy looks-wise but they are really soft and oily. Not our thing. But the service was nice.

Yelp
I don't know what happened I ordered this savory breakfast item and this item and the whole bread completely tastes like cinnamon so it was obviously cooked in a tray that had something with cinnamon in it but the whole bread itself is completely cinnamon and unedible an unedible as a savory item. Bummer $7 down the drain.

Yelp
I learned about Donut Dynamite from a local and I'm so happy for his suggestion! If I had gone straight online I probably would have dismissed it and missed out on great donuts. It's a little hobby of mine to try different donuts and dim the best one whenever I travel - I drove 50 min out of way for these. Donut Dynamite takes the title for Maui's best donut. It's a small shop run by a sparkle of joy, Madame Donut. Orders are online only and picks are on Saturday with a reserved pick up time slot (COVID times). I picked mine up and headed to the beach - perfect start to the weekend. Madame Donut offers these unique flavors each week. Best of all, all ingredients are fresh. The brioche dough is divine (not too heavy/dense). I can't wait to make my way back to the island and have these again! Donuts: The Real Mac.Koi - gimme all the lilikoi! This was tartILiCiOUS Honey Goat Cheese Walnut - perfect balance between sweet and savory (yum) * Cheesy Hammy Savory - do not miss this one. I ordered too late and they were already sold out.

Yelp
After trying Donut Dynamite's doughnuts at work a couple of times, I finally figured out what the big hype was about these delicious, flavorful brioche doughnuts. They are not your typical doughnuts. They are light and buttery and yes I had no idea what brioche even meant until having these doughnuts and now I have a craving for this place quite often...lol. This past Saturday morning we stopped in and I was crossing my fingers hoping they would still have their maple bacon but sadly they had just sold it to a couple that came in before us :( Lesson learned. Pre-ordering is the way to go lol. We settled for the brown butter and the cinnamon toasty crunch since those were the only ones left other than the cinnamon rolls lol. We also ordered coffee and Madam Donut's husband Frank, brewed us a fresh pot and we talked story with them while we were waiting. They are a very sweet couple with great customer service skills and a great business. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook for their daily menu, updates and specials and like I mentioned before, pre-order to make sure you are able to get your favorites :) Check them out!

Yelp
Reflecting on our recent visit to Maui a highlight of our trip was our stop at Donut Dynamite. Donut exploration is not only about the donut, but also about relationships. This was the case @donutdynamite meeting the owner @themadamedonut (Cooking Channel donut showdown winner - see @donutdynamite Facebook page for link) and talking "donut" and donut-making. There are very few donut shops willing to tackle the Cadillac of donut dough - brioche, but @themadamedonut has done so brilliantly and with the Aloha flair! Of course, no review is complete without discussing donuts! On the day of our visit, we arrived later in the morning on our way to Hana, so a reduced selection was available, but still some fine choices, as follows (names being confirmed and will be updated): Calamansi Ginger Mint, Lemon-Lime Poppyseed Sugar Buns, Brown Butter, and. Vanilla Bean. All were delicious, with the most unique being the mint. The vanilla Ben was classic. The burnt butter was very tasty, but the standout fave and 2019 #donutoftheyear candidate was the sticky/sugar bun. Definitely wanted seconds for this one. Visit @donutdynamite and let @themadamedonut know that Lonny with @donutexplorers sent you! .

Yelp
Donut Dynamite makes BOMB donuts. They are flavorful, fluffy, moist brioche doughnuts and you can definitely tell that these have been made fresh upon the first bite. What drew me to this place was their unique flavors. The donuts are beautifully decorated and look like creations of art. I ordered the blueberry peanut butter crunch and the Iilikoi malasada. Both were equally delicious -- I don't think you can go wrong with any donut on the menu. However, come early as they do sell out fast!! Personally, I'd probably skip the coffee here and just stick to the donuts. I don't think the espresso machine gets used often since the woman looked like she wasn't familiar with using it and my drink had a lot of grinds. Overall, definitely make a stop here if you're on the island!

Yelp
This place has the best donuts. Because of Covid not open every day. You need to order/pay online for Saturday pickup-she gives you a 10 min window after you pick a time. We have never been disappointed with anything we've gotten from here so no wrong choices. The owner-Madam Donut- uses fresh local ingredients. They are a little more expensive than a lot of donut places but we'll worth the money for what you get. Picked 3 this time and they didn't disappoint. Store is small and only set up for takeout. She has drinks also but we just bought donuts.

Yelp
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife. We had found donut dynamite via Yelp and due to Covid (or at least I assume so) they are only taking pre orders for Saturday's. You can pick the time you want to pick them up, between 7 AM and 1 PM. Since we were ordering them without actually seeing them I didn't know what to get but my wife and I ultimately settled on a pork adobo savory brekkie bun, a very berry rosemary and then 2 lilikoi filled malasadas with 7:00 - 7:10 AM pickup time. We arrived to pick up the donuts at 7:02 AM and it was not yet open. So a line started to form and at right around 7:10 AM, the shop opened up. At around 7:20 I finally had my donuts and was on my way. The first item that my wife and I split was the brekkie bun which the menu described as a Warm Sesame-Garlic Brioche Bun filled with Egg, Pork Adobo, Mixed Cheeses and topped with Pickled Red Onions. We actually mistook it for a bagel of sorts as the skin of the bun had a nice chewy exterior and then a soft interior. The adobo pork inside of it was good while the egg added extra richness which the pickled red onions helped to cut. Overall it was a good bun and one my wife and I were not sad to have ordered. The next item that we tried was the lilikoi malasada and man were they large. They also had a crazy amount of lilikoi filling in them which both my wife and I really loved. If it was sweetened, it was only slightly so which really let you taste the flavor of the lilikoi and paired nicely with the sugar sanded donuts. This was probably the best lilikoi filling I have had during my many trips to Hawaii. Last but certainly not least was the berry rosemary which the menu described as Classic Brioche, Mixed Berry Glaze, Fresh Rosemary, Strawberry Glaze. After the previous items I was expecting a cake donut but that wasn't the case here as it was surprisingly light and airy. You could really taste the rosemary too which was interesting and even though I didn't get as much strawberry from the glaze as expected, I enjoyed this donut. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Everything we had was good and I will be dreaming about those lilikoi malasadas!

Yelp
Delicious donuts but definitely recommend ordering in advance online :)

Yelp
Is it food? Is it art? Who cares, it's INCREDIBLE!!! I've been eating Donut Dynamite for many years, via the Maalaea General Store. Today was the first time I stopped in at the shop on Lower Main in Wailuku to pick up a dozen for a meeting. Yes, the donuts are expensive, BUT WORTH EVERY DOLLAR! The quality, superior taste, presentation, and selection makes for total sensory satisfaction. As others have stated, parking can be a pain and the donuts can sell out fast. Solution, get there early, or pre-order a couple days in advance. If you're lucky enough, you'll get to meet Madame Donut herself, a Harley riding fireball of energy and creativity that is as unique as her donuts. If a donut place could get a Michelin Star, Donut Dynamite would be first in line.

Yelp
Donut Dynamite is an absolutely can't miss if you have a sweet tooth and find yourself on the island of Maui. Their incredible and inviting service is surpassed only by their pleasantly unique, moist, and hearty morsels of happiness they serve up on most days of the week. At $4 a donut it may seem like a pricey endeavor, but the experience you will come away with and savor for years to come easily outweighs the thought of its cost. I can't even begin to describe the flavors we experienced with these donuts, which ranged from deep and comforting to light and tangy. The way they express their culture through donuts is impressive. We got 7-8 donuts and each was an adventure of its own. My recommendation is to choose flavors you would never imagine yourself trying. You will not regret it. Several years and hundreds of round, holy pillows of fried dough later, these are still my most memorable donuts of all time. Sometimes I dream of flying back to Maui just to have a few more.

Yelp
This is not your ordinary donut. All the donuts at Donut Dynamite are made from brioche dough. I love the different and super creative flavors they offer. Be sure to get there early for the best selection! These works of art are $4 a piece of $33 for a dozen. Parking right in front of the bakery.

Yelp
I admit, I am not the biggest donut person but Donut Dynamite is definitely changing all of that. First off, you should get here early. They open at 7 and they post their days menu on their instagram page @donutdynamite usually around the time of opening. The menu changes daily so what donut you may have loved yesterday might not be there today...so you might find a new favorite donut to love! We got here around 730am on a Friday and it could've been because it was a holiday but all parking stalls in front of the shop were taken (I think there are about 6 stalls). I admit, I was panicking because I really wanted a pumpkin donut from there today (yes I DID check their menu on social media, wink wink). Luckily we got a stall quickly (thank you to the parking Gods!) and went in to order. They got slammed first thing in the am so we actually got the LAST 3 Pumpkin donuts!!! I was so happy we did tho because.....well, because PUMPKIN!!! Yum! We ended up getting a dozen: the smashed pumpkin of course, cinnamon sticky sugar bun (omggggg so buttery and cinnamony YUM!), strawberry rose, Molokai sweet potato poi, lemon mascarpone sourdough, Beet red velvet, s'mores, calamansi ginger mint, chocolate sprinkles, and a Haupia malasada. Oh, AND we got their brekkie bun of the day: green eggs and ham! Three of those so we wouldn't have to share, heehee ;) It was a delicious way to start our day, so much that guess you could say I am now a donut person ;) Bring on some more donuts!!!!!!!!! :)

Yelp
Have you ever tasted a donut SO good that you just crave it all. the. time? You think about it constantly until you finally have it in your hands and *poof* it disappears just as quickly as your paycheck on payday. Yup, Donut Dynamite will do that even to the best of us. It's that good! Madame Donut's sweet concoctions have taken a magical hold of me and I am addicted! She makes all her artisanal brioche donuts from scratch, using the very best ingredients. They've created unique flavors like Molokai Sweet Potato Poi, Honey Goat Cheese Walnut, Calamansi Ginger Mint, Miso Honey, & much more! So far I've had the Strawberry Rose, Maple Bacon, Smores, & Brown Butter. Oooh brown butter... this is my absolute favorite! It changed my life. For real. Sure, each donut is $4, but they are oh so worth it and the constant "sold out" sign on the door before the shop's actual closing time (1 pm) is a testament to that! For a better deal, I suggest getting a dozen for $33 and GO EARLY! It's common for popular flavors to go fast. You can also call the shop ahead of time though and they will put the donuts aside for you. If you can't make it to the shop, you can find their donuts in various establishments around the island like Jaws Country Store & Maalaea General Store just to name a few. Happy hunting! Oh, P.S. They make donut cakes. I repeat, they make donut cakes!
google avatar

Iolana E.

Yelp
If you love donuts, then you'll love these artisanal made delights! These sweet and savory treats went well with my morning cup of coffee. Open Monday-Saturdays 7am-2pm, in Wailuku. I really enjoyed the Lilikoi (passion fruit) Carmel Meringue, the sweet and tangy went well together. I also enjoyed the Calamansi Ginger and Mint, Grapefruit Negroni, and who doesn't love BACON and maple LOL. A dozen donuts are $40 and 1/2 dozen is $26.
google avatar

Kristie H.

Yelp
All the donuts at Donut Dynamite are made from brioche dough. Madame Donut is a colorful Maui personality that has devoted her life to the craft so much that she legally changed her name to Madame Donut. Before opening the shop, she attended culinary school, where one of her instructors was the pastry chef at the famous French Laundry Restaurant in California. Now, Madame Donut is dedicated to spreading love and knowledge of her donuts through using sustainable local ingredients. Located in the sleepy town of Wailuku, Madame Donut makes a maximum of 40 dozen doughnuts each day in such unique varieties as bacon-maple, miso-honey, cheesy hammy, and goat cheese with walnuts. She does not use any artificial coloring. The doughnuts are pink from local strawberries or purple from Molokai sweet potatoes. The shop relies heavily on neighbors, who drop off excess fruit from their backyard gardens that Madame Donut then uses for her small batches of donuts. Donuts sell out fast.

Yelp
Holy. Moly. Literally the best donuts I have EVER had! And how lucky are we that they're located right here on Maui! I mean I've even had VooDoo Donuts in Portland, OR and a bunch of other fancy ones on the mainland and none of them even compare! We tried a variety of donuts from them this morning, but my absolute FAVORITE was the lilikoi stuffed malasada. A lot of the time you find these stuffed with jelly, but that was not the case with this one. This buggah was a delicious sweet but tart lilikoi CREAM! So ono! It has definitely become a new addiction. Eek!
google avatar

Bethani E.

Yelp
Not your average donut. They sell out for a reason, so the earlier you venture to get your donut fix, the more options you'll have. These donuts are delicious. They're not dense or overly sweet and you can tell these are made with care. They are visually appealing and flavors are complex. I've tried 6 or 7 different flavors and my favorites are ube sweet potato and miso honey. All have been delicious, but these two have been my regular repeats. My husband likes the lilikoi caramel merengue and my kids are fans of the banana bee pollen fritter. No matter how you order, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Yelp
Ah! Almost forgot to review! My friend told me Donut Dynamite was a must visit while in Maui. Hearing from her and also seeing all the reviews about them selling out, we decided to head in early before our Road to Hana adventure. Luckily everything was available when we arrived. They sadly didn't have maple bacon donuts on the menu that day. Service was quick. The owner was so sweet and helped us make some very hard choices. I wanted to try them all but we ordered seven just for the two of us Tehehe. Our stomachs were definitely bigger than our eyes. I took a bite out of all of them but unfortunately we weren't able to finish all seven and they got pretty stale the next day. My boyfriend LOVED the blueberry PB crunch. We also got the mango poi, cinnamon toast crunchy, brown butter, strawberry rose, oreo, and honey goat cheese walnut. The goat cheese walnut was for sure my favorite. The second best, probably the mango poi or strawberry rose. The rest were just OK. They personally had too much toppings going on. They were all pretty light and airy though. I'd stick to the basic flavors next time. Overall, they were OK but I wasn't amazed. Also keep in mind, these donuts are NOT cheap. They're about $5 each! We spent almost $40 on 7 donuts.

Yelp
My cousin and I were talking about food crazes, he mentioned donuts and I was hooked. Here's my experience on a Saturday afternoon. AMBIANCE: Parking: Pretty limited, about 4-5 spots but if you're lucky there's streets parking as well. Seating: Inside parking, bar setup for about 5-8 people. Feels: The surroundings is not the most popping place, a little run down and not that touristy. The space itself is pretty neat. A small intimate seating to grab a bite and go. There's some pretty neat vibrant art to look at if you're not staring at the artisan donuts. FOOD: Cocoa Bits (Recommend) The dough is fresh and the presentation is excellent. I loved the sweetness of the chocolate and almonds. The subtle bitterness of the cacao makes it extra awesome. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (Recommend) Not like the cereal but different in a good way. The cinnamon was well scattered along with the powder sugar. Lemon Merengue (A-OK) Maybe I'm not a lemon merengue person or I was expecting it to be a s'more but for what it was it was creamy and tart. Malasadas taken to another level. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Desiree was awesome. Approachable and great person to strike a conversation with. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Wonderful, just wonderful. The presentation is excellent, choices were creative and delicious, and the service was solid. It is pricey ($4) but then again, this is not your average donut spot. A must for tourists, locals, donut enthusiasts. Tips: COME EARLY AS POSSIBLE! They close as soon as they run out. Great place to grab on the go and explore the island.

Yelp
I would have never tasted anything from here had it not been for my friend who bought me a donut as I don't have a sweet tooth. ATMOSPHERE: While I have yet to step foot inside, they've taken over the spot of the short-lived Maui Manapua. Parking is right out front. MENU: Sorry, had I gone in I could've relayed more info, but all I was told was that they offer some standard fare as well as daily specials. DONUTS: Ham & Cheese - $4. Yes, $4 for ONE! This isn't a sweet donut by any means. Bits of ham were mixed in to the donut's batter that was formed into a square, spread with mustard on top, and crowned with melted American cheese that was sprinkled with possibly paprika and other herbs. Of course by the time I received it at work it wasn't hot, so I popped it in the micro for 20 seconds which softened the cheese and made the inside of the donut warm and moist again. It was really tasty but the herb sprinkling was a tad bit salty. FACT: The owner legally changed her real name to Madame Donut, lol. OVERALL: Very creative work, pricey, support local.

Yelp
I cannot more highly recommend this place!! The donuts are noticeably better than all donuts I've had before. You can tell they're super fresh from the first bite. The donut itself is the perfect soft texture that I've never had before. The shop owner is super helpful and friendly too. He dived into a ton of information when I asked for suggestions and told me all about how his donuts are all made from local ingredients and the toppings are all made in house. Tip- go early!! The first day I tried to go at 10:30 and they were already closed because they close once they sell out!!

Yelp
"The Only Circle of Trust That You Need is a Donut" When you see that kind of saying painted on the front door how can you go wrong? After having lunch with a longtime buddy at Archie's, came across this business down the street. I have a weakness for food but in particular, DONUTS. ( Ask the Donut Queen of Las Vegas- Christie L. She knows. ) So there I am, driving down Lower Main Street when I glance to my left and see a window posting in big bright letters-"We have DONUTS!" Doing a quick turn around, hightailed it back to see what this shop had to offer. Donut Dynamite has been around selling their delights in Kihei and other places. They also sold their stuff at the weekend open market in Kahului. This brick and mortar location opened in September and has evidently been going strong since then. A small and clean store front, the offerings are located behind the counter on shelves labeled with the goodies being offered that day. They are open from 7 to 1pm each day or until they run out which evidently does happen. The prices are on the higher side- $4.00 a piece, but the quality of the ingredients make it clear that this is not your supermarket donut. A brioche style base makes this a special donut that is dense, soft and not greasy. They also serve their version of malasadas and some other items but today my focus was on da donuts. I went at about 12:40pm, pretty close to closing so the pickings were slim. Selected the Lemon Merengue and the Sprinkles. The Sprinkles donut was like eating a soft sweetbread with a thick, glazed icing and colorful sugar bits created from scratch sprinkled on top. The Lemon Merengue had a nice creamy filling with a scorched Merengue on the top- like a brioche Lemon merengue pie- mmmmm. Between these two I preferred the Lemon Merengue, it had a nice tart taste to the filling, more subtle than intense. These "leftover" flavors were quite good and left me wanting to try more. Because they are pretty dense, one, maybe two, are the most people will devour at one sitting. Even for this chowhound, it was one and done. ( I tried pieces of each to taste both) Throw in some black coffee or a nice tea and you have a perfect duo. At $4 a pop, you have to think twice about buying more than a couple, but if you buy a dozen, the price drops to $3 a piece. They also have a "fryers club" punch card, buy 10 and you get a free donut. Any recipient of these goodies would probably be flattered that you bought one of best da valley isle has to offer. Had a chance to meet the baker extraordinaire, Desiree (better known as Maui's Madame Donut) and after talking with her you can tell she has been putting her heart and soul into her offerings. She recently won a cooking channel competition called "Donut Showdown" on the mainland (it aired on Nov 8) and took home $10,000. Like Top Chef with mystery ingredients except it has to do with donuts. There are five slanted parking stalls in the front. Backing into Lower Main Street is a challenge so be very careful. Somewhat reminiscent of Blue Star Bakery in Portland, this one is a little denser but worth a try. So when you have da munchies for a special sweet treat, check out Donut Dynamite- a high quality alternative when a conventional fried yeast donut just won't do.

Madame Donut of Donut Dynamite is NOT selling junk food, and she will passionately tell you so Her one of a kind artisanal brioche donuts are made from scratch and made with local and fresh ingredients. She has a lineup of her "regular" flavors and there are always special unique flavors on a daily basis based on whatever local ingredients she has to inspire her. Here is a list of the flavors I've tried, in no particular order of deliciousness: -Lilikoi Malasadas: Ok, so these are ACTUALLY my favorite, they are just so tasty! The lilikoi custard filling is sweet, tart and creamy. I could eat it just by itself I love it so much. -OhReo: Chocolate brioche dough topped with homemade Oreo type topping, my kids and I love this one! -Strawberry Rose: Another one of my favorites, delicious glaze and home made candies/sprinkles on top. -Very Berry Rosemary: This one is not always available, but I can't resist when it is! I love the flavor combination. Classic brioche dough with berry glaze and rosemary on top. -Grapefruit Basil: This one is so rare I've only had it once, and I've never forgotten it. A brightly flavored grapefruit glaze with basil reduction on her signature brioche donut. -Banana Coco Butterscotch: Another one I don't see everyday, but delicious nonetheless. I don't remember the specifics, but I remember it was delicious (like all the others). -Vanilla Bean: A classic staple, but as with everything from Donut Dynamite it's elevated to new heights with the freshest ingredients. Classic brioche with a vanilla bean glaze, and anything but basic. -Sweet Potato Poi: I'm ashamed to admit it took me over a year to try this as it's another one of her classics, but I just had one earlier this week and it was divine! The sweet potato glaze is naturally sweet (and purple) thanks to the local purple sweet potatoes she uses. I will be back for more! -Brown Butter: Classic brioche with brown butter sugared topping. Sweet, rich, and buttery goodness. -Lemon meringue malasada: Malasada with homemade lemons curd filling topped with meringue! The tartness of the filling pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the meringue. -Maple Bacon: Another favorite of mine, sweet maple glaze and salty bacon bits on, a perfect combination. -The Real MacKoi: A newer creation that I love, I forget the specifics of this one as well, but there are lilikoi and Mac nuts involved, so you know it's gonna be good. -Salted Carmel: Decadent chocolate brioche donut topped with Carmel glaze and gourmet sea salt. Absolutely scrumptious. -Samoa Kine: Chocolate brioche with toppings inspired by the classic Samoa cookies, think Carmel drizzle, more chocolate, and toasted coconut. This is another winner (honestly they all are). -Sprinkles: A daily staple here, offered in both chocolate and vanilla varieties. Chocolate or classic brioche dough with matching glaze topped with Madame Donuts homemade sprinkles. This one is always a hit with the kiddos (and me).

Yelp
There isn't much parking here, and Donut Dynamite will close once they're sold out, so come early! We came around 11am on a Saturday and we were lucky enough to still be able to order a dozen donuts with one of each flavor. Every bite got better and better as we tried each flavor. My least favorite was the honey goat cheese walnut, but it's probably nothing against the donut itself since I just don't like goat cheese. The other 11 donuts were all delicious, but if I had to choose my favorites, I'd go with: cinnamon toast crunch, Molokai sweet potato pie, calamansi ginger mint, lilikoi malasada, and banana coco butterscotch. Their flavors are really unique here which makes them stand out above any regular donut shop. If you get a chance to stop here before/after a flight at Kahului Airport, you definitely should!

Yelp
Split decision on the donuts. My spouse thought her blueberry peanut butter crunch was delicious. My chocolate and Oreo donut was dry and the dough itself tasted like cocoa powder and nothing else. The flavor was in the topping and it was very sugary and came off the donut in huge chunks. We swapped bites and agreed with each other on the assessment. The donuts are larger than a typical bakery donut but weigh in at a very hefty $5 each.

Yelp
WOW everything is so good here and the donuts taste as good as they look. There are several flavors to choose from but we do love the very berry rosemary, lilikoi malasada, molokai sweet potato poi, honey butter, miso honey, wait...i'm about to list the whole damn menu lol. If you're drooling over the pictures already, you better make it there fast since they do close at 2pm if you're going to the store. Otherwise, they have donuts in select locations all over the island :)

Yelp
Went this morning and Donut Dynamite was everything I hoped for, after reading the great reviews. Donuts were delicious and Madame Donut and her staff made the experience a memorable one. Everyone that works there are really nice, genuine people. Madame Donut even shared her story about living in NYC years ago, where I'm from. As, for the donuts, they were all really delicious, but my favorite was the Ginger Mint! I lucked out. There were only three Ginger Mint donuts left when I arrived and they sold out of this flavor soon after. The Poi Sweet Potato was delicious as well. You could never find these flavors in NYC where I'm from. The donuts were also very light and airy which I loved. The other thing I loved was that Madame Donut was very patient and helped with the donut selection process. I wanted light, subtle flavors, vs very decadent, and she was happy to recommend some great ones. There was no rushing to order, which was awesome. She spent time to describe the flavors and even how some of the specialty donuts are made. I went on a Monday at 7:50am-8am and maybe it was because a lot of vacationers leave on Sunday, and locals go back to work on Monday, but luckily there wasn't a crazy line. (A couple flavors were almost sold out though.) I found parking very easily. And it was the perfect breakfast before hitting the beach! Thanks for the great experience! Will definitely be back .

Yelp
This is my FAVORITE obsession on Maui. The donuts sell out SUPER fast so get here early. By 9:45am she's down to literally a handful if that much. Besides the eccentric owner Madam Donut, the donuts are incredible. All are specially handcrafted with unique flavors. The secret is her brioche dough. My absolute favorite is the lilikoi malasada. The lilikoi filing paired with the ultra soft dough makes my mouth feel like a Ferris wheel!! Weeee! If you can't get to this shop, donuts are delivered to various coffee shops. They sell out early sometimes too. If your lucky enough, you'll get to meet Madam Donut herself. PROS: Lilikoi Malasada Brioche dough Creative flavors Maple bacon donut Caramel lilikoi merengue donut CONS Sells out FAST

Yelp
You don't really deserve one of these. None of us do really. Think about it - they're so bad but so good right? Madame Donut herself is probably the only one bad ass enough to actually be worthy of these diabolically delectable demons. Not even Dunkin or KK can top this dynamite. Think of it this way - have you ever: Harvested your own salt on the cliffs of La Perouse to get the perfect umami for your brioche? Made puréed roasted beets simply for the depth natural color and richness for the right hue of twilight? But guys - I think I know her secret to getting people to wake up and rise E Ala E Her hair is the color of the Sun the Maui himself captured that fateful day. Seriously. I mean we all know that mana is also created from the food that we share In the creation, the harvest, the intention. This is the magic that is Donut Dynamite.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Donut Dynamite for the longest time and I am so glad that I finally have. The doughnuts while large and look heavy are nice and light. I tried the Samoa Kine and it tasted just like its Girl Scout cookie cousin. The Molokai Sweet Potato Poi doughnut wasn't overly sweet and had a nice hint of sweet potato to it. The Maui Vanilla Bean had a sweet but not too sweet flavor to it. Lastly the lilikoi malasada was great. The tartness of the lilikoi cream worked well with the sugar coated bread. The staff were super friendly and didn't hesitate to answer any questions. I am looking forward to future visits to try the other flavored doughnuts. Even though the price is a little high, I don't mind as the quality is better than your typical mainland chain and it's a local business, which I like to support.

Yelp
Anyone who has been here before knows what's up. Yes, if you've been hearing about Donut Dynamite, it totally lives up to the hype. We came here last week around 9am and the place was nearly wiped out. We got a dozen of what was left and everything was good. I'm not a huge fan of filled malasadas (in general) but my friends who tried theirs liked them. Today I went right at 7am and the shelves were stocked with beautiful donuts. Every one, perfectly made with keen attention to detail. These brioche donuts are light & fluffy on the inside and the glaze and toppings are so perfectly delicious. Got a dozen today and....wow. Also, the young friendly girl behind the counter has been super friendly & helpful both times. Go check them out. Donuts go for $4 ea or $33 doz so I totally recommend going for it and getting an assortment. Give some to your friends or family--sharing is caring!

Yelp
This is a must try while in Maui. Place your order on Monday and pick up Saturday! My husband was in love with the new ice cream sandwich's. Beautifully crafted and delicious!

Yelp
I'm not a big sweets eater but I'm always up for Donut Dynamite! Simply Said, Best Donuts Ever!

Yelp
Worth the early order and price. These are the best donuts we have had, with the right amount of fluffiness and not too crumbly. A bit pricey, but they were larger than an average donut. The Mango Poi was a highlight -- sweet with subtle poi underpinnings. We had half a dozen that worked as a decent breakfast for a few days. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
This was one of our favorite places to visit in Maui while on honeymoon. The donuts are so different than the rest of what the US offers and are so rich in Hawaiian flavors. It's a must. I will say, I wish the space inside was a little bit bigger but the character and personality of the small shop is so darn cute this is easily over looked!

Yelp
You've got to try these! Definitely worth placing your order first thing on Monday before your faves sell out! Right now it's online ordering with scheduled pick up times. Super easy! These are not ordinary donuts! They're brioche and they're HUGE, with unique flavors. You'll want to get a few flavors to share, bring a knife and extra napkins!

Yelp
I was almost leaving Jaws Country store near Haiku when a local Maui born and raised Yelp pal of mine called me back in to snag one of these from the pastry case. I tried the Maui Vanilla Bean and it was SO GOOD that I vowed to find and eat another before I left the island. On my way to the airport, I took a little detour (or donut pilgrimage?) to the home of these delectable creations and pulled into a parking spot right in front. When I have really good parking karma I view it as a sign that the universe was saying "Aloha, Trish. You really deserve a treat or two today!" In I went and SWOOON. So many options! I ordered a Maui Vanilla again so that I could really imprint the experience into my flavor memory bank. I also tried the chocolate coffee cake one, and some actually coffee too. I think I'll regularly crave these now that I'm back on the mainland (sigh) but at least I know where to go AS SOON AS I LAND next time I'm in town! Mahalo to all you local Yelpers who are spreading the love and supporting local businesses like this one. Without you, I could not have given them my money or my Yelp love - I was so happy to do both and will definitely do so again at my very next possible chance. Buy local!
