"Old-Fashioned Crack Seed with Aloha Aunty Doris is always behind the small counter dressed neatly in her red-and-white palaka shirt, with her hair fixed just so. She knows everybody and your madahs and fadahs and all da keeds too around here. Stop in for a taste of her old-fashioned crack seeds all lined up neatly on the shelf. Carry the jar over to the counter and talk story with Aunty as she spoons out your selection of sour cherry, football, olive seed, pickled ginger, li-hing mui, prune mui, dried lemon or wet seed. Chances are while you wait you'll experience a "taste" of local color too. Eh no eat all da sweet sour cherry. I gotta get my fix!"

Google
A local style convenience store located above Kona town on a scenic quiet road. Will remind you of what Hawaii was like 50 years ago. Aloha spoken here.

I forgot to bring our drinks on our day trip. I googled the nearest store and this is what came up. I was on highway 11 and this literally brought me up WAAAY into the hills. Beautiful view on the way back down. Doris has been in business 70 plus years. So she is a legend in these parts. Good for her! I'm glad that i got to contribute to a woman's business. At first i thought the prices were going to be really expensive but they were not. She's got a little bit of everything. Nice to meet you Doris!

Yelp
Visited Doris Place this past June during our family trip to the Big Island. We visited Holualoa during our trip to pay respects at a local cemetery there. Afterwards we stopped by a pleasant mom and pop small store called Doris. According to my wife's aunt, the store is named after Doris (who we also visited) who has run the store through many generations (she has recently retired). If you are in the area I recommend visiting Doris Place in a small little town called Holualoa. You will get good local community store vibes there.

Yelp
One of the last of the small stores left on Holualoa. Auntie Doris has run it since the 1940s and she is a community icon. Her small store has everything from cereal, can goods, drinks, ice cream, crack seed, bread, etc. Definitely try the pickled fruits and seeds she offers such as li Hing mui, prune mui or dried mango! Not many places offer these fresh and in great selection any more

Yelp
Great little family run store. Stopped their on my vacation and met Doris, the owner. She was really sweet and friendly. We got a few drinks, snacks, some beer, and tried some of the crack seeds that she is known for... AMAZING. I'll definitely try more on my next visit to this little hidden gem.

Yelp
Doris Place is a great place to stop and shop! Stop by to see a cute little store in a small little town! Her store carries canned goods, fresh bread, sodas, ice cream and a wide selection of ice cold beers and a bigger variety of cracked seeds, although all are not necessarily cracked seeds. My kids like the li hing mui watermelon, and I like the li hing mui mango! The owner, Aunty Doris, is a nice lady with a big heart, and Uncle Ray is funny and super nice, too! Great people...great store! Great landmark, too!

Yelp
We went to Doris Place today looking for cracked seeds to take back to the mainland. We hit the jackpot! This place has a good selection of cracked seeds. Got the mango lihimui and crystal ginger...so ono! Aunty Doris is so adorable she is one of the old generation of this historical Holualoa area. She's been working for 71 years! You won't find to many of this kind of old Hawaii stores in existence today.
