This is THE place to get a hat - if you want the best quality and the best service. A hat from this place which was given to me 9 years ago did not fit perfectly and when I asked the guy, what I can do, he not only adjusted it and made it fit perfectly but also shaped it exactly to make it fit my head! And he did not accept any payment for that. Some of the hats made there with the best materials available worldwide are lasting 200 years (yes two hundred!) Plus it is very interesting to see how the hats are made. A MUST GO place when you visit the bitterroot valley.

The hats are beautiful and custom made. FYI… they are not cheap and run around $1,500 but… if you want a good hat that is going to last… this is the place

My wife and I ordered custom cowboy hats last October. Rich was our hat maker. He spent quality time with us both choosing, the right color, style and fit for each of us. Rich explained it would take several months to create. When our hats where finished, they turned out absolutely beautiful. the craftmanship was superior. To Rich, Thank you! I have now bought 3 hats from Jimmy : 2 felts and 1 straw. The fit is absolutely perfect. Workmanship is superb. To say that Jimmy knows his hats would be a gross understatement of his expertise and experience. He is always willing to help and is a pleasure to work with. I’ll be back for Hat #4 shortly for winter-wear.

If you’re ever in that area of Montana, you must see this place. We ordered a hat and purchased a handmade hat band that is extraordinary. They make hats for everyone who wear hats. Will post a pic when we get the hat!

Drove an hour to Darby to purchase a hat. The store had another couple in it when I arrived. They were spending a lot of money! I quickly picked out the hat I wanted and asked Jimmy to shape the top for me. He stated "nobody shapes the top, who will see it" So I walked away without getting the hat shaped as I had wanted. Now I'm looking for someone to do this for me. Guess he was more concerned with the other customers who were spending more money. Based on the poor customer service, I wouldn't recommend this store.

So hard to find good crafts people who are keeping up the tradition of hand made goods. H&H Custom Hats is a gem in the South end of the Bitterroot Valley. Custom on site hats are a rarity and the quality of Jimmy & Rich's are 2nd to none. Worth the stop just to check out the other items in the beautiful store and see how the hats are made.

I recently sent a hat in, that Jimmy made for me several years ago, for some minor repair work that was needed as a result of my poor handling. The hat looks like new again, and the repair bill was extremely reasonable! Turnaround was quick. I am a very happy customer! Thanks Jimmy!

My husband bought a custom beaver hat from Jimmy aprox 20 years ago.. he did an AMAZING job, custom fit,quality craftsmanship! Fast forward to 2020 he passed it down to our grandson in Tennessee. It needed to be cleaned and re fitted to his head. Our daughter sent it back to Jimmy and said what it was gonna cost, hard times, covid..they couldn't afford to get it done right now. Jimmy took the hat resized it,cleaned it and sent it back for NO CHARGE!! Jimmy said he respected the fact it was being handed down and he wanted to do something nice!! Not too many people like this in the world today!!!

I've been fortunate enough to buy a couple hats from him over the years, and they are both of exceptional quality in both materials and craftsmanship, and have proven that they will undoubtedly outlast me. If you need a hat, a real hat, then you will want to go see Jimmy at Double H. It's worth the trip to Darby, even if you have to get on a plane to make it happen. While traveling through Darby in 2012 we passed Double H Hat Company. I'd been looking for a derby similar to Bat Masterson style in a Silver Belly color. My wife noticed the shop and we stopped. Jimmy went over the specifics of one of his hats and I was impressed but did not do an impulse buy as much as I wanted a hat. We continued our trip and all the while I was wishing I'd ordered a hat. 30 miles further north of Darby on 93 my wife finally said, "if you want the hat then lets go back, it's a once in a lifetime thing". I stopped and turned around and we drove back to Darby. We walked in and I told Jimmy I wanted to order my Derby. He carefully measured my head and I explained what I was envisioning and he then made a few suggestions as to what would look good so we settled on a plan. We then continued on our trip happy having made the order. It took @ 7 weeks for the hat to be finished and arrive via UPS. I hesitated several days before opening the box as I was ansy looking at it if for some reason it was not what I envisioned. I finally did open it and I was in awe at the hat. It was just what I'd imagined in all respects. Jimmy did a great job on the hat and it fit like a glove. I've gotten so many compliments on the hat from friends and also from one hatter in Missouri when I walked into his store. He instantly said "who made your hat?" "I could tell when you walked into the store that it wasn't a hat off a rack somewhere." That really made me feel good knowing I had a quality hat that was recognized by others that were in the business also. Double H Hat Company is a quality business that sells a quality product. Just don't speed through town as the Marshall does keep a look out as all travel through his town. You don't want to drive fast anyway as Darby is a quaint small town with a personality you don't want to miss.
