Pricey for a burger joint diner but food and service was awesome and quick

Great little breakfast spot. Food reasonably priced and tasty

Great staff, delicious food, quant setting.

The food was presented nicely on our dishes. Our server knee my parents from previous visits and was sure my Dad was filled on his Decaf coffee and that it was made fresh. She talked to my parents. However, my Biscuits and Gravy came and tasted garlicy like my Dads fried rice smelled. The food was good, just not used to so much garlic. Friendly, clean atmosphere.

Me and my husband are pretty easy going when it comes to food and give things a fair shot, but the food here was just not good. My husband tried the big boy burger and it was pretty flavorless. It was burger so you can't really mess it up unless you burn it to death, but it was definitely the worst burger we've had in town. I tried the chicken parmesan and it was inedible. The chicken tasted like it had been previously cooked, got freezer burnt, and then got thrown in a microwave before being plated. It had the texture of gristle and it had zero flavor aside from the shredded cheese half melted over top. It came with "fettuccine", which was just plain noodles with shredded cheese melted over top, and a steamed veggie medley that was complete mush, had no seasoning, and, if you were blindfolded, you wouldn't be able to tell the carrots from the broccoli. There was also no cream or red sauce over the chicken. I took one bite and had to spit it out. My husband has never seen me react to food like that so he tried a bite as well with the same result; it ended up in his napkin. Everything on my plate was either plain or bitter. The onion rings and side salad my husband had were fine. Simple mixed greens that tasted like the stuff you get from a bag at Fred's. We also tried the curry soup after being told it was pretty good with great flavor. Far from great flavor and it got pushed aside after a few bites. It tasted more like a coconut milk rice pudding with an after taste of yellow curry. We are new to the Douglas area and were hopeful having this place so close but we were quite disappointed. We may try this place again in the future but at this point, it's a safer bet just driving a little further to the Hangar 🤷🏽‍♀️

Google
Great restaurant and staff, the Pizza 🍕 , Sandwiches, Salmon dip, Hummas, and Salads are all awesome. Also open late, until 10. Definitely a strong recommendation. Michael with Mountain Sky

Google
Great little place. Very friendly service. My family and I all got different dishes and they were all equally delicious. Ribeye, bacon cheeseburger, chicken parmesan, and chicken strips. The curry soup was fantastic.

Google
One of Juneau's hidden food gems. I save 3 stars for average, 4 for above average and 5 for holy cow--I can't believe it's not butter! Douglas Cafe (Doug Cafe) is one of my favorite local haunts for its casual atmosphere and quality food. Honestly, for eating out in Juneau, between the regular menu and specials, this is one of my favorite places. They're not going to make a major magazine anytime soon but the food is quality American fare. Downsides: The casual atmosphere won't impress your prom date, and I've had better items here and there; but, I've never been disappointed at Doug Cafe.

Yelp
So much wrong I don't even know where to start. Everything here comes out of a can and freezer bag from Costco without the slightest attempt to hide it. The fries tasted like leftover fries they refried. The burger was a pre made frozen patty that was pink on the inside. No flavor, no effort, and no way anyone should eat here. Save yourself the money and go anywhere else but here.

Yelp
Always good food! Burgers and sandwiches are tasty, the Filipino food is excellent and the lumpia is always perfect. The staff is never rude.

Yelp
The cafe is a great, longtime, local establishment. Delicious burgers and sandwiches, plus some excellent dinner specials. Along with The Island Pub, it makes Douglas a premier Juneau dining location.

Yelp
Had another fabulous dinner at Douglas Cafe where the service is fantastic, and the food is plentiful and delicious! It's one of our favorite places to eat in Juneau/Douglas. They serve amazing hamburgers, and that's what they're known for, but they also serve great breakfasts and other specialty dishes. If you're looking for a laid back, diner style dining experience with fantastic food and service, I highly recommend Douglas Cafe as a place to try out!

Yelp
So funny, upon arriving in Juneau, my partner in crime declared his desire for a good burger. My mind went blank. I couldn't recall where in my hometown we could procure a burger to impress my discerning connoisseur. Then whilst playing Pokeman Go, I spotted a truck with a sign that read "Douglas Cafe voted best burger." Eureka! Off we went on a soggy afternoon to this revered establishment. I had the jalapeño cheddar burger and my guy had the mushroom burger. Cooked to perfection and brought by the bonny server Corina. Y'all gotta get some!

Yelp
Went here looking for a great burger from a couple other reviews and a locals recommendation. Pretty disappointed. Pretty sure party had been frozen. Soup was bland. Bun wasn't toasted. It's not hard to make a burger! Come on people! Maybe this place used to be good but it looks like it's gone downhill. For a burger I'll stick to McGivneys...

Yelp
I had a mushroom burger that was delicious!!! 10/10. Perfectly cooked meat and it was absolutely delicious. Was done efficiently and didn't have to wait long for the food. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Just ordered bacon, mushrooms and Swiss cheeseburger, delicious! Burger was juicy and tasty, love crispy fries, cooked perfectly! Would highly recommend this place. I ordered to go and picked it up, but you can still dine in, depending on how many people are currently there, though.

Yelp
It's hard to come up with a more back handed compliment than to say that eating somewhere is inevitable, but for me, eating at the Douglas Cafe is, from time to time, inevitable. I don't live in Douglas. I don't even live in Juneau. But I have the privilege of working at Perseverance Theatre from time to time and when you work at Perseverance it is pretty much inevitable that at some point you will eat at the Douglas Cafe. Originally founded by a wonderful couple I am quite fond of, the Cafe has gone a bit down hill over the years. In recent times the existence and proximity of the Island Pub has also somewhat mitigated the Cafe's appeal. That being said, it still has a lot of charm. The Cafe's Burgers are good (but you're in driving distance from the Hot Bite so it's a mute point in the summer). The salads are really good, but the best thing at the cafe is breakfast. It's not spectacular, but as the Spin Doctors used to say: it's hard to screw up an egg. The Douglas Cafe is extremely and hyperbolically acceptable and normal!

Yelp
Great place for breakfast and burgers. Big portions and the staff is friendly. Non of that pretentious stuff you find in other establishments. Family oriented or mellow first date before the show. I ask for two different burgers rolled into one. They aim to please and don't gouge me for special requests.

Yelp
First, we have been loyal customers of Douglas Cafe for years. Today we called to see if they had reopened yet so we can help do our part to shop local and support our Juneau businesses. Unfortunately they had a gentleman answering the phone who didn't seem to know their menu. It took three minutes attempting to ask for sautéed onions on my burger before the man handed me to the cook. The cook, busy as usual, told me, yes, they can do sautéed onions. He then handed the phone back to the very man who couldn't understand my request for sautéed onions. The second item I tried to order was pot stickers. The man taking my order didn't seem to know what that meant. He then may have gotten upset at the lack of understanding and hung up on me. Needless to say, we will be going elsewhere for dinner tonight to avoid further lack of customer service. Food is epic, new way of taking curbside orders not so epic. Cannot wait until they reopen their dinning area so we don't have another unfortunate encounter.

Yelp
Love going to Douglas Cafe before heading to Perseverance Theatre-- the garlic fried rice is a total fave!!!

Yelp
Since downtown was overly busy with four cruise ships at the dock at the same time we deiced to avoid the crowds of visitors and look for a place for lunch on Douglas Island. We found the Douglas Café-spot on a corner in "downtown" Douglas-with local pick ups parked outside. Just what we wanted-a locally owned spot. It is small on the inside-almost like a converted general store or country drug store but had plenty of well used tables. I ordered the special of the day--pork adobo and my wife had a grilled cheese sandwich. The adobo was flavorful but was a little on the light side(I like a stronger adobo flavor)and had lots of chunks of tender pork on a huge bed of steamed rice--it was way more than I could eat. My wife's grilled cheese was ordered with a sub of pepper jack instead of cheddar and came out perfectly. We enjoyed our meal and conversations with the local folks who were having their lunch as well. Thanks for the friendly staff and customers.

Yelp
Good burgers - huge in fact. Kind of a standard diner from the dawn of time but good,.. and what are you going to do if not go here,.. go to the only other place in town?
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
Alcohol not served, good food, local people, they won't spend much time on you if they don't know you, average food and price for juneau, looks from the outside to be a convenience store,

Yelp
I'm a local and this is a great place to fix your craving , for a big juicy burger!!!!

Doug H.

Yelp
The hamburger here wins local awards as best burger in town. The atmosphere is closer to diner/bar/gas station vibe than a fancy restaurant but you probably won't care as the town is so beautiful that you'll probably be relaxed when you eat there. I don't think I had a cheap bite to eat anywhere in Douglas or Juneau (the two towns are right next to each other enough so that you could just call Douglas a suburb of Juneau). Oh, I definitely remember seeing beer, don't remember if wine was available.

Yelp
Food is real good. My family and I always leave Douglas Cafe very satisfied. We have experienced good service. Very prompt and accurate, but not the friendliest.

Yelp
Cheeseburger for $14. Pre made frozen Costco patty. Fries Costco semi old oil. Onion rings old and chewy. Salad browning and just iceberg lettuce. Expensive. Bad service. Cook handling food barehanded while cleaning. This place is crap. I hope it doesn't make me sick. If it was open during drunk hours it might be ok with enough whiskey to kill the bugs. Truthfully one of the worst places in town. Don't waste your money on bad service and poor quality food.

Yelp
Certainly a local favorite in the Douglas area for decent dinner food. The prices of the meals are pretty high averaging at about $15 a plate. The food is not spectacular, but rather well put together American Food standards like Hamburgers, fries, chicken and so on. I ordered a cheeseburger that was quite tasty. And included in the hefty price I got fries, salad (or soup). Some for all the food you get its not that bad in price, just way too much food.

Yelp
A little spendy, but it's a nice little place with good food. We usually eat here before we go to a play at Perseverance since it's right next door.

Yelp
I haven't eaten here in a while so there's always the possibility that they've gone downhill in the past year. Anyway, they have really good burgers. Their beef patties are good and their halibut burger was really, really good. I remember their fries being excellent as well. I've never had a problem with the wait staff. Fairly sure that if you order a pop, it comes in a big-ass cup. Pretty laid back atmosphere.

Yelp
There are few times I've been more underwhelmed by a burger. Non-toasted bun with a dry, pre made, frozen patty. The "soup" was just a can of black beans served with sour cream & crackers. Biggest waste of $15 in Juneau, & I'm here a couple days a week, year 'round. This place mighta use to be something. Don't bother.

Yelp
Awards for best burger place in Juneau. BEST ONION RINGS I've ever had. I have lived here since 1979 and have tasted onion rings everywhere else in town as well as other places when traveling (can you guess my favorite deep fired food??). Has affordable Alaskan Brews on tap (often one of the elusive seasonal rough drafts). This is a laid back diner that will bring back memories for anybody who has a fondness of diners. Last time I ate there (June 2011): 1/3 lb Burger and Onion Rings for under $10. Alaska Brew on tap.

Yelp
Cajun Chicken is my go to sandwich. Burgers are good, but I wouldn't say best in town. I work nearby so this diner is close. They have beer on tap, sometimes some good stuff from AK Brewery. They have daily soups, Wednesday is usually coconut curry (which every one at my work raves about) and it is good but expensive for what you get.

Yelp
Food was so-so and way overpriced, even for Juneau. I can make box pancakes and frozen sausages at home for cheaper than the $40 it cost to take my daughters out to breakfast.

Yelp
Great breakfast! The service fantastic! So attentive - makes you feel like family.. went in thinking of a burger, but was captivated by the pumpkin pancakes! The serving was big enough for all three of us ! It's a neighborhood favorite!
