An Olympian’s Guide to the Best Pastries in Vancouver

"Known for a strong store aesthetic and inventive stuffed pastries; he says, “The aesthetic of their stores is super beautiful. What drew me in was their stuffed pastries. It was the first time I’d heard of someone making a cruffin — a cross between a croissant and a muffin — in Vancouver. A muffin isn’t supposed to be crunchy or flaky; it’s supposed to have that soft texture, whereas a croissant is the opposite. They do a good job of striking that balance. I love places that continue experimenting, so they always release new flavors — that goes for their drinks and their pastries. A tried-and-true flavor for me is their tiramisu croissant — they always kill it.”" - Aman Dosanj

Went here today and the welcoming staff was great!! Nice vibe inside. Food was really good but also a little pricey but standard vancouver prices.

Awesome addition to the North Vancouver neighborhood. If you have had some dope baked goods at Nemesis, it’s still very much worth going to this location as they have many different options. Inside has a really cool aesthetic like a retro diner. Had the queen and the cheddar and jalapeno, both were delicious. Their lattes and coffee drinks are also fantastic.

I'm not sure if Jess?? is the owner, but he personally greeted every customer who came into the cafe, which was really impressive. The variety of baked goods and the fresh coffee were fantastic. Parking can be a bit difficult, but I feel like this place might become one of my favorites👍🏻👍🏻

Really good cookie. Amazing chocolate croissant. Coco whip americano was sweet and would be so tasty if there was a shot of espresso on the drink (it’s only in the foam). Curious to try the pistachio drink (hoping not sweet). Dairy free drink options, but no vegan food/treats. Beautiful inside. Seating limited. 3 parking stalls in underground (not 8). Also, park parking if you’re speedy. Polite staff, friendly.

Dope Bakery is exactly what the name promises—absolutely dope! The moment you walk in, you’re hit with the heavenly smell of fresh-baked goodies that taste even better than they look (and they look incredible). Every bite is clearly made with love and the freshest ingredients. The staff are beyond friendly—warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to be there, which makes you want to stay and chat. Plus, the funky, laid-back atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for hanging out with friends or just treating yourself. A total gem—I’ll be coming back again and again!

Nice sister restaurant of Nemesis Cafe. Came and tried a coffee and pastry. Firstly, loved the displays. I think it’s very excellent that the pastries were displayed as they were. The place is very modern, clean and welcoming for sure. Tried the matcha strawberry drink and it was good. The matcha was quite strong and the strawberry puree was quite tasty. Also tried the mango danish. It was by far a very delicious treat with a nice creamy filling on the inside. I really enjoyed it.

We stopped by Dope Bakery and were genuinely impressed! The Americano and Coco Espresso both exceeded our expectations rich, bold, and perfectly balanced. The cardamom bun was the perfect pairing, soft and fragrant with just the right amount of spice. On top of that, the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome right away. The whole place has such a great vibe, relaxed, and effortlessly cool. Can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
So excited to welcome another new offshoot from the Nemesis folks, this time a new standalone Dope Bakehouse with exclusive offerings like focaccia and handhelds, savouries and strawberry matcha. I think Dope Bakehouse really nails bringing the vibes to all their locations, especially this one where you feel welcomed like one of the homies, instead of a stranger that happened to visit. The place is situated on the corner of a new apartment complex and its square footage is a lot smaller than the other locations, but it makes it a lot cozier and intimate with a minimalist touch. In a way, it feels like Dope Bakehouse/Nemesis Lite in a simplified way, bringing it back to its pastry roots and also redeveloping the menu in a new direction with things like mortadella sandos and spanakopita. All of the hype, none of the complicated fluff. I went late in the day around 3pm during the 3rd day of their opening weekend, so unfortunately, there were not many offerings left. Thankfully, there was still their fantastic focaccia available, made with tomato sauce, pineapple, crunchy cappicola, jalapeno slices and hot honey. I loved how it was pillowy and easy to slice through with their very FANCY cutlery. However, I do wish that this was served warmed up to make it a perfect experience. Can't wait to be back to try more of the new offerings and the sweets!
