I stayed with my son on Thursday 20 November 2025. The purpose was to attend a book launch by John Feehan (The Silver River of Slieve Bloom), On arrival we met with Marissa who was informative, knowledgeable and very welcoming. The hotel was beautiful, full of charm and character, evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The book launch was a beautiful event, very special. Overall we had a lovely experience of Birr thanks to Marissa and the staff of Dooly's Hotel, and also to Offaly County Council and the Heritage Council who hosted the launch in Kilcormac. A visit to Birr Castle was also something to remember and chrrish. I'm hoping to go back soon.||Brigid Birney

Go on our Killian! He was as sweet as sugar and very helpful — he never let our glasses go empty. He was enthusiastic, kind, and a hardworking young lad. His service was amazing!

Review |Not a great experience . We booked the hotel for 3 nights as business trip as we were exhibitors at the National ploughing 25 . Upon arriving to the hotel we could feel the cold at reception , very under staffed for a busy period with the National ploughing event close by. Upon checking in the rooms were notably cold , The bed was comfortable but the rooms were cold with the draughts that came in around the windows. There was no heating control in the room - it is all controlled by the staff on a switch board which operates all the hotel so we had to ask for heating to be turned on . |We were told the heating was off for the summer but this was a wet evening in September that we stayed in the hotel so we were arriving into a freezing cold hotel & a bedroom with no heat. |We complained to the receptionist to be then told by the receptionist “ yous got a good rate for your stay”! This was not acceptable, regardless of how much we paid for our stay us as residents should have heating on in our rooms or at least a radiator with the options of turning it on without having to constantly ask on our stay to have it turned on downstairs by staff. ||The third night yet again having to complain upon arriving to our rooms to find that there was no heating AGAIN we were told the boiler switch had tripped that’s why there was no heating that night but when I complained it was switched on within 5 mins . Shouldn’t have to complain to have heating. Felt like a lot of excuses were used and everything was to be passed to a maintenance man , this was more like a cost saving measure . |Restaurant also got very cold at night so we left it . ||It wasn't the staffs fault as most were pleasant . It's an ownership/management issue . I understand the hotel is an old building this is why it’s cold but it needs some work, some serious work. Can’t have residents booking in when the rooms are not upto standard with heating issues. No discount was offered on our stay. We won’t return for any of our business stays here.

Dropped in last week for a bit of lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Place looks like it’s had a small makeover fresh flowers as you enter, friendly presentable staff and a nice menu with plenty of choice. Nice quick service just what you need for your lunch break. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Had a very tasty meal here today. The food was delicious. I had chicken wing starter, pizza main and choc fudge cake for dessert, literally can't move now I'm so full lol everything was lovely, fresh and cooked perfectly. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We got a table no problem although it did get quite busy after that. The lounge was very well kept, clean and comfortable.

Yelp
Dominating Emmet Square is the large tidy discreet Georgian building known as Doolys Hotel. Favoured by travellers and market goers, it's always humming with activity. It's a comfortable old shoe of a building, with some modern day polish. Bustling staff efficiently take care of you at reception or steer you into the dining room. There's always a carvery for lunch- which is always well attended. Given its location in the centre of the town square, parking is close at hand in the centre of the square. However, on a busy day these will fill up early in the day. We always stop there when travelling cross county - a handy and comfortable place to stop.
