The 28 Best Things to Do in Iceland, From Puffin Spotting to Bread Baking

"There’s only one company that takes people there, aptly named Drangey Tours, and you’ll want to dedicate an entire afternoon to the excursion. After a 20-minute boat ride from Sauðárkrókur marina, you’ll set out for a steep hike."

One of my favorite experiences within my 8 day trip to Iceland. Tour is guided by a Father/Son team who are friendly and knowledgable giving you a history about the island. We were able to see: -Thousands of Puffins -Humpback Whales & Minke Whales feeding on sardines -Kittiwakes -Fulmars -Shearwaters Cannot recommend enough; however, please be aware to steep heights and a ladder climb.

Best experience in Iceland! Very nice, fast boat to island then a hike/climb up to the top through bird nesting cliffs. Excellent guide to explain the island history, puffin habits and even takes photos! Stunning and it'd be impossible to miss the 500,000 puffins living there all summer. Also see loads of kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills and more.

We emailed the morning before we wanted to go and got the last two seats on the tour, highly recommend to email before and get on the list. The hike at the beginning is moderate to advance at the beginning, there were a few people in our group that didn't even try, they just stayed at the boat. On the island it was great, heard fun stories, had coffee, walked to different views, saw lots and lots of puffins. We did get to see a whale surface out in the water, was a fun excursion!

The most amazing tour. On our tour the father was the skipper and the son gave the tour. Warning……there is a steep narrow climb to the top of the island, there are ropes, rock/wood steps and ladders. Very uneven terrain. Our guide was amazing, very knowledgeable and respectful of this amazing place and its inhabitants.

The best tour in Iceland! With a fast boat you go in 30 minutes to Drangey. On the island you take stairs and ladders to the top at 180 meters. Amazing views and lots of puffins. Everything is guided by the very friendly guide/owner of the company! GO AND DO THIS TOUR :-)

An incredible experience! Never seen so many birds and puffins! There is a steep climb to arrive on the island but it is very worthwhile!

Early August we had a very good number of birds (including numerous puffins). Hike on the island involve a ladder and several ropes. 3h30 to 4h tour overall (boat+hike). Nice guides. Bring your picnic. I strongly recommend. Book by email or text in advance if you can (availability same day might not be for the time you wish).
