Google
Great neighborhood bar. Tons of TVs if you’re looking for a game they’ll have it. Friendly staff and patrons. Really nice patio. Food was good too. Definitely recommend this bar, especially for NFL Sunday

Gregg McAllister

Google
Nice neighborhood bar. Check it out. Good canned beer selection, a few good tap options, and decent mixed drinks.

Reuben Reyes

Google
Nice local bar with TVs playing sports. Very relaxing environment. Bartender was good. Went on a Wednesday and only a few people were there.

Gregory Matthews

Google
I had a beer here once with the guy who was the best man in my wedding.

Ari A

Google
Very cool Halloween decorations are up! Nice and chill cash only bar.

Google
service here has been very good and it's a very very comfortable vibe. the atmosphere is like a low key sports bar - not quite dive like described in some reviews. the taps have a decent selection at good prices. probably wouldn't show up with a cocktail dinner but would love to see a cocktail on draft - could probably get my cocktail people in there if they added that. backdoor pseudo patio - but I've only been there January - April so maybe they add furniture? all else, will definitely return.

Charles Baxter

Google
DO NOT ORDER ANY COCKTAILS HERE. YOU WILL BE ROBBED. The bartender charged me 40 bucks for two old fashions with mid-tier whiskey. Without a drinks menu and only accepting cash, I guess you can get away with almost anything - also the bartender was clearly drunk and just unprofessional. Please beware don’t get robbed like I did.

Google
loved this place before my negative experience and i will never go back. sharing my experience this man working named “tommy” was rather not fond of me and my homosexual friend. was not kind to me and my friend who are local and FREQUENT patrons of the establishment. disappointed in the faculty, and the ownership.

Murphy

Yelp
Be warned-- this is a very conservative bar. I went here looking for a nice neighborhood place to come home to.. that was not a possibility at The Double Bubble, as a woman, especially not as a woman with liberal ideals. It is a conservative space. Don't go here

Yelp
Wonderful, local dive bar in the heart of Edgewater. The inside is tight and cozy, while they have a pretty spacious back patio when the weather is just perfect. Employees are kind, patrons are fun and welcoming. Honestly, you can't go wrong at this place! Make sure to stop on in if you are in the are, but just a reminder, it is cash only! They do have an ATM on site in case you forget.

Yelp
Cheap and relaxing atmosphere in a dive bar. Double Bubble is one of the affordable places to hang around Edgewater. It has a basic beer and liquor selection. A lot cleaner than expected and good place to watch a game. The bar looks like an old school hangout with some interesting or eccentric regulars. Basic stuff for a bar. It doesn't have a huge selection of beer and liquor. The prices are the good thing. It's about $6 for a cocktail. Jukebox has a more interesting selection. Good place for those who like to chat and complain. The food menu is basically nonexistent but there's a few things. It's $1 for bags of chips. They often have people ordering stuff like pizza to be delivered for a game party. Good if not great bar. It's like going to someone's basement or garage to hang out. These each involve guys getting together to watch sports while they get wasted.

Larry B.

Yelp
Fairly priced and clean neighborhood bar. I like playing on the dart machine with my friends here. They have a good burger and nice bar staff too!

Lloyd S.

Yelp
I met a friend there 2pm. It was just us. It felt like a movie scene where you wonder how a place stays in business w/only 2 characters drinking. For me, this was GREAT. I assume they do much better between 5pm & 2am.

Yelp
I'm kicking myself that I didn't get to this place sooner. I've driven past it for years. They are dog friendly yet they serve food, albeit a limited menu. That's unusual and a huge plus for me and my pups. I got a burger and it was solid. I don't remember the price but it was fair, as we're the drinks. I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great bar, great people and the drink prices are just right. Exactly what I was looking for in a sports bar. Bartenders and patrons are welcoming. They have almost every game and allow you to change the TVs to the game you want. Highly recommend this place. Dog friendly too.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Everything you expect from a neighborhood bar! Cold beer, Chicago Sports, friendly patrons and a cranky bartender or three (supposed to be funny).

John W.

Yelp
My friends and I went there the other night for the first time. We immediately certified it as a home bar. This place is absolutely wonderful, and John the bartender is a delight. It's a classic neighbourhood bar, and we plan to go back every time we're in Chicago. Highly, highly recommended.

Yelp
6036 N Broadway Chicago - Glenlake Ave & Norwood St. - Edgewater Go and enjoy the Double Bubble 10/2/21 - Mrs. Q went with the other half. Obviously, this is a place to come & watch Sports & enjoy a bite (menu - Burgers, Hot Dogs, Brats, Chili, etc.) & a drink. Many TV's and they do have an outdoor quite seating area in the back of the Double Bubble & they have a full bar. Mrs. Q says: Is it the best bar around the "hood?" Probably not, but still go and visit to watch the sports on TV or just to enjoy the ambiance & friends for a fun time & enjoy the Sports memorabilia. Mrs. Q had an early dinner: A burger with tomatoes/pickles & a bag of chips along with a Stella beer. The other half had a bowl of Chili- top with onions & then he had a burger with everything & a bag of chips along with a Stella beer. After eating the cook came over with a tray of mini cupcakes, & a variety of cookies, etc. from the bakery next door - they were yummy. The evening before they had a private wedding rehearsal party - so the Double Bubble was closed to the public. Was fun to sit, enjoy the conversation & ambiance & people watch. Mrs. Q says: Sometimes it is not the drinks or food, but it is the conversation with friends & the ambiance.

Yelp
What's not to like about a friendly neighborhood bar, even when you're not from the neighborhood, because they treat you nice, like you are. Okay, at least one of us lives close by. Yes, it's cash only and you do better getting a beer, something neat or a mixed drink. This is not a wine bar, they do have a few of those little bottles in a cooler. However, when it comes to the other stuff the bar is well stocked. Since it's cash, prices are reasonable. You will find some friendly people here, I was informed by one guy that they're a north side Sox bar, hey that's cool with me. Remember I said this wasn't my 'hood, I'm a south sider and and a Sox fan. I do know of another north side bar that's a Sox bar, and they're also known for being a down to earth beer and booze place. I can't call this place a dive, it's really in great condition, and squeaky clean, same for the restroom as mentioned, there's really only one thing that you want to smell in there, it's the hint of bleach. Yes, clean as can be, and a stand with extra toilet paper rolls in it too, important perk. The place was all decked out for the holidays, but not in a cheesy way, real pretty white lights. Otherwise, you'll find framed pics of our Chicago sports teams. If in the area I wouldn't hesitate on stopping in for one.

Yelp
Definitely a local staple in Edgewater. No frills dive bar with darts and a back patio. Cash only but there's an ATM on-site. Stop in to find affordable drinks and local folklore discussed at the bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood bar to get a drink with friendly staff and locals! I'm glad I found this place.

Magdalena J.

Yelp
Love this bar and the double bubble. Would chew the gum there if I had enough to get there. Pennies please. Pennay Thank you.
google avatar

Cheryl W.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by it's cover. This is a nice dive bar and it has an outdoor patio in the back. This place is a no frills place and service is great. Stop in and have a look!
google avatar

Leo H.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. I live down the street so have a slight bias but this place is friendly and welcoming. I prefer craft beers and they have a good variety in cans. Music and patrons seem to vary by bartender but none disappoint.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
What a dope place. We stopped in after another event and got there close to 1am and I can say this is a chill bar. I've seen some call it a dive but i wouldn't say dive but more neighborhood bar/chill spot. It's one of those places where you'll make some new friends at the end of the night. No one there seemed to have an agenda other than to have a drink or two. There is nothing wrong with that at all! I'd like to definitely come back in the near future as it isn't far from Rogers park. A couple other bonuses is the pinball game and being able to connect to the free WiFi from the bakery shop next door!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here for 12+years. Unreal place, great prices, friendly neighborhood atmosphere, the best owners and staff. Bike parking, street parking, close to the El. Place has it all

Yelp
Dubble Bubble Gum (5 facts): 1) Dubble Bubble was distributed in military rations during World War II until 1942 2) It was invented accidentally by an accountant at Fleer 3) It was introduced as the first five-pack of gum in 1957 4) Dubble Bubble turned 80 in 2008 5) In 1954, the company began sponsoring bubble gum blowing contests--which grew in popularity and were eventually televised Double Bubble Bar (5 facts): 1) No frills and no gimmicks, but plenty of wood paneling 2) Cash only 3) Friendly bartenders 4) Decent selection of tunes on the jukebox 5) Michelob on tap served in ice cold, frosted mugs for $1.75 I would take the Red Line up to Edgewater again to drink here on the cheap. It also means I wouldn't have to bring a pair of binoculars to see the score of the MSU/Illinois game, unlike another place down the street that shall remain nameless.

Yelp
Fuckin' A, I love this place. Despite the Northwestern bowl loss. They had all three bowl games going today, plus the NHL Winter Classic. We enjoyed front-row-center seats, with sound, for the NU game. Actually, we were the only ones there for most of the time. We did get some weird company, as always, this time in the form of a middle-aged dude in pajama pants exclaiming repeatedly how the on-field play was "pretty good for a white guy." Just when I thought I was going to have to say something, he took off. Larry the Bartender is awesome and took great care of us. He was cooking up a big 16-pound ham and a 14-pound beef roast for the bar's New Year's Day/Rose Bowl festivities. That ham smelled amazing! Larry would ring the bell for every Northwestern score. When we ordered food, he gave us plates, napkins, and plastic ware. Great guy. Settle in with some cheap $3.50 pitchers of Michelob (yeah, I can stop being a beer snob for one day--it's 2010, a new beginning!), order some delivery (eff you, Apart, for being closed, but thank you to Villa Palermo for feeding us), watch the game, enjoy some fun times and great company and great service and interesting people-watching. Come home in the afternoon with a nice buzz and a big smile. That's a goddamn good day.

Yelp
Great old school dive bar! The kind they don't make anymore. Great bartenders and a friendly gregarious crowd.

Todd W.

Yelp
Cheap beer Animal friendly Good laugh a Bull dog sitting at on the bar stool at the bar.

Yelp
Great neighborhood joint. Cash only. Always an interesting crowd. Great for hanging out with a group of friends or getting an after work drink.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Great local/townie pub. I think they did a remodel in the last year or so. Very nice bar and I think they have semi regular drink specials. I just wish it was closer to home!
google avatar

Yelp
Not much to say about the Bubble but that it's close to a few of my favorite things in Edgewater (the beach and Lori's place). It's cheap, it's full of interesting folks and while you may have to fetch the bartender's attention more than once to get another beverage, it's a great neighborhood bar that's worth a visit. I do however, recommend escaping before the last call siren. My ears are still ringing from the first and only time I heard it (three months ago).

Yelp
The Cambridge Dictionary defines a dive as "a cheap, unattractive bar or place for entertainment." While The Double Bubble is indeed cheap, I would not describe it at all as unattractive, based upon a recent visit. I suppose to some, the definition of dive is relative, but my idea of a dive is more along the lines of L&L in Lakeview or a place which hasn't been re-done since the 1940's. I did not witness the old DB, in spite of living two blocks away for a couple of years in the '80s'. But I find the new place pretty spiffy as neighborhood pubs go. I was invited to a private event/memorial for a gent who was a regular here. His family thought it appropriate to celebrate his life at his favorite haunt. So the place was full of older Edgewater Glen residents and their families, and it was not a usual night with usual customers. But I'm guessing the regulars here are not too different from this post-funeral crowd. They are having a 36th Anniversary partyon Saturday, November 30 from 6-9PM, where draft imports are $2.50, and domestic bottles $1.50. Sounds like good cheap fun to me. The first 50 attendees get a commemorative mug. Expecting much less, I found the Double Bubble to be a clean and inviting Chicago neighborhood bar, and one I'd return to if I wanted to experience the old Edgewater Glen vibe, and chat up Larry the bartender who's lived there since '55. The beer choices may be limited for today's hopmeisters, but the couple of Green Lines I had here suited me just fine.

Yelp
My reaction exactly: this place is called the "Double Bubble"? My friends and I affectionately refer to this Edgewater dive as "Football Bar," because with 8+ televisions, on a Sunday afternoon you pretty much have your pick of NFL games. My friends appreciate it because they can keep track of their fantasy football stats. I appreciate it because I don't know where Rex Grossman will be playing next year, but at Football Bar I'll be guaranteed to catch his game... wherever it is. (I know, don't laugh.) Hot dogs, brats and burgers available from the grill. Larry the Sunday bartender is one of the most attentive and efficient cocktail slinger I've encountered -- the kind that remembers the specific garnish combination you like with your drink so you never have to ask twice. An all-around great full-service dive.

Yelp
I love this dive bar. A real dive bar, not pseudo- do not expect any frills! Perfectly located- right down the street, I can stumble home. The neighborhood even conveniently put in a stoplight so I do not have to worry about crossing Broadway. How considerate of them! It does get smokey at times, but, with the new ordinance hanging over all of the smokers heads, that will not happen for long. It features a old time bar, a couple of tables, and plenty of booze. What more can you ask for? No name is featured on the outside. You can identify it by the Bud sign hanging above the door- that and the green tile. No name is needed for the regulars. In fact, it took me about a year before I learned it.

Yelp
Rethinking. This place is too loud (yes, Im aware its a bar), too many shouty old drunk men and a bit too sports obsessed. Still an okay place, and I do appreciate the absolutely spotless bathrooms. Maybe a better time to visit is weekend days when its a bit quieter and lower key.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
This place was like a VFW basement. Wood paneling everywhere. It smelled like crap inside too. Bunch of older guys totally getting wasted at the bar and one of their wives playing the poker machine or something to that extent. FOOD: They had chips I believe. DRINK: The only superior tap was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Michelob Ultra was on special for $3 and you get a large mug/mini pitcher. Not much on tap, but IPA is OK by me. ATMOSPHERE: I think we brought half the crowd. Maybe 12 people in the place. Not bad to have a beer or two. Its a dive. They had some good tunes on the juke. I put on Children of the Grave by Sabbath so I was happy. Probably won't go out of my way to go back, but it is everything it promises. Dive bar. If you find yourself doing the Edgewater circuit in one night, check it out.
google avatar

Todd A.

Yelp
A decent "beer and a shot" joint. The drinks are cheap and the bartender is friendly enough. The back patio seemed nice enough, but it was night when I was back there and I was busy smoking and drinking...at the same time. If I had a bitch, it would be the music. It's kept at a deafening level to the point where you can't hear the person sitting next to you. Absolutely worth a return visit...
google avatar

Kris F.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite place on Sundays during football season. You can watch all games, any game, all at the same time. Larry is great about putting your fav time on the tv near where you are sitting. Food on Sundays is on the grill. It's good but there's not a great selection. But do you need more than brats and cheeseburgers during football. No, no you don't. You'll be fine. If you haven't been there in a year, you'll be impressed with the new lighting and bar. Why wouldn't you spend your Sundays at the double bubble? Fun people even if the occasional packer fan is there and I can't freaking stand them.
google avatar

Louie B.

Yelp
The Double Bubble (you can see the name on the brick wall of the building OUTSIDE, when traveling North on Broadway) is a great place to go. The owner/day bartender Larry is an all around great guy, very attentive and a great cook. If your lucky you'll get to try his famous chili! The other bartenders are great, they each have their own easygoing personality. Theres nothing better than a neighborhood bar, and this is the best one! Great music, great people, great experience. Darts too! Its a small family for the regulars! The best kind of bar around!
google avatar

Jeremy O.

Yelp
Pros: -You're sure to catch nearly any major sporting event here. I come regularly for NHL games -Cheap! -A true no-frills dive bar -The regulars can be fun to drink with... Cons: -Selection of beer is VERY limited - mostly popular domestics -The bar can get a little sticky (?)
google avatar

Jeremy B.

Yelp
The Double Bubble IMO is definitely a dive bar - they serve up cheap beer, they've been around forever, yet it is oddly kept nice and clean inside. The staff is friendly, the patrons are as well - everyone just seems to be there to have a good time and throw back a few. You'll get your "regulars" sitting at the bar during the day and night, but then sometimes a younger (Loyola?) crowd on the weekend evenings. They also have a fairly large grassy patio area out back with some tables. A local gem in the Edgewater neighborhood.
google avatar

Teaira B.

Yelp
My parents came to visit the city from Idaho and they had a hard time finding a BudLight when they wanted one.... We stopped in here and they had the coldest BudLight yet! The bar was very clean and the bartender was friendly. We were only there in the early afternoon so it was quiet but the vibe was really nice.
google avatar

john k.

Yelp
Great neighborhood tavern with an outstanding selection of bottled beers. Very good for watching any sporting event or simply having a "cold one"
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Got to love this place. My favorite place to come for a beer and NFL game. They have the ticket so it's been my go-to place for the past few years. Love the service and atmosphere. Two thumbs up, for sure!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Recently renovated. No more wood paneling. Still a dive bar by definition, but a classy one. Prices are still very reasonable also. Got the Sunday NFL ticket. Big on the Chicago Blackhawks too.
google avatar

Pyke D.

Yelp
i can't count the times I've walked past the Double Bubble (which really needs a cool contraction) without even considering going in. I finally did after being shushed out of another bar, and it was pretty impressing. Beer for under 2 bucks, one of the better jukeboxes in the area, attentive bartenders, and APPARANTLY they serve some kind of sandwich for 1.50. I have no idea what it is, but if it's PB&J D-Bubs (which is its new name, spread it around) will get its 5th star.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood bar. Great bartenders and a great atmosphere. Not only is it great for sports but it's great anytime of the week with very reasonable beer prices and huge selection of craft beers as well. Food is always top notch. The owner Larry Swoboda is one of the friendliest and courteous bar owners I have ever met.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Just got back from the Bubble and it was AWESOME!! Cheap drinks, good jukebox, and the bartender Molly had the skill and savvy of a Vegas flair bartender AND the a@% of a 9 year-old boy! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bar and one of my favorite places to be. Food is great, company/workers are great, and the drinks are cheap. One of the many reasons why I stay living in Edgewater.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
The people are not very friendly, the bartender would rather use his laptop than serve you. An hour before last call the place starts closing down. Lights off, chairs up. Basically saying "I don't want to be here and you shouldn't either". I do like the frosty mugs and back porch in summer though.
google avatar

Andy O.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar! Can't beat $8 pitchers of Michelob every night of the week and the staff is really friendly. The crowd is about half older locals and half Loyola kids, and there's a pretty good jukebox and a number of TVs with any local games on or college or pro football depending on the day of the week. Good quiet place to grab a few drinks with friends before heading out downtown or in Andersonville.

Eric M.

Yelp
This place is great. Have been going there for years and one of the best kept secret bars to watch football in Chicago. In fact, on Sundays all the games are on and from any seat in the bar you can watch the entire slate of games. Drink prices are affordable too. Highly recommended spot.

Billy C.

Yelp
Great name for a bar. Not a friendly place though. Horrible service with a rude staff and god forbid if you get tipsy or intoxicated while at the bar.

G K.

Yelp
We wandered in during a blizzard to watch a game but what we found was more than just a game today it was ever decided it was more than just a safe haven it was heaven we need to When Paul who might have been the ownercame to our table to greet us offered us free food and drink gave us a good deal for drinks and cut delicious meal or half time keeping real word forfries were not called unlike the pumping go gamble we enjoy gambling on the game and they did not stop at all once againonce again Paul was wonderful and I hope he is successful in all his endeavor we will return even if weather is clear thank you again to the double bubble we will cherish

Jim P.

Yelp
Friendly owner and staff. Great place to watch a Sox game on North Side. Wish there were more neighborhood "dive" (in the good sense) bars like this one.
