Dr Rudi's Rooftop Brewing Co.

Went to Dr Rudi’s on January 1st for some midday drinks. Enjoyed the beer and the chicken burger (or whatever it was 😄) both were actually really good. The location is a big plus. Sitting outside by the waterfront, looking at the boats, water, apartments, and buildings makes for a really nice atmosphere. The ambience and setting are definitely the highlight. That said, the bar service wasn’t great. When I went up to order a couple of drinks (think margarita/martini), the staff didn’t come across as very friendly, which took away from the experience a bit. Overall, I’d give it 3.5 stars, great location and vibe, decent food and drinks, but the service could definitely be warmer.

Dr Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing quickly became one of my favorite places in Auckland, and I say that as a tourist who loves discovering spots with a great vibe, good food, and an even better location. It’s perfectly situated right in the marina, and the views alone make it worth visiting. Sitting there, watching the boats and the water while enjoying a drink, feels very relaxed and uniquely Auckland. The atmosphere is super chilled and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a few hours without even noticing the time pass. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch, sunset drinks, or dinner, it always feels laid-back and lively at the same time. As a visitor, I found it to be a great spot to soak in the local energy without feeling rushed or crowded. Their brewed beers are excellent. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into them, and there’s a good variety to choose from. Even if you’re not a big beer expert, it’s easy to find something you’ll enjoy. Having fresh, locally brewed beer while sitting right by the marina makes the experience even better. The food was another highlight. Everything we tried was amazing, well prepared, and full of flavor. The menu has a great balance of comfort food and more refined options, and the portions were very satisfying. It pairs perfectly with the beers and the relaxed setting. Overall, Dr Rudi’s is one of those places that becomes a favorite very quickly. Great location, chilled atmosphere, excellent beer, and delicious food make it a must visit when you’re in Auckland.

You can smoke on the patio (minus one star). Food took a while to arrive, it was all kind of bland! Got the smash burger (small, perhaps a 6oz patty), chicken burger, land lovers pizza (poor crust, soggy and no flavor), and the fish and chips. The fish and chips was probably the best of the lot, hot, crispy and well cooked. Both burgers came with like 10 French fries (not literally, but you get the picture).

Dr Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing has a great atmosphere, music and food quality. The Rudi’s Pilsener beer was excellent as well. I reach the place without reservation and i managed to find a table close to the viaduct side. Staff was friendly and kind.

A lovely bar/restaurant with a great view over Auckland’s marina. It has a really nice atmosphere, friendly service, and the food is absolutely delicious. I ordered a vodka and apple juice, but it didn’t seem to contain any alcohol. After mentioning this, I was immediately offered a replacement — which turned out to be the same taste. I assume the standards for mixed drinks are much lighter here. After pointing it out again, they promptly offered me a refund. A very professional and honest place — definitely worth a visit!

The best part of this place was the rooftop view of the Harbour. The food was okay - nothing to rave about. The beer was good. The waiter was very off putting and not very nice. He would just walk up to the table and stand there just expecting us to say what we wanted - it was odd. I don’t think I’d go back.

Love love love! Best place for a pre night out, roof top cocktails and a waterfront view! Highly recommend

Attended the Drag Quiz Night at Dr Rudi’s. The food (Oysters, fries and pizza) were delicious, as was the mocktail. The staff were friendly and attentive as well. Would definitely return - such a good energy and good quality restaurant. Things for improvement: The table was incredibly wobbly/unstable, which made it feel very precarious. The quiz was also quite short.

Thank you Dr. Rudi's brewery for showing me such a great time (especially New Years Eve) during my stay in Auckland. From the beers, food, employees, and the customers. It's the best place to hang out in the city! Thank you! From San Diego!

We stopped here for a late lunch. With time zones all messed up on our first day here, we wanted to split something and keep it light. We chose the Caesar salad with chicken. It came with a hard boiled egg, bacon, grilled chicken, Romain lettuce, garlic bread and a yummy dressing. It was so good and really hit the spot for healthy and hearty. When we arrived, we were handed 2 menus and instructed to sit anywhere we chose. Lots of seating, both in and outdoor. The outdoor patio had a cover which helped those patrons as it was drizzling on and off most of the day. I had a nice sauv Blanc. We got a pitcher of water. Everything was well done and absolutely delicious. Plus, we got to watch some Sunday night American football as we had lunch.

Dr. Rudi's is conveniently located at Viaduct Harbour and has some of the best views. Unfortunately when I visited, I'd already eaten, so I cannot comment on the food. I seated myself outside to enjoy the harbour view and perused the menu to order a beer paddle (or flight). I was seriously underwhelmed by the beer options. The highest ABV beer there was like 6%...that's insane to a beer snob like myself. Not sure which beers I ordered for the paddle but I recall only liking one. I'd say Dr. Rudi's could be a great experience but only if the beers get better.

We weren't terribly hungry but looking for hors d'oeuvres/ snacks. Went through all the options ate the Princes Pier and decided on Dr. Rudi's. So glad we did. We ate outside (and froze my behind off --- I hate the cold and we were even sitting under the heat vent, lol) to enjoy the view! Being from the states, we tried to get as close to American fare as possible. This place nailed the gold ol' burger! The 'dirty sauce' as they called it... soooo good!!! The portion of a single patty and some fries was perfect! The customer service in this place was second to none! They all worked together to provide a superb customer experience! They impressed me most when another customer said she was cold.... The staff brought her a Sherpa blanket! Won't see a restaurant in the states do that!!! Hands down... highly recommended!

Thought this was a tourist location... But surprisingly so many locals were here, so I stand corrected. A locals hangout in a tourist location. Quality/Quantity - Sampled two beers and settled for Rudis APA 425ml (14.4oz). It was a good beer, but the glass sure seemed smaller than 14.4oz, maybe because it was a "highball" glass...? Fairly extensive drink menu, see picture. Lots of different promotions including happy hour, see pictures. Atmosphere - Beautiful views, and perfect for "people watching." 3rd floor rooftop. Cool decor. Open kitchen, but we already ate, so no food for us. I got lucky and got the best seat in the house. Well until everyone around us started smoking. Service - Okay, when we checked in at the door, we told the host that we are here just for one beer. But the waitress seemed disappointed that we only ordered one beer. But this is a no tip society, actually tip and tax are always included in the price; love it. The US can learn from this! Anyways, she took our order and someone else finally delivered our one beer. Not sure if she ever came back, even though I opened a tab just in case I wanted to drink more. FYI - You can order via QR code also, but the waitress told us to order from her. Counter service is also available. They also take reservations. Price - $14.50 NZ; $8.70 US. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success; you were crazy busy when we got here. Great, you are able to cater to both locals and tourists.

My wife and I were on vacation in Auckland and we walked for about three hours along the harbor. The place is super clean and we went during the weekend and it was PACKED. After so much walking, I was ready for a beer. I ordered a seasonal IPA from the bar and brought it outside to overlook the harbor. It was a great respite after so much walking, and I saw lots of great food going by. The pizza looked great! If I would be near here again, I would definitely get some food, as it looked scrumptious,

Plusses: 1. Pizza by the foot was good, nice beer selection. 2. Outdoor seating looked nice, wish we could have sat there. Minuses: 1. Unfortunately, we had to sit inside--with ear splitting dance music and two bowling lanes adjacent. Conversation was impossible. 2. We were ordering on our phones off the QR code menu (almost finished) when a server showed up and said he had to take the order. Hmmm...why? So we ordered with him, except he kept getting it wrong. Just let me use the website. 3. The server then said he had to hold our credit card to place the order. They keep them in a binder that's at the hostess station, which was often unattended. This seems less than ideal in a busy bar/restaurant in a tourist area. DInner was good, but we would probably not go back.

What an exclusive feeling! Cocktail bar/ lounge/club/ restaurant!! Outstanding patio overlooking the pier! Tasty lamb ribs and amazing burgers. Indoor bowling was a cool touch.

I stopped by one evening on the weekend with my coworkers after a friend suggested we go here. We came a little earlier in the night (8ish) so it was easy for our large group to find a table. They have a great selection of drinks and beers. They also have a decent food menu. I only tried the pizza but thought it was pretty good. The music is great and they have an outdoor area where you can see the marina. It does seem a bit touristy but there were a lot of local people here that we met. They did have a weird dress code to be noted. My coworker had a pullover on and it wasn't until we were already there for almost two hours that security told her she couldn't wear it. It was after another round of pizza, that she ordered, had came, so she spoke to the manager and he had her tuck the hood inside..? Weird. She only had a bandeau on under it and put it on because it had rained on the way there. Security stopped her again after this and I don't really see what the issue was if she was let in with it on and was ordering drinks and food for no issue until the second hour.

The pizza was awesome, the beer was good and the view was dope. I hate complaining about the service, It isn't an easy job, and can be rather thankless. That said, oh my lord the service is bad here, No one seemed to have a clue what was going on. We waited over 20 minutes for 2 draft beers each time we ordered and there were probably 12 customers in the place. Tourist trap.

This was our last stop in Auckland before heading back home. We started with their spiced apple cider made in house which was light and crisp. My husband ordered the fish tacos which were slightly fishy in my opinion but he enjoyed them, and they definitely didn't skimp on the amount of fish. I ordered the bang bang chicken noodle salad which was delish along with a side of fries. The views from the rooftop are great and service was really friendly. The one room for improvement tip is that we tried to order from the QR code scan but it needed to send a text verification for payment which I've never seen before. We had turned off our data since we were abroad and were only connected through WiFi so I couldn't receive any texts outside of iMessage, and therefore we were unable to order or pay through our phones. The server was very nice and took our orders and held our credit card up front until we were ready to pay. Apparently they have had several people try to leave without paying so they now hold a credit card until you're ready to pay. Overall great laid back restaurant/bar on the water

Really no need to stop here. The food was a 2 at best, but the view was spectacular, which is why people go here I guess. Had better food (with the same view) next door at Parasol and Swing. The service situation was weird as well - had a server for dinner order then never saw her again. Had to go to the bar each time after that and they would bring the drinks to us. Hard pass.

The food was so delicious. And of course the view is amazing too! All the waitstaff was friendly and helpful.

What a great view to have your NZ wine and beer, with wonderful beer battered fries, and prosciutto & duck fat potato pizza. Awesome indeed

I was looking for a local bar or brewery that offered a nice variety of New Zealand beers a few locals recommended this place. They are located right by the marina, if you can grab a seat outside on the balcony you'll enjoy some great views. It was to packed when I visited. Went up to the counter to check out the large selection of beers. I went with a sampler of 4 beers for $20. Rudi's pale ale, simple and smooth. Pointers pale ale was ok not my favorite. Rudi's lager 5% was a crisp taste and a popular pick. The one I enjoyed the most was the Rudi's IPA strong flavor. Disappointed they didn't have a bar area to sit at...since I was here by myself. They have two bowling lanes but they were taken over by a group of people for the time I was there.(entertaining watching people go up and ask if they were almost done, each time they just started a game ) A few pinball machines. I enjoyed my sample and had a pint of the IPA.

Dr. Rudi's Rooftop Brewing Co. was a solid spot to enjoy a beer on a Friday night! Overlooking the marina area, this place combines a view with some brewed in house beers. We tried their beer flight deal for 4 beers for $20. Our flight included Rudi's Lager, Tuatara Aotearoa, Tuatara Hazy, and Tiger. We also had a sample of their Rudi's IPA and crushed apple cider. The beers were all quite unique and each had a complexity that's different from the American beers we are used to. The Tuatara Hazy was my favorite out of everything we tried. This place definitely gets crowded for a reason especially on a Friday night. I wish we could have gotten a table overlooking the water, but we settled for a table inside. Food is available, the DJ was playing some fun music, and they even have 2 bowling lanes and pinball machines available as well. I would definitely come here again!

Great place for NZ beers! We were in the mood to try some local NZ beers and we're glad we stumbled upon this place. We decided to split a sampler of 4, and you could choose any 4 of their beers on tap. We chose their most popular Rudi's lager, Tuatara Aotearoa, Tuatara Hazy Pale Ale, and Tiger. Each beer was unique and refreshing in their own way and I'm glad we chose the sampler to get a variety of what the local breweries have to offer. The waitress even let us sample a couple before we settled down on our sampler choices. Despite being a crowded Friday night, we were able to snag a spot at a table. Would return!

On a very rainy and cold first day in Auckland, it made it feel like there wasn't much to do. We braved the weather and I did my thing and looked for a brewery. Auckland CBD doesn't have that many truth be told, most are in the suburbs outside of walking distance. Dr. Rudi's Rooftop Brewing Co was just the place we needed. It's the top floor of a building overlooking Auckland Harbour, with outdoor seating, protected outdoor seating, and a large indoor restaurant area. They had a huge bar with all manner of hard drinks, soft drinks, and of course beer. Their selection had a lot of guest taps from other breweries. At the time of our visit, they had six selections from Dr. Rudi's Brewing, made on the property! I ordered a tasting flight of 4 sticking to the New Zealand hops and styles. The bartender also gave me two free tastes of the others, just so I could try them all. The restaurant had a lot of business type people enjoying a working lunch, while we sat and took a break from the rain. I enjoyed their beer, but the view was the real draw here!

My husband and I stopped in here on our first day in New Zealand after touring Mount Eden. We grabbed a spot on the balcony, and it was the most perfect day to drink beer and look out over the harbor. The place is really large, especially on the inside. So come alone or bring a group! There seems to be something to eat and drink for everyone (a really great selection on beers, and they were well made). The prices are reasonable and the food was very tasty (we split 2 appetizers). I would definitely come back here as the staff was super friendly and there is nothing negative I could say about this place- even the restrooms are very clean! One thing I loved, that i started to notice was a "thing" in New Zealand is there are growlers full of water that you just grab for the table- I drink tons of water, so it's great that I don't have to bug a server for water.

Great view, delicious sangria. We had the fish wings which were very different but very good! Also the Brie jalapeño poppers. Everything was delicious until a smoker came and smoked next to us. I told her please stop waving it near me as I am very allergic and she did stop. (She was taking photos with the lit cigarette in her hand and it kept wafting in my face!) very good service nice ambiance seats are very uncomfortable though, our only complaint!

So far the only place in the North Island that offers Non-Alcoholic wine, and IT WAS GOOD! I tried the NA Rosè and it was delicious. Staff were very kind, my cold chicken noodle salad was delightful. 5 GIANT stars for offering NA wines and not just NA Beers.

Great location for lunch and a beer. Service was friendly and efficient. Food portions were good. The snapper wings were delicious, as well as their burgers. Their brewed on-site beer is good too.

Went to this restaurant for lunch after a late morning harbor cruise. We were given the option of eating indoors or outside on the patio. Given the gorgeous weather and sunshine we readily chose the outdoor seating. The menu is large; however, more than 1/2 the menu is comprised of starters. My husband and I decided to go the pizza route. You can order any pizza by the foot (1, 2, or 3 feet). I really wish there were 1/2 foot options well. We decided to go with the 2 foot option and chose the chicken satay with peanut butter sauce and the sausage and fennel pizza. We had about a 1/3 of the pizza for great leftovers. Couldn't try any alcohol this time because of pregnancy. But they did serve my water in a cute 0% ABV bottle. I knew we chose the right restaurant when this place was full and the restaurant next door was almost totally empty!

Dr Rudi's was a cool atmosphere. Very lively. This place has extremely loud music playing. Good music but loud, so be aware of that before you go. I had a great Lager -Rooftop Lager from Dr Rudi's brewery. Their Jam Sesh cocktail was refreshing. Food looked good however we didn't eat. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating.

They're trying to give an authentic brewery experience; complete with on draft fresh beers, flight options, and guest taps, however this means their beers are a bit pricier compared to just picking some restaurant bar nearby...but the views are what makes Dr. Rudi's worth it. Grabbing a beer from the bar, you can self seat yourself on a high top along the patio, or at a small table under umbrellas. These seating options look out onto the viaduct providing the most amazing Auckland experience. Granted I wasn't a fan of their beer, a bit too pale, plain ale compared to other brewers nearby, but we were really glad to take some downtime to enjoy the beauty of Auckland in this location. High above the harbor it was fantastic to watch the boaters getting ready, and masses walk by. It's worth the price. Like beer and a show.

Location, location, location!!! This place has nailed it with an amazing spot on the rooftop overlooking the marina. It has a darling patio with roll up doors and did I mention the views? Ok, it does get crowded on the patio though, especially during nice weather or when there is an event going on in the marina. With a decent size menu, we opted to try the pizza which you order by the foot. We went with the smallest size, 1 foot for the 2 of us and shared a salad. The pizza is very thin crust so what sounds like a lot of food actually isn't. Both the pizza and salad were delicious! I was more than satisfied and it was just the right amount of food for me not to be to full. My husband on the other hand would have preferred a bigger portion. He said he could have eaten the whole pizza himself easily.

Nice rooftop bar with a view of the Marina. The server was friendly and was recommending us drinks. We ordered pizza which was good. Our server forgot to bring us our second beer for quite some time and to make up for it, he did not add it to the bill, which was pretty sweet. Since we went on new years time, they were adding 15% to the bill. Nice place for a chill bite and drink.

Very good food and good service. We couldn't help ourselves and had to try the Nutella and banana pizza; very good! Should have eaten less, but it was all too tasty.

Had a great lunch with my wife. We are visiting from the States and we enjoy trying local places that have their own brewed beer. We had a few of the in house brews and they were very good. We ordered two difference pizzas and they were excellent. They had tons of different flavor components and blended perfectly together. The Big Mac pizza tasted exactly like the burger. We also tried the pork belly pizza and it was very good. Everything was cooked to perfection and we didn't have to wait very long. Our server was very nice and personable. Overall it was a great lunch and we would come back again for sure!

We stopped by for a late lunch. We split the wings and broccoli salad along with a couple of NZ beers. The view and location are spectacular. Service was a bit spotty. We were on the outside deck and I had to go inside to get a second round of beers.

Amazing experience! Wonderful view, the customer service was super friendly, even being busy on a Friday night the bartender was fast didn't have to wait long for a drink. The food was absolutely delicious. Burger was super juicy but the pork bites were slightly too crispy Drinks are very creative and different than any standard drinks you would find at other bars. Their own brewery IPA was not too hoppy, which is how i typically like my IPAs. It is bit pricy so prepare to spend some money especially if you are going to have multiple drinks

This is a good location if you value a good view at sunset. Popular with young professionals in happy hour. The restaurant seemed understaffed, with difficulties both at the host stand and the table with lack of attention from the server. The beer list wasn't great, with many brews that rate poorly on Untapped. Looking at other tables, pizza was by far the most popular dish. We ordered the satay pizza and it was really good.

Really liked the variety of NZ beers and the staff was friendly. On the other hand, the food wasn't anything extraordinary. The food was fine, but it wasn't anything special compared to other restaurants in the area.

Great spot to grab drinks and/or food. Had a in door out door spot and couldn't have been more satisfied with the view and vibes of this place. Various food options, with a large selection of pizza's.. beer was great, I tried their wheat beer and would order it again.

Went to this restaurant yesterday and I had a cocktail, some fries and Nachos. It was really crowded at the time, so it took us some time to find seating but luckily we got one. There is a great view of the viaduct and also the sunset if you find the right spot of the bar at the right time. The cocktail was really refreshing. I had a Midnight Express which was really good, and had a cute little garnish on it. The food was also really good. The chips (which was fried in beer and served with aioli) was nicely done, and the fish Nachos was also good, although not your usual Nachos. Also- the staff were really friendly and when we left something behind, the staff also alerted us that we left an item behind so they were honest as well. Definitely will come back here for more food/drinks.

Food was ok. Portions huge, views great. Prices ok. Good if u want huge volume with a view. It's bar food :)

Ordered a round of rum and cokes on Saturday night. The flavouring in their soft-drink thing had apparently run out as I'm essentially serviced rum and water. Take it back to the bar asking the same bar tender for a new round, she checks the coke, agrees that it's now water, consults who I can only presume is the bar manager, who refuses to provide new rounds because we haven't returned all the drinks in full. I point out that perhaps this is their mistake and therefor they should provide a new round, manager leans over the bar and yells "I'm not arguing with you!" twice. Even the other bar tender looks embarrassed. Could've just owned it and served new drinks. What a prick. Terrible service.

This a really hot spot! It is really spacious but good luck getting outdoor seating. We were able to grab the last two seats outside. This area is filled with bars and restaurants so no worries on that end. Plenty of beers had a few and they were good. Pizza seems to be big here everyone had one at their table. We ordered a margarita and also polenta fries. Margarita just wasn't good big grape tomatoes on it which may I suggest you cut! I was afraid to bite it as it was pipping hot. The pizza wasn't nearly as hot but those grape tomatoes watch out! Polenta fries were ok but incredibly filling! I would definitely come back and just have beers and just would dine elsewhere.

Great location but lack luster food and service. Drinks were sub par. They need to expand their menu and increase the quality.

After 16 hour flight and early afternoon arrival, Dr Rudi's was perfect place for drinks, food (fish tacos!!!) and intro to Auckland CBD vibe. Great views of marina. Fun international staff. Wide ranging menu and solid beer list. Went back few days later ... same great waitress but alas out of some of the entrees we wanted to try ... but would go back again.

I'm not a massive fan of Dr Rudi's because of the price point here and there are so many other places dotted around the harbour that you could go to. It's okay for a drink, the food isn't that great and it is quite busy. If you go here during the day it's better and if you do want to go somewhere to party at night or go for some drinks I'd recommend elsewhere.

We went here last night around 5:00 p.m. for some beer and an appetizer and had a great experience. First off, the hostess was beyond polite and told us to pick any seat that we wanted and even pointed us in the right direction of some open seating that faces the water. We got a beer flight for $20 and the pours were a good side. I'd recommend the brisket sliders too - they were so tasty. They have free WiFi so that's wonderful for people traveling around and needing to get connected to the outside world. They have a lot of bench type seating so you'll most likely have to share your table with some strangers but everyone in Auckland is so friendly so it wasn't an issue. The space is big so you shouldn't have to struggle to find a spot. Cheers and enjoy!

It gets 5 for atmosphere but 3 for food. Wings were decent, jalapeño poppers okay, ceviche terrible. Fun place though with good vibes and nice folks.

Loved the environment, amazing views and service! Molly was prompt with the food/drinks and very helpful when suggesting places to see during my visit.

If you want a place to enjoy some delicious pizza and beer with an incredible view look no more and stop here. Staff was very friendly and was very attentive all around. I spent a little while enjoying a delicious pizza and taking in the view second to none.

Awesome food and drink! I had the chicken wings and wife had the chicken noodle salad. The house IPa was excellent as well.

Great views!! a friend & I stopped by for the rooftop views. If you are a beer lover this is the place for you! There are lots of options. We just had a glass of wine which they did have a good selection. I would definitely go back again for the views.

We were recommended this place from our uber driver while visiting NZ for vacation. The atmosphere is great, the service is great, and the food is amazing. We ordered their seafood platter, their rib platter, and other dishes. Our favorites were everything. Definitely coming back when we visit NZ again.
