My friend wanted to check this place out while we were in Anchorage, so we walked over from the Alaska Wild Berry Products store in like 20 degree weather. Was it the smartest thing to do, probably not but we needed to kill time. It was honestly a pleasant walk, so no regrets there!
While walking along the more main road, it was hard to find the store. We saw a banner on a fence and just assumed we were in the right area. The food truck covered the main door so that's how we were thrown off. We arrived around 4:30 on a Friday, and there was plenty of seating. My friend got the flight while I settled for a cup of their kombucha. For the price, both the flight and the kombucha were super worth it. Maybe I'm jaded by Bay Area pricing, but $5 for a 12 oz of kombucha and $10 for a flight of four 5-oz ciders is a steal!
The kombucha was omg, so delicious. The flavor for the day was berry lemonade which I mean, already sounded delicious. The server said they get their kombucha locally. Turns out they get it from Zip Kombucha, who's a local kombucha company close by to Double Shovel. It didn't feel too carbonated like other kombucha I've had, and I really wished they sold the kombucha in a can so I could've bought one for the road.
My friend picked the following four ciders for her flight: Appalanche, pineapple, cranberry, and Early Harvest. I had a sip of each, and REALLY liked the pineapple one. I don't really drink alcohol and can taste even the slightest hint of it in a drink, but the pineapple one was just so good! I could really taste the pineapple, and I loved the citrus flavor.
I liked that they have different food trucks that rotate serving the patrons inside so you could get food and have a drink in one spot. I wish we had something similar in the Bay Area, but overall Double Shovel ended up being a pleasant surprise. If I'm in Anchorage again, I would definitely come back.
