It looks and feels exactly like a Sprout in California, except it only serves vegetarian prepped food here. Other than meat products, this place has everything else. Oh, I couldn’t find eggs either, so not sure if they sell eggs here. The prepped food was good, unfortunately I’m not a vegan, but I’m sure vegetarians and vegans would love this place. Even the burgers from the deli were vegan burgers. There were seats if you’d prefer yo eat your food here.

Got the viral mango sticky rice smoothie, don’t do it! Waisted my money, way off from the flavor, the mango itself is not ripe has a bitter taste. I can’t taste the coconut flavor as well.

$16 for a tiny little sandwich. No side or drink. I don't care if it's organic, these portions are unacceptable at these prices.

Down to Earth is a gem in Oahu. With several locations dotted around the island, you’re never crazy far from the bounty of these amazing vegan-friendly grocery stores / buffets / made to order kitchens. I was also impressed with the massive selection of non alcoholic beers they had available: NA Guinness & Corona aren’t easy to come by! We had the vegan chicken sandwich & the impossible burger last night which both rated high: 8.5-9 out of 10 on the taste scale & such a good deal for the money you spend there!

Google
I'm so happy to have found a vegan hot food line!! Everything was delightful. In my top 3 restaurants on Oahu! Ate in the parking lot. Tried my friends chicken sandwich and OMG, headed back in to get a chicken sandwich for later. 🤍

Oh my goodness...if you are a vegetarian, like me, or a vegan...or if you love supporting local...or if organic is your preference...this is a place worth driving to no matter where you are on the island. They have an amazing selection of everything from produce, to groceries, to prepared foods. They also have a huge variety of supplements and natural beauty products. It is even a must stop for tourist gifts because they carry many Hawaiian product lines (chocolates, coffees, honey, hand creams, you name it). I found the cost to be comparable to the other independent markets I’ve frequented on the island. During COVID I believe their dine in options are somewhat limited but they have a large area to enjoy your coffee or meal and hang out, which I also look forward to enjoying in the future!

It’s like a little EREHWON IN Hawaii super good market has a lot of stuff all the health things loved it better than Whole Foods. Has all the stuff you need as far as holistic foods

I absolutely love this chain of grocery stores & as a whole it is a good store. Unfortunately, it is (in my opinion) turning into one of their worse locales. It still is a good store and worth a shop if looking for organic or vegan options. Here are a couple of my issue: 1. their selection (fruit, bulk or otherwise) is not as good as others and seems to be getting worse, 2. It is always pretty warm but can be excessively so. There is a vent that blows hot air right down on food goods (only seen that a couple times), 3. I, unfortunately, have discovered insects amongst their bulk shopping bins. Both dead and alive. I know it must be difficult to manage that, especially in a tropical locale but it has turned me away from those products. They appear to be renovating so hope it improves. Give it a try and judge for yourself!

Yelp
Wonderful co-op providing local and organic foods to the community. Personally I prefer this over the chain store. The people are great, the food is yummy, and every once in awhile they run great specials to b look out for!

Yelp
This review focuses mainly on their deli / smoothie bar. This is a true 3.5 stars and I would usually round up but simply because I have had better experiences at their Kapolei location- I know that they can do better. I have now had a couple so-so experiences here and for the price, we're really expecting greatness. So, my friend was RAVING about her acai bowl order and instead of apple juice or soy milk she adds coconut cream and when blended in it tastes like ice cream. Obviously, I'm automatically sold. So, me and my friend come in together and she orders it the same exactly way that she said she has ordered many of times at another location.... except this time the coconut cream doesn't get blended in and is instead dropped on top. I even remember seeing them make the bowl and noticed they didn't put the coconut cream in the blender - so without soy or apple juice to add moisture it was a bit icy. Most recently I heard everyone talking about their new smoothies (once again with the coconut cream, we love a trend). I had to circle the parking lot a few times but my friend was lucky and found a spot easy, so she went in and ordered the two smoothies for us. One blissful berry, and one recovery (the blue one). Another one of our friends with us ordered on the app and got her smoothie (F-bomb) promptly. We ended up waiting a bit and having to ask about our order since we didn't see any smoothies being made behind the counter. Shortly after our two other smoothies were ready. Except, one of the smoothies was more like a juice while the other was creamy and cold like a smoothie should be. I felt sooo bad, since my friend had bought my drink and my smoothie was clearly so much better than hers. Of course, being the good friend that I am, we ended up splitting the good smoothie. This location is really convenient for me, nearby where I take pilates. I will definitely be back and will update my review with hopefully more consistent orders from the deli. I do love the huge dining space here -- other locations don't have as nice of seating for the hot bar and deli. Pro tip for next time: I will be ordering online ahead of time!

Yelp
I love this place. So many vegan, vegetarian and healthy food options. It's like a little Whole Foods but better (since Amazon took over) in my opinion. The made-to-order deli offers the absolute most delicious avocado wrap! The hot and cold bar offers so many options....don't go to this location hungry because you will get more food than you need :-) There are various locations throughout the island but this is definitely my favorite location. They have indoor and outdoor seating options. The service was good and prices are reasonable. I will definitely make a drive to Kailua when on the island!

Yelp
Everything for vegetarian and organic. Very large store with sections for grocery shopping, soap and utility items, bakery and a nice long buffet of hot and cold vegetarian choices. Clean with nice wide aisles. Staff friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This review is for their hot food options and overall ambience. Overall, a very clean store that is easy to navigate and looks beautiful. The hot food, let me just say, YES. I ordered their down to earth burger and it legit was the best veggie burger I've ever had, no contest. Perfectly made. Just the right texture and flavors are out of this world. I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, just like to eat more veg when I can so I'm not an expert but this was AMAZING.
google avatar

Yelp
So many vegan & Gluten free options! Especially on the hot bar! A paradise for those with dietary restrictions! All staff were very friendly and nice.

Yelp
" please let team members knows you are pick up " doesn't work. I am standing in front of the members and they just ignore me.

Yelp
I love Down to Earth Organic & Natural atmosphere and all the great products the store has to offer. I mostly enjoy all the staff and have made a lot of friends over the years. There is a nice selection of produce and some nice local products, such as bags for toting groceries home and prepared food products. If you're looking for a natural and organic foods or skin care products, this should be one of your top options.

Yelp
I used to love coming to this place for food, but they've been skimping and it shows. Completely untouched: $7.98 for "two orders" of fries and it's barely that, and sadly this isn't the first time. No other Down to Earth I've been to has given me this issue, elsewhere they'll actually give your moneys worth. Seems to be just the Kailua location. I just think if we're paying this much money for fries, there should at least be a reasonable amount in there. This was just a rip off and I should've spent my money elsewhere.

Yelp
First time to this location. Located in the Lau Hala Shops. For those my age, you can find them where Liberty House was located. I entered the store from the parking lot. They have an entrance fronting Kailua Road. At the Kailua Rd. entrance side of the store, they have a Deli. It wasn't open while I was there. A large seating area that is available for dine in. Clean and spacious. Good selection of your healthy goods. Although they did not have the particular item I was looking for, I picked up a flask and a slice of Ube brand. The service was friendly. Enjoy.

Yelp
I was really disappointed with the high price for one (1) plate of food. The portions were not excessive. However, $29.00 for a plate is insane! Yes. the food is healthy and delicious. Just to compare... Went next door to Maui Taco and paid for two plates of food for the same price! See photo for comparison. Oh well. I can take it or leave it...

Yelp
The man working in the supplements desk was awesome. He gave us great information. He's extremely knowledgeable. Thanks! Sorry I didn't catch his name. We asked him about Gilbert's syndrome. Gilbert (zheel-BAYR) syndrome is a common, harmless liver condition in which the liver doesn't properly process bilirubin. Also threw in some info on arthritis. Thanks again.

Yelp
The prices here match the freshness & quality of the food, for sure. Always come here for the lasagne & the salads, especially the orzo. My son loves their eggplant parmesan. You definitely receive the quality & freshness that you pay for here. The hot foods selection is delectable !

Yelp
DTE in Kailua is a great vegetarian market with lots of local and organic options. Their hot bar has many excellent options for a quick, healthy meal. The store is clean and well organized. Their employees are helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. Our checkout process was easy and smooth, and our cashier Yolanda was the kindest person ever. We will definitely be back to shop and say hi to sweet Yolanda!!

Yelp
JAX was very helpful and such a pleasant young lady. Really made shopping easy! I have shopped at this location many times although Jax gave me the best customer service I have experienced. She went out of her way to help me find a specific item.

Yelp
More of a takeout place and grocery store although it has indoor and outdoor seating with tables, no table service is available. Great place for vegan foods with both a sandwich bar, cold and hot food bar along with assorted baked goods. The business has electric vehicle charging stalls outside in the mall parking lot area at the back so you can charge while shopping and or grabbing takeout. As with most businesses these days it seems under staffed for the size with the quick check out stations near the indoor seating area closed on this day so patients is required when paying for you purchase's.

Yelp
Store seems clean and staff is friendly. Wish the food bar had a better variety (always the same things). Some of the pricing is extremely high.

Yelp
Just bought fries from the deli and when I tell you this is what I opened the box to. I am not lying. The box was 1/4 full. I always go to the down to Earth in Kakaako and never experience this! What an absolute joke. Charging the money they do for a one size fries that leave 3/4 of the box empty. You'd think the fries were coming out of her paycheck. Don't waste your money.

Yelp
Down to Earth in Kailua is fantastic! They offer a wide variety of organic and locally sourced products, making it a great spot for health-conscious shoppers. The staff is friendly, and the store has a welcoming vibe. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! Love this place Yolanda the cashier is basically the sweetest person ever!!!

Sara S.

Yelp
Down to Earth in Kailua is generally a nice store with good food, but my experience there today was upsetting. When I went to the front of the store to pay for my food, the cashier was wearing gloves, handling money with the gloves on. She then dropped the money on the floor, picked it up with her gloved hand, and then handed me my container of food and utensils. This is extremely unhygienic. Why not just have no gloves on and use hand sanitizer? I guess the health of the customers does not matter!

Jeff K.

Yelp
The prices are absolutely outrageous. I shop at whole foods as well as many other stores looking for the best organics. The prices are out of control and sometimes close to twice as much as the competition.

Yelp
I am not the demographic for this place but it has a lot to offer. Here's a few things to know: 4 free EV chargers, free Wi-Fi, ample dine on premises seating, extremely fresh produce, great deals in some canned items like Muir Glen tomatoes and friendly staff. The RTE food has lots of options but most are "alternatives" at least for me. Today, however, I had the DTE burger which is everything but beef. That said it was very tasty and left my tummy full and conscious clean.

Yelp
American poet Theodore Roethke once wrote: "...I measure time how a body sways..." Once upon a time 10 years ago, I used to "sway" around at approx 250 lbs.. The two things I credit for the subsequent loss of 75+ pounds in 4 months was 1) hiking Kokohead trail weekly and 2) changing my diet forever. Down to Earth Kailua store played a huge role in that. As such I've always had a fondness for the Down to Earth Kailua location, although to be honest, I much preferred the store's previous location next to the marsh/bird sanctuary. Not only was the scenery far more pleasant but the old staff and surroundings gave the place a very home-town, intimate feeling that is lacking in the current "mainland-esque" expanded edifice. But "... the more things change, the more they remain the same", as writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr one penned.. ("plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose"), and all things in perspective, this store is still my go to place for the herbal teas, supplements, and soy-free, sugar-free, chemical-free health products that you cannot find anywhere else and that I'm required to use as part of my prescriptive dietary preventative health program. I've noticed the quality of the organic produce has dipped slightly over the past 10 year but there are still weekly bargains to be found. While many of the pre-packaged vegetarian/vegan products contain an excessive amount of sugar and soy for my needs, I'm fully able to find my 8-10 recurring items I need on a monthly basis. Since these products are not available elsewhere, I'm very grateful that we've been blessed with this shopping establishment. No matter what your dietary needs, I think you can find it here. Parking is plentiful and other surrounding shops are only a short walk away. Mahalo Down to Earth and Mahalo for reading my review.

Yelp
Picking up an Instagram contest prize in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii... Winning giveaways on Instagram is thrilling for me. I have driven to Northern California from LA to collect a free ice cream. LOL! Today, I drove from Kaneohe to Kailua to get my free Super Food Bar! I had visited the former Kailua location of Down To Earth once. This new location (it used to be a Macy's) is better because it's bigger, seems cleaner and brighter, and feels more modern and organized. There's lots of free parking and great air conditioning! Green and Fit Mama (Jodi on Instagram) messaged me and said that I would be able to pick up my Instagram prize on Monday. She had personally stocked the store the day before. I asked the store manager where I could find the Raw Super Food Bar. He asked a few more staff members - no one knew where or what it was. Since I was there, I didn't want to leave empty handed. I found pizza in the warmer of the deli section at Half Off! Whoa! That's $2.25 a slice! Yay! I went to my car to set the pizza down and messaged Jodi that the Raw Superfood Bar couldn't be found. She called Customer Service, sent me a photo, and gave the exact location of the product. I went back into the store and looked for the manager. He had to tend to other things, so the nice lady from Customer Service helped me. She apologized for the miscommunication. The Pineapple Li Hing flavor must have sold out quickly. I chose the Chocolate Peppermint and went on my way. Now that I know where the new location of the Kailua Down To Earth is, I won't hesitate to return again! I might return soon for the cute tote bags or handmade soaps - they'd make great gifts! I also checked out the fresh produce, Health and Wellness items, greeting cards, snacks, and beverages... I'll be back!

Yelp
I've had reason to go to the Kailua Down to Earth location twice in the past month. It's such a nice, brightly lit space with nice, wide aisles. For those of you who may have been at a different location, you'll know that's not the case there. I like that everything is so well laid out that things are easy to find. The service deli has nice low walls and counters--I'm vertically challenged, and sometimes feel like I have to stand on tiptoe to see over some counters and their other locations. One of the things I enjoyed most about health food stores is shopping in the bulk foods section. It just makes more sense to me to pick up 4 oz. of something, rather than a prepackaged big box when that's all I need. Unfortunately, most places don't have the bulk bins anymore, but Kailua DTE still does. Maybe it's because they use the self-dispensing bins where you pull down a lever and your dry goods fall down a chute into your waiting container or bag. On the trip to pick up bulk items, I arrived just after 7 am, and all of the people working were wide awake and super friendly. It was a nice way to start my day. My most recent trip to the store was during my lunch break with a friend who was looking for essential oils. DTE has an extensive selection of oils, and their different brands have different price points, so it's nice to compare and get what you can afford. The store was not crowded and had a really relaxing vibe. While DTE is just a few shops down from my usual go-to healthy foods place, I think I'll be going the extra distance more often to patronize this place that's so much more relaxing.

Yelp
Oly place I could find chocolate covered coffee beans . Too bad its $12.29lb. I would get it more often.

Yelp
This is a brand new Down to Earth in Kailua. It is absolutely beautiful inside and equipped with everything that the store chain provides. The hot buffet, bakery and produce looked delicious. For the grand opening of the store, they gave you a Down to Earth bag. As far as prices, I did not see much on sale, except for cereal. I did notice that the prices were higher than Whole Foods on their produce. They have plenty of seating both inside and outside, along with free WiFi. They also had plenty of staff.

Captain K.

Yelp
Lots of good selection of health foods and supplements, bulk foods and a great salad and hot bar as well as an excellent deli
google avatar

Raeann Y.

Yelp
The customer service here is so hit or miss. There are some workers here that are so nice and helpful but the others, hmmm not so much. Their new store is so beautiful but is almost always empty. If they tried to be a little more in being more personable in their approach, I would bet they would have more people shopping here. Hard to support local when they only seem to care about their "regulars". If I need to go to Down to Earth for a specialty item, I will try another location. Bummer...

Shanelle S.

Yelp
Great vegan and non-dairy options that taste amazing! Staff is helpful and readily available for questions. A good choice for an after workout meal or checking off your grocery list.

Malia F.

Yelp
SO RUDE. the people making the food were so kind but the cashiers and stockers were very rude. i asked one of the stockers where something was and she directed me horribly and when i couldn't find it she quickly came up to me and AGGRESSIVELY pointed and said "RIGHT HERE" with the rudest tone. when i was checking out the cashier tossed my food that i just bought from her and hit over my other items. no sorry. no apology. no acknowledgement. she gave me the meanest look as well. they need to learn some customer service skills AND LOWER THEIR GODDAMN PRICES...

Yelp
I enjoy going to this local organic health food store. We don't have anything like this on the mainland. Back when I was living at home in Hawai'i, I would always come here for their delicious, antioxidant, and superfood packed smoothies and their freshly baked desserts. I love eating their wheat-free blueberry muffin the most. Their food labels are easy to read for those that are vegan or have gluten insensitivity.

Yelp
I have not written a Yelp review in quite sometime, but after reading some of the reviews here, I felt compelled. I love this place. I've yet to visit any of the other DtE locations on island, but I can only hope they're as great as this one. It's very well lit, the layout makes sense, and they have a vast selection of vegetarian, vegan, and "natural"/organic/health foods. They also have a decent selection of health supplements and beauty/bath products. Everything I've gotten from the hot bar has been delicious and it's nice to have the grab and go options, especially if you need to grab something quick for lunch. The biggest plus for me, which is what drove me to make this review, is the customer service/the employees. Every time I've gone to DtE I've met the nicest people, especially the cashiers. I go maybe four or five times a month, sometimes for a grocery trip and sometimes just to grab something to eat, and I've never had an issue with any of the employees. Sometimes I wonder if the people who have a bad customer service experience here are just the type of people who are bound to have a bad customer service experience everywhere they go (you know what I mean?).

Bianca M.

Yelp
I loved this store but after this situation, idk if I will be back. My parents shop for food and water in the DTE Kailua. My dad always gets water from this location because it's close to our home. We ALWAYS pay for our produce but he was falsely accused of stealing water. I feel very disappointed the way things were handled, and I'm glad my mom came with me because she held her ground. My dad is a very sweet man he would never, ever do this kind of thing. I feel so disappointed in DTE:( I have so many things to rant about but I rather not because I know some people there and not everyone is bad.

Yelp
This is a review for the beyond burger which is available here. Really liked how fresh the tomatoes, lettuce, and bread were. Very good burger. I'm not a vegetarian.

Yelp
Had to make a stop to Down to Earth to indulge in the simplest yet most satisfying treat : a VEGAN fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. It was as good as it looks.

Yelp
The system where if you want a coffee you: 1) order it 2) walk all the way to the front and pay for it. 3) walk back to the coffee/deli area and the girl with the glazed over eyes finally shuffles over to the coffee machine. You wait patiently. You tell yourself "this is Kailua. It's slower here than Town" so you stay patient. Then you get outside to the nice veranda area to drink it... and she makes your drink wrong. Sure, it could be made again but do I really want to wait for that? 11/08/2021 Update: I just looked at the receipt. I ordered 4 shots dry cappuccino. The coffee cost me $9.50! OUCH! ...I will not be back.
google avatar

Krystal B.

Yelp
DTE is my favorite place to shop on the entire island of Oahu! I spent a whole month staying in Kailua and had to stop myself from visiting DTE every single day. It's really that AMAZING. I highly recommend their Signature Burger and Mushroom Mood Boost Smoothie at the deli as well as the spicy tofu poke, mock chicken salad, and vegan enchiladas from the hot bar. There are a ton of local food options throughout the store and things you simply can't find anywhere else. Also, the people who work at DTE are kind and wonderful! Thank you so much for everything. I'll be back on every trip I take.

Yelp
Ever since the person who helped me left Down to Earth, customer service went down the drain. They have a new guy named Tsai or Tai. He needs to go to school for proper customer service, and phone etiquette. A cashier told me they will never fire that guy because he is one of them. I don't understand what she meant.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Unbelieve the WORSE customer service today 07/26/2023. The cashier at the front this afternoon was RUDE to a customer and attending to her, he told other employees to service her here on after FOR NO REASON! This should have never happened to any anyone just purchasing anything form your establishment in the front of other customer! This make the whole store and there name look really BAD! Something to work on!
google avatar

Erika H.

Yelp
The vegan heaven grocery with American Latinx Asian and Hawaiian foods! Produce: papaya, avocado, mangoes and more! Hot food bar: amazing selections but not everything an A+ meal. Like the Filipino Pancit was flavorless but the right ingredients in the dish! The range of vegan prepared meals is HUGE includes spam musubi, vegan cookies and breads, and more! The vegan spam musubi is 80% rice and 15% vegan spam and 5% seaweed so you've been warned BUT I love this place to death and always will for their inclusiveness and love for vegans
google avatar

Kelly J.

Yelp
My favorite grocery store in Kailua. Their hot bar has a really good variety - definitely try to green curry if it's available! Their tofu poke is a dream, as are all of the desserts here. If you're vegan, you must go!

Yelp
I'm very grateful for this store. They carry some items I use in my Persian cooking that I haven't found elsewhere on island. The staff are always so pleasant and friendly . Everything is fresh. Just great overall!

Yelp
Hot bar is outstanding, with copious vegan, paleo & organic options. Good produce selection, parking is fine, and great selection of bulk foods and healthy brands. Prices are standard to a health food. This place is local; I appreciate that vibe. The backdrop to this place is a gorgeous hillside and river inlet with waterfowl and chickens & roosters strutting about ...! :D

Yelp
Friend had to pick up something's for dinner. Ended up having a late lunch with friends in their open seating area. Store had good inventory and the made to order food area had great service - had a delicious falafel wrap that hit the spot. Next time I've got more time I'll check out the shopping aisles. Love the healthy casual vibe of the store.

Yelp
Well, this is a definite maybe! Kudos for the manager and the salad master!the maybe part is due to the ultra rude check out clerk! Immediately copped a very bad attitude because I called out that I was next in line and was told there were two lines, however, when I walked up to the checkout there was only one line open, I repeat, only one line open, when she opened the second line. Of course, I am going to speak up, when it is obvious that I am next I may try again and avoid Ms. ultra Rudeoh almost forgot: Her next smooth move, was telling me not to enter my debit card so fastHilarious, cuz, the MACHINE accepted the charge while she was asking me "What are you doing?"

Kala L.

Yelp
Delicious hot food bar and salad bar. Lines that move way faster than Whole Foods lines. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
I will give it 4 stars because it surprised me and I was so happy there is an alternative to Whole Foods, although I wish it were in Kaneohe instead of Kailua. The presentation is very posh and the buffet was very tasty. The seating inside is nice, but I prefer outdoor open air seating but their outdoor seating seems to be a posh bus stop instead. The main benefit of the buffet is that it is 100% vegetarian, I'm not sure if it is 100% vegan which is what 2 friends told me, but since I am not vegan, I cant vouch for it or not. I say benefit because when I have a vegetarian or vegan friend, I can recommend this place to meet for a lunch and know I will enjoy my meal as well. The set up looks alot like Whole foods, even the packaging so some people may shop at either by mistake. Compared to the Kapolei, Pearl City/Aiea and University end locations, it feels like their answer to Foodland Farms upscaling its supermarket to compete against the Whole Foods around the island. The price for the buffet is kind of high...I had the smallest box and a kombucha drink for $17. Little pricey for lunch at a serve yourself buffet. I'll definitely be back, though, because the food quality was great.
