Drostdy Hotel Graaff Reinet

We stayed at the Drostdy on our way back Cape Town on the last night of 2024. Out of all our stays on our roadtrip, this was the most expensive and we were very much looking forward to stay here. This turned into a bit of a disappointment. The parking area was great and the staff very friendly and always helpful. We went for a swim at the pool, the state of the pool was very dirty with sand all over the bottom. Also, very few chairs for all the guests on the lawn. Before going to bed, we had dinner on the patio - the food was unfortunately a big disappointment. We chose the "stars" on the menu and felt it was dry and underwhelming. After that, we went to our rooms, where every window was closed and shut. Unless you put the air-con on, there is no fresh air in the room. A ceiling fans and open windows can solve this problem. The decor is beautiful, but the rooms very dark and stuffy. We hardly slept that night, not due to any noise, but the state of the mattress and pillows were appalling. They need to throw this out and revamp, they were old and finished. We arrived (very tired) at breakfast at 6.30, there can also be a bit of an improvement on the choices. It is however great to hear that some of the money goes to new staff training and the community around and we believe the hotel has great potential, I really hope they will improve on some issues as we would like to see them succeed.

The service at the hotel overall is excellent. Staff greet you and are attentive to your needs. The restaurant is excellent both in terms of service and food. The hotel has a lovely ambiance and peaceful feel to it. Minor hiccup with a fridge in the room not working but otherwise an excellent stay.

The Drostdy Hotel offers a beautiful and historic setting with charming architecture and comfortable rooms. However, the dining experience was disappointing. The lamb chops were overly fatty, and the overall quality of the food was below average, which didn’t meet the standards one would expect from such an esteemed establishment. While the ambiance and service were good, the food quality needs improvement to match the rest of the hotel’s appeal.

We had lunch as a family and were very impressed with the immaculate facilities, excellent service, and tasty food. The price is very reasonable, and I recommend going for a meal here rather than the other restaurants in Graaff Reinet. It's a beautiful setting and you can see the staff are very well trained.

The once-lush gardens were unkempt, with dry plants and overgrown lawns detracting from the serene ambiance. This lack of attention to detail set a disappointing tone for my stay.||||Inside the hotel, service levels were mediocre at best. While the staff were friendly and polite, they seemed overwhelmed and ill-prepared to handle guest needs efficiently. Delays were common, and there was a noticeable lack of organization throughout. Conversations with staff revealed that new management had recently taken over, which may explain the inconsistency, but it doesn’t excuse the decline in standards for an establishment of this caliber.||||It’s disheartening to see the Drostdy Hotel in such a state, especially when it has always been synonymous with refinement and exceptional service. There is something amiss, and the magic that once made it a standout destination has dimmed.||||To potential guests: if you are looking for the Drostdy Hotel of the past, you may leave disappointed. I hope that the new management takes swift action to restore the property to its former glory, as it still has the potential to shine.||||Rating: ⭐⭐ / 5||Would I return? Not until visible improvements are made.

Great hotel and the perfect place for a stopover to the coast. The rooms are luxurious and the pools inviting, and the amenities on site are everything you could wish for. We really felt spoilt and rejuvenated for the remainder of the trip.

Surprisingly good. Beautiful, silent, comfy , clean and peacefull rooms. Pool Spa Beautysaloon Wine tasting Bar Finediningish restaurant Art gallery and wineshop ( best prices I have ever seen !!!) What do you need more ?!?!

5 star luxury with old world charm. Met all our expectations. Room was spacious, charming, well appointed and the bathroom was a treat. Camdeboo restaurant is simply stunning.
