The location of this cottage is stunning! You're on the same bay as the Keltic lodge and you have access to a beautiful beach. The cottage is rustic with basic amenities but it has a lot of charm. We loved the front porch surrounded by windows. It's a great place in the morning while sipping a hot drink. We stayed during Thanksgiving weekend and it was a bit cold despite the space heaters but we made it work. It's very well furnished. We had everything we needed. The service was excellent as well. Lovely hosts.

Don't miss this place when staying in Cape Breton! Highly recommended! The owner responds very quickly and is always prompt. We booked Apt 2, which is spacious with a kitchen and refrigerator for cooking, plus a large dining table and sofa with coffee table. The master bedroom adjoins the dining area with a queen-size bed. Another small room has a single bed, and a third compact room accommodates two small single beds—though we didn't use them since there were only three of us. This unit can comfortably sleep five! The balcony offers stunning views—sipping coffee out there was pure bliss. If I return to Cape Breton, I'll definitely stay here again! Thank you, Kersti!

These reviews are old. Place has fallen on hard times! Decrepit describes it best. Saggy floors, peeling or no paint, rotten beam ends, wobbly stairs, torn curtains, noisy thin walls the list could go on. Our room was clean, the view is nice so there’s that. Neighbors said owner was very nice, could be we never saw him. When we got here the” office” wasn’t marked, we called and he said he’d be right out, we never saw him! Our room was open so decided to stay. Don’t regret it exactly but the reviews are old and don’t represent current conditions and the website is misleading.

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night last summer but we wish we had stayed here the whole trip! This was the highlight of our Cabot Trail adventure, the views are unbeatable, the rooms are gorgeous, recently updated bathroom, little kitchen area, had everything we could have ever needed! The owner was away but her partner, Jamie, got us settled in. He was so very kind and had many interesting stories about the surrounding towns history and even played his guitar in the evening which was a lovely addition to the ocean sounds. When booking it was a simple phone call, we originally booked their smallest room but upon arrival when Jamie saw how tall my partner was (over 6 feet) he upgraded us to a bigger room with nice tall ceilings completely free of charge. We went for a beach walk then spent our evening sitting on the front porch outside our room. Since our trip we have suggested the Driftwood lodge to everyone we know heading out to Cape Breton, it's a little slice of heaven!

If on a budget, passing through the area after a last-minute accommodation, or just wanting a not-so-luxurious but still perfectly fine room with access to the ocean... this lodge is a must on your Cape Breton trip! The prices of rooms here are really the best prices I've seen for non-hostel rooms in a while, and definitely the best prices I've seen for rooms somewhere with an ocean view. I had the best sleep I'd had in a long time on my bed. It's just a short walk down a few stairs to the beach, and the water was soooo warm the other night! Amazing spot for swimming, even at night! and fires on the beach are possible:) I gave 4 stars for service because it was a tiny bit difficult to see where the office door was in the dark, and we had to call someone (Kersty) to inquire about a room, and she didn't answer the first time. It was mentioned that there's no lights outside to reduce light pollution for viewing the stars, but maybe reflective letters can be used on the sign for the office to make it a bit more clear, or another sign can be added with the number to call in front of the actual Lodge building. Otherwise other calls were answered immediately, payment was flexible and easy, management was extremely flexible with any questions and changes - even finishing cleaning a room that we wanted especially for my friend and I. The management is super friendly and conversational. Thank you 😊

The Driftwood Lodge is a family-run, cozy cottage/motel with a rustic, knotty-pine vibe. Our room, apartment #5, was comfortable and clean, with a kitchenette including all utensils, pots & pans, small fridge, microwave, French press & brewpot (bring your own coffee), toaster oven and two burner range. There is a deck from which you have a magnificent view of the ocean. It is a great value for what you get. And the wifi was plenty strong in our room for us to stream a TV show. No, it is not the Ritz, but on the other hand, you are paying 3% of the cost of the Ritz!

This place was good. It was clean, which is more important than anything else. The woman who checked us in was nice. The view after the short walk to the beach was outstanding. The location was perfect for us. The room was small but had everything we needed. As for negatives, the bed and pillows were super uncomfortable and there was a funny smell. But for the price, I would definitely spend a night here again.

We found this lodge by chance late at night when needing to find alternative accommodation at the last minute. How lucky we were. Kirsty was unfailingly helpful and kind. Given the view and location, just steps from the beach and right on the Cabot Trail, the room price is unbeatable. The rooms are basic/retro but clean and tidy. Do get a lobster roll at Brookside Takeout across the road, and a coffee at The Periwinkle café nearby.
