A Hidden Gem on the Hillside – A Must-Visit Nursery Near Lostwithiel We recently revisited this lovely nursery nestled in the hillside overlooking the picturesque town of Lostwithiel, and were absolutely delighted by the transformation since our last visit. The changes are not only noticeable—they’re impressive, and all for the better. The main hall still houses a welcoming, pet-friendly restaurant, perfect for a relaxed bite with your furry companion. In addition, a new booking-only restaurant has been introduced, offering a pet-free environment for those seeking a quieter, more refined dining experience. Both options work beautifully and cater to different visitor needs. The shop itself has been thoughtfully extended, with spacious display areas that invite you to wander and explore. The layout is airy and accessible, showcasing a stunning selection of plants, garden accessories, and seasonal décor. The quality and presentation of the stock are exceptional—clearly curated with care and creativity. Outside, the nursery has expanded even further. A vast outdoor display area now complements the indoor space, offering an inspiring range of plants and garden features. There’s also a charming seasonal café outdoors, ideal for enjoying a coffee while soaking in the views and fresh air. What truly stands out is the sheer beauty of the plants on display. The variety is remarkable, and everything is arranged with such attention to detail that it’s a joy to browse. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just looking for something special to brighten your home, you’ll find plenty to admire and take home. Overall, this nursery has evolved into a destination in its own right. It’s a perfect blend of horticultural excellence, thoughtful hospitality, and scenic charm. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike!

Great place for a coffee or food. Lovely atmosphere. Lots of outside seating. Friendly staff. Gorgeous plants, reasonably priced. Super shop with up market products from cards to candles and glassware to soft toys. Would recommend.

Lovely cake and scones/afternoon tea. Scones were fresh and soft, exactly how they should be. The walk to Restormel castle was also very good!

Fantastic gift shop with products at every price point. Beautiful cafe - cake was amazing. Nursery - fantastic quality of plants and not as expensive as anticipated

When they say cafe closes at 4pm, they actually mean 3pm. Having arrived at 3 previously and only having coffees and cakes on offer, we decided to come down earlier today. We arrived at 2:10, and we're told we would have a 45minute wait for lunch. Knowing that the kitchen closes at 3pm, we questioned this but were reassured that we would be able to have lunch (just no roast dinners). 45 minutes later, our buzzer went off and we arrrived at the cafe ready for food, only to be told that the kitchen was shut. Completely different to what we were previously told. Not sure why they tried to lie to us? Doesn't make sense. Essentially - do not come here if you haven't booked in advance. Can't give a review of the food as we have never managed to try it. Two of the three plants we bought from the nursery on another occasion also died pretty quickly after purchasing. All in all, a total let down really. That will be our last visit.

Afternoon tea for 2, were given a voucher for a wedding for afternoon tea, on arrival to pick up our voucher we were advised bookings needed to be 48hrs in advance, anyone buying this as a gift make it clear to pre-book, I must say even on hearing that we didn't expect the final outcome the manager was very accommodating after we explained our situation and it was agreed that we could return the following day, but it didn't stop there while sitting at a table enjoying a glass of prosecco the manager returned and said she had spoken to the chef who had said if we were willing to wait 20 minutes we could have our afternoon tea and wow what a tea it was, the food was out of this world, the manager is a credit to the business and always smiling, the waitress was great too even if she did try to nick my half eaten dessert 😉, but seriously this was an incredible gift and I would highly recommend the experience, just a recommendation to anyone going here be wary of the route from Bodmin, if I go here again I will go via Lostwithiel the route although narrow has many more pass points and the hedges are not brushing both sides of the car at the same time!!

Searched for eggs Benedict local to where I was staying, not a item that appears to be on many menus! This was more expensive than I wanted but decided to treat myself. It was absolutely beautiful, very good quality, thick ham and catered to my requirements of sauce on side. Clearly popular as nearly full for breakfast. Dogs welcome and plenty of parking

Beware of the bags of potatoes from the Deli. Bought one a few days ago and when I opened them at home they were only good for the compost heap. Staff were v pleasant and refunded me over the phone with no issues.

Yelp
During a lovely Easter weekend at home, my boyfriend and friend requested a tourist day which should include a cream tea after our walk on the cliffs. The duchy nursery has recently done up their shop and cafe which look over the nursery and the valley below. The cafe offers a selection of sandwiches, hot meals and cakes. The cream tea was delicious with plenty of jam and clotted cream ratio to the scone and lots of tea. The cafe also provides excel by coffee and cake. The duchy is definitely my current favourite place for a cream tea when returning home and is in a lovely location. A final quick tip for any visitors, the duchy is up a cornish lane, once you've gone past the golf club, keep going and you'll find it.
