America’s Most Beautiful Vineyards for Harvest Season

"Perched on a bluff overlooking the vineyards in Texas Hill Country’s grasslands and rolling hills, I can soak up a so-called “million-dollar view” from the tasting room and winery or sit down to a full menu at Driftwood Bistro, which is open on weekends." - Katie Kelly Bell

Google
My friend and I visited this winery today and had such a wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm and welcoming. The wine was absolutely delicious — we enjoyed every sip while taking in the breathtaking views of the vineyard. We visited on a weekday, so the bistro wasn’t open, but the peaceful atmosphere made for the perfect, relaxing afternoon. I’ve noticed some reviews mention the winery’s policy on no children or infants — personally, I appreciated the adults-only setting, as it added to the tranquil and serene experience. This is a gem of a spot, and I can’t wait to come back when the bistro is open. Highly recommend for a peaceful escape, great wine, and beautiful scenery!

Wife and I love coming to this winery when we visit Austin. Been coming for years and we love it. The wine they make is super and so is the bistro.

We had the most amazing time at the Driftwood Estate Winery! Not only were the views and wine incredible, our service was unbeatable. We had Carol do our wine tasting and she was a HOOT! She made the entire experience even better than we expected. I can’t wait to go back! 🖤

Google
Tasted 6 wines for $25 from a wine list. Most wines are dry but there's a delicious Tempranillo and Sangiovese Reserve that's well balanced. The Alamo red is also delicious. Tempranillo cost $43, Sangiovese Reserve cost $45 a bit pricey. Server who served us was attentive. They have an old fashioned way to settle tasting fee and purchases & not all workers are friendly. I'll come back to give them a 2nd chance.

Google
Carol, the wine taster was amazing. This experience definitely opened me up. And I will be bringing a group of people next time

Google
Absolutely stunning property!! The best part . . . NO CHILDREN UNDER 21 ALLOWED!! The wines are delicious and the views are breathtaking. It’s a must go to winery!

Google
We've been wine club members for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the wonderful views and fine wines. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always greeting us with a smile. Highly recommended!

Google
Loved this place! Breathtaking views, great wine, and the friendliest staff. I also really appreciated that it’s adults-only—it made the atmosphere so peaceful. Can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
Hello views!! The tasting room (wine and customer service) is on point. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the employees (especially, Larin) during our tasting and the cute gift shop. All of the wines were great, not disappointed (you get to pick 6 wines). Afterwards, we went over to the bistro which lead to the 4 stars. We only got the "basic" charcuterie board; which was good when you need a snack but not what we expect from the vineyard. The server was nice but not very antintative; small adjustments would make this a five star place. We still recommend if you want a nice glass of wine in the Wimberley area.

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday for a tasting, and while it was pretty busy, they were able to squeeze our group in. The views of the hill country from the patio were absolutely stunning, but unfortunately, the tasting itself wasn't my favorite experience. The setup felt a bit cramped with so many different tastings happening at once, and because of that, you didn't get a lot of hands-on attention from the staff. They were doing their best to keep up, but it definitely impacted the experience of learning more about each wine. The standard tasting includes your choice of 6 wines from their current releases for $25. After the tasting, I grabbed a glass of wine and enjoyed it outside with my friends, soaking up that beautiful view. Driftwood is definitely worth it for the scenery, but I'd love to see a more relaxed tasting experience next time.

Yelp
Parking - plenty, free Note: Road - leading up to this winery is a very bumpy dirt road; don't bring a low rider lol Service - friendly and attentive Views - beautiful rolling hills overlooking vineyard and a glimpse of a stream Menu - not vegetarian forward, not many options for vegetarian, non for vegans. Chimichurri beef w was well liked by hubby. Good flavors, good portion, not dry. Wines - not many whites, 1 rose (strawberries and cream profile), some great reds. Was pleasantly surprised at the complexity of the wines here.

Yelp
Another visit on our October Texas wine passport. Always a pleasure to visit this winery. The tasting servers are friendly and knowledgeable. As usual, I found something cute in the gift shop, too. We enjoyed the Lonestar this year.
google avatar

Yelp
Bucolic scenery, enjoyed the wine better than Freidricksburg, not crowded & nice employees
google avatar

Yelp
Ventured up the hill to the Driftwood Estate Winery and found the prettiest views! We enjoyed a nice lunch at the bistro and then walked over to the tasting room. Unfortunately the staff was not knowledgeable so we just ordered a white and rose from the list. We didn't really care for our choices but I would certainly go back again just for the food & views. Hopefully next time we can do a tasting and enjoy the pavilion. I will say the long, dusty road is less than ideal but the views are great. And there were so many dogs that honestly I could have stayed all afternoon!

Yelp
Being a member certainly has perks! Live music, wine tasting and a free burger. Oh and the people watching was on point. Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. The award winning wine is tasty and the view is pretty great.

Yelp
Had a great New Years Eve with friends at Driftwood Estate Winery. Enjoyed the wine tasting and learning about tannins and the different types of wines and why they taste the way they do. The lady who guided our party was very knowledgeable and personable, which made the experience extra fun. I'm not a wine drinker but enjoyed the wines on offer.

Michelle K.

Yelp
This review is based purely upon curb appeal and ambience. It was so bad that we literally drove up and turned back around. It looks like you've arrived at a run down trailer park with trailers and miscellaneous buildings scattered around. There is absolutely no curb appeal, just a dirt parking lot and plastic hazard fence. The building for the wine tastings didn't look much better. We only had time for one winery visit and didn't want to waste it there. Needs a serious revamp if they wish to be competitive to neighboring wineries.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a wine tasting on a rainy Sunday. This has some of the best views of the Hill country, great 360 Panaromic views. They have some great wines I was impressed with their red wines and their sweet wine. They also have a cafe that is on the premises, I did not eat there. They have light snacks and sandwiches. It is a little bumpy ride going up to the winery so be careful on which car you do bring. It involves a dirt and muddy road.

Yelp
Very nice people. Had a glass of the Tempranillo and the Alamo. Both very good. We bought a bottle of the Alamo to have with a charcuterie plate in the evening. Super nice outside area to sit and enjoy a glass or a bottle with friends.

Yelp
What a lovely and relaxing experience! My friend and I were in Dripping Springs for a nice getaway, and who goes to the Hill Country without doing a little wine tasting? What I loved first was how it sat perfectly on this beautiful green hill, and perfect outdoor seating to enjoy the sunset while sipping local wine. Ms.Cheryl and Ms. Laryn we're super nice and attentive during the tasting. It almost felt as if you walked into their home, and they were waiting on guest to arrive to open the perfect bottle. We were able to sip some great choices (Alamo Red-blend) was my favorite, so of course I had to buy a bottle. I can really see myself going back!

Yelp
I've been coming here for YEARS. Drove more than an hour today with a large group that included three children only to discover NO children (no one under 21 ) allowed!!!??? we wont be back. this used to be a family friendly venue
google avatar

Michaela P.

Yelp
Still gorgeous views and pretty good wine. Unfortunately, they've become too commercialized. No longer family friendly. Can't bring a picnic basket (wouldn't want to compete with the mediocre bistro). Ended our 10 year membership and will find another go to.
google avatar

Brien M.

Yelp
OMG. Yes. Really. OMG The wines are really well made, and although I favored some over others, I see why they win so many medals. The tasting isn't inexpensive but the pours are generous and the quality is superior to many other wineries. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The terrace view is panoramic and spectacular. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this winery again when avoiding I-35 back to Austin from San Marcos.

Yelp
Carol was our wine tasting experience . Super friendly, it was a Tuesday so we had the place to ourselves pretty much. Beautiful area you can see the vineyard from up top. Dogs welcome, to s of land outside for the doggies yo play in. We tasted award winning wine from TEXAS grapes! I'll just bet that when the temperature is a bit WARMER, and the sunshine's one would have a memorable time relaxing and enjoying a bottle or two Some nibbles you can purchase, not a whole lot the time we were there, remember it was TUESDAY

Yelp
We made a quick stop at this winery and enjoyed the view while having a glass of wine. I chose a jammy Cabernet called Lone Star Cab that was perfect. They do wine tasting but I just opted for a glass of what I knew that I would enjoy. The cafe was not open but they had items that paired well with wine. I'm sure it is busy in the weekend. The Cafe is small so get your food to go and enjoy one of the many cozy spots to view the vineyards. The staff were very friendly and the store was very clean. They have gifts as well. If we were in town longer, We would have come back for lunch. The road to the vineyard is gravel so drive slow. Parking is free and plentiful. Follow the signs as the vineyard is about a mile up from the main road.

Yelp
Amazing time here. Such beautiful scenery and knowledgeable hostesses! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We booked a tasting here while we were in town celebrating our bride-to-be friend during her bachelorette party. One of the to-do's on her list included a wine tasting, and we made it out Driftwood on a weekend. I recommend booking in advance and not dropping in (unless you are meeting up with some friends or family who have a reservation themselves) because it can get crowded inside of the winery. There is plenty of space outside with a beautiful view as well. We had a great tasting host who was super knowledgeable about all of the wines and made us super comfortable asking a million questions we had about the process, the different types of wines, and what could pair well with each wine. She kept is going and stayed on time for our time reservation so that we could have enough time to do some shopping in the small artisan spot they have in the wine-tasting room/area. I got some cool gifts for friends, including earrings and a leather bag. I can imagine that on cold winter days, this is the spot to come around, be around the bonfire they have outside, and look at the gorgeous hill country stars and scenery. I cannot wait to come back out when the weather is nicer to spend time outside with one of their cabs.

Yelp
Excellent wines, fantastic service and true Napa- like tastings. Such a sweet little gift shop to buy all the "sussies" you need for the in-laws watching yo kids for the wine tasting trip. The ladies serving truly knew their wines and history of the winery. Grab a glass afterward and sit out under the fans and shade.

Yelp
Beautiful winery 25 minutes from Wimberly! We stopped by during 4th of July and was surprised there wasn't more of a crowd. Strict 21+ policy (many signs warning you to turn back if you aren't 21!) but the servers were so nice and kind. We did a wine tasting which was $20 for 6 samples of white, red, and sweet wine. You can also split the sampling between people, which I shared with a friend. Server (I think her name was Julie) was so sweet and knowledgeable about the wine flavors and gave us recommendations and some history of the flavors. Our favorite was the Starry Night, or the Orange Muscat wine! A bit disappointed they didn't give chocolates or nuts during a wine tasting and overall felt a bit rushed through the process as more people showed up, but it was still a unique experience. The patio has a beautiful view of the orchard, which is why we came here versus other wineries in the area. Outdoor seating is plentiful, many round tables for larger groups too. Definitely would've spent a good half of day out here sipping wine if it wasn't for the rain. The Bistro (food/restaurant area) was closed because of Covid so eat before you arrive so you don't get hangry or wine drunk! ;)

Yelp
it was nice to get to a vineyard that was hospitable and had darn good wine. We continued through our drive in the countryside south of Austin to the next vineyard, which was Driftwood. after pulling in and walking down the trail to the main house we got in line to do a tasting. actually my gal got a tasting, was happy to try a full pour of the Cabernet they have. While we waited I took in the rooms that we were in. It was a homey vibe with lots of small things to buy and others to just look at. The tasting was pretty good, but I took my glass of wine outside to the edge of what seemed the property as it dropped off sharply down a hill. There was some chairs there to sit and look out over the valley and that's just what I did. it is a beautiful spot to appreciate the views of the wine valley here. I could see the vineyards crawling over the hills on the other side. There was a gazebo a ways to my right with a couple people people enjoying there wine there. They had some classic rock songs going on the sound system which added to the relaxed vibe. I would definitely recommend going, and for sure enjoy the view out back.

Yelp
Beautiful property Driftwood estate winery Great tasting room with great views We had the orange muscat dry 2019 Great refreshing wine, not too sweet

Yelp
The most beautiful way to spend a Saturday afternoon! My hubby and I shared a bottle of wine and just sat and talked and enjoyed the serenity and beautiful scenery. This is our new favorite date day escape. Oh and the wine is fabulous
google avatar

Yelp
I recently made a trip out to the Austin area for a vacation and something that was on my list was to fine a nice winery that I could relax at and I was not let down at all when I came here. I will admit I missed the entrance on my first go around as I was not expecting a dirt\gravel road all the way up to the location, but I did not mind it at all. The views from here are amazing since it is elevated on top of a hill which always makes it a very quiet place to getaway to. I ended up doing the tasting with such friendly staff and ultimately selected a bottle that I shared with friends as we enjoyed the late afternoon. This is a place I would definitely return to again!

Yelp
Nothing goes better on a hot day than your favorite glass of white or rose. I would say if your looking for that epic white or rose you won't find it here. What you will find here is an epic view and great outdoor space (dog friendly). Make it a day trip, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Mallorie T.

Yelp
Beautiful view!! Almost the entire place for the bistro is outdoor seating with limited shade from trees, so just keep that in mind with the time of day. Wine was okie, and people were nice. We really enjoyed the live music.
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
A majority of wineries in Texas allow families at their wineries and Driftwood used to be one of them. It is sad how incredibly entitled they are now. It is sad and it makes me never want to visit them again. I used to love this place. If children are respectful then they should be allowed. If they are not, kindly ask the parents to leave or gain control of their child/children. Not all children are misbehaved. Actually, some children act better than adults.
google avatar

Makenzie O.

Yelp
I want to love this place since it's so close to our home but I still can't wrap my brain around the 21 and up rule. We love to travel around wimberley and driftwood and visit the breweries and wineries and this is the only one we've found that doesn't allow kids. We have a kiddo ourselves but we went one day without him and the wine is just ok. Pricey at $40 a bottle and the tastings are $25 a piece which also is steep. One major plus is the beautiful views from the patio (but you sit on very cheap plastic folding chairs and tables) and easy proximity to 12. Other than that - meh wines and not the friendliest service.
google avatar

Nikki V.

Yelp
Wine is good, staff is super helpful-even recommended other wineries to visit. Great view!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Gorgeous property...Hill Country vistas at their finest. Lovely people running the place, too. The wine was fine but definitely not the sole reason to visit, so make sure you have a couple places you're bopping around to in the area. Cute little tasting glasses and there's a shop for kitschy items featuring a lot of wine puns. I do think the crowd skews a bit older, so better suited for entertaining folks than a bach party!

Jonathan A.

Yelp
They sent away a wedding send off party of 100 people over 3 kids in the group, which I guess is their prerogative, but an interesting business decision to say the least. Pretty location, but never got a chance to try to wine.
google avatar

Keith W.

Yelp
We were recommended this place by a friend so we decided to check it out. It is in a very remote area which makes it nice. They are on a hill so that the outdoor seating has a great view. We got 2 tastings and for the most part I enjoyed all of their wines. The Alamo Red was great and so was the Longhorn Red. My wife enjoyed the Chardonnay as well. The servers were very helpful and help guide us to their more popular wines. We ended up buying a couple of bottles and really enjoyed the experience and the view. We plan on coming here again soon!
google avatar

Frances P.

Yelp
Visiting family and wanted to try out some wineries. Super excited about trying this place but they turned us away as they did not allow any kids in the weekends. Welp....see ya!!
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
So disappointed! Used to be family friendly and now with our own small child we were looking forward to going with friends. Walked up and saw the signs and were crushed. We sat at the top of the walkway ( literally in the parking lot ) waiting on our friends to go get their wine before going somewhere else. An employee literally came up and said I heard there was a kid here... we explained we're waiting on our friends and leaving and she proceeded to make it sound like they were never child friendly. We weren't looking to argue and simply went to Driftwood Brewery and had an amazing afternoon :) So sad but there are other places.
google avatar

Tayo F.

Yelp
The view. You gotta see the view. Especially as the sun is going down. My picture doesn't so it justice but it it was amazing. There is of course the other great things like the food, the outdoor lights they put on when the sun goes down and the wine is pretty good too but none of that compares to the view. You'll know it when you see it.
google avatar

Sunny S.

Yelp
Great venue in a gorgeous setting! Join the wine club, and watch the bands! There are food trucks that are good! The service is great, friendly and fun staff!!

Pablo Q.

Yelp
Randomly chose this winery and booked a tasting and was really impressed. The view of the valley and vineyard from the patio area were really nice. Not a wine connoisseur but they had good reds.
google avatar

Anielka E.

Yelp
Driftwood winery was our first stop of wine tasting of the day. The view was what sold me. Perfect for pictures!! They have an outdoor sitting area where you can admire the views and the bottle that you order is brought to you by a server who wears a face shield and gloves. My group ordered a bottle of the 2017 Newsom Cabernet Sauvignon and we were pleased with our choice. It was not dry like a Merlot but just right. This winery does not allow you to bring outside food only the food offered in their bistro outdoor facility. This was not an issue for us. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Great wine! Amazing views off the back patio. What a wonderful way to end the day wine tasting!
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
The wife and I tasted a flight of 6 wines: including the Rose, Cab, Red Blend, Merlot, Sangovese, and Syrah. They were all simply awful swill. Everyone of the varietals lacked depth, character and complexity. Everyone of the reds tasted blah, and I mean blah. They all lacked the distinctive aroma and notes that each of the grapes are known for. The Rose lacked any minerality that one would expect, and was as bad as the others. The tasting room experience was as bad as the wines. The server had zero personality or character either. We came away with the same thoughts as we have from other Hill Country Wineries. They should not, nor should they be attempting to produce well known wines, and in fact do a terrible version of Cabs, Merlots, and Chards. They should stick to Italian varietals, as well as a few others that might be better suited to the Texas climate, even though most people have no idea about those varietals. I suppose its just marketing to attract people in to the tasting room, and once they get toasted enough it no longer matters, since once the minds fogs, its just pour me another.

Kim C.

Yelp
We love this winery, but they now do not allow anyone under the age of 21 on their property. Unfortunately, we went by the Google info which said they did allow children and so after driving 30 minutes we were turned away. I wish they could fix that since it's the first thing a lot of people see when looking for directions on their Apple phone.
google avatar

Dana L.

Yelp
The Napa or Texas! It's totally different I know, I know however it's a sweet little place in Hill Country. Bring a few friends and drink a bottle outside under the tree shade. They have a nice bistro menu to pair with your wine. Prices are really reasonable $25-50 a bottle. Nice selection of whites, reds, sweets. Enjoy.
google avatar

Dana A.

Yelp
Wow just came and they don't allow kids anymore. We used to be members here and would travel into town for the wine parties. Shocked and upset they've gone to this.
google avatar

James E.

Yelp
Went to the winery, which BTW is next to a rehab facility, and was surrounded by loud bachelorette party. Had the cabernet and I am not sure if it was wine or cough syrup. Probably the most sugar I have ever tasted in a glass of red wine. Horrible and they wanted 33 bucks a bottle.
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
This was an amazing experience! What a classy winery!! I love that it isn't meant to be visited by children--hello! It's a winery!! The wine tasting was fun for my husband and me!! I really enjoyed the Sangiovese and Starry Night! My husband liked the red armadillo! Great Texas winery with BEAUTIFUL views! Grab a glass of vino and sit on the hill with a friend!! It's worth a visit!
google avatar

Roel Kristy V.

Yelp
Beautiful view 4 a Hill Country afternoon. high on a hill with a view of the Vineyards planted below. Purchased some salami and cheese and olives in smaller packages to enjoy with our wine. Little hard to get to up the hill and when you arrive not such a stunning outside, but don't let this deter you from the friendliness and the views.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite wineries in the Hill Country. The views are spectacular. It can get a little crowded but that's only because it is so beautiful. I love to do a tasting and then buy a glass and just sit outside and relax. When it is not busy the tastings are better, otherwise you feel a bit rushed when it's getting crowded. They could benefit from a larger tasting room. I do like that you get a glass to take home. My favorite bottle to take home is the Starry Night. It is a sweet sparkingling white, but it is so good. Another favorite is their Orange Muscat. Driftwood is a must see, must drink. There is nothing pretentious about this place. The staff is friendly, the wine is good. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
No infant, children or teens? Seems like a great way to lose business... for sure won't be back here.
