This is a capsule hotel. I don't think they call themselves that since they call their "rooms" dormitory beds but they're just like capsules in capsule hotels. They are roomier though. And I like the simple and compact design of each dormitory bed. The cafe downstairs is relaxing and cute.
I am not please with the layout of the hotel. While the booking says there is a mixed dormitory option, we are placed on the floor for men. So as a woman, I feel uncomfortable that there are all these men sleeping in beds next door even though my boyfriend is next to me on one side. Also, the bathroom and shower outside this dormitory is for men only. I don't care and use it anyway otherwise women's facilities are up another two flights. They should have mixed gender facilities if this was truly the mixed dormitory floor.
Cleanliness: 5
Despite its inefficient layout, I do have to say that at the minimum it's very clean.

It's great that the women at the reception spoke a good level of English which made communication easier however one woman I spoke to spoke so softly that I had trouble hearing her. Also, I would say their list of recommendations are a hit or miss. Do not going to Hinomaru Onsen. It's awful. Please check my separate review for that.
I think the listing on booking.com was misleading. It has an option to book for 2 people but if you look carefully, it's actually 2 separate rooms. We assumed that when it says "fits 2" that we are booking one space that fits 2 people, and not 2 separate places. That is confusing.
For a capsule hotel, I think this is great. If you're looking for a cute inn with a normal room to share with your partner, this is not what you're looking for!!
