"...or the impossibly creamy piping hot clam chowder from Dorn’s, with some crab cocktail."

My husband and I had an amazing dinner here celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary. The staff was friendly and on top of everything, the atmosphere was nice but nothing too stuffy or fancy. It’s overlooking the water and iconic Morro Bay Rock, with outdoor patio seating and an abundance of window views from inside. There’s also a full bar, and the cocktail and wine list has a nice variety. We had the calamari appetizer which was perfectly and lightly battered. It came with what seemed like house-made Cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. The freshness really makes a difference. For main courses, I had the scallops and my husband had the clam linguine. It’s hard to say which one I liked better! The portions were generous and everything was so delicious. I was shocked at how many clams were in the linguine dish! To finish, they gave us a celebratory Chocolate Mousse, also freshly made in house, and it was literally the perfect way to end the meal - so light and fluffy, but full of flavor! This is definitely our new favorite spot when we’re in town. The breakfast and lunch menus look great online too.

Dorn’s: A Classy Coastal Brunch with a View to Match 🍳🌊 Perched above Morro Bay, Dorn’s delivers a dining experience that feels like being on the deck of a cruise ship—except this time, you're looking out to sea, with stunning views of Morro Rock and the iconic three stacks. The elevated location gives you a panoramic glimpse of the entire bay, and it sets the stage for a refined, coastal brunch experience. Well-Staffed & Well-Run 🚶‍♂️🍽️ We were seated almost immediately—just a 3-minute wait despite how full the restaurant was—and our food hit the table in under 15 minutes. With 12 to 15 staff members circulating throughout, the place ran like clockwork. It’s clear the owners have put thoughtful intention into creating a higher-end yet approachable atmosphere. Brunch, Cocktails & Coastal Comfort 🍸🥓 We came for brunch and cocktails, and I ordered my go-to: eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was flavorful and well-balanced, though the eggs were a touch more cooked than I prefer and the potatoes could have used a bit more warmth. That said, everything was still delicious, and the experience as a whole made up for those minor details. The Verdict? Classy Attempt Accomplished ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the scenic views to the well-orchestrated service, Dorn’s delivered on its promise of a coastal fine dining experience. If you're in Morro Bay and looking for a brunch spot that feels just a touch more special, this one sails ahead of the rest.

It is quite pricey compared to other brunch places I have reviewed. But the view of the rock rocks! Pancake is superb Bacon is not quite consistent. Last week was crispy just like what I asked for, this time is not. But it comes in 4 pieces compared to just 2. The egg was great! $23 including coffee. Photos attached are taken a week apart.

Amazing fish! We ordered the Patrale sole and snapper. Great views of Morro Rock and the patio is dog friendly.

Google
The best breakfast in Morro bay! Their waffle is the perfect size and crunchiness. Their bacon is phenomenal, the fresh orange juice is my favorite but they have really good mimosas too. Their kids menu prices are incredible for the portion sizes and all the waitstaff is super on top of it. My husband loves the lox and bagel. There is usually a wait but it’s well worth the wait.

We visited Dorn's Café for breakfast and had a mixed experience, though overall it was positive! First Visit: We were seated right away, which was a great start. The service stood out as exceptional—every employee, from bussers to servers to runners, was incredibly attentive. Dirty plates, empty glasses, or unattended tables simply didn’t exist. Everyone worked together seamlessly, which created a welcoming and efficient atmosphere. The food itself was good, with massive portions. However, the pancakes didn’t live up to the hype. They were advertised as an “80-year-old recipe,” but they had a grainy texture and weren’t sweet or enjoyable. Everything else we ordered, though, was satisfying. Second Visit: We loved the service so much on our first visit that we came back the next morning. The food was again decent, but unfortunately, the service wasn’t as stellar this time, likely due to having a different server. As for the food, the Denver omelet my partner ordered was disappointing—the green bell peppers were undercooked and still raw, which threw off the dish. I stuck to a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, country potatoes, and sourdough toast. While the bacon was fantastic—thick, flavorful, and generously portioned—the country potatoes weren’t as great as I’d hoped. I wish I had tried the hashbrowns instead. Final Thoughts: Despite some inconsistencies, we’d still recommend Dorn’s Café for a visit to Morro Bay. The service (on the first visit) was top-notch, and most of the food was enjoyable. Just be mindful of specific dishes like the pancakes or the Denver omelet, and if you’re in the mood for potatoes, maybe go for the hashbrowns!

The omellete with Portuguese sausage was good, fresh veggies. Service was good. Fresh squeezed orange juice was good. By far the best thing I had was the buttermilk pancakes. Soft, buttery, delicious. Highly recommend. Views of the bay made the already great breakfast even better.

Google
Experience was great! Seating was full so we sat at the bar. Which I prefer. The conversations with people are part of that great experience. Bar tender very good and some strong drinks, we like very much. We had the oyster on the half and the swordfish. Best swordfish I have ever had. Definitely a must go to place.

Yelp
Excellent dining experience!! Everything was great, food, service, dining atmosphere. We had a group of five, no wait time and we were seated with beautiful ocean view. I decided on the special, the three fish taco combo with rice, good choice, the tacos were very good and the presentation was lovely. We decided on dessert, I shared the chocolate mousse with my husband, that was very tasty! Great dining experience!!

Yelp
We had breakfast at Dorn's twice. The seafood omelet was packed full of crab and shrimp and fish. Just perfect. The eggs and potatoes were very good too.

Yelp
Visited here as it was one of the only places open at 745pm for dinner. Had a 25 minute wait as the amount of people coming here was steady. We got an indoor seat along the windows. We got bread, menus and water and then waited 20 minutes to get our order taken. I got my beer and still had to wait to submit our food order. I noticed other people were getting more attentive service around us. We finally got a different waitress, thank goodness, to attend to us and finally ordered our food. Wife ordered the fried prawns which were delicious. The breading was barely tasted and added immensely to the great flavor. I had the Dungeness Crab cocktail which was okay. Thought about returning for breakfast but the evening experience may have put a damper on returning and I wanted to patronize a different restaurant while here.

Hosia T.

Yelp
A community staple for years, breakfast here consistently awesome. I always opt for some Buckwheat pancakes- (if you know, you know). Seems like everyone is always ordering Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's; however, I haven't had one yet. The omelets are great, and I often go for the linguica and eggs. The huevos rancheros are huge and come with fresh fruit! Highly recommend...especially since they throw in such a great view for free! If you're lucky, you can sit in the patio Oceanside .

Yelp
We were in town visiting my grandparents and wanted to go somewhere good for my brother's birthday. They had mentioned Dorn's but were worried we'd have to wait a long time to get a table. We decided to go at 4:30pm but were pleasantly surprised to get a table right away, considering it was a Sunday of a holiday weekend. We were seated at the window which was really nice--the views are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be there through sunset. For food, we were fully obsessed with the warm sourdough bread & butter. Seriously I could have eaten just that. I got a cup of clam chowder because we were told it was legendary and it really was: perfectly creamy and lots of clams. Honestly I should have stopped there, but I was craving fish so went with the halibut, mashed potatoes and veggies. The fish was slightly overcooked and I felt like the mashed potatoes could have been creamier. But all in all it was good and I just think I would go with a different entree next time.

Kimberly D.

Yelp
This was an amazing candlelit atmosphere that served up casual smiles and good food. The warm sourdough bread was served with real butter and it melted in my mouth. Who said man can not live by bread alone? Lol For my meal I choose the sautéed scallops with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. The scallops were cooked perfectly with capers and to garlicky perfection. I finished my meal with a crème brûlée and I wasn't disappointed. It cracked open to reveal a creamy lite custard. Service was professional, prompt and friendly. I definitely recommend this place.

Elle M.

Yelp
I love going to breakfast here any time I visit Morro Bay. Dinner is also nice but breakfast is my favorite

Stan A.

Yelp
Just had a simple bowl of clam chowder. Nothing fancy, but the service (Hanna at the bar) was amazing!

Kristin R.

Yelp
Ate here for lunch on the patio. We did not have our dogs but it was obvious dogs are allowed on the patio. Great service. We had Nancy's other salad and a calamari sandwich substituting a side salad for fries. The other salad was very good. The only complaint I had is I asked the waitress if it had Bay shrimp and she said yes. When it arrived, the shrimp were not bay shrimp. They were really good but not bay shrimp, better. However , the waitress should know the items on the menu. Sandwich was good too. If I had to choose one to recommend, I would choose Nancy's other salad. Also, bread was served with lunch. And it was delicious.

Yelp
What a fantastic dinner! The remodeled booths were so comfortable. My rare tuna was perfectly cooked. The service was exceptional. I was there with house guests and we just had a delightful evening. I will return!

Michael J.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant and location, it's casual upscale and comfortable and all the portions were generous. The patio has a great view. Highly recommend the seafood kebab with swordfish, salmon, shrimp & scallops! There are a number of really great choices! Service and staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Note: it looks like more locals go here than tourists.

Hope B.

Yelp
Second time here! Both times were amazing. This time I had the fish with curry sauce. OMG...the curry was the best. It wasn't spicy. Instead it was yummy, well balanced in flavor and something that I wanted more. My wife ordered the macadamia crusted fish. The fish was soft and tender and well seasoned rhetorical macadamia was fresh and added a wonderful texture. We sat by the window so we had a great view of the main strip and Morro rock. Our server was also exceptional. She was friendly, and attentive. There was if odd-street and in street parking so we literally walked one minute. We highly recommend!

Juliette N.

Yelp
By far one of the best places in Morro Bay, for a special meal. Not overly chichi in atmosphere, pricey without being stratospheric, and excellent food. Mostly seafood is what I've tried, because seafood :-). All of it worth the trip, fresh and varied to reflect the season, with thoughtful sides. Great views and efficient service. The only drawback is no reservation, so you can expect a good wait for most meals. But you can hang out at the bar if you're into that, or look out over the inlet outside if not.

Chris C.

Yelp
Dorn's is a classic seaside restaurant. Awesome food- always fresh with ample portions. Crafted cocktails. Service has been outstanding at each vist. Then you have the incredible views of Morro Rock and the Pacific! Try to be there for sunset...

Alex H.

Yelp
Really enjoy this place - and the views are just magnificent! They have an extensive outdoor dining area where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Morro bay rock and the rest of Morro Bay. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly and hospitable! Their clam chowder is delicious and one of the best I've ever had! The bread and butter is also delicious and comes out nice and warm (just like it's meant to be!). For entrees, we ordered the chicken piccata and the scallop sautee. The chicken was a little overcooked and the scallop sautee was pretty basic, so I'd overall I'd give Dorn's 4 vs 5 stars. We will definitely come back again soon to try more on the menu though so I will report back accordingly. Overall, a great spot to even just grab some drinks and appetizers with friends/family while enjoying the amazing Morro Bay views!

Ruthie S.

Yelp
Great service. Beautiful views. No fancy coffee but it was good. My daughter and I have breakfast and split the bill. $37 each. So pricey but amazing view of the Rock and fancy booths and restaurant.

Sammie A.

Yelp
Was overall pretty disappointed. Points for the dog friendly patio, awesome views, and good (but not great) server. They were out of most of the dishes I would have selected and the food was alright to not so good. Chicken parmesean was dry and not super flavorful, scallops and shrimp scampi were both drowning in butter. Rice pilaf was mid at best and green beans were oily as well. The only thing that made the food okay was that I slammed one their margaritas and needed some food asap. Extra star given for the picture of Ronlad and Nancy Reagan and the beautiful sunset. 4.5/10, go with low expectations on a clear evening for maybe an appetizer and a bottle of wine.

Calling You Out B.

Yelp
Service was ok. The hostess was about as bland as the food. The ambiance was very nice. Great view unfortunately the food was kind of bland. Eggs Benedict didn't have much flavor. The egg was overcooked but had more taste than the hollandaise. The potatoes and fruit were good. The Bloody Mary was average. A little pricy for what the food is worth. Ended up getting a better Eggs Benedict a few blocks away at Carla's for almost half the price.

Polyphemus S.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a little kid. Atmosphere is great to an upscale clientele. Kids menus are available but it's not a restaurant for loud children or loud parties

Jenna T.

Yelp
The best pancakes I've had. They were lighter than normal but still fluffy. The Huevos Rancheros was different from others I've had. The tortillas weren't weren't crispy and just on the side. There were lots of beans more than anything else. The omelet description said ground beef, but it was more onions than anything else. Aside from the pancakes, view, and service, everything else was meh. I'm not sure if it truly is 4 stars in my book, maybe a 3.5.

Clayton D.

Yelp
Had the sea food omelet a couple of shrimp and lots of mushrooms it was not good for 30 they should be ashamed

Tawny Y.

Yelp
I will start by saying that service was amazing! I think our waitress's name is Sonia (it says on the receipt). She was very sweet, so I could give her a 5 alone. However, I honestly did not care for the food. It wasn't disgusting, but it wasn't good. I was disappointed. We ordered the half dozen oysters, which didn't leave an impression at all. The cocktail sauce with the horseradish was way too spicy. The horseradish was overwhelming. Then, when I ate the oysters without it, it was underwhelming. We also ordered the fish (without the chips) + clam chowder combo. I didn't care for the fish. It was bland. The chowder was just okay. We ordered fried artichoke appetizers. I didn't like the yellow mustard condiment it came with. The artichoke had a thick batter casing, which I tend to not like. I personally liked it better with the cocktail sauce. Lastly, we had steamed clams. The clams were overcooked, and the white wine was very evident. It wasn't garlicky and as buttery as I had hoped. Ambiance is a bit touristy. It's the first restaurant from the block, so many people decide to go here. So crowds build up waiting for a spot. The great thing is the wait isn't long at all. My sister and I waited 30 minutes after spontaneously decided to go there. They have a bar with an extremely moody and snappy bartender named Hilary. If I didn't know any better, she didn't like who she was serving and was rude to them and left the drink where she made it with no announcement and walked away. Yet she was very sweet to someone else, handed them their drink, and said thank you. The rest of the restaurant feels like a family restaurant indoors and very relaxing on the outdoor patio area. I don't plan on coming back ever again. Sorry. I was excited, but the outcome fell short of my expectations.

S H.

Yelp
Overrated, overpriced and poor apathetic service. Poor quality steak (bleeding red spots/arteries), very fishy swordfish, undercooked soggy bread. View was nice.

Eriko P.

Yelp
Dorn' is our all time favorite restaurant in Morro Bay. We have celebrated our Anniversary and Birthdays here. The food is delicious. My husband ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked to his liking. This time he missed the potato gratin that usually comes with dinner and the boiled potatoes were okay. I ordered the locally caught snapper with rice pilaf and veggies. I asked them to broil it and add a lemon caper sauce which was perfect. The staff here are always friendly, polite and attentive. I will always return to Dorn's whenever we are in town.

Louie M.

Yelp
Food is most consistent well prepared seafood restaurant in town. Candy my server was awesome and took care of all my requests. Charming contemporary seafood shanty comfortably renovated. And the carrot cake is most delicious and abundant cream cheese icing

Jenny R.

Yelp
Made a pit stop here before heading to Carmel for a bite to eat. Was really exited to take my sister here for her bday trip. Food was ok not as good as I remembered. Got the fish and chips, oysters, and clam chowder. Everything needed some seasoning or salt? Bland which made everything mediocre. Sonia our waitress gets 5+ for service, so bubble so engaged and was very helpful in making suggestions and accommodated with a smile. But this needs to be addressed!!! While waiting to be seated I decided to get a drink at the bar. The bartender was name Hilary according to my receipt. Blond pony tail not very friendly but I didn't think much of it. As I was waiting for her to serve me. I asked if I could order with her and she said it would be awhile. I said ok (which it really wasn't a long wait so not sure why she even stated that). She was interacting with another worker cursing and using the f bomb as she was speaking to them complaining about something. She was making some interesting drinks so I asked her what they were. Very short said they were rainbow fizz. I didn't want to ask what was in them because I felt she would lash out. I told her I wanted a Michelada and she asked what kind of beer and I asked if she had Pacifico? She said no.. then I asked what selection she had and she said Modelo and no other choices. So why ask me what kind of beer if you only had one choice and was there only one choice?? Weird.. she told me the total and I gave her my card and she literally walked away after charging me and left my drink on the bar pad where she made it. No handing it to me and a thank you! The rudest server I have encountered in a long time. As I walked out from my meal pass the bar to leave, I saw her hand someone their drink and say thank you to them.. is she racist?! Don't like women?! But I definitely got a "Hilary special" in the worse way.

Jenna C.

Yelp
They squeezed us in a half hour before closing and we were a party of 9. That is a big deal. Ambiance was comfortable and pretty and if it had been during the day the day.The food was excellent and the severs were top-notch. I really enjoyed my clam chowder and seafood combination. Everything was delicious and well-cooked. My SIL said his burger was dry but you don't go to a seafood place for a burger so I kind of feel that is on him. Overall great experience and we will definitely be back.

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Opened in 1942, Dorn's is a staple in Morro Bay. We were recommended here for their breakfast, which is delicious! Their seafood omelet is incredible. Generous portions - the omelet was positively packed with fresh crab, shrimp, and mushrooms. I substituted in a side of their pancakes - also super tasty, and a great compliment to the omelet. I only paid $23 for this meal - while it might seem a bit more expensive for breakfast, consider how much food I got, the quality of it, and how delicious it was, great price for breakfast! Grab a window seat or sit outside, and you'll get a beautiful view. Service is efficient, and the staff are friendly. It's a quick and easy walk down to the shops and the water if you want to explore a bit afterwards. Highly recommend stopping here for a delicious breakfast experience.

Chris S.

Yelp
Took another trip to Morro Bay this year. The girlfriend and I ate at Dorn's for 5 meals ... 4 dinners and 1 breakfast. That should tell you all you really need to know. Amazing service, beautiful views, delicious food and an amazingly clean place.

Muriel T.

Yelp
Their breakfast made me eat more than I needed. The corned beef hash was cooked perfectly, the pancakes were fluffy, and the potatoes were seasoned just right. Sonia was one of the friendliest people we ever met and super attentive. We sat indoor on the corner overlooking the bay and it was nice!

Di R.

Yelp
We went with friends & everyone loved what they got. We ate outside, on a beautiful day! The food was delicious, the service was stellar! I got the cob salad. & everyone was jealous when they saw it.

Rose A.

Yelp
Five of us went to dinner to celebrate my son's birthday. The view is amazing. Excellent food and service. We've been for breakfast and lunch before but this was our first time for dinner.

Bruce O.

Yelp
Dorn's Original Breakers Cafe, Morro Bay, CA, April 5, 2024 We came into Dorn's after seeing positive reviews on Yelp. It's a nice restaurant that is higher up than the rest of the restaurants in this area. It gives you a great view of the rock and surrounding area below. We arrived right around noon and they were fairly packed. We got on the waiting list and were seated about five minutes later. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were given the option to order breakfast, but we chose to do lunch instead. Our server's name was Ashley. She was very quick to get our drink orders as well as our food order. They have a few specially drinks on the menu including a bloody Mary as well as mimosas. I ordered the Bloody Mary. My wife got a glass of Shadow Ranch Chardonnay. Both drinks were very good. I ordered Nancy's house salad and my wife ordered the seafood salad. Nancy's house salad came with Romain lettuce, nice big chunks of avocado, nice crumbles of blue cheese, and a very tasty Nancy vinaigrette salad dressing. As we waited for our food order to come out, they brought us some nice warm sourdough bread with a massive ball of whipped butter. That was really good! Both of our meals were delicious and more than enough to fill us up.

Julie T.

Yelp
We were a large party of senior citizens, many with assistive device's. Our server, Sonya, was patient, pleasant and professional. Food was out fast, very tasty and excellent service. We'll be back!

Linda T.

Yelp
The view is amazing. We stopped in for their margarita which was perfect blend of sour and sweet and booze! The sourdough bread is yummy. The clam chowder was ok. I wouldn't order it again. The sandwiches are large and delicious. I really like the shrimp taco. But what I LOVE is the spicy sauce. I think they make it in house. I can eat that on anything.

Ellen C.

Yelp
Everything went well. It was great atmosphere, with an amazing view. was so nice. The food was absolutely incredible and portions were so large that in one of our meals could've been split between two people. I think the oatmeal could've been split between the three of us. The roasted red potatoes that came with breakfast beautiful rustic, and the preparation was perfect. My spinach omelette was so big. I could only eat half of it. My son Jon ordered the seafood omelette, which had shrimp and dungess crab and lobster? He ate every bit of that almond and then I watched him pick up every tiny shred of crab. He did not miss one bit!! my husband and I have never seen him clean his plate like that. We really enjoyed our breakfast. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Linda B.

Yelp
We recently had a celebration dinner at Dorn's. I would give the view, ambience and service a 5 star. However, the kitchen needs to pay more attention to the food: the steak was good and hot but the two side dishes (green beans & red potatoes) were luke warm to even cool in spots. My husband's blackened fish was too salty for him and his side dishes were likewise luke/cool. I do not think we will be back.

Kristine L.

Yelp
Stopped in at 7:30pm for a late dinner. Artichoke heart appetizer and Ahi appetizer were excellent! Hot sourdough bread was perfect. Clam chowder soup and shrimp Louie salad were amazing. View would have been as great as the food but it was dark. Will definitely be making the trip back to Morro Bay to eat here

Olga C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, a fantastic view and decent prices makes it worth it. Friendly staff and today's visit

Tj S.

Yelp
I'm going to have to say that Dorn's is, in my opinion the best restaurant in Morro Bay. Dorn's hasn't changed in the last 20 years that we have been going there. I was there on 9-11-24 thru 9-14-24. I ate a couple of breakfasts there, 2 lunches and 1 dinner. All were excellent. The wait staff is excellent and everything I ordered was cooked perfectly. I know my review sounds like either I work there, know somebody, or own the place, but honestly I am not any of those. To be honest, the last time I was there before this visit was 10 years ago. Everything, and I mean everything was just as good as then, just more expensive. (side note: be careful how you vote). So, politics aside... try Dorn's if you haven't and have the chance. I just wish I could find a place like this in Sonoma where I live.... but, not to be.

Linda R.

Yelp
We drove into Morro Bay late at night and woke up to an adorable fishing village. We received a recommendation for Dorn's and were able to walk from our hotel. They had outdoor seating with a view of the water and indoor seating next to large windows that were spotless. The service was great. We were in a hurry to meet our next appointment and were very accommodating. I ordered the delicious steel cut oatmeal that was served with raisins, brown sugar, and whole milk with a side of bacon. It was very filling, just what I needed before our planned hikes.

Rod L.

Yelp
We had dinner here last night and found most of our food was very good. We had calamari, chowder, oysters and a seafood stuffed tomato salad. The service was excellent albeit no pepper on the table. Sourdough bread excellent but should be served with unsalted butter. Our review is with the seafood stuffed tomato, the shrimp and flaked crab was so sparse and at over $20.00 they should have done better. The mayonnaise dressing was overpowering and in need of seasoning. The plate was a mixture of greens with a pile of shredded carrots and some rough cut cukes! The kitchen crew should do better! We also didn't like the $2.50 surcharge. Entrees priced at over 18.00-30.00 shouldn't need a surcharge, for that we won't return.

Taylor W.

Yelp
Dorn's has a strong reputation and it's very nice. Can't beat the views. I've gotten the seafood omelet and eggs Benedict, both good but not outstanding. Food not hot enough and takes awhile. Absent service. I just think this place could be better.

Cecilia C.

Yelp
Lovely view and good food. Been here twice now, once for breakfast and recently for dinner. Our appetizer seemed to take a very long time to arrive but once it arrived the pace picked up. Would love it if they took down umbrellas not being used to improve the view of window seats.

Terry C.

Yelp
Dorn's is a local institution that achieves the mixture of ambience and great food. The ambience is a nice, casual understated elegance with magnificent views. The restaurant was under renovation for awhile, and it's good to have them back. The new marvelous entrance with the extension of the bar and extra window table seating welcomes diners into a cozy and comfortable interior with wood seating and shiny brass odornments throughout. Artwork with a nautical theme and sailing ship models are displayed. Perched upon a bluff, the restaurant has an absolutely captivating view of the Embarcadero, Morro Rock and the Harbor. The view invites patrons to sit and relax, and just let Dorn's take care of you. Outdoor seating is an option to dine with the sea air permeating one's senses, and become one with the sounds of nature. For the cool days and nights typical in Morro Bay, patio heaters are distributed throughout the wraparound patio. Shortly after being seated for lunch, warm, fresh sourdough bread was delivered with chilled butter cubes, and we were invited to select an appetizer or cocktail. Our server, Elizabeth, was pleasant and knowledeable regarding their menu. Upon her suggestion, we tried the swordfish. It was a nice size portion and was quite flavorful with a fluffy, moist meat inside. We don't see a Sardine Sandwich offered in many places, so I decided to try one here. It was nicely presented as an open-faced sandwich with mayo and green onions on very fresh, spongy rye bread. The plate had accompaniments of whole leaf lettuce, tomato, red onion and a pickle spear. The lunch sandwiches and fresh fish entrees are served with fries, or mixed vegetables, broccoli or a green salad can be substituted for the fries. One of us opted for the green salad while the other had the fries. The ranch dressing was a bit thin and runny, but had a decent flavor. The fries crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Dorn's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. They do not take reservations, but have a comfortable benched waiting area overlooking their fantastic view of Morro Bay.

Yelp
We sat outside on the upper deck and it was nice to look out over the water. It was a little chilly, but they had cute fire pits with briquets set into the tables. The clam chowder was very good. I had the Seafood Omelette which was kind of plain, like something I would make at home.

Yelp
Based upon other reviews, we stopped in for breakfast. The restaurant is well appointed, staff were friendly and attentive, restrooms clean. However, the omelettes were extremely disappointing. The egg of the omelette was as thin as a crepe. My omelette was floating in grease and after about 6 bites, I just could not bring another bite of the greasy crepe like egg into my system. We were staying in Morro Bay for 3 nights, and we found other places for breakfast. It was so bad that we didn't even want to try dinner there. We did find a great breakfast in Cambria - Linn's Restaurant. Omelets are supposed to be fluffy, not paper thin like a crepe.

Yelp
Been stopping at Dorn's the last 50 years when in Morro Bay. Last Friday at 6 pm they seated my wife and I looking into the BRIGHT setting Sun. This was my fault as I should have requested another seat. My wife didn't want me to make a fuss so we sat down. We don't eat the bread or potatoes so right off the bat half the meal is missing. I ordered the snapper it came with under cooked green beans that I didn't eat. Wife ordered something else and hers was fine. I had water and the wife had ice tea. Cost $87 + $20 tip. Expensive and not enjoyable. I suggested to the manager they not seat folks looking into the Sun. He said nothing. Last time at Dorn's.
