This is my second stay at the hotel and both times have been marvellous experiences. Both rooms I've been in were well appointed and very comfortable. The hotel itself is stunning from the outside and packed with original character and rugged sophistication inside. The food was top notch (I had breakfast and dinner on both occasions) and the selection of drinks, especially the whisky, is a notch higher again. All that being said, it's the people working in the team that really make, break, or create the experience wherever you stay and the team here, across all departments, have been second to none during both of my stays. The perfect balance between being helpful, knowledgeable & friendly and, when needed, leaving you to it. Not everywhere strikes this balance so well.||Couldn't fault a thing. Would (and will) stay again.

Our stay here was excellent and it is in a castle (need I say more). The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the staff was all extremely friendly & helpful, and the restaurant was delicious. Dinner at the restaurant was busy, be sure to book ahead. And finally, the whiskey selection was exceptional. We found several that we had long search for and finally had a chance the sample. The bar tender was very knowledgeable and helped us select a few we had never heard of but instantly liked.

Lovely place and good value. Great location and fab beach walks with our dog. Evening food was very good but breakfast was a little lacking and self service with just egg and bacon on offer, no sausages, mushrooms etc etc! Staff were friendly.

We stayed at Dornoch Castle for three nights as we were attending a wedding. Firstly we had no running hot water for a shower after a 7.5hr drive, we reported immediately but the following morning it was still cold! The room was subsidised as the bride had booked a number of rooms, but it was still £206 per night which is very over priced for what you get. The food was just about average. The breakfast has a reasonable choice but no service or full Scottish available. You could have fried eggs and bacon and that was the hot breakfast choice nothing else. Meat, cheese, fruit, yoghurt and cereal was available. This is poor value for money. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Very overpriced for the quality and standard of rooms. Coining in because it's on the NC 500 route. Walls are paper thin and standard of linens and towels very poor. Bathroom had black mould and the room smelled because it needed a deep clean of the carpet and throws and cushions needed laundered. The bedside table wasn't cleaned either and there was a coffee spill on the skirting and carpet that hadn't been cleaned. Below the standard I expected for the price of the room The whole back extension of garden rooms avoid unless you want no sleep. If you have booked already I highly recommend earplugs otherwise it could be a hell of a night for you hearing everything going on in adjacent rooms

Annex room 23 one side of mattress was collapsed. Bottle of prosecco ordered before meal ordered and twice more requested never arrived after 35 mins so then cancelled. Venison main course tasty but almost cold. None of the staff seemed bothered. Had considered staying 2 nights but left after 1 due to poor service. Breakfast was good.

Not quite what we expected as the castle is in the centre of the village, but the welcome was very warm and friendly and we had a lovely room overlooking the garden. Everything was very clean, the bed comfy, and great food to boot. The wee dram of whiskey on arrival was a lovely touch.||We had a walk down to the beach in the evening, and around the village the next day which is charming.||Thank you for a lovely stay.

What trip to Scotland would be complete without staying in a castle?! This one certainly fits the bill. Beautiful building, spacious room and bathroom, comfortable bed, great room amenities, welcoming and accommodating staff, and a dram of Scotch (distilled in house!) was icing on the cake. And breakfast was fantastic.
