Tastings with a side of garden delight!
Our friends brought us here, because they are members. They told us they loved it, but it wasn't until we actually experienced it ourselves, did we understand why.
To be completely honest, we didn't even go inside and check out the indoor tasting area -- even though our friends told us twice to go and do it. We were so serenely content with the outdoor tasting and customer service, that we never even took the time.
A huge PRO TIP to this spot, is to grab food at the store at the four way stop before you get to DCV. The food is way overpriced, BUT it is really, really good!
Back to our arrival, the parking is a little limited, but you just have to keep looking for more spots. Also, they offer charging stations for all you fancy folks out there! Once we grabbed our late lunch and snacks, we walked through the walk way toward a garden area. A huge lush green grass area with at least ten or so different picnic tables with umbrellas for shade. You cannot forget the corn hole game in the corner too.
Nestled in the farthest corner, closest to to the actual tasting room, was an outdoor bar set-up for tastings with about six or so patio bar stools (with backs, which is key). Robert was already back there helping two guests, when we sauntered up. Robert is insanely knowledgeable about EVERYTHING about this vineyard, the wines, and the history of the family. He was a real pleasure to speak with and learn from. He was engaging and made the tasting enjoyable with history, humor, and his throwback sports convo.
They are celebrating their 45th anniversary this year and the tasting menu had one specific varietal that was made specifically for this years celebration. They also hung up the original signage from the vineyard in the garden area. We all really enjoyed it and thought it was a perfect fit, Robert wasn't sold on leaving it there forever ;)
The different tastings were all tasty, whites to reds. Luckily for us, since our friends were members our tastings were comp'd. However, they are reasonably priced tastings for the area. All the good wines of the area, but missing the Napa tasting fees. At the outside bar they also serve bottles by the glass, about one option for each type of varietal they serve, all within a great price range. Don't think they won't go inside and get you something too, which they will -- they are super friendly and helpful!
After we tasted and grabbed some wine for our lunch we spent the next hour or so just enjoying the surroundings. We noticed the staff closing up, but they never once asked us to leave or were rude at all. I really appreciated it, but we got the hint and packed up our stuff.
Everything about DCV is exactly what a laid back wine taster is looking for - non pretentious, good wines, and great service, all at a decent price.
DCV keep doing what you do, cause it's working!
