Our second visit in the last few months and both a disappointment. The setting up of the cafe has changed and staff seem to have changed their approach. Whilst the setting is beautiful and the nursery fantastic and inspiring; we have had two visits where we have wanted to have coffee and cake, on both occasions we have had a frosty reception. The most recent visit, on a beautiful sunny January morning we were refused to sit outside ‘for our own safety’. This is strange and unfounded considering you can walk around the nursery right next to the outdoor seating with no problem. When we went back after purchasing plants for a takeaway coffee we were made to feel quite uncomfortable by the staff as if we were creating a problem. Very strange. Perhaps the more formal approach to their seating has ruined their approach to customers and has resulted in a stiff and cold reception.
In the past, the cafe area was an informal, relaxed space with a fire, where you could choose your own seating. Now you have to wait to be seated. Whilst I appreciate this is appropriate in the more formal Orangery dining setting, it’s a shame that this is now the approach in the cafe.
We have always loved visiting in the past, great shop, plants and children’s area in the spring/summer (seems to be closed in winter). Hopefully everything will improve again!
