Ended up here after a horrific experience at another hotel. A pleasure! Easy check, in clean rooms comfy beds, great amenities. Good location from campus would stay here again for sure. Snacks to buy & gave us an extra blanket. Pillows were nice, nice shampoo & lotion!

I stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night while driving for a conference at the university. Upon getting to my room at 10pm on Friday, I discovered somebody else's stuff was already in there. I was supposed to have my own room. When I called the front desk, they assured me I did have my own room and gave me a different one. When I got back to the hotel on Saturday night, My room key didn't work. So again, I go down to the front desk. This time, they tell me the room was only booked for one night. I'm responsible for driving the bus back to Iowa on Sunday, and I doubt the university would book everyone else's room for two nights but mine for only one night. Never-the-less, they gave me yet another room and a trashbag that had my clothes in it along with the food from the fridge thrown on top (dirtying my clothes for Sunday). Putting these mix-ups aside, children ran the halls well past 11pm making sleep tough. The rooms were nice, the staff were all friendly which is why I gave it two stars.

I was charged for a room I cancelled. The front desk twice fooled me about a reservation. First I had it then didn’t. Then I canceled. Then they didn’t cancel and DID NOT notifying me they failed to cancel. There was very poor communication. Hence I got an $800 charge. Oops. Ouch! Then they said because their front desk screwed up I was only charged $300 for the front desk to only cancel one room not the entire reservation, absolute BS that a hotel can charge three times the rates for a weekend , have such poor desk people, then be fine charging me $300 for NO service. ... How is this a Hilton hotel?

Sally at the front desk was so helpful. We had a great time at this Double Tree. The room was clean and comfortable. We would stay at this location again.

Positive: I have stayed here several times while in Lawrence and it has always been a pleasure. I would say for the price and location it is the best in town. The staff is great and rooms a clean and serviced everyday. Negative: ""

Google
Super Clean, front desk lady was super kind and accommodating, bed was amazing, and the connected restaurant was a plus with great food and service!! Price for both places was great!! Would definitely stay here again!!

Over all this hotel was great. The last night I was there was a Saturday. When I got to my room around 11pm there was a party going on next door with multiple adults and kids. Yelling and screaming. Called front desk and they said they would call the room. 15 minutes later I called back down to the front desk. She said they would not answer the phone and there was nothing she could do. She could not leave the front and there is no security on site. So the party continued till around 1 AM. When I checked out I told the front desk I was very updated as a Diamond Member that nothing was done about the party. She told me sorry I hope you have a good day.

I will not stay at this hotel again. I came to attended a conference. It was about midnight when I got back to the hotel and I was told I could not stay in the hotel lobby reading emails on my phone. The front desk worker was very rude in letting me know that I could not sit anywhere in the lobby or outside my room in the chairs provided due to the lobby is closed at 10pm for quite hours. I understood why they try to keep it as quite as they can in respect for others sleeping but when you have someone sleeping in your room, need to catch up on work emails there should be a place that you can sit can do these. The front desk clerk actually stated if we didn’t leave the lobby she would call the police on us. ||||I will not recommend this hotel to anyone nor will I stay here again.

Yelp
Customer service is not at all a priority. Front desk girl was rude. I guess we don't fit the criteria here . Definitely wouldn't recommend this place for a stay. I'd definitely look for someplace else . Strong odor of chlorine as soon as you walk in . Headache status

Yelp
My reservation had been canceled when I showed up to check in. I booked through a 3rd party site that said my reservation was still active. They canceled it and I rebooked at the desk for two nights and 434$. I now have a second charge for 217$ because they told me I was a no show. No one is available to help resolve the issue I'm told til later but no definite time. Wouldn't be such a big deal if I hadn't made sure for 30 mins previous to booking that I wouldn't be charged twice.

Yelp
From the moment I walked into the hotel, I knew it was a mistake. The smell of mold was so strong. The entire hotel feels damp. The AC unit blows directly onto the King Size bed - so the smell of mold was blowing in my face all night. I was up coughing with a headache... Three hours of sleep later, I can assure you we will never stay here again. Sorry Hilton - we usually love your hotels...

Shawn M.

Yelp
Ok abit dated. Friendly staff. Has a bar with ok beer selection. Great service. Typical breakfast with an omelette station. Opens at 5 pm

Rita M.

Yelp
Was hot outside and the thermostat is fixed so as not to be adjusted by guests. Was hot and uncomfortable as they could possiby make it. We were in an outside room and the traffic was loud all night. Between the heat in the room and the traffic we got no sleep. Would never stay here again. Check in process was slow as they were all gabbing with someone. Just an awful experience. It was only one night, thank goodness. Would never have spent two nights there. My husband liked the coffee in the lobby. That was the ONLY good thing.

Doug S.

Yelp
Great experience right from the start! I was greeted by Pilar and she was just exceptional by her helpfulness and her smile. I felt very welcome and appreciated. My room felt humid upon entering but it was only near the door. My room was clean and everything looked great. Outstanding customer service must be the thing because, when checking out, Rylee excelled with her smile and helpfulness. The breakfast is a MUST. John, the breakfast cook, makes omelets to order and they are yummy. The other items a breakfast are fantastic! I would definitely stay here again. Thanks Pilar, Rylee and John for your hard work, dedication and professionalism. By the way, the DoubleTree cookies are mouthwatering and you have to try one.

Yelp
DoubleCharge, not DoubleTree! After a one night stay I was billed for two at $224.84 each. Upon bringing this the attention of management, with five phone calls to the front desk or leaving two messages with the general manager, a Ms. Sabine Hendricks, I received no replies. On the sixth call, I was told by the front desk that the second charge was never made by DoubleTree. This is not true. In addition, the room they offered wreaked of mold. To their credit, they did move us to a nicer room. AVOID THIS HOTEL.

Desirae B.

Yelp
The hotel just wasn't very clean. The carpet, floors, shower, and furniture needed more attention. The lobby is fairly nice but the room felt like it belonged to a lower budget hotel. I'm not snooty and can sleep wherever, I just didn't prefer this hotel. The walls were pretty thin too. I travel often. The front desk staff were nice.

avie m.

Yelp
Do not stay here. We encountered a cockroach in the room. We had to argue with a Front desk employee for almost 30 minutes for a credit. Hilton should be ashamed of this facility. Please go to another hotel.

Denise B.

Yelp
Aesthetically pleasing for sure but my stay was awful. 3 nights sleeping in a cold swamp. this place has serious water issues. My room was so moist nothing would dry. woke up to moist shoes and clothes. Seems like a pool in the lobby is not such a great idea. I would avoid as mold has to be an issue with all that water. rugs were soaked. No fans in the bathrooms means more moisture. Old toilets = more water. drop ceilings in the bathrooms means MOLD. And if you book through a discount service, be assured you will get the worst rooms available. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!

Yelp
I do not know why this hotel is rated so highly on booking.com. The one-star reviews on here don't lie. This is the worst Hilton Hotel I have ever been to. Let's start with location. If you are from out of town, you might think it's a good idea to book a stay because it's a college town. It was halfway from one of our vacation spots and home. The options for food are awful in the area. The only chains they have are Texas Roadhouse and Chili's but are 10 min away. There also not much to do if your not visiting the campus. It also does not really feel like a safe area. Now the hotel itself is truly disgusting. I'm not saying this lightly. The pictures online look like it will be nice but looks are deceiving. The rooms feel humid because of the pool which makes the sheets feel wet. I use to hate dry sheets when we stayed in the mountains but I will never complain about dry sheets again Our room was non-smoking but smelled like smoke. I had a hard time breathing in them. Our comforter was almost brown looking when it was supposed to be white.... The reviews about black mold must be true. We were lucky to be in the renovated rooms but you could not shake the smell. I woke up in a sweat even with the thermostat set to 71 and cool in hot July summer. Genuinely this has warped my view of the state as a whole and I probably will not come back to Kansas altogether. Please do not stay at this hotel.

Yelp
We checked in at around 1:30am so it wasn't a big deal when the guy at the front reservation desk was on the phone talking about clubbing with his buddy. What wasn't okay was that we called the front desk twice and he didn't bother to answer. I went downstairs to ask for linens for the pull out bed (we paid extra for it AND it should be there already) and he was annoyed that he had to interrupt his phone call to go back. The mini refrigerator is loud. Very loud. I suppose i could have gone downstairs (since he doesn't answer the phone) and asked for a new room. I needed it for some of the food we had so it wasn't an option to turn it off. It was late, so we decided to ignore it. I suppose if we checked out n at a normal hour my review would be higher but really... a business is only as good as the way they handle problems and non-routine issues.

Dee N.

Yelp
This place is dark and damp! The pool is in the lobby which makes everything feel wet! My sons socks got wet from our room floor. The hotel is very outdated, has dark dingy carpet in the rooms and hallway. The front desk lady was rude as well. Disappointed as we spent good money for two nights here.

Matthew G.

Yelp
After driving 10 hours we checked into our room 312 and upon going into the rest room we noticed black mold all over the ceiling tiles, and covering the walls and under the sink. There were also what looks to be food stains on the walls and a water leak above the sink. We brought it to the manager (Sabine) attention she stated we could just check out snce this property is not owned by Hilton & she couldn't offer anything else or honor the price at another Hilton property nearby! We had to call HHONORS whom was able to get us a room at another location for a higher rate! Beware Black mold is extremely dangerous and if its this bad in one room its definitely throughout the property!

Yelp
One of the quieter hotels I've stayed in, plus the staff are super helpful & friendly, and the fitness center is pretty nice. I've been traveling for a week and this is the quietest hotel I've stayed in all week. If you have a room that faces into the lobby, the lobby is pretty quiet, and if you have a room that faces out, most of the rest of the rooms face out into a quiet back lot. The gym is huge for a hotel gym. Unfortunately, the space is mostly empty, but they still have treadmills, ellipticals, a spin bike, a recumbent bike, a dip/hip flexor rack, and two benches with dumbells going up to 50 lbs. Also, the saltwater pool is long enough to be used as a short lap pool. It's weirdly shaped, so you have to swim on the diagonal, which makes one of the turns against a 45 degree wall, but it still beats the pool in most hotels. BTW, this hotel is old, and it shows. A lot of the finishes and furnishings show serious signs of wear and tear. I don't care about that kind of thing, but if you want a nice, shiny, polished, hotel, this is definitely not it.

Yelp
The hotel was once grand. Double tree bought it and remodeled it, they got rid of the sauna and made it offices. They got rid of the balcony's facing the pool and made them all just a wall so the whole inside pool area went from a garden resort feel to a walked in environment. The rooms smell moldy and the staff just argues and tells you they don't even when multiple guests are saying it. The elevator is in a scary state of disrepair. They stopped room service and claim staffing issues even though they have plenty of staff to harass guests in the pool. They start flashing the pool lights at a quarter till closing like it's a bar and relentlessly harass guests every Five minutes. They told me it's to protect the other guests staying and the pool, but they turned those rooms into walls so I don't see how those guests would even care. Over all it's waaaay over priced for what it now is.

Lynn M.

Yelp
Electricity is out, guests expected to walk around hotel with personal flashlights, no backup generator; no assistance; hotel not secure as doors will not lock. The two "girls" at the front have nothing to say but lights might come on tonight. Where is manager? Why aren't they moving guests to other properties? Ridiculous....find another hotel.

Yelp
For the past few years, I've been staying in the hotel across the street from the Double Tree, but since this was newly remodeled and opened by Hilton, I decided to check it out. Glad I did! The rooms are quite large and the beds are fabulously comfortable. Staff is friendly and efficient, and it's nice having a restaurant and bar on-site. The indoor pool was also a lot of fun for my great nieces and nephew, and surprisingly, wasn't very loud, even though I had a room that overlooked the pool area. The fitness center was open 24 hours, and had a nice selection of cardio equipment and weights. It would be nice if they kept the complimentary coffee/tea in the lobby available all day....I needed that caffeine pick-me-up for my holiday celebrations!

Yelp
Was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I was not expecting much being it a college town, but we arrived LATE this past Friday/sat morning (well after midnight) and the kind person checking us in was very accommodating and informative - not sure why someone so knowledgeable works night shifts but 5 stars to them. They even gave us pointers for our new Hilton rewards account they suggested we enroll in. If we return to Lawrence, will def try to stay here again. Editing to add that the hotel room itself was great. Comfortable beds and cozy sheets/pillows. Slept great. Loved the bathroom - very spacious counter and bright. A make up lovers dream! Shower was excellent too.

Yelp
The hotel is nice, the staff friendly and I found the lobby to be really nice. I've never understood the pool in the center of these hotels with a window to look out over them, but it's not a bad thing I suppose. The dock of a star is that the apartments around are run down. The fence next to it is broken in many places. Parking in back was a little sketchy for that reason.

Lynley H.

Yelp
I booked this hotel for my daughter's birthday party only to find out three days before that the pool would be under maintenance and closed. They would not let me cancel or even change to another date. Will never use them again.
google avatar

Craig R.

Yelp
Very nice hotel. Overall very clean. Pool was in the main lobby and very nice. Would definitely stay here again.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Great experience at the hotel! We checked in at about 9:30 at night and the young lady at the desk was very nice and energetic! She got us checked in, asked if we needed sheets for the pullout couch, asked if we wanted cookies, and told us that the entrance closest to our room was door C on the other side of the building for our convenience. The beds were very comfortable and the room felt very clean and comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Disappointing hotel in Lawrence. Typically Doubletree hotels are fairly consistent regardless of the city. The lobby is dated and appears to be the layout of some other brand, repurposed into a double tree. It just doesn't fit or flow well. The front desk and restaurant staff are friendly. The room was generally clean, but had a strong smell like it had been a smoking room, or had mold. The bathroom was dated and had water damage and what looked like mold in the ceiling tiles. The decor was odd and didn't have a theme, a good example of that is the odd plastic imitation wood desk lamps. Overall the hotel needs an update, an interior decorator, and a little better training for the staff.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a wonderful experience and at the time fairly priced. Walked into a air conditioned room and a wonderful set up of the pool from our room. They upgraded ya for free as I am a Hilton Rewards Member and my children had a damn near perfect pull out bed as well. Will be returning when I visit my family. Thanks for the positive experience!

Yelp
I was part of a convention here - we had a permission from a manager to be in the hot tub after the 10 pm cut of because our convention went from 9 am till 10 pm ( the official hot tub cut off time) but when we went to go in the manager on duty ( Sabine Hendrix front office manger ) rudely told us to get out. We explained we had previous permission from the day manager as well as in writing from the manager a month before to be in the hot tub quietly after hours but she told us we had to get out cause she knew nothing about it. She was incredibly rude, like more then I've seen ever. The guests of the convention had numerous other issues that went unresolved as well ( room bookings that didn't go through, 2 day bookings that registered as 1 day online etc). I would not recommend anyone stay here due to the lack of communication of the staff/ managers, the lack of rooms and the rudeness of the staff. Literally stay anywhere else where hopefully you'll be treated like a person and not like shot. I will not be back and I will jog stay at a double tree ever again based on how badly I was treated here You've been warned

Amber T.

Yelp
Shannon, the night front desk employee was extremely rude and treated us like criminals. We are obviously from out of town and did not know about the county mandate limiting groups to 10 or less. We had a group of 12. The mandate is not posted anywhere in the hotel lobby, was not mentioned in any email I received regarding my stay, and was not expressed to us at check in. Only after Shannon attacked us, threatened to call the police on us, did we know about the mandate. Management is not professional and did not help the situation at all. We will never stay at another Hilton owned hotel again.

Cary Tammy M.

Yelp
The staff were friendly and helpful, the beds are comfortable . The kitchen staff took care of us , when we were done with something they were right there to take the plate or glass. Food was really good. The lunch was huge and 10.00 menu on everything. The kitchen Boss also is over housekeeping and very professional
google avatar

Bud T.

Yelp
The hotel was nicely updated. We had about 90 people at a meeting. There was only 1 working public urinal and toilet for the men. NOT GOOD! It was a business meeting, IMPROVE YOUR WI-FI!!
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
We were in town for a youth basketball tournament and had to find a hotel late the first night after our other hotel fell through. Hotwired two nights and landed on the Double Tree. Exterior and grounds looked nice. Check in: can't recall a more friendly and pleasant check in experience. Gave us a couple extra cookies (which were really good) for the boys and free water bottles. Room was nice, up-to-date, clean and comfy. Didn't swim but pool area looked nice. Nice breakfast buffet there in the restaurant- again with extremely friendly staff. For the price we paid and our experience here, it was great.
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
The second you walk in it smells like chlorine, the pool is literally in the middle of the hotel (kind of awkward spot because everyone can see you swimming or in the hot tub). The staff was nice but not always helpful. It seems like they're going through some transitions. The breakfast is not complimentary, even for hhonors members. It's $8 for 'cold' breakfast and $12 for 'hot' breakfast. But none of it looks good for those prices. The hotel itself appears old but recently renovated. So some parts are nice and new but other parts are still very old. They should have just renovated it in its entirety. Fire alarm went off third to last night we were there at night, were told it was a malfunction. Went off again the next morning then were told they had elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Four fire trucks came, one ambulance and one fire & rescue suv. They tested all guests for elevated levels of carbon monoxide in blood system. Some guests had slightly above normal levels. So we could have died in our sleep since they knew about it the night before but didn't communicate it until the next morning. We left that morning & took us 45 mins. to check out a day early. Stay away! Used to be a holiday inn now renovating it to a double tree and locals say it's notorious for being old building & having problems.

Lawrence A.

Yelp
I should have only given them 3 stars, I stayed here this week on a night which seemed to have maybe 50 other people staying here tops. The hotel parking lot only had 20-30 cars parked. That being said, I didn't get any chocolate chip cookies at check in and no seemingly upgraded room (I'm a Hilton frequent traveler). They need to try alot harder at this Double Tree Hotel!

Yelp
I am extremely disappointed with the way business was conducted at this location. The front desk agent refused to give me his name saying, "I prefer not to give out my name over the phone and I normally don't so no." All by the same associate I have been transferred (to Sabin and Amara Lee's voicemail), hung up on, rudely spoken to..you name it! Just super unprofessional for a Hilton property. I spoke with a newer associate Hannah who was very helpful at getting my reservation together. She had no idea on next steps so she transferred me back to the front desk where I was given the same associate who refused to give his name. Hannah confirmed he had started my reservation and just needed a form of payment and for my company's documentation I have to have names to provide them along with our company preferred rate. He again refused to provide me his name, I asked for a manager or someone who could help with booking (after calling 5 times for the same reservation) who did not mind providing their name. He continued on to say, "Well mam we cannot continue this booking" in a rude manner. After calling back again for the 6th time now, I asked for a manager and got Matthew. He says, "I believe you were speaking with a new associate..JOSH". Hoooooorrrible service on behalf of Josh and this Hilton location. If my meeting did not require stay here I would NEVER stay here. Just an FYI to those who think about staying here... if you like hospitable service at check in with the front desk AVOID NO NAME JOSH

Yelp
We spent 7 nights at the Double Tree in Lawrence while in town for our son's wedding. Every member of the staff we had contact with during our stay from the front desk, housekeeping, and bar/restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. They ensured that every bit of our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. Our rooms were comfortable, clean, and well kept. It was very nice to have the bar/restaurant right on site. If you want to have a nice drink at the end of a busy day, go see Nick in the bar. He is very friendly and even helps you out with food or snack suggestions. We had a large number of family stay at the hotel for the wedding also, and all of them commented how nice the staff was and how they enjoyed their stay. We will definitely stay at the Double Tree again when visiting Lawrence.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
The hotel itself is going through remodel. But the staff goes above and beyond to help. Tere was a problem with the room and the Assistant Manager and Caleb handled it without pause. I would gladly return even before they are done with the remodel.
google avatar

Christy D.

Yelp
Hot tub was at 104 degrees and felt great. Even the indoor pool was fabulous. Rooms were very clean and free cider or coffee during our stay.

Sam W.

Yelp
I stayed here one night for a conference. The gym was nice, but overall the experience wasn't spectacular. I'm giving three stars mostly because the cost of the stay didn't include breakfast. I was really disappointed to find this out and honestly, there are so many great places to eat in Lawrence on Mass St. we didn't bother with the restaurant.

Yelp
Great hotel! I stayed here with my family while we were in town for a cousins wedding. Rooms were clean and updated. They had a nice pool and hot tub. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a great place!

Molly N.

Yelp
The room was very clean, nice, and the bed was very comfortable. The pool and hot tub were great. Hotel was quiet as well. Staff was super friendly and helpful! We had a wonderful experience here. Definitely will return if we pass through again.

Polly B.

Yelp
There were 3 friends that stayed in a king room with a hide a bed. When open you were only able to get into the bed on one side or crawl in from the foot. One of our group had been ill during the night and needed a late check out - we were declined. So we left. When I returned home I checked my statement and they had billed me for 2 nights instead of the one I stayed there. It took 4 phone calls over 4 hours (and 10 minutes on hold) to actually speak to someone that could help me by refunding that extra night they charged for even though I had not reserved OR stayed that night. However the room was clean and quiet but NOT suited for 3 guests to be comfortable at all. And the billing mess makes it not worth it!

Big D.

Yelp
Old hotel with friendly staff and knowledgeable bartender who could talk IPA's for an hour. Room was must when 1st entered but got better by after our dinner.

Missy O.

Yelp
I am sad for this hotel that people gave it one star. It was clean, newly refurbished, and quiet. We would stay there again. There were very minor signs of wear in our bathroom--a tiny chip in the sink and a small one on the top of the toilet tank. But super clean and nice. Comfortable beds and plenty of space.

Edward H.

Yelp
after a month and a half i received a call from doubletree lawrence telling me that they were going to charge me full rate for a no show.this was the 1st call back after 13 calls from me,one being over 45 minites on hold before i disengaged.their one call was at 830pm.i checked in the evening of 09/14/21 and checked out the following morning.my card billing comes and i find out they had used my card imfo to book a room the following nite.having been in the hotel biz in past i had noticed the desk clerk to be very unprofessional at check in.after all the calls with no returns until nov 5th,i definatly felt i was getting the runaround.i was charged 135.21`for 09/16/21 when i was over 100 miles away.i feel that the desk clerk and management are in collusionand intend on pursuing this much further.to return one call in 13 to inform me i was a no show nearly 2 months later is not only dishonestbut mindboggling.the only positive thing i can say is the place was empty.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Never before have I called a hotel to make a reservation and been told I am sorry we are to busy to take your reservation. You could try calling back in an hour and a half.

TB T.

Yelp
very comfortable stay -- just wished they offered free breakfast especially to reward members

Jennifer K.

Yelp
My company recently had a large event at the Double Tree and were very pleased! Event planner Jenna went above and beyond to help us make our event special and Brad the Chef definitely came thru on the food!! I would definitely recommend the Double Tree for anyone considering an event!
