7 things to know about bunraku, the traditional Japanese puppet theatre - SilverKris

"This Singapore venue hosted the country’s first complete bunraku performance on October 22–23 as part of celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of a cultural hub run by the Japanese embassy, demonstrating local presentation of traditional Japanese performing arts." - Joy Fang

I was on row AA in the dress circle. My view was blocked a bit by the handbars, or perhaps its cos I have a shorter torso. I think it would be alright to sit on the next row in the dress circle (and usually priced cheaper than AA) and the view would be just fine as the seats are not on the same ground (ie the seats behind are higher than the seat in front)

It’s my second time watching a show at the Drama Centre. The theatre is still well maintained and aircon is just right. We watched a Mando Pop Musical - Partial Eclipse of the Heart by The Theatre Practice. Overall, it was a nice experience at the Drama Centre. I think having more choices of F&B at NLB would be good for patrons to have a quick bite before going for the performance.

Ample parking for the building. Well designed seat placement ensure that even if a tall person is seated right before me, my view of the stage remains unobstructed.

Watched The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Animal Farm here. Conducive environment, interestingly located within a library.

Near to mrt, malls and so on. The place is very cozy and cooling. Decent sound system. Will be back for other events.

Caught Animal Farm at the Drama Centre Theatre—great experience all around. The seats were comfy with lots of legroom, and the aircon was just right. The sound system was OK but there’s some room for improvement. The show was a modern puppet performance where the actors wore the animal puppets on their bodies, which made it super creative and engaging. Strong performances and a fresh, powerful take on Orwell’s classic. Well worth seeing!

My maiden voyage here was to see a restage of The Finger Players' "Turn By Turn We Turn". Who knew there was great theatre to be enjoyed within the confines of the National Library Building? Take the elevators to the 5th floor, take a right on the first hallway you see, and the box will be waiting for you. There is a good space outside that's perfect for waiting before the theatre opens. There were also some bench/sofa things* if you're looking for a place to sit. For this performance, The Finger Players utilized the space by having an exhibition set up with photos on the walls and displays of really cool puppets from their past performances. The theatre itself is exactly as described: it's a black box! The walls and ceilings are black. The chairs are okay; not too plush but they get the job done. The sound system was top notch, though a little loud at times. I thought it was really cold inside; I was fine but for those who get cold easily, be sure to bring a sweater! I found it to be a very intimate venue, perfect for watching plays put on by local theatre troupes. I highly recommend catching a show here at least once! -- *I do not know my furniture terms. Basically, it's the kind that you see at art museums that you're allowed to sit on, but it doesn't have a back. What are those called?!
