Originally a Sofitel (the Accor chain) and built during the first years of the 21st century - along with neighbouring "skyscraper" hotels as the Waldorf Astoria and (nowadays) motelOne.|When it was a Sofitel hotel they held five official stars. Has that changed?|Let's see...||The building is huge with public spaces large as hangars. Clearly constructed with an aim for being a conference facility, the first floor consists mainly of large conference halls and wide corridors to accommodate hundreds of conference participants.|One of these halls is used for serving breakfast. It feels a bit lika a railcar and is not "cosy" in any way. The breakfast selection is however good, even with an "egg station" at hand. You can order your eggs on demand and as you like.||The vast reception area connects to a likewise spacious bar.|The onboard restaurant, Le Faubourg, was once one of the better brasserie-style restaurants in this area of Berlin. In my opinion, not anymore. See my separate review.|There is no spa area or pool. But there is a sauna and fitness station.||All rooms (even the cheapest ones) are very large. There is ample space for both luggage and people. Very nice.|Even if age is being noticeable ( wall-to-wall carpeting remaining, for instance) there is still a feeling of luxury with all the bathroom marble and the fact that you have a floor area exceeding most competitors in this price range.|Spacious bathroom with both a separate shower and a bath tub.||Beds comfortable. Basic amenities in place. AC present and working. Bathrobe and slippers - yes. Nespresso machine and kettle present.||A mini bar reveals to be empty. This is where the previous five stars start to drop out. |Instead, there is a sort of kiosk at the reception where you can buy drinks and snacks and bring to your room. Understandable solution - but far from the Sofitel days.|Cleaning was good and is done every other day. For cleaning every day you have to notice house keeping. Some little things to replace were missed: face tissues and one or other towel.||Breakfast in the room is possible, but to a cost of nearly 60 EUR (for two persons).|Nah...||So, the hardware procuct is still pretty much very good. The soft side is so, so...|At the reception the staff was a little bit "trainee green". Kind and polite, but not fully professional. An incident in the bar where a less fortuned member of our society walked in and started to "converse" with the guests was not stopped by the staff. Suprisingly low attention at the reception desk.||On the whole Dorint is a recommended hotel in this area of Berlin. Near all communications, Zoo, Kaiser Wilhelm gedächtnis-kirche, KaDeWe etc.|The five stars are gone, but I would say they hold a solid four stars.
