Douskos Guest House

Unfortunately I would not recommend the rear rooms in this hotel as they were so damp we were quite ill afterwards. I complained through Booking . Com but they were not forthcoming. The kitchen area also isn’t stocked up so there were no cups or milk to make tea . Views from the roof were excellent and it’s right in the harbour . Steep stairs to get there but we knew this . Very expensive for the quantity of room .

We stayed at the double room with balcony Arriving at the guest house there was no one there to see us at our room. We called a number that was there and they said someone would come in 2’. It took them 15’ to send someone over. The toilet seat was jammed and moving The a/c was not working well and the days we stayed were cold days so there wasn’t a way to warm up the room. I would not recommend this guest house when you visit the island.

This place was quite lovely for a 3 star hotel. The check in service was friendly and helpful|with navigating the island, and we had help with our luggage up the stairs (thank you!). Great location - very close to the port. We had a small balcony and the amenities were good - kettle and mini bar fridge to make a cup of tea in the morning. |The bed was probably what made this place 3 star, but in saying that, for the price, I would recommend this place to stay.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. There are several properties under the same management (you go to another one by the harbour for breakfast), and we felt this one suited us best. It's a convenient location, yet away from the majority of the noise, and the room was spacious and modern, yet in an older building. ||Breakfast, as mentioned, is in a different location, with an amazing view of the harbour, not to be missed. ||I don't really have any criticisms at all, when we had issues or questions, they were addressed, and sorted. This just felt like an all round good option, and we'd definitely stay here again.

We visited Hydra for two nights/days in September 2024. We stayed at the Douskos Guest House in the “Big” room. The room was very spacious as the name implies, and Angeliki (the hostess for Douskos) was very welcoming and helpful. We never tried the included breakfast, so can’t comment on that. However, there were several issues with our room: |1. Most important—the shower head mount was broken, which meant you have to hold the sprayer the entire time you take a shower. Angeliki did try to have it fixed while we were there, but even with the repair, you still had to hold the sprayer because, when the sprayer was put on the new bracket, the shower spray was directed to the wall and couldn’t be adjusted.|2. We were very close to the harbor and the clock tower…which chimed every half hour starting at 6am and stopping at 10pm…so either you’re up at 6am or you can’t go to sleep before 10pm.|3. There is also a lot of street noise, particularly from the restaurant just below the windows in the room…even with all windows closed and curtains drawn, we could hear the loud music and exuberant guests of the restaurant until very late.|4. The room is on the second floor. There is no elevator, so you will be carrying your luggage up steep, curving stairs to the room

Location was perfect. No climb at all. Staff were so lovely, especially Angeliki who was helpful, funny and friendly. Her recommendations were spot on and were perfect for our visit. The room was great, we even had a balcony! The swimming towels were a great bonus! I will be back!!

We loved Duskos Guest House. The hotel is small and our room was charming. We had a view of the harbor where we could watch the yachts and fishing boats coming and going as well as all the action on the street. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace had an equally stunning view. Juliette, the manager, was super helpful and accommodating and was kind enough to let me practice speaking Greek. We would absolutely recommend this hotel if you are looking for character and charm!

The hosts were helpful and kind. The location was perfect, just off the beaten path. The rooms were unique and interesting! The bathroom floor was very very slippery when wet. The steep stairs led to a ceiling too low for my husband. The bed is very firm and small. A machine that started up every few minutes was just outside our window, while it church bell rang on the hour as well. Room service didn't provide new towels. Breakfast was down the street. Great service. Steep stairs to a rooftop garden cafe with incredible views. Even though I didn't sleep well, I think I'd stay again.
