So if I write another 5 reviews today, that'd be 10 in 2 days! Hmmm - let's start then (lots of fodder in the hopper!)
We went on a cruise out of SJU just before all this C-19-hell broke loose; decided to go a couple of days early so that we can explore a little of what this beautiful place had to offer. The DoubleTree is not too far away from the airport (10 min. no traffic, 15 if it's bad), and even closer to the Pan Am cruise port (5 minutes). Lyft has not found its way here yet, but Uber is ubiquitous - no need for us to rent a car, pay for the parking, along with all the other driving/parking hassles wherever you're going (it's $20 valet at this hotel, for instance).
The hotel has a kind of small entrance that isn't that grand, but the lobby is fairly comfy and cozy (see pix). They have small restaurant called Cafe Pierre and bar, where breakfast is also offered. We supposedly got an upgrade, but it was no huge deal - had they put us one floor lower, the walk-out patio would have been even better. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard DoubleTree deal with room amenities. Except, they bill this as a resort: now, while the pool and grotto etc. are quite quaint and well kept, there's nothing really "resort-y" about this place, except the price! On top of the average of $200-$250 daily rate, they charge you a "resort fee"! And no it's not 10% or $20 (exorbitant enough already if you ask me), but it's a whopping 20% of your rate. So on $250, that's $50. Ouch! That, alone, took it down one star. When we return, we might look for other, less gouge-y, digs - not that easy if I want to stay loyal to Hilton, though.
