This charming B&B oozes old world charm from every nook and corner. Even the microwave oven is from "NOSTALGIA ELECTRICS" and is branded "RETROWAVE". Kathleen and Roger are hosts par excellence. The breakfast is to die for served piping hot. The rooms spotless and done in nostalgic drapery and linen. The location is withing walking distance of downtown Elora. You cannot go wrong when you choose to stay here.
Being from India, Kathleen informed us that Elora has a special connection to our home country. Here's the story -
"The village of Elora was founded in 1832 by Captain William Gilkison, a Scottish-born British officer who had served in the War of 1812. Upon returning from India, Gilkison purchased 14,000 acres of land near the Grand River’s falls and established a settlement. Initially named Irvine Settlement, the community was later renamed Elora when the post office was established in 1839. Gilkison named the village after his brother’s ship, which was inspired by the Ellora Caves near Aurangabad."
Here's my two rupees worth - I think both the brothers confused Ellora with Ajanta which is where the most impressive rock-cut caves are in a gorge like feature. Ellora is most famous for its rock cut Kailasa Temple; not its caves.
We hope you too experience and enjoy Drew House and Elora.
