I spent seven night in this hotel on a business trip to Berlin where I needed easy access to the Berlin Messe. It’s a short S Bahn ride to the Messe and has direct connection to the airport as well. The Kurfenstendam area isn’t the most interesting for cultural attractions, but it does work for daily conveniences, fast food, and international brand shopping if that’s your thing. ||The hotel is really good looking at least on the inside, and seems new-ish. The rooms are bright, modern with all the latest conveniences, like outlets which come with both USB B and USB C ports. The rooms have nescafe capsule machine, an empty fridge and plenty of counter space, natural light and giant windows. Despite being modern, they have also gone for function, meaning that the lights were controlled by switches, curtains by pulling etc. NO guessing which button does what. The bathroom is small but functional. The décor goes a bit beyond: there are decorative pieces in the room, as well as a few coffee table books for show.|Alas as other guests have noted costs have been cut elsewhere– there are no laundry bags, no shoe polish or extra amenities (Qtips or cotton balls) , no slippers, no soap bar… And the drawers on the dresser are decorative only, they’ just seem like drawers, until you pull and the lid comes off and you realize that there’s actually nothing there. ||The hotel appears often understaffed at the front desk, every morning there’s a long line because there are max two people at peak hour. When I checked in on a Sunday evening around 7 pm there was only one staff person there. The service is wonky. The first day my room wasn’t cleaned. When I called the operator to ask why, she said that the rooms are only cleaned once every three days. I was shocked at this, checked the website and my reservation to see if I had missed something. It turns out not to be true, the operator just trying to justify and make up policies on the fly. |The gym is a sore spot. It’s a gorgeous room, circular with full windows. But the actual equipment is pathetic for this space and a new hotel this size. There are two each treadmills, ellipticals and bikes, one double pulley and one bench stack, and that’s it! They could easily have fit four or five other machines, but decided not to. On the other hand, there is a sauna and taps of Brita water with still and sparkling. So they have spent money on some things, but just not the actual equipment… It’s a shame. ||All in all, I am not sure whether I will return to this hotel. The price is comparable to the other big chain hotels in the city, and yet, I felt they were cutting corners here and there. It could be a great say but I think they fell short.
