I wanted to write this review mainly because the biggest concern people have is the long wait in very cold weather. I wasn’t sure what to expect either, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to experience this with my kids. I bought our tickets online for Sunday since Friday and Saturday were sold out, but tickets can also be purchased on-site - and in hindsight, that might actually be the better option. Because there is almost no advantage to buy them online, there is no queue jumping and if you are limited with time and cannot wait 2-3 hours, you will lose money (If you fail to resell to someone). On Saturday night after 9 PM, I saw there were very few people, and when I asked if we could use our tickets then, it wasn’t a problem at all. It was feels like -30°C outside, but honestly, it didn’t feel cold once you’re there and excited - especially for such a unique experience. We end up waiting maybe 15 mins. That said, during the day (this was January 3rd, still peak season and a weekend), the line was constantly 60-80+ people. With kids, waiting that long in the cold isn’t ideal unless you’re "prepared" for it. And definitely will ruin your experience. The best time by far is after 9 PM. Night rides are even more magical, and they’re open until 10 PM. Anyone who gets in line before 10 PM is guaranteed to ride. In the last 20 minutes, we were able to go down 3–4 times if we wanted to with almost no waiting. Another great option is to come right at opening (10 AM) - arrive 10–15 minutes early and you’ll be among the first, with no wait. This is exactly what I observed from our hotel window at Fairmont. Overall, it’s absolutely worth trying, especially if you’re visiting from far away like we were from Toronto. It’s a great value for families - up to four people can ride on one sled - and a fun, unforgettable winter experience if you time it right.

Visited the weekend before Christmas. The sliding part, the views, the experience … 10/10. Went on a Saturday and waited around 1h30min. Staff is very friendly and so were the people in the line with us, but to avoid this line, perhaps it’s better to opt for a week day instead of a weekend. It’s definitely an experience and it isn’t pricey either. Tickets are slightly cheaper if bought in advance, but won’t make you skip the line.

To ride: at the base of the slide there are folks with sleds checking for tickets (purchase online). They will hand you a laminated card and a toboggan. Take that up to the top. If there is no one at the base doing this, it likely means they are not yet open! When I went it was closed for the morning and reassessed for the afternoon service. Well organized and line moves surprisingly fast. Folks speak English and French, and online purchase is very easy. $3-4 per person.

This toboggan slide was very cool but not sure I’d stand in those lines again. We waited for almost 2 hours in the FREEZING cold. The line didn’t even seem that long it just moves very slowly. You can purchase tickets online so you don’t have to wait in the ticket line but at least the ticket line is warm! It got dark while we were waiting which made the slide even better but the four of us (two adults and two teens) were so cold! There’s a Starbucks in the hotel and area you can warm up, along with a fire pit, but someone has to wait in the line!! Glad we do it… won’t do it again.

Fantastic experience during winter! A must try if you are visiting Quebec City during the holiday season $4-5 depending on when you are purchasing the tickets (online or in person). We did have to wait 45 minutes though so recommend getting there early!

I loved the toboggan ride! So fun! Best value in Quebec! Waiting can be quite cold but they have hot food, coffee, cocoa for sale. They have a sledding hill next to it. With a fire pit. Also, next to the fabulous Chateau Frontenac! Highlight of our weekend!

Just visited today with my family and we had an absolute blast! Yes, we had to wait about 1.5 hours, but it was totally worth it! The toboggan slide was so much fun – we couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. Everyone from kids to adults had a fantastic time sliding down together. The experience was incredible and brought out the kid in all of us. Such a fun way to spend time as a family! The smiles and laughter were non-stop, and the wait just built up the anticipation. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a thrilling and joyful family activity. Pro tip: come early or be prepared to wait during busy times, but trust me, it’s worth every minute! We’ll definitely be coming back!

So much fun!!!! Me & my husband loved it. They definitely need way more toboggans! We waited for 2 hours. It was brutal, but definitely worth the wait. Dress warm!

Yelp
I did not know it was 140 yrs 140-year-old thing [a full 9 years before the opening of the world-famous Château Frontenac]. During the winter, guests can take an 800-foot toboggan slide from the Citadel down to the terrace. Riding the toboggan slide on Dufferin Terrace beside the Château Frontenac is a favorite local tradition. Built-in 1884, this slide is possibly the oldest attraction in the city--racing down a slope at crazy speeds did not go out of fashion in the 19th century! For over a century, adventure seekers have been getting their adrenaline rush as they fly downhill at speeds of up to 70 km an hour. You can share the thrill as a family with a four-seater, or race against a buddy in the side-by-side runs. If you want a break during your sledding fun, you can have a snack, warm beverage, or bowl of steaming soup at the heated Kiosk next to the Château Frontenac.
