Yelp
Those who are guilty of regularly hunkering down in a coffee shop with a laptop and leeching off the wifi for hours on end should stop reading this Yelp review now. Double Eye is about the size of a bathroom in an overpriced Brooklyn apartment. In other words, this coffee shop is the size of a shoebox. It's standing room only, with a small circular table in the middle of the shop for about three or four customers to crowd around and two wall ledges, one of which overlooks the street from the window. There are also some outdoor benches, but those are a moot point in the winter.
While some of the Yelp reviews accuse Double Eye of being a bit hipstery, I didn't find any of the baristas to be aloof at all. Nor was the coffee overpriced. I even got a complimentary biscuit with my espresso, which was a nice touch. I'm not really an espresso person (is that heresy to admit while living in Europe?) but I thought it was pretty smooth. This place is definitely more of a takeaway coffee spot -- I think I'll be back to get an Americano to-go (which Double Eye offers as a cafe creme, as one of the beanie-clad baristas explained to me the last time I was there).
