Loved the doctor and support staff! Great customer service. Go above and beyond to put pets and their families first. Amazing facilities and technology as well. Great comfort in knowing they're there all day every day... if/when we need them again. BIG THANKS to all of them! **Note: Pics are post-surgery, after large tumor at elbow was removed. Incision pic is right after sutures were taken out.

The wonderful staff and doctors at DoveLewis helped my family through one of our scariest moments with compassion and competence. After over a month of attempting to get a lump on our beloved dog Barley's neck diagnosed, the situation became urgent over the weekend. We called around in a panic trying to find help for him and ended up being transferred DoveLewis, not sure if he was going to make it. Dr. Hilfman quickly stabilized him, diagnosed the issue as an abscess, and drained it. They had to keep him overnight but let us visit him as much as we wanted which was a big comfort for everyone. We were able to get him in quickly for a follow-up surgery with Dr. Magee, and we could not be happier to have him home and on the road to a full recovery! Barley is usually frightened of vet visits, and all of the staff here were excellent at gaining his trust. All of us were treated with kindness and we were given updates every step of the way. I will sleep better at night knowing DoveLewis is here if we need it and would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone experiencing a veterinary emergency.

When pet has health issues, Dove Lewis is my first thought for help. Tabby was about 16 years old , injured her spine in 3 places from a 3 rd floor fall to marble floor as kitten. She handled her health issues as well as she could and was great lap cat, she stayed as many hours on my lap as she felt welcome. It has been a long 5 days since she passed. When veterinarian explain her issues I agreed it was humane to let her pass.

Dr. Marshall and the team at Dove Lewis saved my cat’s life three years ago when he had a series of urethral obstructions. He was hospitalized for just over a week, and during that time, we received multiple daily updates via email, phone calls, and texts about his status. Dr. Marshall is one of the most compassionate veterinarians I’ve ever met - she really took the time to explain my cat’s treatment options in a way that was both professional and genuinely caring. I’m beyond lucky to have my best friend here with me today & am so grateful for the work the people at Dove Lewis do. ❤️

Yesterday, I received a heartfelt condolence card from the DoveLewis team. While my husband and I are still mourning the sudden loss of our beloved cat, Apple, who passed away over a week ago due to heart failure and had to be euthanized, the professionalism, compassion, and respect shown by everyone at the hospital—from the doctors to the front desk staff—brought us immense comfort during this difficult time. I will never forget that early morning before sunrise, in the hospital’s comfort room, where the staff patiently guided us through the necessary arrangements with such warmth and care. The way the hospital staff gently wrapped Apple’s body in a blanket, treating him as delicately as a newborn baby, deeply touched our hearts. When we expressed our wish to witness Apple’s cremation, the hospital staff first called their partnered facility to confirm whether this service was available. Upon learning that it was not, they immediately informed us and provided contact information for other agencies that could accommodate our request. They also processed a refund promptly, which helped us navigate this emotional process more smoothly. Thanks to their support, we were able to arrange Apple’s final journey and bring his ashes home the very next day, allowing him to be with us once again. It is clear that everyone at DoveLewis deeply cares about animals and their families. For that, I am truly grateful. I am also considering joining their Pet Loss Support Program. Thank you, DoveLewis, you made an incredibly painful experience a little more bearable, and we will always remember how you honored Apple’s life with such love and respect.

A few weeks ago I took my dog, Kya, to the vet because it seemed like she had a little cold for 4 days that wasn’t going away. We were sent immediately to an emergency hospital that gave us an end of life speak two days later, it was devastating. My vet friend recommended to go to DoveLewis for a second opinion and I cannot express in words how grateful I am that we were able to be taken care of by Dr. Katz and her team. They were kind, considerate, realistic, caring and loving. Kya was an anxious girl and it shocked me each time I visited how much she loved all of the staff. When finally we realized that Kya wasn’t going to make it, the team was so wonderful in how they cared for us and helped us to find an at-home help to help Kya peacefully pass. It’s been a week and I still cannot thank y’all enough for giving Kya her best chance while giving her such care and love. Thank you also for taking care of me 💕 while she was admitted, I got multiple updates a day about her, I received pictures, and when I was in visiting if the doctors were able to, they would come meet me in-person. 10/10 would recommend

With the arrival of two very busy kittens in our household, we have had two occasions in the past few months when after-hours care was needed. Our cats have wonderful ongoing veterinary services from the At Home Veterinary Services practice, but like most practices, office hours are not 24-hour service. I turned to DoveLewis for after-hours care having had some past very good experiences over several years with other cats. For these new members of the family, one issue was at 2 AM in the morning and most recently at 8 PM. During both visits the intake was thorough. I was informed of the process got feedback, the staff was very helpful, and the vets explained things thoroughly with options, costs, risks and benefits. The most recent visit was more complex---both kittens had consumed part of a silicone pouch in a determined effort to get at some treats when I had inadvertently left the pouch on a counter. After x-rays, procedures to remove bits of the silicone from their stomach and an overnight stay for one of the two, all is well. For this 2nd visit the clinic was very busy and had to triage some clearly very sick animals ahead of others. I was able to observe how efficient and caring the staff was to those other clients as well. I was kept informed of what was happening for my kittens and I felt that they were in a safe, calm environment as they were roomed not long after our arrival---which helped to keep them at ease too. DoveLewis is a great resource for the community at times that can be stressful and uncertain. I appreciate having them as a resource. And, the free coffee drinks machine is welcome for those late-night visits!

We are grateful to DoveLewis for correctly diagnosing and treating our friend Rufus, a year-old race. car of a pooch who woofs down his food and had a chunk lodge in his esophagus. The surgeon pushed it into his stomach and he was on the road to recovery! The quality of care is excellent but, as is the case with human emergency rooms, plan for a long wait and a substantial bill.

Yelp
No better place to take your sick puppy. Wonderful staff, quick to get help. Professional vets cover all areas of medicine. Patsy even has a cardiologist. thank you for giving her a longer life.

Yelp
I just got back from taking my cat in who swallowed part of her toy. Entire staff was so nice despite what must be a very hectic night shift. They explained everything in detail and, even though I was a mess, were super caring and compassionate.

Yelp
I hope everyone gets the chance to stumble upon this animal hospital. I've taken my beloved dog here in every big emergency that we've had. The 3rd trip to the hospital was the last one. Our little one passed on his 18th birthday under unforeseen health circumstances that nobody could have predicted. I'm so happy that he got to pass away under his terms. The DoveLewis staff was very kind and understanding in our time of grief. They even waited several hours for a family member to get down from Seattle to have all of his girls around him. I hope everyone gets the care they need, much like we did. I trusted DoveLewis with my baby's life and they delivered. Your fur baby is the most precious thing in the world when it's also your childhood pet and pseudo little brother, so I wanted the best for him. He passed with dignity. Thank you DoveLewis. Onyx's legacy will live on forever.

Yelp
Avoid Dove Lewis Emergency. After a traumatic experience with my 15-year-old dog, I strongly advise having an alternate emergency plan. Despite arriving in an emergency, we endured a six-hour wait, even though the waiting room was nearly empty, and encountered indifferent and unqualified staff who failed to recognize the severity of my dog's critical condition. We asked for an update after an agonizing five hours of my dog waiting in pain, we were given an unwarranted dismissive response, claiming that other cases were more urgent. --offered no comfort relief or another evaluation. I left and went to another clinic, where my dog was seen immediately. My dog's condition, initially dismissed as non-urgent, turned out to be life-threatening. This experience had devastating consequences. I am completely disgusted by the complete failure of compassion. The poor treatment turned out to be the positive outcome that compelled us to leave. I would never recommend anyone bring their dog here.

Yelp
It's taken me a very long time to write this review, but here goes. I hope that anyone looking for any kind of veterinary care for their pet will find this information helpful. This is not our regular vet, we had a very unexpected emergency situation with our beloved senior dog one evening; it was after 8pm on the weekend & our vet and all other regular vet facilities were closed. I frantically called the handful of emergency vets that were open at the time, they all told me they couldn't see us because they were short staffed. This was right after the pandemic & most places had limited in-person appointments for standard care visits, so I'm sure emergency facilities were even more challenged. I called Dove Lewis, it was last on my list only because it was furthest away. I tried to relay what was happening with our old boy...I was panicking & knew we had very little time. The receptionist stopped me short and just said "it's ok, come in right away we'll be here waiting & ready". In that moment I can't explain the relief I felt knowing we'd be able to get him help. She kindly told me exactly where they were located & how to get there from my part of town. When we got there a kind stranger saw us struggling to carry our big guy in, and helped us carry him inside. I think without his help, the extra time it would have taken us to get him inside...we may not have even gotten the chance to say goodbye to our sweet sweet boy. I never got his name but think of him often, he jumped from his car to help us without a word being exchanged. The team at Dove Lewis couldn't have reacted any quicker, they rushed our guy into the back & immediately went to work. After a few minutes the vet came out to explain what our boy was suffering from, exactly what had failed within his 15 year old body; and that we only had a few minutes left to say goodbye. There was nothing that could be done. The rest is still a bit of a blur, but the vet tech offered to hold our other dog while we went into the operating room to see our guy. We were able to see him and tell him how much we loved him. We held his paws and told him how much he meant to us, I was a wreck and the staff gave us space to be in those feelings. I know he was still with us when I thanked him for the 15 years of love & friendship he gave, and then in a breath; he was gone. The staff helped us get through the rest of the process as best they could, reunited us with our other dog who was extremely upset; and made sure we were ok to get home. The week after he passed, we received a very kind handwritten card from the team, as well as a certificate of donation (I think a tree had been planted) in our guy's name. It was an unexpected gesture that I won't forget. To the staff at Dove Lewis, thank you so very much for being there for us; for trying to help -and above all thank you for being so kind when we needed it most.

Yelp
They are open 24/7. So we were able to be seen on a Sunday late morning. I was told it would be a wait, but our puppy was ill so we waited. Everyone was nice and informative. I asked questions and got answers. We were given a type of after visit summary. It explained what we came in for, the care given and how to help in recovery at home. We are happy with the care and service. We recommend Dove Lewis for emergency pet care.

Yelp
Drove 3 hrs to come here because there was no open exotic vets near me on a sunday, I knew I was going to probably have to put my guinea pig down because I knew he was in pain and I just wanted him comfortable but Im glad I did take the time to come here because they were so compassionate with the process, they were prompt with getting us in with the doctor and discussing options and what would be best for my little boy, they walked me through the process and it was so peaceful and he was comfortable the whole time, it put the both of us at peace. Thank you doctor and staff at dove lewis

Yelp
If you're in need of emergency care for an elderly pet, DO NOT go to Dove Lewis! I recently took my 21 year old kitty to them for emergency treatment. She was very ill, and the staff took her from me. I was not allowed to stay with her. I had to sit in the lobby for over three hours. My poor baby spent the final hours of her life in a cage, alone, without me. This is unacceptable. I will NEVER go to Dove Lewis again.

Kathi F.

Yelp
We have a kitty with a rare blood type and as yet, indeterminate disease. Dove Lewis is the only emergency 24/7 clinic we could find that has a blood bank, even the type B needed and a 24/7 staff that could start a transfusion in the middle of the night, if needed. The staff is welcoming, well trained, and seem glad to see you and your furry kid, even on a busy night. Our regular vet and other emergency clinic we use are also excellent. But Dove Lewis can take on that rare case with skill and compassion. They communicate with us regularly and are as welcoming at 11 PM as they are at 11 AM. We still have a long way to go before our kitty is out of the woods, but so far, we're glad we came.

Yelp
I need to thank Dove Lewis. No one wants to have to visit them, but I'm so grateful they are there when needed. I recently had my third visit to them. My first visit was in ~2017 when I learned my dog is allergic to bees. Then in ~2019 when she ate half a chocolate bar. Both times she was able to get the emergency care needed, quickly. The staff discussed options and, while it was expensive, ultimately their actions prevented a terrible outcome. Just last month in 2024 we had another bee sting scare. On a walk, my pup jerked her paw back and ran, then started acting tired and hurt. We rushed to check in at Dove Lewis in case she went into anaphylactic shock. Thankfully after about an hour waiting in triage, she showed no symptoms so we departed (with a full refund of our deposit). I'm grateful for the peace of mind being there provided. I hope I don't have to visit again soon!

Yelp
It's sad that they pick and choose who they want to help and what animal they want to save. I am on so suit food stamps and in a domestic violence relationship right now. Trying to find housing in my beautiful little baby puppy has pimitra. Which is eventually going to kill? Or I've gone there 4 × 2 get their help. They've turned me away each time. I wasn't approved for the care credit. I begged and pleaded with them to please save my little girl. And they still turned me away. They have no heart. And it's really sad that they take care of animals for a living. It takes a certain kind of person to turn away an animal. That's literally dying right in front of your face. Don't go there. All they care about is money.

Yelp
Dove Lewis isn't deserving of a single star. Zero wasn't an option. This organization is top heavy with front office staff and very few medically trained personnel. Figure out an emergency plan for your pet now and exclude this place. I hold them responsible for the pain and suffering my dog endured during a six hour wait. We ended up leaving. I noticed several people on here with similar problems. A PR person reaches out to them. Save yourkeystrokes Molly. Your organization isn't worth another moment of my time.

Yelp
Our pup had a benign tumor in his stomach that continued to grow. * Our local vet said it wasn't an issue; that if removed it would likely grow back, but it began to interfere with his comfort... sitting, restroom, getting up on his favorite chair, etc. * I consulted with DoveLewis and given the ever growing tumor, his quality of life was paramount. * Surgery was successful and the doctor and staff were absolutely amazing. * Communication often seems like a lost art, but not at DoveLewis. I never dealt with a recording; delayed contact, etc. They are organized and knowledgeable, with marvelous surgeons and staff. They answered all concerns and provided tremendous after care. * This is our pups second time at DoveLewis. He was struck by a pickup five years ago and we transported him to DoveLewis. Thanks to them he is still with us. * Thank you for everything.

Yelp
This week we had our first visit with Dr Katz (internal medicine) and she arranged for a neurology consult to take place immediately, saving us an additional trip. Both Dr. Katz & Dr. Pastina (neuro) were incredibly compassionate and thorough & I was impressed at every step of our two hour appointment. This was by far the most pleasant experience receiving bad news about our beloved Magnus. Veterinary care is expensive, speciality care even more so, and yet the cost seemed so reasonable. I can't recommend this speciality clinic enough. Well worth the one hour plus drive from our hometown.

Yelp
I took my dog Sully In yesterday morning, quite early and everyone there could not have been more lovely, supportive, professional, and I know they saved my boys life! He went in because he wasn't eating, and he was projectile vomiting, even water. It turns out he had a severe blockage that resulted in a very complicated surgery, and they worked their magic! I get to pick him up today, but they have regularly updated me throughout the whole process (even sent me a photo) and treated me with kindness and more importantly, treated my boy with love and truly the best caring could get! Thank you to everyone there!
google avatar

Karina M.

Yelp
I was advised by my vet to bring my kitty cat to ER because she hasn't been eating or drinking for 2 days, she was vomiting. I spent the 6 hours because my cat wasn't in a critical condition. They ran blood work, gave her fluids and nutrition IV. They have me anti-nausea pills to go and referred me to internal medicine specialist. It's ER service it's a bit pricy and long wait time but they are being transparent about it. If you can't pay the bill they offer Velvet assistance program.

Diane K.

Yelp
My dog has been throwing up for 4 days and unable to keep his food down. I took him into urgent care. $213 deposit just to be seen by vet. We finally get seen and their first recommendation is to get an x-ray for any obstructions. I know my dog, and as long as I have known my dog, he has NEVER eaten anything abnormal. I told them I trust my instinct that he doesn't need an x-ray and they just gave me a blank stare and silence for 20 seconds like I don't know my dog. They INSISTED with the x-rays which I felt like I was bullied into saying ok. The x-rays come back, and NOTHING was to be FOUND - like I said they wouldn't. Then the doctor proceeds to say let's just treat this symptomatically... with just an anti-nausea shot, and if he proceeds to throw up on the shot, there's an underlying issue, if he throws up 48 hours after the shot... there's an underlying issue and he needs bloodwork done... After $834 vet bill... just to be treated symptomatically and be BULLIED into getting an x-ray that wasn't even necessary to have. I felt like I was bamboozled and that DoveLewis is money hungry. My dog is acting fine now after his shot.

Jordan Lori T.

Yelp
If I could give a zero I would. I took my dog in because she was very sick. Bloody stool, not eating, weak. Just a very sick little dog. Because I am very financially challenged due to my health, they said they could only do triage, but no tests or other care. Essentially, all they did for my dog was give her fluids and send her home with more fluids for me to administer (an actual IV). I got her home and did as they said, giving her the first dose of the fluids as directed. Ten minutes later she had a seizure and passed away in my arms. Because I'm currently poor, my dog had to die...or so it seems to Dove Lewis. If they had tested her, they might have found out what was wrong and given her the correct treatment. But...money seems to mean more to them than the animal they're supposed to treat. Thanks for NOTHING, Dove Lewis. You let my Gracie die because money means more to you. Damn you to hell.

Lisa J.

Yelp
The caring and very experienced team at DoveLewis saved my Maine Coon kitty. Thank you so much! Truly the highest level of care in the PDX/Vancouver area.

Shirley F.

Yelp
From my initial phone call to checkout everyone was so courteous and considerate. The vet explained in detail his conversation with the poison center, their own tests, and how to administer the medication he sent home with me. I was so frazzled by the time I got there but I knew Liv was in good hands and she is doing well 1 week later.

Yelp
For an emergency room they sure took their sweet time seeing my pet! ( 3 hours!! )I don't recommend this " emergency room" go give your money to another emergency room!

Yelp
I had to say goodbye to my pup recently and we ended up taking him to Dove Lewis. I was so glad they were open and able to accommodate us. We were put in a comfort room and were able to have a good amount of time with him. Everyone was very caring. It is never easy losing an animal so I appreciated the compassion we were shown. They also sent a card in the mail, which was really nice.

Yelp
I feel so fortunate to have this facility so close by in Portland. They have helped me with both of my dogs emergencies, which they survived thanks to their expert care. I also have had to bring in injured wildlife and they are always so kind and helpful. I can't imagine how staff remains so empathetic and heartfelt in this work, so many sick animals each day and their people having terrible days, but the staff is always always so amazing and educated! It's expensive but worth it, they do amazing work here.

Yelp
10,000 to save my cat it's sad they take advantage of me when we needed help the credit they offered is 800 a month for no interest but who can afford that

Rhonda A.

Yelp
They saved my Lucy's life she had Parvo she is now doing well she's a little thin but she'll get her weight back but thanks to them showing me how to do her fluids and giving her the medication that she needed and the vet was just so amazing she just has an amazing gift when it comes to animals thank you guys very much

Yelp
1st of all I love that this location is open much later than other vets. Yes it's an emergency room so there may be a surcharge depending on your situation. It's also in the middle of Northwest downtown Portland. We literally had to drive-through people who were standing in the middle of the street with the fire burning in a 50 gallon barrel because it is downtown Portland. But the parking lot itself for this location seemed pretty safe and it was a fairly good size. There is some street parking around but I was able to easily find parking lot parking. It's well lit and you can notify the building by the dove on the sign. Going inside the doors the lobby was very clean and actually welcoming even though it can be a traumatic place. I called ahead after calling many different locations. I was very concerned about my nearly 18 year old Chihuahua who I've had for 16 plus years. I felt like at the point she was suffering and I wasn't sure what to do. The triage team that answered the phone was extraordinarily helpful, friendly and compassionate. I really couldn't ask for much more. I called VCA and a few other vets that couldn't get me in for several days. Ultimately after discussing the symptoms it was decided without an exam that likely I might have to consider euthanasia but they invited me in to see what was going on with my baby girl. They cannot give advice over the phone. They asked me questions about my name and my dog's name. They then called ahead to let them know I was coming. The triage team also let me know that euthanasia animal cases are put to the front of the line so that you don't have to wait. My poor baby was raspy and breathing and had a distended stomach as well as had stopped eating and very little drinking. But her eyes told me she wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to me. It was the hardest decision I've had to make in my life. At no time did I feel rushed or hurried. Kayleen at the front desk was beyond helpful. Not only did she greet me and take my case she also led us to the room, checked in on us, went over the options, went over the pricing and just gave us time generally. When the pricing was very different from what I had been told on the phone she actually went to bat for me to see if there was something that could be done. This is so compassionate during a very traumatic time. The quick exam was going to cost $175 and the doctor was with us for about 30 seconds to a minute and there was no testing of my dog other than listening to her heart and breathing. The location does have comfort rooms which have lower lighting and couches so that you're comfortable if you have to say goodbye to your pet. We could not get into one because there were other people who were taking advantage of them. My parents had mobility issues so although they had reserved a room for me upstairs initially we couldn't get to them. So we were in a room downstairs. They did take my little girl and initially do a check in on her. The doctor then came in and confirmed my suspicions. Also my worst fear. She also surmised that my baby had congestive heart failure and cancer if some sort with fluid trapped in her belly. They inserted a catheter line into her paw while she was outside of the room. They then brought her in wrapped in a very soft and warm blanket. It was like she knew that we were saying goodbye and yet she didn't really want to. No matter how much pain and suffering she may have been feeling. They let us have as much time as we wanted. Then the doctor came in and administered essentially a Sleeping medication or sedation. Once my baby was asleep they injected the euthanasia or the heart stopping medicine. I believe my little girl went to sleep knowing she was loved. And in large part due to the assistance of this location... During such a very traumatic event this is definitely a place you could go to and feel important and valued. From the phone call and notification to them that I was heading down ----all the way through to letting us go out a side door to leave without waking past everyone waiting with their pets - the entire staff was extraordinarily compassionate. They partner with a company that can cremate your dog with memorials if you would like.

Mary P.

Yelp
I sat in the waiting room for 4 hours with my poor keet in a back room sick and all alone I had to complain in tears , 3x's about my bird, only to be told they had no avian vet that day!! My bird died because of their lack of moral attitude toward my baby! Shame on you terrible, awful people. If I had the money I would sue this outfit !

Renate C.

Yelp
My son and I had a wonderful experience at DoveLewis. Everyone was patient with us even though we were beside ourselves with worry for our Lily Dog. Doctor Suh was excellent in explaining everything. The Triage Nurse was excellent and kind. The wait was not too long either. Of course that depends on how many serious cases are needing to be seen. Glad Dove Lewis is here in Portland. Good to know were to go in an emergency. Thanks again Renate and Paul

Yelp
Amazing experience. I'm new to Portland and needed to bring in our cat who broke his leg. The customer service was wonderful and quick. My baby needed surgery and all the planning and updates and follow ups exceeded my expectations. They have a credit card option available too that is easy to sign up for if needed and my cat seemed pretty calm around the staff so I would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Wonderful doctors who diagnosed our dog's injury and got her on the right meds when our regular doctor couldn't. Can't say enough about their professionalism and follow up. The work they do round the clock is heroic!

The only good thing about Dove lewis is their expensive coffee maker. Is that where the donations go. They sent me and my dog home with meds Tomales her comfortable and a names of people who do humane euthanasia. Sure I needed financial help but that's nothelp.. I took my dog to another vet. That the office visit was 1/4 th that of Dove lewis. And got a real diagnosis. I DONT HAVE TO KILL MY DOG!!!! they are not compassionate and don't care. Bogus lies.. my new vet charges 58$ for office visit.Dove lewis 210$ xraysat my new vet 138$ Dove Lewis 500 to 600$ . Run from dove lewis run

Yelp
This has been the worst experience I have had at an animal ER in over 20 yrs! I came in at 8:15pm and they took my dog back at around 9pm. It is now 1:30am and they have not seen my dog. When I went to ask about her at 11pm, they said things got busy. When I went back to ask again at 1:15am, they suggested that if It would be easier, I can make an appointment for tomorrow. How insulting is that!

Yelp
I brought my 16 year old Scruffy boy in last week, he need to be put to sleep. We didn't have to wait but five minutes before we got to go into their comfort room. They were all so sweet and gentle with my pup. They made everything as painless as it could be, and I could just tell that they truly felt genuinely bad for me and having to say goodbye to him. Out of all the places I've experienced when having to put an animal to sleep, this place was 100% the best. Such empathetic employees there. Thank you for making it just a smidge easier sending my boy off over the rainbow bridge.

Yelp
My kitty Sweetpea was elderly at 18yrs old and for almost 2days stopped eating food and drinking water. She just laid and slept on the couch barely moving . I knew I needed help to get her over the Rainbow Bridge instead of letting her suffer. I called DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital for information on my next steps . They were compassionate, kind and knowledgeable and understanding with my wishes . They greeted me immediately upon my arrival and were so loving as we filled out the paperwork for Euthanasia. Someone was right by my side to comfort me through this difficult time. I highly recommend them for all your beloved pets needs . Spotless Hospital and knowledgable professionals.

Yelp
Got pretty good care I think -- they took my concerns seriously and helped my cat regain his appetite after days of not eating. However, their organization is atrocious. Idk what systems they're using but they don't work. I have begged for my receipts and invoices to be emailed to me four times, to four different people, and when I sat down to file my insurance claim I realized I'm still missing two. How is that even possible! Also, when I dropped my cat off for an ultrasound, I came at the time I was asked to pick him up to be told that he wasn't ready. When I asked when he'd be ready the receptionist said she didn't know. So I left and 15 minutes later I got a call to come get him. So annoying! I'm grateful for my cat's health because if he had been grievously ill I can't imagine dealing with this.

Yelp
In a scary emergency with our pup, the staff at DoveLewis were amazing, calm, professional, and responsive. Our dog was well taken care of, updates were detailed and compassionate, and the difficult topic of finances was handled with care and understanding. I highly recommend DoveLewis for any emergency with your furry family.

Yelp
My pupper needed emergency services and I had called several emergency vets who were either overwhelmed or weren't taking new patients due to patient overload. One of the 24 hour emergency vets recommended this place and I appreciate them taking in my dog so quickly. There is a private parking lot and this is in the industrial area of North Portland. We were greeted quickly as there were 3 receptionists doing the intaking. Since my dog was in critical condition, he was taken back right away and given pain relief. He was evaluated by the vet and it was agreed upon to do emergent surgery and they allowed me to go home until my dog was ready to be picked up. This office was very busy, there were non stop pets coming in with bowel obstruction, hit by cars and high fevers. There is a nice size waiting room with bench seating, bathrooms and complimentary coffee and tea. There was also a few vending machines and free wifi. This place does stop taking patients at 11pm but they treat everyone that is checked in at the time. I finally got a call at 3am to come pick up my baby and I was given very clear instructions on his care and medications. No one wants to have to have pet emergencies but it's nice to know where I can take my puppers in a pinch.

Yelp
What do you need in an emergency? People that are calm, kind and knowledgeable. It was about 6am on a Sunday morning, my son woke me up that our American Bully's face was so swollen her eyes were shut. It would have been comical had it not been terrifying. I was on the phone with them & there within a half hour. They took her back right away and made sure her vitals were good, gave her some meds and monitored her for about an hour. She's okay now. Some kind of allergic reaction. The staff were all friendly, the cost was absolutely reasonable and I'm grateful they were there to help. They do have a parking lot & take Apple Pay.

Yelp
2 weekends ago my 2 year old spunky Golden Retriever, Jazzy, ended up at Dove Lewis because she couldn't resist the temptation of putting something in her mouth she shouldn't. Anyone with a Golden can probably relate. However, this time was more serious. She lunged at a chunk of wood (not stick) and eventually swallowed it. After talking to my vet and even a closer ER Hospital I ended up at Dove Lewis. I knew based on human emergency hospitals my day would be long and not cheap. Fortunately I have pet insurance. I was pretty upset because I knew she could not pass this chunk of wood. From front desk, vet assistants to physicians they were kind, loving to Jazzy and laid out step by step of what to expect and options. She had to stay overnight to clear her stomach for an endoscopy and if that didn't work surgery to open her stomach. Fortunately, the endoscopy worked and she came home the next afternoon. I am not the type to run to a doctor at little things and most definitely not to an emergency veterinarian but I am glad they were there.

Yelp
Willow, our dog presented at Dove Lewis haviing been bitten by a bee. She was in anaphylactic shock and required emergency hospitalization and overnight treatment. The doctors at Dove Lewis Hospital were right in their diagnosis and treated both us and our dog with kindness. It is a great animal hospital.

Yelp
God forbid you have an actual emergency. This place is all about the $$$. NOT THE PET. Not at all. They actually meet you in the parking lot with a number of how much you will owe before you walk in the door. Disgusting business.

Yelp
When we walked in the front door I knew we were in the right place. friendly and helpful, the veterinarian was amazing and clearly knew what she was doing. we walked out of there with the proper medications and dosages and my dog felt better within an hour and is now all healed up. Thank you Dove Lewis and Dr. Gorman.

Yelp
When you have a sick animal and it's the weekend, you want to know that your pet will get timely care. After triage, she said as medicated for pain, which was nice because 5 hours later, when she saw a vet, I was told the findings and the options. Took another A two hours for treatment but my pet was not near death, just in pain and that was treated. I watched sicker animals be carried into the back so I knew there would be a wait. In the end, I talked again to the vet, got updated on what was done, and discharge instructions with take home meds. What else could I want. In this age of instant everything, it is helpful to be patient.

Yelp
Dove Lewis and especially Dr. Abe Hilfman were fantastic. First they are the only 24/7 emergency vet in the Portland metro area (and maybe within 150 miles +) that always accept rabbits. They took my rabbit's case very seriously when she stopped eating and drinking completing and went into GI stasis. It was hard to leave her overnight at the ICU but I knew she was in good hands with knowledgeable exotic and rabbit saavy vets. Dr. Hilfman went over her case and patiently answered all our questions, while providing his recommendations for car. They treated her and she's now back to her normal sassy, food motivated self. I'm also so grateful that they have an exotics specialist- Dr.Flaminio on staff. They literally saved my rabbit's life! If your rabbit or small animal is having an emergency, know you'll be treated with the respect and urgency that you and your best friend deserve.

Yelp
Poor service at best. One half the Vets are terrible. They don't even read the notes about your loved one that you just gave at checkin! Then they suggest actions that have nothing to do with your situation! And...they have a grief offer if your loved-one passes, which is a joke. They schedule you to a zoom and do not even provide a link that they said they would send. And if you try to call in, forget it. I waited 45 minutes to get an answer of, "we can't reach anyone" and we will call you back. Do you think I got a call back even 24 hrs later to apologize? If you have any other options, take that first.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible they had us wait. Eight hours just to check vitals and tell us that they couldn't treat him because of other prioritize patients (people who had more money) and our cat wasn't eating or drinking and was having trouble breathing and after waiting 8 hours they told us that he wouldn't be treated for another few hours!! At that point it had been a total of 8 hours And I witnessed them draw blood from a dog and forget to bandage his paw and the dog left a trail of BLOOD THRU THE LOBBY!!!

Yelp
Really great experience! These people are awesome Thank you for taking such good care of our bun Sterling,
