Hot bar/salad bar of dreams. No issue finding healthy and clean food. Wonderfully clean and thoughtfully laid out store. 10/10 will be returning.

Google
Such a great store. Excellent for vegan, vegetarian, and health conscious shoppers! And a big, more local competitor to Whole Foods. I just wish they had locations outside of Hawaii in other states.

Google
I was blown away by the selection in this store. It was pricey but what it HNL is not? It was like a foodies' dream to see the selection of so many things I have not seen elsewhere. It leaves Whole Foods in the dust. We did not eat at their hot food spot but the food looked tasty and well tended. Many people were leaving with drinks from their food bar. What I'd been looking for was bulk spices so I could refresh mine and here they were. The staff was kind and there is a presence of aloha throughout the place. There is outside seating for people with meals. It was frankly hard to take in all they offered in one visit. There is a large area for health conscious beauty products and supplements. This place is an A+

Google
I was in vegan heaven!! This is the best place for prepared or self-serve vegan and vegetarian food as well as a grill. I tried a bit of everything at the hot bar… love the curry and stuffed shells. The tofu musabi is great too! There is seating upstairs with utensils, etc. Friendly staff. Parking garage and restroom. Clean. If you are vegan or vegetarian, you have to check this place out!

Google
Cafe, deli, hot and salad bar, vitamins, body care, produce, food. It has it all. Just great!

Google
Have loved Down To Earth for many years. Great grocery and produce selection. Hot bar is always incredibly yummy and has many different options. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend, shop local!

Google
I've only gotten food here and not groceries but they have a good variety of vegan or healthy foods, including some desserts like pies and cookies that are really good. Their burgers are also good, just expensive. $23 for a burger and fries...ouch.

Google
I would come to Down to Earth if I need spices that I can buy in smaller quantities, since I do not like to buy an entire jar of spices when the recipe only asks for a pinch of the spice and would sit in my pantry unused afterwards. I spent only $2+ for purchasing 4 types of spices in small quantities. It also makes me feel good to purchase items that are healthy for my body and the environment, at the cost of slightly higher price tag. I wish I can bring my own containers or bags for the spices and food items - I understand that it's for hygienic reasons but makes me feel bad for using plastic when the purpose of bulk shopping is to reduce plastic consumption. I know the business is trying their best so I wish them luck.

Yelp
I have been coming here nearly every day each time I'm back to my home away from home. The food from the deli is amazing and good value. I look forward to my lunch here every day and I also love buying good quality groceries from a wide choice. Oahu would not be the same without you! Thank you

Noriko W.

Yelp
Prices are up and service has gone down. This is the second time I've had a cashier (Jolene) not respond to my "hello" and refuse to help me bag my items. I don't mind bagging my own groceries, but when there's no line and the cashier turns their back on you to indicate they're "done" with you after you enter payment, it doesn't feel great. As a long time local resident, I'd rather support local businesses but I think this convinces me that my dollars and greetings are welcome elsewhere.

Yelp
I needed to start making more healthier choices. Since I had not eaten yet, I thought a nice cleansing juice would be great. I've been here before, and it's smaller than the Kakaako location, but they do have a juice bar. Not that I really need it, I ordered the Beauty Beets....LOL! You can order three sizes, 12, 16, and 24 ounces. I ordered the 24. The beet juice was soooooo good! Carrot, lemon, and ginger...all the flavors worked really well! This is a great spot for your health needs. They also have grab and go foods!

Lloyd C.

Yelp
Down to Earth Organics is a nice market with a lot of great stuff. They have a hot food bar in addition to a Juice & Deli department that makes sandwich, burgers, acai bowls, etc. The customer service is really nice!

Kelly G.

Yelp
We have be one regulars at every Down To Earth location on the island ... this is our favorite store to get freshly pressed juices, organic & vegan food ! Each DTE has their own specialties and regular items so we switch it up for variety. Each location has nice staff and each presents a clean and well maintained fresh salad and hot food bar. With the cancer diagnosis I went completely vegan and DTE helps make my life easier and tastier ! I live that it's local and that they really have such a great selection of all things vegan and organic ! Thank you Down To Earth !

Lisa K.

Yelp
Helpful, friendly service from all of the employees! As a vegan I am so glad we knew about this spot and were able to find a lot of fresh fruit, including a new fruit for us to try...jabuticaba! The deli was great & easy to navigate. You order your vegan sandwich, burrito, etc through the computer, pay for it at the front, then bring the receipt back to the deli. Lots of bin food to choose from as well! Shelves are stocked with drinks, snacks, and basics that would come in handy while on vacation.

Alicia G.

Yelp
So sad to say because I've been a loyal customer for over a decade and it's sad how much the prices have gone out of control. At $15 per pound, at that point, it's cheaper to go to a restaurant. The individual summer rolls used to be massive and under $4. They got smaller and smaller and upped the prices a few times and I believe now it's around $7. Also $7 for a Musibi. I looked at the dessert section and they were all around $10 per slice. $15 for a burger. I really only buy things from there now if they are on sale so I rarely come here anymore and even less now with the second major price increase I've seen in the last couple of years. Sad to get priced out of what used to be my favorite store.

Mona L.

Yelp
Always our go to place when we come home to visit. Organic, fresh, delicious and the staff are always friendly and willing to help. Every space is well used to carry whatever you may need for a healthy meal and wellness journey. Prices may be steep but you get what you pay for. I got the Down to Earth burger and it never fails to please my taste buds, crunchy veggies, fresh and even the alfalfa sprouts were singing joy joy in my mouth. Husband got his stuff and was pleased with the selections from the buffet bar. It was about $14.99/pound but everything looked well done and inviting to eat. One of our fav spots to return to and it never fails to deliver! Others have commented about location, parking etc. Just be sure to check out your approach to the upstairs parking garage. Driving on S. King St. is one way. A hui hou!

Yelp
It's been awhile since I ordered from the deli section of Down to Earth on South King Street. Ordered a DTE Black Bean Burger with Jack cheese on a whole wheat bun on Yelp via grubhub for dinner. I mistakenly failed to reschedule my pick up time for later, as opposed to ASAP. I phoned their call center and the agent was helpful and texted me a confirmation of the change in pick up time. Got to DTE before my 845p rescheduled pick up time - they close at 900p. Kitchen was closed and my burger was ready on the side of the deli register. It was cold but to be expected...I can always reheat at home. Burger was excellent. It was DTE's own black bean patty with cheese, sprouts, lettuce, etc, quite tasty. Deli bar was still open so I mixed an assortment of kale, spinach, etc, for a mixed salad. Also, quite good. One of my food weaknesses... I have many...are potato chips. So, I purchased a couple of bags of Boulder Avocado Oil, Salt, and Cracked Black Pepper Potato Chips...very good. Several weeks ago, got some Vegan Cheesecake...forgot the flavor but they have many, and I've tried a few at their Kapolei location, and all were excellent. Occasionally, bought some produce from this DTE and if I can buy local, I will try even if it is pricier than other chain grocery stores. Periodcally, pick up ready-to-eat meals, especially Tasty Bites Indian cuisine. I really like them and are tasty while offering a good variety of entrees. Store is clean, organized, and well-stocked. Parking is available upstairs...enter from South King Street in between the building with DTE and Moiliili Community Center. Th elevator in the garage takes you into the building's lobby where once outside on the S. King sidewalk you can enter the store.

Yelp
What a nice little health grocery store I stumbled upon on my walk to Giovanni's Shrimps! Stopped in to get a cold pressed juice (Immunity) It tasted good, no sugar added though I wish there was more ginger. Love the selection of healthy and local goodies, the juice bar and prepared food area, local produce, souvenirs, all at decent prices. I picked up an ube potato salad there, never tried a purple potato salad before and it was good! Service was friendly. A great spot to stock up on local chocolates, fruits and get a yummy smoothie/juice. Mahalo!

Yelp
This is the first Down to Earth that opened in Hawaii in 1977 on S. King . Since then they've opened other locations in Kakaako, Kailua, Kapolei and Pearlridge. Everything that they sell is organic, natural and vegetarian. You walk in and the produce section is to the right, vitamins are to the left and the ready to eat is in the back. The hot entree section is $14.99 a pound. You grab a box and fill it with what you want to eat. They have a lot of different salad options and veggie dishes. I like meat, so it wasn't for me. It looked really good though. They even sell sandwiches, wraps and smoothies that are made to order. My friend ordered the creamy kale smoothie and avocado wrap.

Kevin S. O.

Yelp
I always come by to see what's new in the store; often times, I get a bird or carob bar. The only other items that I did get were: Kerry's Irish butter, black licorice or rolled oatmeals (as an alternative to Saturday morning cartoon) cereals. The customer service is very friendly and the service of the checkout line is fast. You must ask the cashier for the restroom key, when nature calls.

Yelp
Love love and enjoy life... Here at Down to Earth don't categorize them in a placement without giving them a visit. It's really no different than you basic groceries they're just much advanced in pleasing not just our bellies but the planet. Many item I can surely find at the market but they have bulk bins filled with everything you can imagine...I just came from Costco but here it's currently on sale at $0.99 a pound...sigh! The quality may slightly vary but just knowing I could've saved $$$$ just having that option to choose a slight amount to purchase is less waste and who doesn't want that! The do also have a ton of grab and go items, salad, hot food bar, soup bar and a juice bar & deli corner as this location is older and already is maxed in retail space available but they did make it work beautifully and love to shop at this convenient location with a bunch of friendly staff ready to help you with questions and finding items. Thank you!

Yelp
I just wanted to follow up and revise the review I posted a year ago. Down to Earth seems to have taken to heart the feedback received from their customers and have put forth effort into making their customer service better. Thank you for treating your customers with respect and showing that you value their business.

John C.

Yelp
An Oasis of healthy, varied, and reasonably priced grocery and prepared food options in a desert of overpriced tourist trap offerings, Down to Earth is akin to a very small Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, or even Mother's (in Huntington Beach, California), with a focus on vegetarian. The hot bar/salad bar, in addition to the juice/smoothie bar and custom sandwich offerings, plus a variety of individual cakes, pies, donuts, muffins, breakfast foods, etc., make for a cornucopia of choices to delight the appetite. A few tables and chairs are available outside to accommodate onsite dining.

Marisabel A.

Yelp
I am so upset. I came in here pretty early Wednesday morning and thought about all the wonderful things I would get . When deciding if I wanted a smoothie I stopped to look at the options and to my surprise the woman working there was literally taking the fruit straight from the containers and dumping them in the dishes to then serve the customer. I am beyond shocked because I'm pregnant and obviously this is unsafe to not wash produce. Needless to say we spend more money for the quality that we receive and this is not it !

Tiki D.

Yelp
Delicious foods, enough variety to make a trip when I want specialty items. Nice staff.

Wayne H.

Yelp
The review is in regards to their food bar. Yes, it's on the pricier side but I think it's worth the price. Everything in the food bar is organic. There's a wide selection of healthy items such as tofu, eggplant, curries, salads, etc. They also have a nice dining area upstairs to eat and relax. In all, I enjoy dining here for lunch or dinner.

Ray L.

Yelp
Yes there is an alternative to Whole Foods in Hawaii! Down to Earth is one of the original natural food stores in Hawaii before the bigger retailers showed up. What the bigger stores may not have that Down to Earth can provide keeps me coming back. They have some good specialty grocery items that is either not found or more expensive at other stores. The deli food bar at this Down to Earth location is alway stocked with some delicious vegetarian options, baked goods and fresh made to order healthy drinks. Staff are always friendly and helpful when you have questions or need help. Metered parking is available off King street or validated in the upper parking level of the building.

Lauren B.

Yelp
I love this store! Like Whole Foods but a local business (I'm assuming). They have a wide array of vegan and vegetarian items, and as a former vegan I appreciate the variety. The staff is also so helpful too. The hot food bar is where it's at for a healthy dinner, especially needed while on vacation. Love it.

Tiffany-Nicole C.

Yelp
This is one of our go-to grocery stops. I usually purchase bulk items such as flour or spices here since we are a small household. While I appreciate the healthy selection of other sold items, they are small kine expensive. We buy what we need from bulk items and it usually never amounts to more than $5. Their produce section is also great for when we can't find items at Farmer's Market. Store is clean and the employees are most often times friendly. I have come across a few that were seemingly grumpy for no reason. Parking is metered street parking or up in the parking garage where you'd have to utilize the elevator to get to DTE. Yelp 2023 Challenge: 08/30

Andre B.

Yelp
I recommend it because it's awesome. Been coming here for years. It can get a little pricey but it's worth it. This is the best DTE on the island. The original

Jane S.

Yelp
This Down to Earth have healthy snacks and affordable supplements. I enjoy eating earth burger and smoothies! Looking forward to go here all the time !

Hanzo

Yelp
I don't go there much, but I love their desserts, Shakes and smoothies, but Recently, the quality has been as good as it usually is for example Just recently, I was given expired/rotten product as well as from the smoothie I found 5 chunks of small metallic pieces in the drink and it was really up

Ashlee K.

Yelp
Love coming to this down to earth for the convenience. Love their date bar when available. It's the perfect dessert.

Takashi Y.

Yelp
I consider this store to be the best place to buy vegan food. For those on a vegan diet, this is a veritable paradise, with a wide variety of healthy foods on display. This shop has a great service that allows you to enjoy your favorite vegan meal by weighing hot food inside the shop. There are also vegan sandwiches, doughnuts, pastries, and other items that show the depth of veganism. The price is a bit steep, but if you think of it as an investment in yourself for your health, maybe that's a good thing!

Greg D.

Yelp
It seems to me that everyone that patrons and that works at Down to Earth Organic & Natural - 2525 S. King Street is really healthy and hella cool and friendly and sincere. They have parking structure to park your vehicle and it is shaded. There are like (4-5) four to five curbside (C&C) City and County metered parking stalls. Alot of people park at Longs parking lot directly across and traverse over; wether it is via crosswalk or hood style. No meat products sold at Down to Earth Organic & Natural - Honolulu: FYI. They take: cash, credit card, EBT..... not sure about Gold.

Stephen E.

Yelp
A bit pricey. But have some great local produce and vegan/ vegetarian hot food is yummy! Few hot dishes have some added seed oils, which I think is an easy swap for better quality oils, but still yummy

Karen A.

Yelp
Erewon in Oahu. The selection is on point. The ready made food looks incredible. I bought the garlicky kale salad. I was completely satisfied. What a jem.

Felix G.

Yelp
Food served there lucks thrown together in a microwave, and extremely bland. Other than that the overpriced juices are pretty good. Thank you for the passive aggressive reply Alison. I assume you enjoy the slop more than I did.

Warrene C.

Yelp
I love this location. Their food bar is fantastic, I can always find something for me. The store is nice and clean. My favorites are the smoothies, particularly their Kale Smoothie and the Heart Beet Shake. Most of the time I do a mobile order and by the time I reach the store my order is ready. The staff are very friendly. DTE provides me with a quick pick me up on my way to work.

Laishung C.

Yelp
This place is cheaper than Whole foods... friendly staff, full on vegan store. Food Bar everything you need there.

Lisa R.

Yelp
We ate here twice while in Honolulu! Their hot bar has tons of great vegan options, from lasagna to curry dishes and everything in between. They also have great desserts, like a s'mores cookies. We didn't get to try the smoothies or coffees but those looked pretty good too. The manager, Jessica, was very helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!

Nicole C.

Yelp
Nice market but almost every item in their hot bar contains sunflower or safflower oils, very unhealthy! Please consider coconut oil instead. Otherwise it's a nice place to buy produce.

Adam L.

Yelp
Neat store. They had maui white pineapples for sale! That alone is worth five stars.

Maru M.

Yelp
[COMMUNITY ALERT] A BUNCH of hair in a sandwich. This happened on 1/14/22. Down to Earth's avocado sandwich had been my daughter's favorite until this incident happened. She usually opens her sandwich and removes tomatoes. She was doing her routine as usual on this day, then I heard her screaming! I rushed to her and saw this BUNCH of hair in her sandwich. As you can see in the pic, it doesn't look like the hair got in the food by accident, but it looked like somebody in the kitchen grabbed scissors and cut his/her hair and put it in the food intentionally. My husband went back to the store to return it and got a refund. I could have let it go if it was just A hair in the sandwich as it could happen by accident. However, this was not the case. So, I decided to write to them and requested an explanation for how it happened. As of 2/12, I haven't heard any word from them yet. I wouldn't post it only if they responded to my message and reassured me by say something like this would never happen, but unfortunately they didn't say anything like that. We were their loyal customers for a long time, but this incident unfortunately ended our patronage to this business. We are very disappointed and sad. Please everyone be careful when you eat their sandwich. I feel disgusted by the idea that my daughter could have eaten the sandwich with lots of hair if she didn't open it.

Mari T.

Yelp
One of my favorite stores! Free covered parking above the store, 2nd floor, lots of discounts in the store (check out their email flyer) and they have sale shelves in the back for frozen/fridge things as well as dry goods. If you do their survey you get a free cookie every month! Great selections and I love that it's all vegetarian!

Feb W.

Yelp
I only went twice on this location. Pretty cozy & packed! Bought my fresh produce & honey comb in here! DTE is a haven place for health conscious and I'm pretty sure they'd be happy every time they're here. Hehehe. Plant-based organic food! Expect no meat. So if you are trying to find meat in here, sorry this ain't your place. (Smirk face). What I like about DTE is that the moment you entered the place, you'll smell that aromatic blend of the air. This place reminds me so much of my fave beauty place way back then called Human Heart Nature (oh, how I miss that store). They got mini salad bar which always amazes me in every way. They put too much love & effort in every location of DTE! I don't blame my friend Tanyce for grabbing her fresh produce in their store. Why not? What's not to love DTE products? Beauty products, to aromatic essential oils there is something you can find here. This is the aisle where I spend the most of my times at DTE. LoL. They got different nuts available to purchase! Too much goodness coming from the heart in this location. Funny how cozy this place is but packed with goodness! Superb! Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow yelpers! @hello.juanderbandit

Cory C.

Yelp
Great place with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarian diets. Their deli/ warm food area was great as well offering grab-and-go, or order there.

Monte P.

Yelp
Down To Earth King Street, they are all great, but this one is the best, not only the best Down to Earth, but the best grocery store on Oahu, vegetarian or not! I am not a vegetarian, but if I lived closer by, I could be; wow, the hot bar is that good! The vegetable section of the store by far offers the best vegetables I have ever seen, that includes farmers markets on the mainland! The store is clean. The interesting thing is the location is not in as wealthy an area as in a neighboring wealthy area with a renown grocery store (won't mention name), but the patrons at Down To Earth are noticeably more respectful, considerate, and hygienic than at the store located further up the H-1. Not sure why that would be, but I see it pretty much every time. Parking is great at Down To Earth located atop the building with an elevator. The cashiers are nice and friendly. No long lines! Amazing selection of potato type bagged snacks. Guava juice without high fructose corn syrup! There is a long established flute player near the entrance, share a couple of $'s with him, he deserves it, if you so chose!

San S.

Yelp
Needed psyllium husks. Looked through all of the bulk, couldn't find it. Finally, decided to ask for help. They said they no longer sell in bulk, through the dispenser. They only sell it in packages by other companies. Luckily it was on sale, bought the biggest bag. Also bought calm... they have it in packets and containers. The employee that helped me in the wellness Dept was very helpful and knowledgeable... also to mention the older gent that helped me in the dispensary area was helpful and friendly, too. Sorry, can't say the same for the cashier.

Indiana G.

Yelp
I love this place. Sure, it's a bit overpriced but the standout in my mind is the hot food section. So many creative, tasty options and heaven for someone who is vegetarian/vegan. Also a great spot to find grocery options for vegetarian and vegans. And has lots of bulk foods!

Darryl S.

Yelp
We did a 30-minute trek from Waikiki to this Makiki neighborhood to check out Down to Earth Organic & Natural food market and deli/food bar. It was, for us, a real find, with a buffet which had plenty of vegan options to choose from!! (Personally, I'm not much of a "buffet" person, strictly due to hygiene purposes; however, I made an exception this time. Everything was clean and very fresh looking.) (Burgers and such can be ordered using an interactive automated menu.) My buffet meal was very tasty, very flavorful. So, thumb's-up from me. I had a bite of the hub's veggie burger, and it was "squishy." As a food market, it was nicely appointed; expensive, but so's a regular supermarket in Hawaii. A very good rating from me! :D

Amy B.

Yelp
Very expensive and I don't like that they are a vegetarian establishment...!! A plate of hot food cost over $20 and it doesn't even contain the nutritional value I really wanted from real meats--!! I won't be back for their hot food unless I really have no other options.

Shayla K.

Yelp
The people that work here are SO hardworking they are literally amazing!!!! Special shout out to the people that make coffee you guys need a raise I go to down to earth almost every single day sometimes more than once. I work on the road so I always need to stop to re-up on healthy reserves to keep me in high performance mode!! I love this store so much I especially love the bath and body stuff and all the local business they are a vendor for that's amazing. Room for improvement: I've got to say though this store has had the bathrooms closed for a long time and --they really need to get it together with the bathrooms. It is for this reason I am giving this review a one star. I spend thousands of dollars in the store, not to mention I believe it is inhumane to deny restrooms to people. Seems so odd they would make that decision at the south king street location. Also: they they put their pizza in plastic containers and that was the most ultimate disservice they could have ever done to their pizza it's actually a tragedy. I used to buy the pizza but I really just want anymore lol good thing or bad for me idk (!!!) but just sad all-together for pizzas sake. Maybe they could get the buffet line people to do slices of pizza? Or maybe just bring back the buffet line would be awesome too. Mahaloz!!!!

Leila F.

Yelp
Great grocery store with healthier options for anyone. They also have smoothies, acai bowls, hot foods and salad bar....

Carolina F.

Yelp
This place has a mostly vegan deli! It's absolutely delicious with a vegan spinoff of very traditional foods, plus other foods that you can easily grab to-go. This is an excellent backup to vegan restaurants that have limited hours. We tried to find baked goods but they are not there by the afternoon (not sure how early you have to be to catch them). So obviously they have a high demand - how about offering more supply?

Lauren A.

Yelp
I wish I lived here. Seriously. Even though I'm about a miles away while being a UH student I love this place. For starters get your nut butters here with the fresh grinders in back of the store. DONT MISS IT! Especially the cashew butter I'm obsessed with. Secondly the hot bar is so fire. Like beyond good and I love their variety down to the condiments and olive oils and so forth. They want to provide every flavor enhancing item possible. I have had hot bar there 3 times this past week and one thing that sticks out to me is they keep it out till close I believe. I went late not expecting the food to be out but there it was, still hot and fresh too. Whole Foods could never they pack their hot bar up early evening. I would appreciate some chicken or meat though in the hot bar because it seems all the options are tofu but maybe that's their intent? Also I wish they had an in house bakery with baked goods and fresh bread especially sourdough. Most of their bread is frozen otherwise have a small selection. I have tried one of their cookies before it was GF and very good, so I think they do bake some things possibly in back or separate locations? Overall this has been a staple store for my college foodie needs in a perf location for me and always clean and calm and will continue to proudly spend my hard earned dollars here.

Thomas H.

Yelp
Cashiers are friendly, but prices are extremely high priced even with something's on sale it is still way too high. I found it is bettter to by buy from iHerb or from Amazon.
