Douro Suites

For my birthday, my wife surprised me with a weekend at Douro Suites — and I couldn’t have imagined a better place to mark the occasion. Tucked away on the peaceful banks of the Douro River, this small boutique hotel feels like a secret, quietly waiting to be discovered. From the moment we arrived, time seemed to slow down. The views are breathtaking, the silence is restorative, and every detail is thoughtfully designed to bring comfort and calm. Our suite was spacious and elegant, with a private terrace with pool overlooking the river — the perfect setting to disconnect, reflect, and simply enjoy each other’s company. Morning began with birdsong and light gently pouring in through the trees. It felt like the world had paused just for us. What makes Douro Suites truly special isn’t just the beauty of the place — it’s the warmth of the people. The team welcomed us with genuine kindness and made sure we had everything we needed to make the most of this celebration. It was a weekend of quiet luxury, heartfelt moments, and deep gratitude. A place where simplicity meets elegance, and where you’re reminded of how meaningful it is to stop, breathe, and savour life — especially when shared with someone you love. We had the most wonderful three days at the Douro Suites Hotel! The hotel is quite small and exclusive, the rooms are very spacious with a beautiful view onto the river and the staff was incredibly kind and attentive. The breakfast was a nicely arranged little buffet with lots of sweet treats and they even had vegan alternatives for milk and yoghurt. ❤️ A great area to take little hikes through the beautiful and lush nature or take a day trip to a vineyard.

Activate your White Lotus life on a budget. One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Portugal. Staff was super attentive and everything was great. The room was spacious and had a ton of accommodations like a mini kitchenette, robes, slippers, and bed side chocolate. The tub in the room makes you feel like a baller, I almost threw euros in the air. The grounds are gorgeous and meticulous and the pool was perfect in every way. While they don’t have a restaurant, recommend getting the breakfast option because it’s lavish and you can order a picnic basket for dinner if you’d like. I’d like to say that I actually did the adult thing and enjoyed on the balcony but I ate it in bed while watching Top Gun 2 and it was just as spectacular. Do it and avoid staying at the weird concrete 5 star building next door.

As a group of five couples, we stayed here and had a fantastic experience. Two couples stayed in Premium Suites, two in Terrace Suites, and one in the Lake House. The view was phenomenal, the breakfast and "picnic" dinner was just right, and we even jumped in the pools (indoor and outdoor). While it was a little ways to Douro Valley and the Vinho Verde regions, we could not have asked for a better location for our gathering to celebrate a milestone birthday!

We spent three nights in a beautifully renovated old house overlooking the river in this just gorgeous estate. Everything was beautiful, tranquil, various water sports options, friendly staff and a beautifully presented breakfast. |Only caveat is that this location requires driving, wherever you need to go. Restaurant, wineries etc. And what might look like a short drive on the map will be long and tedious drive through curve after curve after curve, up and down the mountains. Exhausting.

Amazing place! But disgusting coffee and pizza

A very nice hotel. Good rooms and super view over the river. Staff very friendly. Our room had a hot tub, although the water could have been hotter. Only real criticism pertains to food. We visited off season and we offered a very good breakfast. But I could imagine that the small dining area would be overwhelmed if the hotel was full. Biggest issue is the complete lack of dining options close by. Restaurants are 20 minute drive away on narrow roads.

Excellent! A wonderful hotel right on the banks of the Douro River. The suits are comfortable and well equipped. We were looked after by the very friendly staff - Carla, Tamiâ, Silvia and the kitchen staff. Always a smile and very helpful. ||The hotel has been designed in a very tastefully manner and with greatest love for detail. Just beautiful ! The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of freshly prepared foods and is very beautifully decorated. The picnic basket is a must!
