We started our meal at Copra with three appetizers: Rasam Puri, Shrimp Vennai Roast, and Slow-Cooked Octopus. The Rasam Puri was a fun and creative take on pani puri, using a passion fruit base that gave it a unique, tangy flavor. I thought it was a great twist on a classic dish and really delicious. The Shrimp Vennai Roast, which was recommended by the chef, was my favorite appetizer. The spices were bold and flavorful, and the dish was perfectly cooked. On the other hand, the Slow-Cooked Octopus didn't impress me. The texture was inconsistent--some parts were too chewy, while others were crunchy--which made it hard to enjoy fully.
For our main dishes, we ordered the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Southern Kerala Shrimp Mango Curry with Egg Appam. The Masala Dosa was my partner's favorite. It came with three chutneys and a sambar that really brought out the flavors of the dosa. If you've never tried dosa before, this dish is a great introduction because the different dips make it really exciting to eat. The Shrimp Mango Curry was my favorite dish of the night. The curry was flavorful and well-spiced without being too spicy, so it's perfect for people who aren't used to a lot of heat but still love rich flavors. The egg appam was a nice addition, but it didn't add much to the dish. Still, the curry itself was so good that I highly recommend ordering it.
We also tried a non-alcoholic drink called Salty City, which reminded me of a lassi because of its creamy coconut yogurt base. It was refreshing, but I recommend stirring it well before drinking since the spices and black garlic can settle at the bottom and become too strong if you don't mix it.
For dessert, we chose Watalappan and God's Own Coconut Version. The Watalappan wasn't my favorite. It had a texture like flan but with a very strong and concentrated flavor. Adding the butterscotch cream helped balance it, but overall, I found it too heavy to really enjoy. The God's Own Coconut Version, however, was fantastic. It was light, refreshing, and creative, with coconut water crystals, candied basmati puffs, sabja seeds, and mango. This dessert was definitely the highlight and a perfect way to end the meal.
The atmosphere was bustling and very lively. It's a social space with a lot of energy, making it feel less like traditional fine dining and more like a casual yet elevated experience. We sat on the second floor, where the noise level was high but added to the vibrant atmosphere. Despite the busyness, the service was excellent. Our servers were attentive, regularly checking in and ensuring we had everything we needed. The food came out on time, and we felt well taken care of throughout the meal.
Overall, Copra was a great experience with lots of bold and exciting flavors. While some dishes didn't stand out, others--like the Shrimp Vennai Roast, Shrimp Mango Curry, and God's Own Coconut Version--made the visit absolutely worth it.
