We are in Hawaii for our family vacation and wanted to experience Chinatown. Our Google directions left so much to be desired, so we found a random street in Chinatown and held out hope that we could find parking for our two vehicles, holding our large family of 8. We found a little lot and paid the $3, and set out to find someplace for dinner. Directly across the street was a charming storefront with a whimsical neon artwork in the window of roses and their leaves. Duc's Bistro. Just the exterior was enough to draw me in, and my stepson chimed in that it was a highly rated restaurant on TripAdvisor. We went in. We were accomodated quickly and with a very genuine, warm welcome. The interior is gorgeously upscale, but you still feel like you can make yourself at home. We started out with wine and cocktails, ordered appetizers of escargo and spring rolls, both of which were over the top amazing. We sopped up the liquid left over in the escargo dish with crusty yet soft bread. We ordered 4 entrees, pork belly, duck made with Grand Marnier, Saigon steak, and fish of the day, which was Mahi Mahi. The accompanyments were rice and green beans. Every entree was so incredibly delectable that every one of us couldn't stop remarking about it. We finished the meal off with crème brulee, which, of course, did not disappoint. Ok, the food: top notch. GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. Now, onto the ambiance: gorgeous, SUCH a perfect choice of music, there's an amazing dragon suspended from the ceiling. Now for the staff. I would absolutely return to Hawaii solely to be able to spend time with this family, who are the staff. So attentive, pretty much can anticipate what you're about to want, charming, warm, entertaining. I could go on but I don't know how many words I can put into one review. Just GO HERE! Duc's Bistro. GO NOW

Duc’s Bistro is very awesome! Their coffee food was delicious! The staff were very kind! Without doubt I recommend them! Have a great day!❤️😃

Google
5 stars. Great food, cozy and romantic ambiance inside. Friendly and personable service. Wide selection of traditional French and Asian dishes with an elevated touch. What's not to like? There were 4 of us and we tried a lot of things: foie gras, escargot, spring rolls, duck breast, pan fried fish, lamb chops, chicken curry, saffron rice, and tapioca banana pudding, crème brûlée and affogato for dessert! Honestly, I enjoyed everything and I can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu lol. The star dishes for me were the pan fried fish and the chicken curry with saffron rice actually! I mean the traditional French fare was solid too, but you know there isn't much surprise to it. The pan fried fish however was a shocker in that it's done so well with the texture and the taste. I was hesitant about getting the chicken curry, but the sweet lady (who's also a cook) recommended the chicken curry so I was like, OK let's give it a shot. Hmmmm that might be one of my favorite curries that I tried. The chicken was tender, and the curry had depth without being sweet or salty; it's hard to describe. The portions were not big. They're all "exquisite" but I thought the prices were not ridiculous. They're higher than average, but the quality was delivered, so it's worth it imo. Parking lot is across the street with discount code provided by the restaurant, make sure you don't pay yet until you get the code from them, or free street parking after 6pm. I can't wait to go back. Thank you for the delicious food and friendly service!

Google
This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Hawai’i; family-owned for 34 years, Duc and his family are proud business owners who have perfected an amazing dining experience. Every dish is amazing and so well-crafted and the service is impeccable!! Love, love love this place and bringing friends and visitors here.

Google
Fine dining restaurant in Downtown/Chinatown. It's good that they keep their sources and ingredients local. Can't believe that they've been here for 32 years. We ordered foie gras, duck marinier, braised pork belly, and ginger fantastic. They gave a bowl of saffron rice as complimentary with the order. We love them.

Google
This is an unsophisticated (appearance wise) little restaurant in the middle of Chinatown. We ordered the escargots, fire roasted eggplant, pork belly, and fillet Of Basa Nonpareil and were very pleased with each one. Every staff was professional, attentive, and friendly, and drinks and dishes were served at the perfect pace. I’d really love to go back there if we could stay longer in Honolulu.

Google
Relaxing environment, good service. Beef tartar was very good, they did not put too much egg in it which was great! You can really taste the beef! The bread 🍞 was crunch outside soft inside, it was a good match with the beef tartar! The spring roll was also very good! Interesting way to eat the spring roll with fresh greens! Saffron rice was tasty! Vietnamese coffee was just ok, not as good as we expected. Overall, the price was good in Waikiki.

Google
We accidentally found Duc's Bistro while in China Town, and we are glad we did. Accidentally, because they do not advertise and glad because it couldn't have been better. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the staff and service were the best. They made us feel right at home. If you have the opportunity do not miss visiting Duc's.

Yelp
A small and ever present restaurant that has a modest and nondescript exterior, Duc's Bistro is everything other than average. The service is personal - As a family run business, pride is apparent, but more - there is sheer enjoyment of their restaurant and service that is unlike anything you will experience on the island. They interact with all customers as if they have been friends for a long time. The food - An experience in its own - while I loved everything, and we ordered quite a bit, my personal fav is the Beef Tatare. I could eat that all day with a bottle of wine. We enjoyed our experience for my bday dinner so much, that we returned three weeks later (the family had gone on a trip, so they were closed during that time), and relived our favorite dishes. Mahalo for everything and see you again soon.

Yelp
the owners was very welcoming and sweet. the foie gras was cooked perfect, i like when its is cooked all the way through!!! for $6 more we had extra bread to accompany it. the papaya salad was light and refreshing.

Yelp
Surprisingly, I have never heard of Duc's bistro despite them being around for 30 years. They're located conveniently in Chinatown, and there's paid parking right across the street. They serve French and Vietnamese cuisine. I was invited to a group dinner, so I was excited to try out this restaurant! Since I was a guest, the menu was chosen for us, so there were a few items that I typically would not order. Everything here is served family style. We started out with French bread, which was homemade and really good! For appetizers, we had the Vietnamese crispy spring rolls, which were really good. I enjoyed these. The chicken salad (Goi ga) was really tasty and had a good ginger dressing. Honestly, these two things were probably the best of the bunch. We also had the escargot which comes with button mushrooms in herb butter, and the beef tartar, both of which were OK, but nothing exciting. I don't particularly care for foie gras, and I don't like lamb so I didn't try the lamb chops. The pork belly was good, Rich tasting and tender. We also had the local fish nonpareil (Mahi-mahi) which was supposed to be in a lemon caper dill sauce, but instead was bland and on the mushy side. Dessert was the classic crème brûlée, which was OK. Service was good. Food was OK, nothing really outstanding.

Yelp
Wow - where do we start...the food was amazing. Great recommendations! And the staff was incredible. It was so nice to get away from the chaotic environment near the beach and, instead, enjoy a spectacular dinner with a relaxed atmosphere. I found out about Duc's from a friend. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known about it because they really don't advertise. And, even though it's not on any internet searches, they have an incredible wine cellar where the prices are actually reasonable. Duc's is an absolute must!!!

Harvey L.

Yelp
Disappointed, but it's Hawaii. Nice Ambiance and ok service. Food not up to expectations.

Patricia S.

Yelp
Haven't been to this well established restaurant in a very long time so I was thrilled to be invited to a birthday celebration. The interior has obviously been renovated because it was nice and light and tastefully decorated. The staff (including the owners) served the various dishes, bused the tables, ran the bar (keeping individual's credit cards so they could easily cash us out individually), while doing the same for the other party at the back of the restaurant!! We all made sure to let the owners know how much we enjoyed each dish and how much we appreciated how much they enjoyed interacting with us. We had a sampling from each food group, including desert (choice of crème brûlée or strawberry sorbet). I will be back for sure.

Yelp
FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 3 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 3 We wanted to try a restaurant outside of Waikiki. After browsing through Yelp, we came upon Duc's Bistro, a Vietnamese French bistro. They are located in Chinatown and they are by reservation only. We called around 4PM to get a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. A server greeted us with water and menus. Since we had researched on Yelp, we knew what we wanted to order. Here is what we had: Foie Gras - seared Foie Gras on a toast, with slices of Papaya and a fruit jelly. Perfectly seared and tasty. Beware that the jelly has a slight kick. I could not taste the splash of Cognac. Green Papaya salad - slivers of green papaya and shrimp marinated in herbs and piquant dressing. Fresh, crunchy and very tasty. Spring rolls - traditional fried Vietnamese rolls made with ground pork and shiitake mushrooms. Spot on taste and crispiness. Served with lettuce, rice noodles and jicama. Lobster bisque - tomato lobster bisque was spot on in terms of flavor and it had good amount of lobster meat. Breast of Duck Grand Manier - this was one huge disappointment. The duck was overcooked and had no taste. The Grand Manier sauce could not save this dish. Service throughout the night was very slow. Maybe because there were a few big holiday parties. The meal was very expensive, $200+ with one drink, desserts, tax and tips. From this visit, I can only really justify 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Totally FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE! The very best French-Vietnamese restaurant you will every find anywhere on earth! Truly! We went there recently for our important Wedding Rehearsal Dinner and were treated to the owner and his team giving us the very best service and food and atmosphere for our party of twelve, including a child...ask for the lobster, even if it's not on the menu, and you will find a totally delicious whole lobster prepared just the way you want it! Reasonable pricing, delicious food, and fantastic atmosphere in downtown Honolulu, Chinatown...try it! You'll love it!!!!!

Yelp
We celebrated Mother's Day! Dinner was fabulous. The menu has a selection of Vietnamese and French cuisine. We ordered escargot and crab cakes as starters and it was delicious. For entrees we ordered the pan fried fish, braised pork belly, and the local fish nonpareil which was mahi mahi. We all had the chance to sample each other's entrees. Each dish was very tasty. Also for dessert we had crème brûlée. Very nice. The service was excellent. This is a family owned restaurant and the family members are so personable and very friendly. The ambiance is nice. This is a small restaurant on Maunakea Street. We parked in a nearby public parking structure however they do have parking across the street from their restaurant and they will validate the parking. They are open for dinner from 4pm to 9pm. We are definitely looking to return.

Yelp
A great hidden gem with fantastic food and desserts! Perfect dinner before a show at the Hawai'i Theatre!

Yelp
Dining at Ducs was the best experience ever. Quaint and elegant ambiance. Charming owner, he and his lovely wife and sons were perfectly professional as well as warmly hospitable in every way. BUT the Delectable FOOD was something I will gush over for years to come. Duc and his sons kept bringing out the most exquisite and savory dishes - from the Shrimp and Escargot, to the Saffron Rice, perfectly cooked green beans and all kinds of delicious meats. My favorite dessert in the world is Creme Brûlée, and Duc served the most wonderfully caramelized to perfection. Thank you Duc. I hope to see you soon.

Pammy F.

Yelp
Ducs bistro still there after all the ups & downs in the world. Food is still awesome, the owner duc still working hard with wife. We will be back!!

Mako H.

Yelp
Duc's is open from 4:00pm, which is perfect for all the downtown happy hour frolickers. The time was however perfect for my elderly parents. We scored prime parking in front of the restaurant and maneuvering my parents were quite a breeze. The owner immediately greeted us us with a buttery smile and took my parents' drink order. We applauded the escargot, baguettes, and steak Saigon. We wished the lamb a little warmer. The spring rolls were the star of the show.

Lexi J.

Yelp
So amazing ! A cute little gem so glad we came in during our trip. local family and owned they took the time to meet us and walk us out the door after we ate. Genuine sweet people

Shun Z.

Yelp
Closed , wrong time on window, no one answer phone ever. No chance of even making reservations .

Michelle A.

Yelp
Went to a work event here. Food was super good. It's a small romantic restaurant. I want to go back for a date night. Owner was this super sweet man. I'd love to support him again. Lamb chops were my favorite!

Rob B.

Yelp
Still amazing, call a head for gratis parking. Let Duc pick your dinner, you won't be disappointed. The pork belly is velvet in a bowl. We always love the eggplant, it's a must. Don't forget the creme brûlée!

Nicole F.

Yelp
We celebrated our dear friend's birthday tonight. Food was very delicious. Lots of flavor without anything being too overwhelming. We had a pre fix dinner and we were able to try everything! We even had lobster!! It was sooo yummy. The sauce with it, added a nice touch to the tender lobster!! Even the bread that came with the escargot was so soft with a nice crunchy crust. The service was also great!! The owner, his son Ian, the other servers were so nice and on top of everything!! Being in Chinatown, I would have never thought to come here, but after this great evening I would venture into downtown again. It's worth it! There's free 3 hours of parking in the lot across the street after 5 with their code.

Roya J.

Yelp
Very quaint family owned business serving exceptional family style dining experience with personable service. We ordered the Foie gras, escargots a la chablisienne, banana blossom salad for our starters and everything was well prepared. For the main course we ordered the cari chicken, breast of duck marnier and steak aux poivres. For foodies we were very pleased of how well everything was prepared. Every dish was cooked just right where it wasn't over or undercooked with enough seasoning to give flavor without overpowering the main attraction. On to dessert. The chocolate pecan tart was a little hard, but it had good flavor. The tapioca and affogato however stood out. If you like tapioca I'd recommend ordering their rendition For our cocktails we ordered the ginger and lychee martinis and Madame Vu with gin. They weren't bad, but we felt it was the one area that could use improvement. They have a full bar, but a limited offering of cocktails.

Clay L.

Yelp
I just had the Affogato was pure delicious. Just adds to this awesome oozy little nook I love the owners love for all that come through to his restaurant. The man served me lamb with the sauce with a smile on his face. Can't beat this service with a stick. Love it love it love it.

Kahea R.

Yelp
There's a parking lot right across the street which is a HUGE plus in town! It was so beautiful! Family owned so you feel welcome right away. The service was impeccable, the food was phenomenal. Ambiance was romantic and elegant, and ALSO homey and comfortable because the owner (and family) just took such great care of us. Check it out. You'll be glad you did! *chef's kiss*

Myning C.

Yelp
Service is great! Ambiance is great! Spring rolls were unique and tasty but other entrees were just ok - I was looking at reviews too and the food appeared to be exceptional but I only found the spring rolls to be exceptional - I will just keep my review at that-

Scott M.

Yelp
Duc's never disappoints. We love to go there for special occasions which it's perfect for as well as casual dinners. Last night we had lobster bisque, crab cakes and fois gras to start and all were perfection. We had Chilean sea bass prepared Chinese style and giant prawns and we were absolutely stuffed. The atmosphere as well as the service as always was top notch! Duc himself even stopped by the table as he always does to inquire if everything was to our satisfaction. This little secret spot in downtown should be on everyone's go to list!

Rob B.

Yelp
Aloha, Duc's Bistro has been around since 1992! Duc set the pace for fine dining In Chinatown and truly is still a wonderful find. If you love Vietnamese and French food, you'll love this restaurant as it's classic on both. As well as their wonderful cocktail bar. Duc or nowadays Ian greet you like a old friend. So fun to walk in and feel like you're home. Very neat clean white table cloth classic restaurant. We stopped by prior to a show at the Hawaii Theatre. We really should make a point to just come. Make it a point to revisit Duc's Bistro. You'll be happy you did. Thanks!

Elizabeth I.

Yelp
Food- crab cakes were delicious. The shrimp wasn't fresh and was not seasoned. The green bean beans were a little greasy. Ambiance-cheap decor that didn't flow naturally. Service- Waiters were very friendly and professional. The owner greeted every table, had discussions about their meal, had great elaborate discussions...except my table. Which I was very interested to speak with him considering how tripvisor ranted and raved about how he's such a proud and passionate owner. Seems the owner was only interested in talking with certain individuals/races, which means this is a place where I chose not to support at all.

Gerry L.

Yelp
A co-worker and I resumed our quarterly splurge lunches ... we returned to Duc's Bistro for a quiet and peaceful lunch. Duc's hasn't changed and that's welcome to us. It remains an oasis of quiet in busy Chinatown. I started with a Hendricks gin & tonic and ordered Foie Gras, Escargot and Wagyu Beef Tartare. The foie gras came with slices of papaya and a berry compote. The escargot was served with mini loaves of warm bread and the tartare came with slices of toasted baguette. The tartare needed a touch more seasoning to me; I would have liked whole grain mustard and olive oil and/or a raw egg. The foie gras was perfectly cooked; I do not care for ripe papaya but my co-worker scarfed it up. The escargot was very good. We ordered the duck two ways, Duck Saigon and Duck Grand Marnier. In retrospect, we should have ordered another entrée as it was too one note for me. The duck could have been slightly rarer (is that a word?); the sauces were fine but I had expected more of a difference, based upon the ingredients. The duck was served with a bowl of saffron rice; a nice counterpoint to the slices of duck. I had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with my duck; perhaps a Merlot would have been a better choice. I ended with a cup of coffee ... delicious! Final thoughts ... Duc's Bistro hasn't changed and to me that's good. The food is very good, the prices reasonable (for what you get) and I have no issues with the service. Recommended!

Tasha L.

Yelp
An absolute hidden gem on the outskirts of Chinatown. This place needs to be experienced by anyone who enjoys Vietnamese with a beautiful twist. Their ambiance is that of a fine dining restaurant which will enhance any celebration from the start! The service is great and the food....magnific'. My recommendations for flavor power would be the crab cakes, escargot and beef tartare to start, the Cari or Lemongrass chicken and the Lamb chops! I'm a sucker for lamb chops because not only do you not see it often, it takes only the wisest of spices and best of knowledge to perfect it and they absolutely have. Thank you Duc! Your flavors will prevail. See you soon!

Renee E.

Yelp
Truly my rating is torn between 3 and 4 stars. I appreciated the simplicity vibe of the restaurant. The owner with his granddaughter assisting him with the menus brought a smile to my face, to see his legacy being shared with her is special. The gentleman serving was enthusiastic and brought good energy to the start of our dining experience. Not sure if the lady was just hired, who was a server or if she was just having an "off" day, but it took quite some time for orders to be taken and water refilled. The gentleman working with her was giving her cues to check the tables and such. Food was great. I enjoyed the crab cakes with real crab and limited unnecessary fillers, that was appreciated. Lobster bisque was tasty with the bits of lobster. I had the Local Fish Nonpareil and that was very good. However, the dessert was quite disappointing. The Chocolate Ganache cake lacked the flavor of chocolate, I understand it's flourless, however, it was chocolate-less too. Unsure if the pre-plated cake was left in the freezer too long and not switched out. Evident it was pre-plated with the scoop of ice-cream, with the perspiration of the dew on the plate and the ice-crust formed on the ice cream. Overall, for dining there the 1st time, it was good and would recommend family and friends to check out Duk's Bistro if they haven't yet, but not sure if I'd recommend the Chocolate Ganache Flourless-Cake, or they can chance it themselves.

Xavier T.

Yelp
They don't make places like this anymore. Nor will they in the future. Stepping in here Ducs makes you feel transported to another time. If you like the feel of an old school fine dining restaurant and the service and quality of food that comes with it look no further. A gem of chinatown and one of the oldest restaurants on the island. Duc and his family have kept magic alive for decades at their establishment. Perfect for dates Perfect for sitting alone Doesnt matter the occasion ,you have to experience it for yourself. My go to order is: Foie gras Banana blossom salad Bread Rack of lamb(best on the island) imo Duck saigon Saffron rice Ducs wife makes all the pastries/desserts in house. I hold this place dear to me as i consider them family. This is not a biased opinion though. Go there and have a meal. Youll feel like family too.

Carol F.

Yelp
We love Duc's combination of French and Vietnamese cuisine. The food and service are both top notch, and the ambience is usually pretty quiet and cozy. Duc has a well stocked bar and excellent wine list as well! He's always willing to recommend a wine that suits your taste and budget.

Ta P.

Yelp
Adorable family restaurant with 4 year old waitress supporting her grandparents. Food was yummy, esp spring rolls. Validated parking for lot across the street.

Ken L.

Yelp
Absolute 5-star party last night. Threw surprise 50th birthday dinner at Duc's Bistro and it was an awesome experience! Don't let the exterior of the restaurant fool you..,it's beautiful inside and AIR CONDITIONED! I know, I know..,Chinatown? At night? For dinner? Parking? lol...believe me...you'll be impressed! Parking, btw, FREE street parking after 6p AND if u prefer, there's a paid open lot right across the street...$3.50/hr. Anyway, back to my experience, Ian was very accommodating with us dropping items off items ahead of time and helping create a menu. It's a family owned business, which makes it even more special, and the food is next level ONO! Started with steak tartare (sooo good...even tho I like my steaks well done) and escargots and spring rolls. Dinner entrées were lamb chops, prawns. beef curry, crispy fish (soooo amazing!) and lemongrass chicken. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned! I pre-ordered the food and everything came out at the perfect pace! Ian actually adjust the potions of food to an appropriate level...he adjusted the amount DOWN so there wouldn't be tons of leftover food! How's that? lol. Such a great family! Great good/great value! Will def be back...maybe a regular!!!

Judy G.

Yelp
Beef tartare.....difficult to find but Duc's does it well. Small restaurant in Chinatown area. Parking almost non-existent but the tartare....worth the hassle.

Judy S.

Yelp
From start to finish, a wonderful experience! Ian greeted us and gave us suggestions on ordering since neither of us had been there before. Duc came and sat to take our order and provided thoughts on the two duck entrees as well as a vegetable side. We ended up with the escargots served with a light, crisp bread; the daily special of monchong in a light butter caper sauce, duck breast in a burgundy wine sauce, and a lemony ong choy. Saffron rice was served on the side--it was fragrant and perfect as an accompaniment to the main dishes. We enjoyed creme brulee and affogatto for dessert. Service and ambiance are pleasant and relaxing. The food was delicious. We'll be back!

Kristian G.

Yelp
Duc's Bistro is a lovely hidden gem in Chinatown. Serving up Vietnamese and French fusion cuisine. To start, we ordered the Green Papaya Salad, Crab Cakes, Escargot, and Spring Rolls. All of the starters were delicious! The papaya salad was flavorful and refreshing. The crab cakes were good and the sauce was delicious. The escargot with the button mushrooms is a must get (don't forget to dip the bread in the delectable garlic butter sauce)! The spring rolls were perfectly crisp and came with all the fixings for lettuce rolls. For our main dishes, we ordered Breast of Duck Saigon, New Zealand Lamb Chops, Uku sautéed in a lemony caper-dill beurre blanc sauce, and my absolute favorite the Pan Fried Fish with Green Mango (Ca Chien Xoai). Everything was cooked to perfection! To finish off the meal, we ordered Crème Brûlée and Tapioca. Both were a perfect ending to the meal as they weren't too sweet but just enough to feel satisfied. Though the food is amazing, the service is even better! Duc and his family are friendly and take pride in the food they serve. I can't wait for my next visit to Duc's Bistro!

Mo A.

Yelp
This is not for you Cheesecake Factory loving basics. This restaurant is in the heart of China town in Honolulu and the food is amazing. Duc's can be best described as a "Hidden Gem". It's deceptive at first glance but walk inside and you'll see an amazing and quaint ambiance. The bar has an impressive selection. The food speaks for itself (pics don't do it any justice) and the lamb is divine . Ducs' has 40+ years of experience. His food has a strong French cuisine influence and techniques that take it to the next level. Prices are fair, food is superior, service is top notch, and the experience is extraordinary! I almost don't want to review it because the tourists will ruin the experience if they find this hidden gem but it deserves a proper review. Thank me later...

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Duck's Bistro was recommended by a friend & I'm glad he did! This place was amazingly awesome! The food was very tasty and unique. The staff were very friendly and polite. It's a family oriented restaurant which adds a lot unique value which is important.

Chantal C.

Yelp
AMAZING. Overall, food is excellent in terms of quality, taste, and serving size. This restaurant is a gem tucked in a corner of Chinatown. Highly recommend all the plates I've tried - lamb - pork belly - escargot - crab cakes - prawns - saffron rice. All worth it. Dessert does not disappoint either...if you're still hungry by then. cheers (:

Mark C.

Yelp
Terrrific, family-owned French-Vietnamese restaurant. Great decor and ambience, paired with fresh, smartly prepared dishes. And so welcoming, from the moment we were greeted & seated by the founder, Duc, to being served by the son, Ian. A wonderful culinary experience

Teri Y.

Yelp
I am such a lucky girlfriend! @Rani R. selected Duc's Bistro for date night last week, and he hit it out of the park! I had heard from others that Duc's is a great place for Vietnamese/French food but never got there, and boy were they right. First off, while Duc's is located in Chinatown, parking couldn't be any easier. There is a paid lot right across the street from Duc's. As Ian (son of the owners and our excellent waiter) explained, they have a long-standing relationship with the parking company, and they cover your parking when you dine in. All you need to do is give a description of your vehicle and they will handle it. Duc's has been in business for 30 years, and this is just one of the ways their long tenure is a benefit. The best way I can describe going to Duc's is that it is like going to a friend's house for a fancy dinner. From the moment we walked in the door, Ian was friendly and welcoming. Due to social distancing, there were 4 tables in the front room (based on patrons passing through to exit, I assume there's also some seating in the back). Two "larger" parties and one other couple shared the room. We had already previewed the menu and Yelp reviews, so had a general idea of what we wanted to order, but of course, Ian let us know the specials and they also sounded great. The special fresh oysters on the half-shell sounded so good that I had to pass on my planned order of escargot. They were served on a bed of ice with 3 condiments, and short of the oysters I had at an oyster farm in France, they were the best, freshest oysters I've ever had. We also enjoyed the fois gras, which was a new experience for @Rani R. It was served on a buttery slice of toast and accompanied by some slices of papaya. Both were great accompaniments to the rich foie gras. The green papaya salad was our next course, and it was tasty and fresh, of course. I haven't had Vietnamese style green papaya salad before, so my only reference is Thai green papaya salad. Different flavor profiles, but still tasty. Our entree was the New Zealand Lamb Chops. Since I'm allergic, they were very accommodating with putting the red wine demi glaze on the side. The lollipop-style lamb chops were buttery tender and so tasty that they really didn't need any sauce at all. We really enjoyed them with rice--not sure if it was jasmine or saffron. We had a hard time choosing our desserts, as all 3 of the specials sounded so good. We decided we needed to get 2 to share--the tapioca and crème brûlée. Both were delicious and the perfect rounding out of our meal. It isn't often that the food is so good that we discuss what we would order the next time we go back to a restaurant, but that was part of our dinner time conversation. We said that we would make some of same choices (lamb chops for sure!), but also want to try new ones. To me, the ultimate sign of a great dining experience is when you haven't even left, and you want to come back to try more! DO make a reservation for Duc's. During our meal, some would-be diners came to the door and we heard Ian politely turning them away. They were even willing to eat at the bar, but Ian told them they were booked for the night and they were not serving at the bar. I appreciated that they turn folks away, rather than try to to turn over tables as quickly as possible. It made for a nice and relaxing pace for our meal that would have felt rushed if we knew that people were lined up and waiting for our table. As noted by another Yelp reviewer, Duc comes out to welcome patrons, and thank us for coming, and walks around a bit to make sure we are enjoying our meal. Ian also took the time to tell us that his sister-in-law and mother were also serving and that it's a family business. Again, this is why it felt like going to a friend's house for dinner--we knew it was a family affair and who was who. The fact that Duc's has been around for 30 years, and still going strong is proof that they're a great business. Also a great reason to support local and small business. We'll be back!

Yelp
A vendor took me to DB's, so I don't recall everything we ate and the cost points. We ordered family style. I only took two pictures, but I recall we had the Green Papaya Salad $20, Fire Roasted Eggplant $14 and Filet of Basa $24. All were good. Restaurant is located in a seedy part of downtown Honolulu. Metered parking is a across the street.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous from the second you walk into this beautiful restaurant......Exceptionally friendly staff, superb food (everything we ordered), and I highly recommend this for your fine dining pleasure. I might add that this is ideal for a "special occasion" however isn't being alive a special occasion? We started with the best papaya salad I have ever had in my life, spring rolls, and escargot. Our mains were the chicken curry, rack of lamb, and the special fish of the day. Each was perfection! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Just had dinner at Duc's, two of us for the first time, and two veterans. Very nice to be welcomed by the owner, Mr. Duc! Quite liked this place. One thing (the first thing) that stood out to me is that, unlike EVERY restaurant in Honolulu, the canned background music they were playing was at a somewhat less than annoying decibel level. Nice quiet place. Very good food and service. Great lobster bisque. Steak Saigon was very good, but not mind-blowingly so. Pate was good. I tried my friend's escargot, very good. Pork belly was excellent. GF had the fish special. We were there at the very unfashionable time of 5:00 on a Sunday. Would have been nice & quiet and conducive to convivial conversation if not for a very loud table of 6 or 7 sitting next to us celebrating something or other. $400 for four including tax and tip with two bottles of wine. Parking across the street. I'll be back to try a few more menu items.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in Honolulu and quite a hidden gem! We had a wonderful evening here. And if you are lucky enough Duc the owner will sit for a moment with you and help you with menu suggestions. First they have a great cocktail menu and a very reasonable wine list. We started with wonderful baquettes and butter which were as good as Paris. Then we shared a butte lettuce salad with all fresh Island vegetables and ingredients followed by crab cakes which were fresh about the best we have had anywhere. We shared the steak cubed and served Vietnames style and also the Prawns were huge and succulent and juicy. This accompanied with Saffron Rice and that was so good we had a second helping. The ambience is very French retro Asian and so relaxing and enjoyable. And to finish we had the mini creme brulee which are made in house and were perfect. Not too sweet and not to tart. Duc and his family and staff focus on every detail to make you feel at home throughout your meal. We want to go back and try the fish of the day and sample the rest of the menu.

Yelp
We've been going to Duc's since the mid 90's. The food has always been enjoyable and consistent. We really like the Lobster bisque, Duck Breast & steak tartar. Good wine list and $20- corkage. Service is good and they have parking available across the street if you tell them which space you parked in.

Yelp
We went Duc's restaurant last night because it was very highly rated on google, trip advisor and yelp. We were really looking forward to a nice evening out. When we arrived it looked very nice with pictures on the wall of Vietnam and linens on the table. It is a small family-owned restaurant and all the staff is family. Even a small granddaughter was present. We thought we're in for a real treat as the reviews were great. It turned out to not be the case. First of all although the restaurant has a decent ambiance all the staff wore shorts, flip flops and very casual clothing. For the prices charged I was expecting a bit more elegance. The prices were considerably more than what is shown on their website. The website showed that escargot were $18.00. The restaurant menu had a price of $24.00. All the menu prices at the restaurant were considerably higher than the prices shown on their website. I did not look at the prices on the menu when we sat down as I assumed that the prices that I saw on their website earlier in the day were correct. Wine prices were also very inflated. My husband asked for the wine list, and he told me we should just stick to a glass of wine each at $14.00 - $15.00 a glass. The cheapest bottle of wine on the wine list was $58.00. We have gone to a few fine dining restaurants during our time in Honolulu and they have all had wines that are more reasonably priced. They serve the meals family style so rather than us each having an entree the food was served on platters and placed in the middle of the table. We started off with an order of escargot. This came with nice hot dinner rolls. My husband ordered a salad that had lilikoi dressing, red onion, parmesan cheese and tomato. When it came, I could not see any tomato in the salad and I brought that to the attention of our server and he came back with a small dish of finely chopped tomatoes. We ordered duck in Grand Marnier sauce. The small serving of duck was just the breast that had been deboned and had the skin removed. The crispy skin on a duck is to me the best part of a duck. When we commented on this our server said this is the way the chef likes his duck. It also did not have much taste of Grand Marnier to it. I ordered pan fried basa with a ginger sauce. It was good but not outstanding. It was certainly better than my husband's duck breast . My husband was glad that the entrees were served family style as he at least enjoyed my basa. Saffron rice is served with the entrees but if you want any additional vegetables, it is an additional charge. We shared a macadamia nut ice cream for dessert. We definitely would not return. The staff are very friendly but you definitely do not receive value for the money. We have gone to a few really nice fine dining restaurants during our time in Honolulu and received outstanding food, good sized portions and great service for less money.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem. Don't let the exterior fool you, I was quite impressed with our evening here. Being from Houston, Viet food has to be quite good to be memorable, but Duc's Bistro was truly the best meal we've had in a while. For appetizers we ordered the papaya salad, escargot, and crab cakes. Papaya salad was best I've ever had, hands down. The stands of papaya are cut so thinly, it held tons of flavor. Escargot was tasty & unique. Crab cakes were yummy. Would recommend all 3. For entrees we ordered the New Zealand lamb chops, and their daily special of shrimp curry. Shrimp curry was bomb. New Zealand lamb chops weren't really my taste, but the rest of our party enjoyed them. For dessert we ordered the chocolate ganache & banana tapioca pudding. Both were delicious. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the chocolate ganache, the cake itself was dense & not too sweet, and the ice cream accompanying it was refreshing to cleanse the palate. I believe it was the owners who served us. Very personable & professional people. Would recommend again.
