Drifter Jack's Hostel

I had a great stay at the hostel. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. It feels pretty much closer to the "home feel". It's super accessible to nearby stores and restaurants. Everything I need is within reach. There are amenities such as a TV room where people gather around and meet people, shared bathroom is kept clean plus there's morning coffee. Public transportation is super accessible. I never tried Public transportation but I see buses just around the corner. Great vibe in the neighbourhood. I had a great stay overall.

I really love staying here, they are very accommodating I was able to change back into the all girls room because for some reason i don’t book multiple nights in advance lol so I ended up in a mixed dorm. They did have something for Thanksgiving which I thought was nice to do for travelers but I ended up falling asleep so I missed it unfortunately. Overall it’s a safe place to sleep, given the fact you are sharing a space there is going to be some noise but not excessive.

Stayed 1 night here for a conference, it was easy to find, staff was really nice... as with every hostel the people who stay there are unpredictable but that's what you expect when you stay here. The bathroom was nice and private. The room felt very damp and moist and did not ventilate the room very well so if someone in your room had some heavy BO, you'd know right away.

I spent a week at Drifter Jack's in April 2019, and was blown away by how great the social environment in the hostel is. They have a handful of wonderful, chill resident staffers who have created a really welcoming and easygoing social dynamic, people just hanging around, sometimes going out together, always laid back and open-minded. I met a handful of young travelers from all over the world. The beds were comfortable for a hostel, everything was clean, the showers were hot with good pressure, free laundry machines, everyone was super helpful. They have a nice space back from the street with an outdoor hangout area, a pool table. It's easy to meet people. Nice location off Guadalupe near UT. I have no complaints really, just an awesome hostel experience through and through. PS. Get a tattoo from Kip if he's still around, he's a pro.

The vibe is super chill and colorful. The people and staff are incredible, they go above and beyond to help you out. Everyone here was cool and interesting. The culture at this hostel promotes respect and kindness. You feel like you're friends with everyone the minute you enter. The area is perfect if vibes are a priority for you. Almost every wall, including the hostel's, is filled with art and expression. Plenty of seriously good coffeeshops, delicious eateries and hangout spots in the area. Will be returning to Austin just so I can stay at Drifter Jack's again.

Couldn't have asked for a better hostel experience! The location is perfect, walking distance to food, cool shopping (Buffalo Exchange, a sweet record shop, and some awesome vintage shops are just a short walk down the road), the staff is friendly and super helpful, the place is clean and I felt safe the entire time I was there. I definitely found a new home away from home in Austin, and recommend it to anyone looking for a great stay!

The location was nice. Two bus stops within a minute walking distance of the hostel. There are several restaurants near by. In each room there is a mini fridge and storage. You can buy a lock or bring your own. There is a larger refrigerator that guest can use. There is always someone at the front desk and they are really nice. This is my first time staying at a hostel and I really enjoyed it.

As a first time visitor to Austin and considering a move there, I wanted to be able to envelop myself in the culture of the city. And while Austin has a lot to offer and varying feels, if you're a fan of the artsy and the indie, Drifter Jack's is the way to go. It's a good spot located within walking distance of the University of Texas, and centrally connected to some integral bus lines to get around the city for your quirky, sight-seeing needs. Not only is the location is good, but the staff is very friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. The provided breakfast is very thoughtful and helpful to anyone on a budget and with time to spare. The place is kept pretty clean, and the hallways and common rooms are painted with vibrant art. In my time, I met many travelers there and a good degree of folks who have stayed here for an extended period. I stayed 3 nights, and didn't have a single problem with the establishment, the staff, or the provided services. By the time I left, I was a bit sad to go, but felt I got an experience that's better than a hotel or motel. If you're a young traveler looking into Austin for school, or just wanting to see different cities, or even interact with new people this is the place you want to stay. Make sure to call ahead as they get busy during festivals. But overall, if I go back to Austin, I know where I'm headed first.
